We welcome Zach Browning from The Hoosier and On3 to talk about the recent recruiting successes for IU football, how this class looks a lot different than classes in the past, and what message Curt Cignetti and his staff have for potential recruits. We then pivot to basketball (25:58) and talk about the flood of official offers and visits that we are seeing from the men's program. We discuss the areas of impact in recruiting from Drew Adams, Rod Clark, and Kenny Johnson, the types of players that Darian DeVries is going after, and how this recruiting cycle is a unique one for the program.
In this episode, Bob Moats and Mike Wiemuth dive into the chaotic world of the college basketball transfer portal, examining how it's reshaping rosters across the country and what strategies teams are employing in this new landscape. After celebrating Mike's milestone birthday and discussing the historic announcement of the first Villanova alum Pope, Bob and Mike jump into their analysis of how different programs are using the portal to rebuild, reload, or completely transform their teams.Portal Strategies and Team TransformationsBob and Mike analyze several programs that have taken different approaches to transfer portal recruitment:• Iowa: Under new coach Ben McCollum, they've essentially imported his successful Drake team, bringing in key players like Bennett Sturtz while implementing a dramatically different style from Fran McCaffrey's up-tempo approach• Illinois: Bruce Underwood is building what Mike calls "the Serbian junior national team," bringing in international talent including Andre Cekovic (Peja Stojakovic's son) and the Tshiebwe brothers• Louisville: After struggling last season, they've addressed their shooting deficiencies by adding marksmen Isaac McNeely and Ryan Conwell to complement their incoming freshman stars• St. John's: Rick Pitino has assembled what could be "an Elite Eight level starting lineup just from the portal," showcasing how quickly a roster can be transformed• Purdue: Despite losing Cam Heide and Ethan Morton, they've maintained continuity around their core of Braden Smith, Fletcher Loyer, and promising international talentThey also discuss how some programs like North Carolina and Baylor have been gutted by portal departures, highlighting the double-edged nature of this new era in college basketball.Indiana's New-Look RosterThe final segment focuses on Indiana's roster under new coach Darren DeVries:• DeVries has prioritized shooting ability, building a roster where "nine of these ten guys are pretty solid definitely in that 35-ish percent or above range" from three-point range• Players like Lamar Wilkerson, Tucker DeVries, and Tayton Conerway bring complementary skills that should create better spacing and more dynamic offensive possibilities• Bob and Mike discuss potential lineup combinations, with Conerway and Connor Enright potentially sharing point guard duties, Reed Bailey anchoring the frontcourt, and shooters spreading the floor• Unlike previous IU teams that appeared "robotic" on offense, they expect this group to play with more flow and freedom while maintaining defensive intensity• They highlight the coaching staff's recruiting connections, particularly Kenny Johnson and Rod Clark's ties to elite AAU programs in the talent-rich "golden crescent" from the Northeast through the SouthThis entertaining and insightful episode provides a comprehensive look at how the transfer portal is reshaping college basketball, with particular focus on what it means for Indiana's future under Coach DeVries.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
The Positive Aging Community hosted a compelling and interactive discussion with the Purple Heart Foundation, co-hosted by Jim Hatch. The event, now available to watch on YouTube, brought together experts and advocates dedicated to supporting veterans, particularly as they transition into civilian life and explore new career opportunities.Jim Hatch, representing the Purple Heart Foundation, opened the conversation by sharing his personal connection to the military and the foundation's evolving mission. With deep roots in serving wounded veterans, the foundation is now focused on staying relevant to the needs of modern veterans-especially those navigating life after service.A central theme of the discussion was the unique opportunity for veterans in the death care industry. Kenny Johnson, founder of Sunbeam 369, and Mike Henshaw, both passionate advocates for veterans, highlighted how this field can be both meaningful and practical for those transitioning from military service.Pre-Planning and Green Burials: The panel emphasized the importance of pre-planning for end-of-life care, not only for peace of mind but also for financial and emotional well-being. Green burials were spotlighted as an eco-friendly and increasingly popular option.Career Pathways: The death care industry offers stable, rewarding careers for veterans. The skills and discipline gained in the military translate well to this field, which requires compassion, organization, and a strong sense of service.Certification and Training: The Sunbeam 369 Institute is launching a new training program to certify funeral service providers as Veterans Burial Benefits Specialists. This initiative aims to ensure that veterans and their families fully understand and utilize the burial benefits they have earned. The discussion underscored a critical gap: many veterans are unaware of the full range of burial benefits available to them. By educating both veterans and funeral service professionals, organizations like the Purple Heart Foundation and Sunbeam 369 are working to bridge this gap, ensuring that those who have served receive the dignity and support they deserve. As the Positive Aging Community continues to foster dialogue around aging, service, and support, this event stands out as a testament to the power of collaboration. By connecting veterans with meaningful career opportunities and vital resources, these organizations are not only honoring service but also paving the way for brighter, more secure futures.Watch the full discussion: Positive Aging Community with the Purple Heart FoundationFor more information on veteran burial benefits, career training, or to get involved, visit the Purple Heart Foundation and Sunbeam 369 websites.

