On this inspiring episode of Sustainability In Your Ear, we reconnect with storyteller, systems thinker, and regenerative agriculture pioneer Douglas Gayeton to explore the latest developments in the Ecological Benefits Framework (EBF)—a potentially game-changing tool designed to redefine how we value nature. First introduced during an Earth911 podcast event in 2023, the EBF offers a bold new way to measure what matters most to nature—air, water, soil, biodiversity, carbon, and equity. Unlike traditional carbon accounting, the EBF provides a comprehensive view of how projects can restore and regenerate ecosystems. Douglas calls the EBF a “Rosetta Stone” for ecological impact that offers a shared language for communities, companies, nonprofits, and funders. In our conversation, Douglas takes us inside the making of the EBF—its philosophical roots, its rigorous methodology, and its potential to become a new baseline for evaluating impact in the regenerative economy. He reflects on what we've learned so far and how early adopters are helping shape a framework that's equal parts science, storytelling, and social contract. Now being piloted in 24 projects across the globe and featured in the upcoming BBC series Unearthing The Future, the EBF is quickly becoming a foundational tool in the regenerative movement. In this conversation, Douglas shares how the framework is helping shift investment and storytelling toward the systems that sustain life.

We discuss the coordination failure of climate finance and how Web3 tools can address this, the role of decentralized governance in enabling climate action, the Ecological Benefits Framework as a powerful coordination tool, and much more. This episode is brought to you by KoinlyCheck out Koinly to make your crypto taxes easier: https://koinly.io/?via=EB5412D2&utm_source=affiliatePlease note: we make use of affiliate marketing to provide readers with referrals to high quality and relevant products and services.--Three Key Takeaways--Traditional carbon markets face the trade-off of integrity vs. scalability, as they lacked the technology and tools to accomplish both. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a breakdown in trust as some issuers have focused on scalability at the expense of integrity. Emerging technologies such as blockchain and AI can modernize these antiquated markets and make it much easier to verify the impact of projects at scale.Climate inaction is perhaps the biggest coordination failure of our time. Although everyone benefits from a clean and healthy planet, some have extracted disproportionately more from the environment, and the key power brokers of the world have failed to coordinate meaningful action to combat climate change. Web3 tools can help redistribute the power, ensuring there are greater accountability mechanisms in place, while providing new means to coordinate capital and communities around climate action. The Ecological Benefits Framework (EBF) aims to help stakeholders move past carbon myopia and serve as a common language for the challenges facing humanity and the planet. There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which can be overwhelming and difficult to remember. On the other hand, EBF, simplifies the challenges facing the climate into 6 easy to understand benefits of Air, Water, Soil, Biodiversity, Equity, and Carbon.--Full shownotes with links available at--https://www.cryptoaltruism.org/blog/crypto-altruism-podcast-episode-149-klimadao-addressing-the-climate-coordination-failure-with-blockchain--Support us with a Fiat or Crypto contribution--Learn more at cryptoaltruism.org/supportus--DISCLAIMER --While we may discuss specific web3 projects or cryptocurrencies on this podcast, please do not take any of this as investment advice, and please make sure to do your own research on potential investment opportunities, or any opportunity, before making an investment. The landscape of environmental disclosure is changing fast. Go behind the scenes at Climate Week in New York to hear the introduction of a potentially transformative environmental reporting tool, the Ecological Benefits Framework (EBF). Created by the environmental storytelling studio The Lexicon, led by Douglas Gayeton, the EBF aims to go beyond Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting, extending today's financial risk assessments with a comprehensive quantification of environmental impacts. Earth911's Mitch Ratcliffe also spoke with frequent guest Newday Impact CEO Doug Heske about the firm's commitment to be the first to use EBF information to build investment products. EBF is not just about dollars and cents but about the positive ecological changes organizations and companies can deliver. The information will help investors and governments make environmental investments go further. Beyond the boardroom and investor circles, the implications of EBF resonate deeply. Picture a world where easily decipherable visual icons inform your online shopping or in-store purchase decisions. Icons that communicate a product's ecological benefits or drawbacks can foster decisions that improve environmental and human wellbeing.Model and activist Georgie Badiel also appeared at the event to discuss her foundation's effort to combat water scarcity in Burkina Faso. With the aid of the EBF, she believes the impact of the Georgie Badiel Foundation's women-built and managed community wells initiative will be vividly and transparently communicated to supporters.Whether you're an environmental enthusiast, an investor looking for sustainable opportunities, or someone eager to make informed decisions, this episode of Sustainability In Your Ear introduces an exciting vision for ecological impact transparency. Visit CanYouChangetheFuture.org to sign up for newsletter updates and track where the EBF will change your ability to make informed investing decisions.
