Ready or Not (2019) is one of our favorite Feel-Good Horror Movies Consider Feel Good Horror as a palate cleanser for those of you looking for a bit of optimism and good vibes in your horror movies. For those of you who may have followed up on our recommendations from Episode 205: Mean Horror, we’re making it up to you now. Triumph over evil! Protagonists for the win! Fist pumps all around. It’s time for some emotional healing through horror with Episode 206: Feel Good Horror. Just because the primary motivation of a horror film is often to scare you, that doesn’t mean you can’t be smiling the entire time. Horror films elevate your emotions, and often that means your happiness as well as your fear. Those movies that do both are usually big winners. When we consider feel-good horror, we ask ourselves the following questions: Is there a happy ending? Do you have a real rooting interest in the protagonists? Are there good nostalgia vibes? Was evil vanquished satisfyingly? Is there a fist-pumping “OH YEAH!” moment? Is the movie fun? Are we laughing throughout? Do the antagonists/monsters get what they deserve? Does the movie make you laugh (for the right reasons)? Did I immediately want more of the movie? Is this a movie that I would go back to as “comfort food” Final girls fit this model. Horror comedies often fit this category. Horror romances are often feel-good films. But, as always, the emotional takeaways from a movie are specifically subjective. Heather has different kinds of horror: films that are comforting and familiar, and films that are light, colorful, and breezy. These are the horror movies that put you into a happy place, however you get there. Podcast Episode 206: Feel-Good Horror You can listen to us discuss our selections using the link below.
Beef prices are up nearly 15% year-over-year as the U.S. cattle population falls to its lowest level since 1973. Stephen Boyer, owner of The Country Butcher in Connecticut for nearly 40 years, shares his concerns about the rising costs. TikTok has signed a deal to sell its U.S. operations to a group of investors in America, a source familiar with the deal tells CBS News. CBS News' Jo Ling Kent has more. Baltimore's Marching Ravens is one of two official bands remaining in the NFL. John Ziemann, who has been leading the band for decades, tells "CBS Mornings" how "everybody banded together to bring football back to Baltimore." Kristin Cabot, the tech executive caught on a "kiss cam" embracing her company's CEO, is speaking out for the first time since the incident went viral. CBS News' Adriana Diaz has more. Michael Crawford reacts to the "mind-blowing" moment of being named a 2025 Kennedy Center Honoree and reflects on his iconic performance as the original "Phantom of the Opera." He tells Anthony Mason why he has always felt most at home on stage. Singer-songwriter and actress Teyana Taylor joins "CBS Mornings" to give an update on her whirlwind year, celebrating her first-ever Golden Globe nomination for her role in "One Battle After Another" and her return to music with fourth studio album "Escape Room," which earned her a Grammy nod for Best R&B Album. Also familienfreundlich.

In Aftertaste (Simon & Schuster, 2025) Konstantin Duhovny's father died when he was young, and his mother is too anguished to raise him, so he raises himself, but not very well. After a sad breakup, he advertises for a roommate and finds a chef who becomes his best friend. Kostya starts to realize that although he doesn't see ghosts, he can taste the food they once loved. He figures out how to prepare special dishes that unite people with their dead loved ones, and in hopes of helping people, decides to really learn how to cook. But he falls in love with someone who has an inkling about the afterlife and she wants to stop him from feeding ghosts. This is a beautiful but crazy novel about New York's food scene, the most esoteric and expensive foods, ghosts, finding a soulmate, and losing one's soul. Daria Lavelle is a speculative fiction writer. Her short stories have appeared in The Deadlands, Dread Machine, Dark Matters, and elsewhere, and her debut novel, Aftertaste, was published by Simon & Schuster (US) and Bloomsbury (UK) in 2025, and is currently being translated into thirteen languages. Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and raised in the New York metro area, she holds degrees in writing from Princeton University and Sarah Lawrence College. She lives in New Jersey with her family, and can often be found in a coffee shop, inventing new worlds or distorting this one. Escape Room Style Mobbing is a real collaboration pattern many teams run into, even if they do not have a name for it yet. In this episode of the Mob Mentality Show, we break down the spectrum between two very different mobbing modes: fast, noisy, interruption-heavy “escape room” mobbing and the quieter, deliberate, research-first approach some teams rely on instead. Across the conversation, they share concrete examples from dozens of mobs they have been part of