I could not be more excited to continue our big week of programming with the fantastic Molly Fletcher, who is a podcaster, entrepreneur, speaker, and former sports agent, described as “the female Jerry Maguire” by CNN and ESPN. She is also the founder of The Molly Fletcher Company and, when she was working as a sports agent, she represented athletes, coaches, and broadcasters ranging from Tom Izzo to Doc Rivers, Erin Andrews, Billy Donovan, Joe Theismann, and more. She is a former athlete herself, having played varsity tennis at Michigan State. Molly was one of the first female sports agents, and during her almost two-decade career, she negotiated over $500 million in contracts and represented over 300 of sports' biggest names, including the aforementioned. These days, she's one of the most booked female speakers globally, and her TED Talk “Secrets of a Champion Mindset” has more than 1 million views. Her work has been featured everywhere from InStyle to Sports Illustrated, Forbes, Fast Company, CNN, and ESPN, and her latest book, Dynamic Drive, is a No. 1 USA Today national bestseller. Speaking of, today we're chatting with Molly about her book Dynamic Drive: The Purpose-Fueled Formula for Sustainable Success, which came out last September 3; she's also written a number of other books, including 2011's The Business of Being the Best: Inside the World of Go-Getters and Game Changers, 2013's The 5 Best Tools to Find Your Dream Career, 2014's A Winner's Guide to Negotiating: How Conversation Gets Deals Done, 2017's Fearless at Work, and 2020's The Energy Clock: 3 Simple Steps to Create a Life Full of Energy — and Live Your Best Every Day. Molly also hosts one of my favorite podcasts, Game Changers, which I can't get enough of. Dynamic Drive is Molly's latest work, and today on the show we talk about what dynamic drive is and how its heartbeat is purpose; she shares seven keys to unlock our dynamic drive, and she talks to us about how we are in a complacency epidemic and how to step out of our comfort zone and into our stretch zones. We also talk about, as the subtitle alludes to, sustainable success — not a quick fix, momentary, flash in the pan success, but success that lasts and lasts. Success to Molly is about so much more than achieving a goal or checking a box — it's about who we become as people in the process. I enjoyed learning from her so much. "The Energy Clock" isn't about managing our time; it's about managing our energy. We need to think about whether we use our energy for important work and what kinds of work make us feel more energized. We learn how to match our goals and the things we want to achieve with the energy we have. There are many things in the world we can't control, but one thing we can definitely control is our energy. In this book, we learn to split our work into three parts: the part that uses our energy the best (green), the neutral part (yellow), and the part that makes us tired and frustrated (red). We can't do everything, so we need to choose what's most important. The green part should be maximized, the yellow part should be made more efficient, and the red part should be gotten rid of. The book also talks about four sources of energy: our health, our brain, our heart or feelings, and our spirituality. This means taking care of our body, thinking well, feeling good, and finding what really matters to us. In the end, it's all about learning to choose what's important in our lives, so we can use our energy in the best way possible!

Life is a series of negotiations. It is a vital skill that affects not only your business or career but your daily life as well. The “female Jerry Maguire” Molly Fletcher joins us today to talk about the power of negotiation and what it takes to succeed in the male-dominated world of sports. She highlights the importance of mastering your negotiation skills, how this can be practiced in our day-to-day living, what the unspoken rules are, and how to know when it's okay to walk away. Molly Fletcher made a name for herself as one of the first female sports agents. During her almost two-decade career and as President of CSE, she negotiated over $500 million in contracts and represented over 300 of sports' biggest names. As a World's Top 50 Keynote Speaker, she delivers her inspiring message to audiences around the world. She is the author of five books, including The Energy Clock, Fearless at Work, and A Winner's Guide to Negotiating. In this week's episode, we revisit our interview with Molly Fletcher. Molly is a popular speaker, the author of multiple books, and a successful entrepreneur. Formerly, she was a top sports agent hailed as the “female Jerry Maguire” by CNN as she recruited and represented hundreds of sports' biggest names. During this interview Molly shares the practical advice from her new book, The Energy Clock: 3 Simple Steps to Create a Life Full of ENERGY- and Live Your Best Every Day.
