Even adult children need their parents. But when things get rocky, how can you improve relationships with adult children? In the evolving world of parenthood, maintaining a strong bond with adult children presents unique challenges. As children transition into adulthood, the dynamics shift, often leading to confusion for parents. However, with understanding and a strategic approach, it's possible to improve relationships with adult children and cultivate a healthy, fulfilling family connection. Understanding the Shift in Dynamics Once children turn 18, they are legally considered adults. This milestone often surprises parents who feel uncertain about their new role. As children grow into their independence, they become increasingly determined to make their own choices, sometimes clashing with their parents' ideals. This can lead to emotional chaos and strained relationships. However, understanding these dynamics is the first step to improving relationships with adult children. The Importance of Self-Connection For mothers, connecting with themselves is paramount. As the cornerstone of the family, maintaining inner peace is essential. By prioritizing self-awareness, moms can better navigate the emotional upheavals that come with parenting adult children. Self-care and inner reflection act as the glue that binds the family, providing stability during times of change. Listening and Validating Emotions Open communication is essential for improving relationships with adult children. It is necessary to engage in active listening, validate the emotions of your children, and initiate a dialogue about their feelings and experiences. By acknowledging their perspectives, parents can build a stronger, more respectful relationship. The Role of Faith-Based Strategies For those who treasure faith, integrating it into your parenting approach can help mend and strengthen familial ties. By relying on spiritual guidance, parents can find peace in surrendering their worries and trusting a higher power with their children's paths. This can lead to healing and transformation within the family unit. Read the full show notes and access all links. Today relationship expert Dr. Carol Stoney returns to Never Perfect to deliver more phenomenal nuggets on how to improve relationships and communication. She focuses on the importance of developing agreements on the front end rather than expecting your loved ones to read your mind or do guess work (Dr. Stan Tatkins developed this concept of agreements). Carol brings up a powerful exercise from Dr. John Gottman called “dreams within conflict” in which couples discuss core issues and longings that underlie conflicts. She also distinguishes between “actual crimes” a relationship from less serious issues (using the work of Dr. Brent Atkinson.) These crimes include lying/deception, sexual unfaithfulness, breaking clear agreements, bad, mouthing your partner, violating privacy/personal space, making big decisions without consulting your partner, etc.) To register for Dr. Stoney‘s webinars visit HERE. Have you ever thought about using the Enneagram in relationships? If you don't know what the Enneagram is or haven't used it much in your relationships, you are in for a real treat! It is an incredible tool for improving relationships, and I am so thrilled to share it with you today! Now, a little backstory: For as long as I can remember, I've been a sucker for personality quizzes and profiling systems - anything that helps me understand myself and others more deeply. I think this probably started with taking quizzes in teen magazines with my friends while growing up in the 1990s.
In today's evolving cultural landscape, simply being a "tough guy" who doesn't show weakness isn't enough. Both men and women are seeking partners who can lead powerfully while staying grounded in their humanity. But how do we get there? How do we balance masculine and feminine within, while bringing our best selves to our relationships? And how do we release what's holding us back on a physical and emotional level? In this episode of the True Love Knots Podcast, Maria is joined by men's coach Jason Lang. They will be talking about Jason's personal journey to intimacy and emotional connection, and his work helping men cultivate presence, polarity, shadow integration for healthy relationships, and much more! Standout Quotes: “Many of us men don't know how to do that because, historically, men have been rewarded for being disembodied.” “As a man, I have feminine energy, and as a woman, women have masculine energy. Part of what's been shifting in our culture is the great rebalancing of these energies.” “What's important is for there to be "juice" in a relationship. You have to play with those energies. It doesn't always have to be the same, but you can experiment and find the balance that works for both partners.” Key Takeaways: Evaluate your level of presence and embodiment. How "in your head" are you, and how can you better connect to your physical body and emotions? Consider where you may be disconnecting from your feminine side or energy. How can you better integrate both masculine and feminine? Ask yourself what unresolved emotions you may be holding in your physical body. Make a effort to prioritize self-care, relationships and emotional intimacy beyond just work and tasks. As Clint Pardoe was about to graduate from college, he didn't know what he wanted to do with his degree in Business. This, combined with the ending of a romantic relationship, led him to experiencing overt anxiety, which led to depression, which led to some deep soul-searching. He spent the next year waiting tables & obsessively reading books about personal growth and spirituality. Inspired by a former Professor, Clint went to graduate school to teach public speaking and interpersonal communication classes at the college level and, after a few years of doing so, did post-graduate work in Business/Life Coaching. This led to him writing The 4 Secrets to College Life Success and speaking & coaching in both the college and real estate markets. A decade later, two decades after this journey started, Clint felt called to refocus his energy on speaking at colleges and now offers two programs, Awaken Your Potential & Wake Up Call. He also hosts a weekly podcast-like meditation and conversation where, in community, college students can awaken to and live more of their full potential. In episode 431 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out what made Clint want to become an Adjunct Professor, what is Youth Speaker University and what Clint does for them, what is emotional balance, what are some communication tools that students can use in order to improve relationships with family, friends, teachers, and significant others, what are tips to improve time management skills, why support from others helpful for students to transform areas of their own lives, why service is so important for college students, and what his TEDx talk is about versus his presentations on college campuses. Enjoy!

Welcome to today's ICYMI, where we kick off the week with a quick game-changing tip from one of our guests that you might have missed. Gather 'round, besties... ahead of Galentines Day, we're talking friendships. If everyone in your bestie group chat is so busy you're planning a month out for your next hang, this one's for you. Our 20s and 30s can feel lonely and isolating AF as all our friends enter different life stages, get hella busy, and move around the world. So if you're feeling some kind of way about the state of your friendships right now, you're not alone. We actually replace half of our friend group every seven years, so it turns out this is a right of passage. But making friends (and keeping the good ones) is wildly important for our happiness and our health, so we're kicking it back to one of our favourite conversations with psychologist and friendship expert, Dr. Miriam Kirmayer, who reveals why we need to prioritize our friendships, how much time it takes to form friendships, and the commonalities we should look for. Having spent over a decade researching the science of friendship and helping people live more connected lives, Dr. Miriam is a clinical psychologist, writer, speaker, and leading expert on friendship and social connection. She's appeared on some of our favourite media outlets, from Call Her Daddy to Vogue and The New York Times. She sits on the Mental Health Advisory Committee for Wondermind, a media company co-founded by Selena Gomez, and is a member of The GenWell Project, a human connection movement. She also has a private practice and is one of the first and only licensed clinical psychologists to specialize in friendship therapy!Listen to our full episode with Dr. Miriam here.Tune in every Monday for an expert dose of life advice in under 10 minutes.Follow Dr. Miriam:miriamkirmayer.com@miriamkirmayerThis show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler , Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network.