over the years. You will hear what actually happens in high-energy mobs that optimize for speed, flow, and rapid experiments. You will also hear what shifts when a team leans into slow, deep thinking, deep learning, cautious change, and single-threaded communication. The episode digs into the real tradeoffs: - When interruptions accelerate discovery and when they create friction or waste - Why some teams thrive in a “pull everyone in now” environment while others feel overwhelmed or blocked by the noise - Why the same people might switch styles depending on context, psychological safety, or the kind of problem they are solving You will also hear how teams manage learning in each mode, how business expectations can map with the mob's behavior, how different personalities respond to high-octane collaboration, and why both styles can be healthy when used intentionally in the right context rather than by accident. If you work on Agile teams, practice Mob Programming, care about delivery flow, or you simply want to understand why your team's collaboration energy swings from chaotic to quiet, this episode gives you language and mental models you can use right away. Everyone who listens to this podcast no doubt has some degree of love and respect for the art of magic. Starting from that common point, we all go off in our divergent ways and follow the paths that give us joy and often success along the way. This week we chat with three disparate magicians who share that passion for magic but have, indeed, found totally different ways of getting to their “end game.”Bizzaro is a creative magician who performs mostly in Las Vegas but also builds unusual props for other magicians and consults on Escape Rooms across the country. Cody Fisher is a corporate magician who performs as an after dinner speaker and does strolling magic as well as his share of trade shows and he even gets out on cruise ships to perform. And Joan DuKore is getting started with her career performing for corporate banquets and aboard cruise ships, too. View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize View fullsize While attending this year's Magic at the Beach convention, my intent was to have three separate episodes, each featuring one of these dynamic performers because of their differences from one another. But as it happened and came together, their time and mine grew “tight” and they preferred to be in the room together to record this episode. That is, except for Joan DuKore. I intended to get her aside later in the convention to record a separate podcast, but as the three of the rest of us were recording, she passed by the room where we were sitting and came in to join us. It was quite fortuitous and serendipitous that made for a delightful, fun and funny conversation, each talking about their unique areas of expertise in magic. In this historic interview, Bashar (channeled by Darryl Anka) delivers a direct confirmation that humanity has entered the three-year global breakdown phase leading to Open Contact by 2027. In this new transmission, Darryl explains how current world events, collapsing systems, and rapid technological acceleration are part of a greater timeline convergence—a domino effect that's preparing Earth for first official contact with extraterrestrial civilizations. He reveals why 2025–2027 marks the most critical window in human evolution, how “breakdown” is the necessary precursor to “breakthrough,” and what each of us can do to stay aligned with the new frequency of transformation.✦ Learn more about The Deep Dive Membership | https://iamemilioortiz.com/the-deep-d...In this conversation with Emilio Ortiz, we explore Bashar's 2027 predictions, the hybrid-human connection, the mechanics of parallel realities, and the physics of consciousness that underlie the coming shift. Whether you've followed Bashar for years or are encountering this message for the first time, this episode delivers profound clarity about the next stage of the human experiment—and the practical steps to thrive through the transition. " We're evolving the [escape room] experience towards something that's more theatrical, with puzzling, gaming, and immersive art all together." Magnifico is currently (as of November 2025) the top escape room in the world, as voted on by experienced escape room enthusiasts. For 2.5 hours, we were transported to another world where magic is real and anything is possible. This game was a culmination of Escaparium's signature style: epically sized and meticulously built sets with large-scale puzzles that involve the whole team, and meaningful stories told through both gameplay and theatrical moments featuring live actors. Jonathan Driscoll and Sacha St. Denis are the owners and driving force behind Escaparium, in Laval, Canada (just outside of Montreal). Since their previous appearance on REPOD, they've cemented their spot as one of the top companies in world. Last year, in 2024, they captured the #1 and #3 spots on the TERPECA rankings, with their games Magnifico and Forgotten