Molly Fletcher is a keynote speaker and former top sports agent who has represented over 300 high-performing athletes, coaches, and broadcasters. She's also the author of several best-selling books, including The Energy Clock, The Business of Being the Best, and Fearless at Work. Molly's mission is to lead, inspire, and connect with courage and optimism. She encourages people to find the courage to combat complacency, and through her recently released TED talk, her Game Changers podcast, and her in-person and virtual trainings, she helps others strengthen their resolve, maximize their potential, and develop a winning mindset. In this episode, you'll hear from Molly Fletcher on:(00:03:05) Navigating change. Molly emphasizes the importance of adapting to change and refers to the example of one of her former clients, Major League Baseball Hall of Famer John Smoltz, who successfully transitioned from starting pitcher to closer. She praises his ability to see his new role as an opportunity rather than a challenge and encourages everyone to view change as a chance to get curious, explore new possibilities, and fulfill their true potential. (00:06:53) Creating a Smile File. Molly recalls making a highlights reel for one of her athletes and using it to help him recover his form. She describes how she continues to apply this technique in non-sporting contexts and suggests compiling a ‘Smile File' of appreciative emails, inspirational quotes, and words of wisdom to provide comfort and motivation when things get tough.(00:17:39) Conducting an energy audit. She explains how to live a more energized life by scheduling time on your calendar for the activities that light you up while making a conscious effort to minimize, delegate, or remove the tasks that leave you feeling exhausted and drained. (00:41:50) Molly's morning workout. She talks us through her morning routine, which consists of hot yoga, cardio training, and strength conditioning, and she extols the benefits of walking, eating cleanly, and taking regular cold showers and plunges.(00:43:55) Cultivating a champion mindset. We discuss Molly's recent TED talk, and she reveals how her time as a sports coach taught her that the most successful athletes concentrate on upping their own game rather than focusing on what their competitors are doing. She also recommends chasing constant improvement and fulfillment rather than recognition and achievement.

In this episode of Start With A Win, we hear from Molly Fletcher, a speaker, author, and former top sports agent. In her professional career, she spent two decades as one of the world's only female sports agents and negotiated over 500 million dollars of contracts. Molly shares a bit about her career, including key points she has learned over the years of negotiating contracts and working with people. She notes that negotiation is simply a conversation, and the better the relationship, the better the outcome will be. Understanding where the other person is coming from is vital, as are good preparation and communication. On the other hand, Molly lists two of the top mistakes people make in negotiating: not asking the tough questions early on and not taking the time to pause. To wrap up, we learn about the idea behind Molly's new book, “The Energy Clock” — that the linchpin for performance for athletes, coaches, and business people alike is not time management but energy management. The Energy Clock shows you how to adjust your mindset and accomplish more meaningful work with fewer distractions.
For most of my career, I didn't block out times on my calendar. I thought being the best servant leader I could be meant my time was my team's time. Then a couple of years ago, I went into a meeting as drained as I could be. And it was infectious — I could feel the whole leadership team's energy levels just dissipate. By not managing my energy, all I did was suck all the energy out of the room. At that point, I promised myself I wouldn't show up like that again. Being a leader means managing your energy. And… I get it. Sometimes it's hard to do. Luckily, Molly Fletcher came on the show with some amazing tips on how we can better manage our energy. Molly took lessons learned about energy management throughout her long career as a sports agent and, later, CEO of The Molly Fletcher Company and turned them into the awesome new book The Energy Clock. --------- Join Sangram's "Becoming Intentional" newsletter, read by over 10,000 leaders, for a 1-minute read on how to lead professionally, grow personally, and live fully.