On this edition of Parallax Views, 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of V: The Original Miniseries. A two-part sci-fi television event that brought in around 33 million homes, V was ostensibly the story of reptilian alien invading earth to steal it's resources and turn the human population into a food source. However, beneath the surface it acted as a parable about how fascism and authoritarianism can take hold in a country. In fact, it was inspired by Sinclair Lewis' classic novel It Can't Happen Here and was initially not about malevolent extraterrestrial invaders at all. In this conversation we discuss how V came to be, the conspiracy theorists who take the miniseries and it's reptilian invasion literally and Kenny's response to them, V as a parable about fascism, Kenny's work with Vincent Price on An Evening With Edgar Allen Poe, what Kenny thinks of being compared to The Twilight Zone's Rod Serling due to his interest in sci-fi that deals with social issues, the TV how Alien Nation, the cast of V (which included such names as Marc Singer of The Beastmaster franchise, Robert Englund of Freddy Krueger fame, Jane Badler, Andrew Prine, and many others), the Holocaust and how it tied into the story of V, racism and diversity and the way those topics figured into V, Kenny's sequel novel to V entitled V: The Second Generation, the possibility of a big screen movie remake of the miniseries, looking back on V in the era of Trump (and anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theories), V's dealing with the topic of anti-science sentiments and how they can be damaging to society, the way in which V is about two powerful women (the heroine Juliet and the villainous reptilian alien Diana), the cinematic quality of V and its European theatrical release, the studio's lack of faith in V and belief that it's dealing with social issues of the time would be too intellectual for American audiences, and much, much more!

Our conversation today with Kit Redmer, Communications Director for the City of Winchester included Kenny Johnson, the city's Transportation Operations Manager to give details about WinReady, a microtransit system being rolled out this coming spring. WinReady is a new initiative that is expected to have a significant positive impact on public transit users, particularly students and families, across Winchester. The service will allow people to travel on-demand from point to point using an app or via phone reservations. The new system would be an overhaul of the current one and Kenny explained that it's especially suitable for the size of Winchester, with many trips expected to take only 10 or 15 minutes. The new system uses the same fleet of buses, covers the entire city of Winchester, and will run from 6am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays. All public transit in Winchester is free to ride until July 1, 2024. Kenny told us about the changes coming to the existing bus routes when this new initiative rolls out - likely in March 2024 - and the decrease in wait times at bus stops due to the new "loop system." Kit emphasized the radical change this service represents and encouraged community members to provide feedback through a focus group on the city's website. Learn more about WinReady, find upcoming public information sessions, and sign up for the city's newsletter on their website: https://www.winchesterva.gov/

Thanks for inviting me to your haunted house, you f**king pricks, I'm gonna be up all night. Season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown has concluded. A show that seems to live below the radar, Mayor of Kingstown became even better in Season 2. While it's not as slick and polished as other similar shows, the messiness of the show actually echoes the messy, flawed nature of the characters, which is what makes it great to watch. The series also leaned more into dark humor this season, to great effect. Jeremy Renner is great in this, and Tobi Bamtefa and Taylor Handley and Hugh Dillon and Dianne Wiest and Aiden Gillen and Michael Beach and Kenny Johnson... they all get moments to shine. Did you watch Season 2 of Mayor of Kingstown?Come back to Watch This Tonight as your podcast for the best TV recommendations. In this episode of The Success Lift Podcast, Brian has an interesting conversation with Kenny Johnson. Kenny works as a coach, helping men understand their feelings, manage their emotions, and optimize their bodies. Today, Kenny explains that the great majority of people – and he sees that through his clients – don't really know why they have poor habits and for that reason, have a hard time trying to change. In