ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult
Lucifer is one of the most complex and historically misinterpreted figures in Western religious and esoteric traditions. While commonly associated with Satan and the Devil in Christian theology, the name Lucifer, meaning "light-bearer" in Latin, initially referred to the morning star, Venus, in Roman astronomical and literary traditions. This episode examines the historical development of Lucifer, tracing his transformation from a celestial body to a theological symbol of rebellion, pride, and forbidden knowledge. We begin by exploring Lucifer's origins in Greco-Roman thought, where he was poetically invoked as the herald of dawn, with no demonic associations. The shift toward his identification as a fallen angel occurred through the interpretation of Isaiah 14:12 in the Latin Vulgate, where St. Jerome translated helel ben shachar ("shining one, son of the dawn") as Lucifer. Though initially a reference to the Babylonian king's downfall, early Church Fathers reinterpreted this passage in a cosmic framework, eventually merging Lucifer with Satan in medieval theology. This video also examines Lucifer's presence in alternative traditions. In esoteric currents such as Gnosticism, Renaissance Hermeticism, and modern occultism, Lucifer has been reinterpreted as a symbol of enlightenment and spiritual liberation rather than as a fallen adversary of God. The Romantic era further complicated his image, with figures like John Milton and William Blake casting Lucifer as a tragic hero challenging divine authority.Using primary texts and scholarly research, this episode provides an in-depth analysis of how religious doctrine, literary imagination, and cultural shifts shaped the evolving identity of Lucifer. How did an astronomical term become a feared adversary of divine order? And what does Lucifer's ongoing reinterpretation reveal about the tension between orthodoxy and esoteric knowledge?CONNECT & SUPPORT
After Hoover Institute fellow Niall Ferguson criticized the Trump administration's tactics in negotiating a peace agreement for the war in Ukraine, Vice President JD Vance called Ferguson's critique moralistic garbage and accused Mr. Ferguson of being a globalist, apparently the lowest of the low in the MAGA world. In this commentary we try to understand the real reason for Mr. Vance's heated response.

Conspiracy Theories - Or an epithet to hide used to hide inconvenient truths? (Part 2) Black Spy Podcast Season 15, Episode 0007 This week's Black Spy Podcast continues looking into the phenomenon of conspiracy theories and asks the question, are the powers that be attempting to fool us by labelling issues of covert manipulation or control, as theories of conspiracy. Indeed, Carlton and his regular panel, the throuple, ask the question, what makes something a conspiracy theory rather than a reportage of fact. In this vein Carlton cites some of the issues he's dealt with in the secret world that the ‘ruling system' would like the general populace to believe are conspiracy theories devoid of reality. So, once again this week's Black Spy Podcast needs no long write up, as part two of this discussion, like part one, let's the discussion amongst the throuple fully air this issue. Hence, if you've ever had an interest in the world of secret intelligence, national security, espionage, geo-politics and governmental close protection operations then Carlton's recollections and points in this week's episode follows on from last week's discussions. And, if you've wondered why the mainstream mass media cover ‘story' ‘A' and not story ‘B'. Or you've asked yourself how does the mainstream mass media function and what are the pressures on it to run various ‘stories' and not others; then long term mainstream mass media Journalist, Firgas Esack, informs you about this. Finally, if you've wanted to know how the human brain plays into theories of conspiracy, the Dr Rachel Taylor, explains the neuro biology of this process. Consequently this is truly, once again, a must listen episode of the Black Spy podcast. The Chicago Bears lose their season finale to the Green Bay packers, a situation known all to well by Bears fans. While Justin Fields was not the reason the team lost the game, his inability to produce efficient drives down the field contributed strongly to the loss. The passive leadership of Luke Getsy and Matt Eberflus put both the defense and the offense in adverse positions throughout the whole game; ultimately, ending the season on the same note it was started on.