Cathedral, respectively. Wardrobe for Sale ranked at #14, and Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen ranked at #37 in the world. It's clearly not a fluke. Escaparium is consistently creating world-class games, year after year, and when they're not busy opening new games, they're renovating and remodeling old experiences. Rain Corp. has been given a make-over into Ctrl Alt Reboot. They are also overhauling their lobby once again, creating an immersive bar experience featuring a crashed space ship. Jonathan and Sacha joined us to talk about their new games, what's driving them, and where they're getting inspiration. My biggest takeaway from this conversation was that they are very involved in the escape room community and industry. They are constantly traveling and playing games. They attend every convention. For them, it's always about the details. If even one small detail inspires their next idea, Jonathan says it's gold. That's the mindset they instill in their whole team as well. Welcome back to another episode of School Counseling Simplified! Today we are going behind the scenes to talk about how to create engaging class lessons that keep students interested and make your counseling program run smoothly all year long. 1. How to Map Out Lessons for the Year Start by looking at your school calendar and noting upcoming dates, themes, and holidays. For example, October is Bullying Prevention Month, which is a great time to plan related lessons. Review your referral data and needs assessment responses to identify key areas of focus. Check what curriculum your school already uses, such as Second Step, and build from there. You can also base lessons around books to make topics more engaging. Planning tip: Repurpose content across multiple grade levels to save time and stay consistent. 2. How to Create Lessons Using a Simple Framework Use this five-step framework for 20–30 minute lessons: Icebreaker (5 minutes): Start with a fun, short activity to grab attention. Lesson (10 minutes): Teach the main concept or skill. Discussion (5 minutes): Have students talk in pairs, groups, or as a class. Reflect/Review: Leave time for students to write, draw, or journal about what they learned. Data Collection: Use quick self-assessments to measure understanding. Planning tip: Repurpose small group or individual activities by slightly modifying them for classroom use. 3. How to Get Creative Make lessons interactive by incorporating elements such as Scoot Games, Escape Rooms, Digital Game Shows, Breakout Groups, or PowerPoint and Google Slides presentations. These activities help reinforce learning and keep students engaged. 4. How to Engage Students with Movement Movement keeps students focused and helps with participation. Add movement to your icebreakers, activities, and discussions with ideas like: Sides of the room Simon Says Stand up and sit down Role play Charades Beach ball toss or jumbo discussion die By intentionally planning, getting creative, and incorporating movement, you can design classroom lessons that are fun, effective, and memorable. Tune in to this episode to hear how I use these strategies step-by-step to make classroom lessons engaging and stress-free! The Witching Hour is upon us in this Halloween special, it's time to pull up a rickety, mouldy stool at the near-empty pub, the Brush, Nose and Bone. In this episode, we're joined by a master of horror, Keith Dozois of USB Escape to discuss all things horror in escape rooms. How does horror affect puzzles? What are our best (and worst) experiences with horror? And how do you make horror good in an escape room? As always, here are your recommendations for this month. Jamie - Ice Nine Kills (band), a metalcore whose recent output has been centred around iconic horror films, and was a big inspiration for Jamie's episode this arc. Mairi - Strange Jigsaws (game by fleb), a short digital puzzle game about solving 50 or so rather strange jigsaws. The prequel (20 Small Mazes) is free, if you want to see what sort of thing you're getting yourself into. Jon - Never Let Me Go (novel by Kazuo Ishiguro), a slow gentle book about a trio of young folks in the British countryside but they attend a very unusual school and are on an unusual life trajectory. Keith - Scarlet Envelope for their fantastic puzzle games (yay), and Curios' Albrecht Manor Letters, an epistolary horror experience through writing letters. Two fantastic Canada-based game creators. Hosts: Mairi Nolan, Jon Saunders, Jamie Gibbs Special Guest: Keith Dozois Editor: Jamie Gibbs All links to our social media profiles and our Patreon programme over at https://linktr.ee/theinfiniteescaperoom TLDR: The final episode in the VHS Nightmare arc has the four hosts chatting about all things horror game, and puzzle game design at a spooky pub. The Infinite Escape Room is a comedy escape room podcast where a group of friends make and solve audio escape rooms for one another. It's one part tabletop RPG, one part escape room with a bit of Monkey Island humour sprinkled over the top.