addition, Kenny talks about his own mindset shifts and the work he had to do on himself before being able to help others do the work on themselves. A lot of times, mentors and coaches are seen as people who have all figured out when it comes to healthy habits, relationships, or work, but they are also learning. At the end of the day, as Brian and Kenny point out, we are all a work in progress. Tune in! Key Highlights Kenny talks about his background, the first steps of his career, and his experience transitioning to the coaching world; Kenny explains that it's important to investigate why we behave the way we do; Most of the times, poor habits have an explanation behind (5 whys); In order to be an excellent coach and know how to help others through coaching, Kenny had to work on himself first; Brian and Kenny discuss the differences between ‘male' and ‘man' and how they correlate with the concept of leadership (making decisions); Kenny explains that through the work he does with his clients he found out that people are lacking self-love and don't really understand their belief systems. This week, Penn State recruiting ended their "extended dead period," as recruiting insider Ryan Snyder called it. The BWI Daily Recruiting Show is here to give you the scoop on what's new and what names are important as the Nittany Lions get into the quiet recruiting period, where players can take visits to Happy Valley. Reporter Greg Pickel and Snyder run down the information of the week. Before getting to Penn State's first visitor of March, they start with the Nittany Lion's camp schedule for the summer. First, Snyder points out two key differences with Penn State's camp schedule and plan over the last several years. He explains why they're essential to understanding and then contextualizes the change. Next, he runs down the camp dates and the critical things to know about most of the schedule. After that, Pickel gives his thoughts on why it's crucial to have high school teams, not all-star teams at camps. From there, Snyder discusses Penn State's first visiting player for the Class of 2023 in March, Cameron Lenhardt. How did things go for the IMG Academy defensive end? Also, why was he up north this week? Finally, Snyder fills in those details from his conversation with the four-star edge rusher earlier in the week. Next, they get into the key players in the Class of 2023 on the offensive side of the ball. Snyder has paired down his hot boards for the class and shares the key names for this spring. They start at quarterback, and while Dante Moore is on the list, the key names are JJ Kolh out of Iowa and Marcus Stokes out of Florida. So what makes those players the standouts? Snyder fills in what he knows and gives some personal thoughts on what Mike Yurcich is looking for in a quarterback. From there, they discuss the Penn State running back board, which includes a recent offer in Scranton Prep's London Montgomery. He and Florida rusher Treyaun Webb seem to be the clear-cut favorites to land at Penn State, but Snyder throws in other national names. At tight end, there's really only one name to know. Michigan commit Andrew Rappleyea wants to visit other schools after changes on the Michigan staff, and Penn State is one of his destinations. From there, they head to receiver and start with Penn State's top targets. Four-star receivers Rodney Gallagher and Noah Rogers remain the teams' highest priority targets while others stay in the mix, like Dallastown's Kenny Johnson. Finally, they head to the offensive line room to see who else Penn State might fit into its already loaded class. Several interior players come up on the show and are possible targets despite Penn State's depth inside players. Yet, the top two players remaining are tackle prospects Samson Okunlola and Evan Link. Snyder explains why each, but especially Link, is key. #PennState #NittanyLions JOIN Blue White Illustrated: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/join/?plan=annual SUBSCRIBE to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable alerts - new highlights and videos uploaded regularly: https://www.youtube.com/c/bluewhiteillustratedvideo?sub_confirmation Bookmark our homepage: https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/ Subscribe to BWI Magazine and Newsletters: http://bluewhiteonline.com Download our podcasts: https://cms.megaphone.fm/channel/LRL3155877513?selected=DSVV2664982394 Like us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BlueWhiteIllustrated/ Follow us on Twitter https://twitter.com/PennStateOn3 Sound effects obtained from https://www.zapsplat.com Learn more about your ad choices.
