Before CBS launched a reboot of The Odd Couple (based on Neil Simon's hit play) in 2015, ABC decided to revive their old hit series as The New Odd Couple in the fall of 1982. With African-American actors Ron Glass and Demond Wilson as Felix and Oscar, respectively, this new version was not successful and was canceled after just 13 episodes. (ABC launched a Saturday morning cartoon version of the show, The Oddball Couple, in 1975, the year the original series ended its run)

October 12, 2022 My wife and I have become addicted to watching really old television shows in the morning. It used to be common for us to check in with Good Morning America, Today and CBS. Bad news serves as a magnet. It poisons the attempt to have a great day. Viewers tuning in to measure the distance between them and the worst of storms. The drama on Bachelor Father, Bewitched and Father Knows Best is better for the morning diet. But I would love to see the numbers on the cause and effects of morning news. It goes untouched because it's journalist's doing their jobs of informing, shaping and educating the community. 90% of what we take in while watching those morning news programs is something we can't do anything about. It's out of our control. But we still get emotionally attached. The weakest part of this journey? When the news we're getting becomes hearsay. We receive it. By the time it reaches another person we've shared our interpretation and or opinion. It's based on fact. No thanks! I want my really old television shows!

The stock market has been an absolute roller coaster of ups and downs which has made many Canadians ask, "What's going on here?" Scott welcomes someone onto the show who'll be able to help provide some clarity on what's happening as well as provide some advice on navigating these seemingly turbulent waters. Guest: Don Fox, Executive Financial Consultant, Fox Group Private Wealth Management - While most of the world and its industries strive for innovation and the next best thing, television is looking to the past. Whether it's old shows that fans already know and love or news anchors that viewers have come to trust, it seems like everything old is being revamped and reintroduced to audiences. Why is this and what is it saying about TV viewership? We update you on the ongoing lawsuits against the FD with the vaccination mandate deadline passing for city employees. Danny explains how the lines between official and unofficial FD business can get blurred at times. We talk again about why this vaccine controversy exists in the first place, why the logic behind it is flawed, and the lawsuit is going nowhere. We talk again about how good men can be led to believe that voluntarily quitting their dream job is not only logical, but their only choice. How principles aren't really principles without consistency, & the irony of giving up your career because you're being advised to refuse a life saving vaccine, by people who were vaccinated themselves. Then we look back after 60 episodes at some of our forgotten early episodes (the 1st 15) & break down why they deserve another listen (except the 1st episode we agree was a mess). It's a great insight into the early days of the pod when we laid some amazing stories on our listeners before people really grasped what we were doing. Danny marvels at Ben's ability to remember every episode and guest in order, & we tease an upcoming episode with guys who will expand on the craziest and most overlooked rescue story ever on the show.

Old Americana has taught us many things. For those of us who never lived in the 50s, only love the styles, we should be paying attention to other things. As parents, there are many undiscovered hidden meanings and lessons to be learned by watching this show. Just trying it out, so it may or may not stick and stay Weekends: Allen didn't do a whole lot on Friday. Saturday he completed the install of his Radium Engineering's AOS-R (Air-Oil-Seperator Return) which took 9 hours because instructions undershoot time. Trip to Waxahachie in order to pick up wedding decorations for August and ran into a bit of car trouble, but nothing that a quick fix couldn't solve (no duct tape involved). Justin was off on Friday and enjoyed sleeping in. He and the wife talked about going out for the 4th, but decided to play it safe and lay low, so they stayed home. He had quite a few long conversations wtih his sister, talking about old time and school. JT did some home remodeling with his sister. He also worked a bit on his new-to-him Subaru Forester. This is his new norm. Scott started reading a new book called "Way of the Warrior" by Erwin McManus and contemplated inner peace and what it means to him. Saturday he did not go to Rudy's because of COVID, but he participated in a Zoom call, went to Dan's place and had some coffee. Later he had the breakfast of champions. He also came over to Allen's place and helped with the install. He started watching "You're the Worst" on Hulu. Sunday he celebrated his son's 15th birthday at his mom's house and ended with homemade ice cream. -- Segment II: Well we start off talking politics, namely Kanye West running for president of The United States. There's a bit of talk about teachers as well. Scott poses a question about what movie/tv show we would like to be in. Lastly we end on Marvel/DC comics and characters. We hope you enjoyed. We begin the show by discussing NYC’s DA who told my old boss they want every episode of The Gavin McInnes Show. They are trying to get evidence to prosecute the Proud Boys, particularly our buddy Big John. He has a black wife and black kids so proving he’s a member of a hate group is going to be a stretch. Especially because she’s the one who suggested it. Then, we switch gears and talk about Ryan going to a nude beach, which is gross. Finally, a Mail Bag special where we examine the worst letters we’ve ever received.

Inspired by some recent stories about people rediscovering ER, Frasier and Friends on streaming services, Matt and Ed spend this week's episode talking about the joy of eschewing the glut of new TV shows in order to dig into the classics, as well as what those older shows can teach us about how television, and culture more generally, have changed. They also discuss the great GQ profile of Brendan Fraser, what their great-grandparents would make of their current jobs, and the pitch for the Friends finale that Ed wrote when he was 16. 00:00:00 - 00:05:17 - Intro 00:05:18 - 00:21:11 - News 00:21:12 - 01:14:16 - Matt & Ed discuss discovering older TV shows 01:14:17 - 01:21:25 - SRS Recommends & Outro

We talk with the old homie Lil Rel Howery on this episode. If you're not from Chicago you may feel really weird when we talk about different driving routes. You actually may feel weird about it even if you're from Chicago. On several occasions I talk about Lil Rel like he's not sitting with us. We discuss the effect of Get Out briefly but don't delve too much into it because I'm a terrible interviewer. Rel also gets briefly amazed by the theremin. Fellow Chicagoan Brian Babylon sits in on this ep. Get Out is available on digital May 9th and on DVD May 23rd. In this episode of Picked Up, we prove again to be so much more than a TV pod. New Shows! Old Shows! Movies! Sports! New Contest! Still not killing people! After all that, Rob & Rich talk about NBC's Hannibal and the pressures of living up to legendary expectations.
Today we talk about some strange audio issues. The good news is the show must go on (the sound isn't that bad on the recording). What Do you Do With Old Shows? I use a service called backblaze.com to backup my files. You can get 15 Gigs from onedrive.com (free). Media Fire Seagate Expansion 2TB Desktop External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STBV2000100) Amazon Glacier Amazon Links? [10:18] You can make easy to remember links with the plugin called Pretty Link (there is a free and paid version). Dave gets nervous making a yourwebsites.com/amazon Definitely do not make amazon.yourwebsite.com Be sure to read their terms of use and service paperwork. There are some gray areas. There is a gray area if you send people to amazon without them knowing its an amazon links Thanks to Rem from the sci-fimoviepodcast.com Audio from Computer in the podcast [22:30] I hate when the sound of someone computer keeps popping up. Beining Sounds Live in the Podcast [26:43] I use Soundbyte software on my iPad. I also use Bossjock Studio (I have figured out how to pause now). It's much easier to add files to bossjock via dropbox. Releasing All Episodes At Once [29:13] At first it looks like the older files don't get much traction. Over time this evens out. Also if you don't listen to all the episodes, Apple's podcasts app might unsubscribe you from the podcast Apple Bought Swell [32:25] Daniel from the Audacity to Podcast wanted to know what we thought about Apple Buying the Swell App. Liveaudiocast.co [52:45] Potential spreaker competitor (all in one system). Dave will be investigating. Check them out at liveaudiocast.co Mentioned on the Show Auphonic.com