In conversation with Ernest Owens A consultant and writer in the fields of civic activism and government reform, Brett H. Told through the story of the corruption case of John Dougherty and the machine politics that foster corruption, his new book illustrates the ways our inattention gives way to corrosive politicians and policies, the effects this blight has on the soul of Philadelphia, and how collective action can lead to a better city for all. Ernest Owens is editor-at-large for Philadelphia Magazine, host of the podcast Ernestly Speaking!, and president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for May 16, 2022 is: epithet EP-uh-thet noun An epithet is "a characterizing word or phrase that accompanies, or occurs in place of, the name of a person or thing" or "a disparaging or abusive word or phrase." // Richard the First is frequently referred to by the epithet "Lionheart." // The school's policy makes it clear that derogatory epithets will not be tolerated. See the entry > Examples: "Seeing the [Combat Veterans motorcycle club] holding American Flags … brings back a lot of patriotic emotions. WWII vets are part of what has been referred to as 'The Greatest Generation.' I wonder what the epithet will be for our current generation." — Stephen Rowland, The Daily Herald (Columbia, Tennessee), 23 Mar. 2022 Did you know? Nowadays, epithet is usually used negatively, with the meaning "a disparaging word or phrase," but it wasn't always that way. Epithet comes from Greek epitithenai, meaning "to put on" or "to add." In its oldest sense, epithet is simply a descriptive word or phrase, especially one joined by fixed association to the name of someone or something, as in "Ivan the Great" or the Homeric phrase "wine-dark sea."
9LARRY'S MOTHER was entirely occupied with domestic affairs, although she didn't actually do much work. Marie did most of the cooking, though Mrs. Peters had several dishes for which she was famous: her chow-chow relish, piccalilli, one-eyed Egyptians, hoppin' John, and pigs-in-blankets were family favorites. Marie made the beds, did the laundry, ordered supplies for delivery from Murky Bay, and generally bustled around, wisecracking, pushing dust around, and offering down-to-earth advice. Employees of the knickknack works did the heavier maintenance chores. Mrs. Peters was the domestic manager. She organized everything. It was clear to me from the start that although there was a surface dottiness to her character, she made everything in the Peters ménage work. None of the Peterses could be described as level-headed, but Antonia Peters possessed the levelest of the Peters heads. She was the only member of the Peters family who could be counted on, when six or seven things were happening at once, to pick out the one thing that most needed immediate attention. Consider the situation in The Camel's Back. One morning, after Lucinda has brought the workers from shore to the island on the Peters barge, a resounding crash, coming from who-knows-where on the island, rattles the windows in the big old Peters house. At that moment, the family is gathered in the dining room, eating breakfast. “My goodness!” cried Mrs. Peters. “What was that?” “It was a crash of some kind,” said Larry. “Would you pass me the sausages, Dad?” “Do you think it might have been serious?” asked Mrs. Peters. “Oh, I doubt it, dear,” said Edgar Peters. He put his fork down and reached for a platter of link sausages. He stopped before actually raising the platter, however. “Did you want the link sausages, Larry, or the sausage patties?” he asked. “Gee, I'm not sure,” said Larry. “What kind are you having, Sexpot?” he asked Lucinda in the wisecracking tone that brother and sister used with each other. “I'm going to have one of those cute little links,” she replied saucily. “They're just about the size of your—” “I think we should investigate,” said Mrs. Peters. Her brow was furrowed with concern. “I haven't had any complaints yet, Green Eyes,” Larry asserted cockily, passing the platter of link sausages to his sister. “Stop teasing, you two,” said Edgar Peters in the kindly tone he always used with his son and daughter. “Antonia,” he said to his wife, in the reassuring tone he often employed when speaking with her, “I'm sure that if anything serious has occurred, my brother Hector will be here shortly to tell us all about it.” “The only reason Larry hasn't had any complaints,” said a tall, handsome young man who suddenly stepped through the doorway to the dining room, “is that he hasn't had any customers.” “Rocky!” squealed Lucinda. She leaped from her chair, upsetting her glass of prune juice, and ran to Rocky. She threw herself at the smiling young man, winding her arms around his neck and her long, honey-colored legs around his waist. She began covering his face with kisses. “Hey, take it easy, Hot Stuff,” said Rocky, cupping her tight pubescent buttocks in his large and muscular hands. “I've had a long, hard