On July 6, 1944, an estimated 7,000 people, mostly women and children, gathered at the Barbour Street fairgrounds in Hartford, Connecticut to see the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Baily Circus. Inside the big top tent, the lion show had just ended, and the Flying Wallendas were getting ready to begin their performance when the tent caught fire, sending the large audience into a panic as the spectators and performers rushed to get to safety. The tent, which had been coated in paraffin wax, was quickly engulfed in flames and by the time the fire was put out, 139 people were dead and hundreds were badly injured. In the weeks that followed, another twenty-eight would die from their injuries. At the time, the Hartford circus fire was one of the worst fires in American history, and it remains one of the biggest tragedies in the state's history. The future Fr. Michael was having a difficult time praying to the heavenly Father. Where was the response? As a seminarian, he just wasn't hearing anything from above. Then, one day, he took the advice of Jesus. The Son of God has told us in Scripture that the way to the Father is through the Son. So, Michael, who was behind the wheel of his old pickup truck took his prayers to Jesus. 'Show me the Father,' said young Michael. He glanced to the right passenger seat and found a smiling Jesus looking back at him. That was the beginning. You are a beloved adopted son or daughter of the Father. Back in the early days of the church, it was Roman law that if you found your newborn child to be defective, you could throw the child away. Just leave it on the side of the road. However, if you adopted a child, you were not allowed to disown the child. You were bound together forever! We need to remember that as we walk through life's journey. We are forever His adopted children. He is always there and loving us as no one else can. Unfortunately, because we all have defective fathers, and perhaps a defective way of looking at the 'Old Testament God,' we may be approaching Him in a defective way. Fr. Michael Denk relives his supernatural experience with Jesus in the cab of his truck, as well as the best way to approach Him in prayer. And then there is Trapper and his dad's interesting way of welcoming newborns into the world. The Flying Wallendas would've loved it! On July 6, 1944, in Hartford, Connecticut, thousands of patrons were excited to escape the heat and attend the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus performance. While the Flying Wallendas began their performance inside the tent, chaos ensued shortly after. The fire that began as a small flame about 20 feet from the main exit spread rapidly when it came in contact with the tent canvas. Panicked patrons ran for the exits as the flames grew to 100 feet high, only for many to be blocked by animal cages and bottlenecks. In today's episode, we explore one of the worst fire disasters in United States history that injured more than 700 people and killed nearly 170. In the latest episode of the Empowerography Podcast, my guest is Sariya Saabye. Dr. Sariya Saabye wasn't supposed to be an ultramarathoner.  As a 4'9” retired world team power tumbler, she certainly didn't have the build to be an endurance runner.  She was expectedly terrible at it and chronically injured for 5 years despite doing everything she knew to do as a licensed physical therapist, until she shifted her mindset and decision-making. She not only quickly became a healthy barefoot ultramarathoner, but was recruited by Harvard University to start a national running center and teach others to do the same.  Dr. Saabye's mission is to help others avoid the struggles with overwhelm that nearly ended her life.   Today she uses her expertise in eliminating overwhelm and distraction to help Flying Wallendas do handstands on the high wire, acrobats achieve careers with Cirque du Soleil and the WWE, and entrepreneurs decrease work hours while increasing their bottom line.  These principles even allowed her to complete the world's longest non-stop boat race with only 4 hours of kayak experience.  Her message is clear: with strategic elimination and the power of less, anything is possible. In this episode we discuss minimalism, burning it all down to the ground, mindset, mental health struggles, the written vision and the burning question, will this help me beat the reaper.   