Australia has become a laboratory for the energy transition, what can the rest of the world learn? After two weeks travelling across Australia and meeting the leaders shaping its energy transition, Michael Liebreich got a close up view of the country's transformation. For the final episode of Cleaning Up's Deep Dive Australia series, the host becomes the guest as Anna Freeman of the Energy Efficiency Council turns the tables and puts Michael in the hot seat to ask him what he has learned. Michael divides his takeaways into the good, the less good and the “downright ugly”, from Australia's extraordinary rooftop solar and battery uptake to its struggles with wind, transmission and diesel. He also asks whether the country really can become a clean energy superpower, and what its successes and failures can teach the rest of the world. Topics covered in this episode: Australia's rooftop solar advantage Why batteries are beating gas The missing middle of electrification Can transmission keep up? Australia's expensive wind problem The China challenge Breaking the diesel addiction Why EVs may be finally taking off Leadership Circle: Cleaning Up is proud to be supported by its Leadership Circle. Welcome to our motorsports podcast where we discuss F1, IndyCar, IMSA, NASCAR, our own racing adventures, and some other adventures!A new street course with a mixed review. The weekend started off slow and bad after the track not being set up in time which led to no running at all on Friday. From there much of the scrutiny was about the hairpin which was a hot corner for action at a very very slow pace. In the end, the race turned out to be very entertaining with a full throttle run to the end that saw Marcus Ericsson charge through the top 5 and pass Romain Grosjean for the win in the final 10 laps. An excellent podium with Ericsson, Grosjean, and Power. With all that said, Palou finished a measly 4th which has extended his championship lead over the few behind him that are in contention. Now with a points lead of 133, we could see the championship decided this weekend on the streets of DC for the Freedom 250!Joey Logano wins at Richmond for the Cup Series.Coming up this weekend: F1 is at Zandvoort, IndyCar is in DC, IMSA is at VIR, SuperGT is at Suzuka, and NASCAR is at NHMS.

One of the fastest growing groups of acquirers is the self funded searcher. A searcher is not a competitor nor a private equity group. A searcher is usually one person, often recently out of an MBA program, who puts ten to twenty percent down from personal savings, borrows the rest from a bank, often asks the owner to finance part of the purchase price, and signs a personal guarantee for the debt. Owners find searchers appealing for good reasons. They may pay your asking price, and they promise to look after your employees rather than fold them into someone else's operation.

On this week's Extra Serving, NRN editor in chief Sam Oches and executive editor Alicia Kelso discuss the latest restaurant industry news, including Salad and Go closing all of its restaurants and major chains reporting their latest quarterly earnings, from McDonald's and Burger King to Wendy's, Texas Roadhouse, Bloomin' Brands, Dine Brands, Sweetgreen, and more. First up is the news that Salad and Go had closed all 70 or so of its remaining restaurants while simultaneously filing for Ch. 11 bankruptcy protection. The sudden closure comes just a few years after Salad and Go sold to Volt Investment Holdings and aggressively pursued growth with its value-oriented drive-thru salad concept. Sam and Alicia discuss what went wrong for Salad and Go and what it suggests about other emerging chains pursuing growth. Next they tackle a very busy week of restaurants earnings, starting with chains that boasted positive sales. That included Texas Roadhouse and Bloomin' Brands — both of which are proving that consumers are seeking value in the casual steakhouse experience — as well as IHOP, First Watch, Dutch Bros, and El Pollo Loco. Then they shift their focus to chains that had only a so-so quarter, particularly McDonald's and Applebee's. McDonald's quarter especially was out of character — same-store sales only rose by 0.8% — and the company acknowledged that its marketing initiatives were not executed to their expectation. The result led to McDonald's USA president Joe Erlinger stepping down and COO Skye Anderson promoted to the position. Next up, Sam and Alicia dig into the chains that had particularly bad quarters: Popeyes, Portillo's, Papa Johns, Wendy's, and Sweetgreen. Wendy's especially had a brutal