night.” “Did you learn anything about that swarthy stranger, Rocky?” asked Edgar Peters, in the sober tone he employed when there was a problem to be solved. “Dear,” said Antonia Peters, “I really think that before we do anything else we ought to investigate that crash.” There was a petulant tone in her voice, which Edgar Peters interpreted as meaning that she felt she was being ignored. “Now, dear—” he began, thinking that it might be best to humor her and investigate the crash, so that they could get on to more important things. “Hey, I heard that too,” said Rocky. With Lucinda still wrapped around him, he made his way to the sideboard, where he took a piece of raisin-bread toast from a silver toast caddy. “There was a lot of dust and debris falling out of the air in the vicinity of the design building.” He winked at Larry and said, “I figured it was one of your projects, Larry.” “I really think that we—” began Antonia Peters, but just then Hector Peters, Edgar Peters's brother, burst into the dining room, dragging behind him, covered with dust from head to toe, Ignatz Steinmetz, the brilliant European gewgaw designer who had become, in two short years, one of the most valuable members of the Peters team. “Edgar!” cried Hector. “We're ruined!” “There you are, Antonia,” said Edgar Peters, reaching out to pat his wife's hand in a reassuring manner. “I told you that if the crash was serious Hector would soon be here to tell us about it.” He turned to his brother, his eyebrows drawn together in a look of grave concern. “It's serious then, Hector?” he asked. “Steinmetz,” said Hector Peters, “tell him what you told me.” “Ruins!” cried the world-renowned designer. “Everything is in ruins!” When he gesticulated, and he gesticulated extravagantly, dust flew from his laboratory coat. His left cheek was badly scraped, and his hands were trembling. “We were working on the new models, and Entwhistle said, ‘How about a cup of coffee, Iggie?' and I said, ‘Sure, why not?' and then—kerwhammy! The roof falls in and the whole place is a shambles!”In Topical Guide 194, Mark Dorset considers Name: What's in a and Name: Nickname; Moniker; Sobriquet; Epithet; Hypocorism; Cognomen from this episode.Have you missed an episode or two or several? You can begin reading at the beginning or you can catch up by visiting the archive or consulting the index to the Topical Guide. You can listen to the episodes on the Personal History podcast. A study in Amos 1:1-2 with Dr. Allan Moseley
Olivia Olson speaks with Professor Jody Armour about the power of "word work to really make the frozen circumstances that somebody is stuck in dance, by playing them to their own melody." In Prof Armour's latest book N*gga Theory, he focuses on the n-word to delve deeply into the social meaning behind the use of words. How can language challenge cultural boundaries? How can one word carry so much power? Certain language is a form of mutual aid. This is a powerful conversation on community. When the power of the state used language to sow inequality, how must we unlearn the language, how do we redefine the words we use to re-root community, to reclaim morality, to grow justice? Prefixes are key morphemes in English vocabulary that begin words. The English prefix epi-, which means “over” or “upon,” appears in a good number of English vocabulary words, such as epidermis and epitaph. You can remember that the prefix epi- means “upon” from the noun epidemic, which is a widespread disease that comes “upon” people; you can also recall that epi- means “over” via the word epidermis, which is the outer skin that lies “over” lower layers of skin.Like this? Well, here we are once again... Faced with yet another passage (if you can believe it) too often ripped out of its context, twisted into a pretzel, and made to say something other than what Jesus intended it to say. There is an issue addressed in this passage, and in this PODCAST -- a monumentally important issue -- so important that we must understand what this passage means. The fact of the matter is that this issue -- what this passage DOES actually mean -- is so absolutely important that Jesus said something in this passage that He never said anywhere else. Jesus actually said that we must even stop worshipping God and first fix this issue -- whatever this issue is (I’ll tell you in a moment) -- before we can resume our worship. So the issue, addressed in this passage, must indeed be a vitally important issue, yes? Yes! The trend of net unit buyers continues into today. Volatility Viewpoint: This segment was kicked off by an article in Futures Magazine, "Stock Market Trends and the Volatility Premium by Marco Erling. I'd like to know where the Euro VolContracts currently fall on the vol cones spectrum. It sounds like they would be a screaming sell at these levels. Am I correct, and do the hosts agree? Until the VIX proves it can hold 30 and lower, it may be a good time to hold premium – good for gamma scalping.