Email - booking@sariyasaabye.com LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-sariya-saabye-0557718a/   In this episode you will learn: 1. When it comes to you and your business with regards to growth, there seems to be two equal but wildly different camps that folks will settle into - like "A Tale of Two Cities" or the twins from "The Parent Trap" movies (Hayley Mills or Lindsay Lohan, take your pick). Either you get way too excited (think that episode of Saved By the Bell with Jessie Spano and the caffeine pills) and you buy up equipment or hire personnel you think you need without the revenue backing and true growth to support it ... or you're the micromanaging money miser (think Ebeneezer Scrooge pre ghostly visits) that has the money and the numbers to back up growth, but you're reluctant to pull the trigger and you stunt your growth due to lack of support. It seems like a no-win scenario no matter what, like you're a Starfleet captain facing the Kobayashi Maru training exercise. And, not unlike a young Captain James Tiberius Kirk, our boys Sid and Keith here at The Overlap Podcast are going to hack the scenario and find a way for you and your company to win. It's a fine balance to figure out strategic growth, but our boys will make like the Flying Wallendas and have you right in that sweet spot of appreciating opportunities while maintaining strategic, sustainable growth. The Flying Wallendas earned fame and a reputation as circus daredevils for performing stupendous acts of balance on a high-wire. Yet, even the uncanny skill with which they performed their incredible seven-person chair pyramid stunt pales in comparison to the balance required by parents of children who learn differently when it comes to walking the tightrope of when to push your child and pushing too hard. Good parents want the best for their kids. And sometimes, children need a nudge. But what is pushing too hard? In this episode, we'll learn how a collective of Florida exceptional student education charter schools serving students with learning and learning-related disabilities negotiates that fine line. Next, we'll drill down on the topic and suggest some strategies for parents in our “Ask the Experts” segment. And, we'll close out the program with this month's “Difference Maker,” British micro-artist Willard Wigan, the brilliant creative who found that big things come in the smallest of packages. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/a-world-of-difference/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/a-world-of-difference/support

Nik Wallenda is the face of the Flying Wallendas, the famous circus family known for performing crazy feats without safety nets. Nik is also known for his daring televised tightrope walks, including over Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, and, in 2020, he will walk over an active volcano.   Nik is a seventh-generation member of the Flying Wallendas and has been walking the wire since he took his first steps, but he had never experienced fear until a tragic accident in 2017. The eight-person pyramid he and several members of his family were practicing collapsed, and five of its members fell thirty feet to the ground. Miraculously, they all survived, but the accident changed Nik's life forever. For the first time, he felt fear, and he had to learn to get past it to get back out on the wire.   Most of us will never walk a tightrope, but we face things that scare us every day. Whether putting ourselves out there socially or seeking a dream job, all of us allow anxieties and fears to hold us back. Facing Fear is a reader-centric memoir, interweaving parts of Nik's personal story of the accident and how he conquered his fear with practical advice for readers to overcome whatever fears are holding them back. This practical book will help everyday people step out in faith and trust that God will hold them steady, even when they're afraid.   Get Nik's book Facing Fear: Step Out in Faith and Rise Above What's Holding You Back.   For additional show notes, visit ShaunTabatt.com/485.   The Shaun Tabatt Show is part of the Destiny Image Podcast Network.

Happy Friday! This week on Life in a Leo, I interviewed one of my friends and fellow judges, Kathi Ortiz. Kathi is currently living in the Chicago area and got into the sport of gymnastics in 1968. In addition to being a successful gymnast, Kathi was also a coach, club owner, and a very well respected judge. Kathi has had the honor of judging NCAA National Championships four times and was one of two judges on the bars panel at the 2018 Nastia Liukin Cup, in addition to judging plenty of states, regionals, and national JO competitions. One of the other really cool experiences Kathi had was performing with The Flying Wallenda's. The Flying Wallendas is the name of a circus group, most known for performing highwire acts without a safety net. Hope everyone is having a great summer! Balance is essential. It stops us falling over or getting too cross and it stops machines failing catastrophically. There are also very fine balances present, more generally in nature and across the universe. But much of the World is not in exact and perpetual balance - it needs constant fine tuning. To help explore our latest understanding of balance in human beings, machines and music, Bridget Kendall talks to Patricia Kopatchinskaja, the distinguished Moldovan-Austrian violinist, who explores the internal balance need to play world class music; Jade Kindar-Martin, high wire artist and member of the Flying Wallendas who examines the fine tuning of mind and body needed to keep in balance on a high wire; Professor Andrew Heyes, head of Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, in Scotland who looks at the very fine balances needed to ensure machines work effectively and safely.