quarter, with traffic dropping 12.5%, while Papa Johns continued a streak of negative sales that led to the chain shaking up its marketing leadership. Why are these brands struggling so much? And what should they do to turn things around? Sam and Alicia discuss. They close on a high note: Burger King posted one of its best quarters in years and surpassed Wendy's to become the second-largest burger chain by sales. Sam and Alicia examine what is going right for Burger King and why they think it is the best story of the year so far. For more on these stories: Burger King's sales took off last quarter, but Popeyes is in a slumpDine Brands reports Q2 IHOP outperformance while Applebee's sees slow improvementWendy's takes steps to fix its brand as sales fall again

Jake Mintz and Jordan Shusterman break down the National League MVP race after Pete Crow-Armstrong and Shohei Ohtani both hit two home runs in the finale of the Chicago Cubs' three-game sweep over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The guys dive deep into PCA's leap as a hitter—including cutting his chase rate by 7.5%—and contrast his elite center field defense with Ohtani's offensive dominance and 85.2 innings on the mound. They also run through the rest of the MLB awards landscape, including Yordan Alvarez commanding the AL MVP, Dylan Cease battling Cam Schlittler for the AL Cy Young, Jacob Misiorowski facing Cristopher Sanchez for NL Cy Young, and key Rookie of the Year contenders. Next, the mailbag opens up for a series of wild conspiracy theories and listener emails. The hosts evaluate whether Detroit Tigers owner Chris Ilitch traded Tarik Skubal to the Dodgers to fuel salary cap animosity, debate whether non-Dodgers front offices hold a "loser mentality," address a Washington Nationals fan's frustration over trading core stars, and discuss why Gen Z players keep trolling about whether Babe Ruth was a real person. Finally, it's Friday, which means it's time for "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly". Highlights from "The Good" include the Boston Red Sox's wild 13-inning comeback against the Chicago White Sox and Jefry Yan's leaping strikeout debut for the New York Mets. "The Bad" covers Harrison Bader's fire truck scooter accident and Kevin Gausman's daughter roasting the Blue Jays. Can a brand built on purpose survive when its mission is put at risk? The hosts dive into the escalating conflict between Ben & Jerry's and its parent company over funding cuts to the ice cream maker's philanthropic foundation, debating whether a brand so closely tied to a social mission can preserve its identity after acquisition and how the dispute could influence consumer loyalty in an increasingly competitive premium ice cream category. The discussion also examines how founders should approach purpose-driven branding, with early-stage sparkling water brand Atomico serving as an example of a young company that integrates its mission into its business without overshadowing the product itself. The hosts also sample and review a variety of emerging products, including South Chicago Packing's Wagyu Beef Tallow Spray, Cozy's refrigerated snack bars made with grass-fed butter, Bakeful's better-for-you brownies, muffins and donuts, MixMix THC beverage stick packs, and Muffits protein mini muffins. Show notes: 0:20: On Tap. Social Scoops No More? Space Age Sparkling Water. Tallow & Butter. Munchin' On Muffins. The hosts preview two upcoming community events: the Taste Radio Chicago Meetup at Pilot Project Brewing on Aug. 13 and a Nombase webinar featuring executives from Goodles and Culture Pop on July 28. They then explore whether a purpose-driven brand can preserve its identity after being acquired, and how changes to its philanthropic commitments could reshape consumer perception. As a counterpoint, they spotlight an emerging functional sparkling water brand that supports STEM education through NASA Space Camp scholarships. Later, Melissa highlights a beefy cooking spray, Ray shares a pair of brands—one making better-for-you yet indulgent snack bars and another reimagining Hostess-style treats for today's consumers. Mike stirs things up with powdered drink mixes, and the episode wraps with a discussion of protein snacks—because, of course, it does. Brands in this episode: Goodles, Culture Pop, Nantucket Nectars, Annie's, Ben & Jerry's, Stonyfield, Jeni's, Van Leeuwens, Salt & Straw, Tillamook, Atomico, Spindrift, South Chicago Packing, COZY, Bakeful, MixMix, Muffits

In this episode of On The Mark, Mark Immelman returns from Scotland with fresh insight from a week of Links Golf, the Genesis Scottish Open, and Open Championship week. Mark breaks down Tom Kim's impressive victory at the Genesis Scottish Open and shares what golfers of all levels can learn from his patience, maturity, shot-making, routine, and renewed approach to the game. After a period of searching, coaching changes, and mental clutter, Tom Kim found his way back by simplifying his swing, trusting his process, and accepting that even great work does not always produce immediate results. Mark also dives into the unique demands of links golf: firm fairways, tight lies, pot bunkers, wind, trajectory control, creativity, patience, recovery, and attitude. Whether you are preparing for a golf trip, watching The Open Championship, or simply trying to improve your everyday game, this episode is packed with practical lessons you can apply immediately. In This Episode, You'll Learn: What Tom Kim's Scottish Open victory teaches golfers about patience and maturity. Why good practice does not always guarantee good results. How expectations can hurt your performance. The “Golf Life Cycle” of good, indifferent, bad, indifferent, and good play. Why you should not panic when your game starts trending downward. How to identify your strengths, habits, and tendencies as a golfer. Why short game and recovery skills are essential when your ball striking is off. What Tom Kim changed in his swing to create more consistency. How quiet wrists can help stabilize the club face. A simple centered pivot drill you can do at home. Why “Operation 30” can help golfers stop overthinking. How to play firm, fast links conditions. Why the chip-and-run is so valuable on tight lies. How to vary trajectory and club selection in changing conditions. When to use the putter from off the green, and How to better understand and manage wind on the golf course. Key Takeaways: Golf improvement is holistic. Fitness, energy, walking endurance, mindset, and swing mechanics all affect performance. Links golf rewards patience, creativity, recovery, and smart decision-making. Tom Kim's win was a lesson in maturity, patience, conviction, and simplifying the mind. When your game gets shaky, return to your fundamentals instead of trying every quick fix. Great players make their bad days decent by relying on short game, putting, and smart course management. Quiet wrists can help improve club face control and ball striking consistency. A centered pivot can help improve contact, especially in wind. Doubt creates tension, and tension wrecks golf swings. A confident swing with the wrong club is often better than a doubtful swing with the right club. Wind hurts more than it helps, so plan accordingly, and Practicing different trajectories, uneven lies, and wind conditions can prepare you for real golf. This podcast is a one-stop shop where you will get game improvement insights, Links Golf insights and a nugget or two on how to deal with the inevitable slumps in golf. TOPICS Episode 329*Reviewing the Good, Bad, and Ugly of Portugal's World Cup.*The entire squad deserves blame. Not Just Cristiano Ronaldo. Will he return for the Nations League? *Is Jorge Jesus a good fit for the Seleção?
Cristiano Ronaldo's World Cup journey is over, and whether we'll ever see him in a Portugal shirt again remains to be seen. In this special edition of Football Daily, BBC business editor Simon Jack and journalist Zing Tsjeng brings you an episode of the Good Bad Billionaire podcast, exploring how Ronaldo transformed himself from a boy growing up in poverty on the remote island of Madeira into one of the most recognisable people on the planet. Together they trace Ronaldo's remarkable rise from a homesick teenager at Sporting CP's academy to global superstardom with Manchester United and Real Madrid, where relentless dedication, record-breaking performances and shrewd business decisions helped turn him into both a sporting icon and a global brand. Zing and Simon explore the business of modern football: from mega transfers and billion-dollar brand deals, to tax battles and legal disputes. Ronaldo leveraged social media fame to build his CR7 empire, so is he the ultimate self-made success story, a divisive global brand, or simply the most effective monetiser of talent in sporting history? Good Bad Billionaire is the podcast that explores the lives of the super-rich and famous, tracking their wealth, philanthropy, business ethics, and success. If you want to listen to more of the podcast, including episodes about LeBron James and Roman Abramovich, then search ‘Good Bad Billionaire' on BBC Sounds.
