The K-shaped consumer is redefining the outlook for the U.S. economy. While overall spending remains resilient, growth is increasingly concentrated among higher-income households, creating widening gaps across income levels. As policy shifts, AI adoption, and healthcare innovations reshape behavior, the consumer landscape is becoming more uneven. In this episode of The Bid, host Oscar Pulido is joined by Lisa Yang, Portfolio Manager and Co-Head of the Consumer Industry Group within BlackRock Fundamental Equities, to assess the state of the U.S. consumer heading into 2026. From wage growth and labor market dynamics to fiscal policy, tariffs, and immigration, Lisa explains how macro forces are influencing spending patterns — and why resilience is strongest at the high end. Craig Johnson, chief market technician at Piper Sandler, says three consecutive years of stock market gains aren't going to come to a dead stop, but he does think the market's pace will slow down in 2026, where he has a target for the Standard & Poor's 500 of 7,150. Johnson expects a strong first quarter, but suggests investors might want to start building up cash for a pullback that could occur in the second or third quarter, noting that this market is "acting more like a light switch than a dimmer," meaning it will have on-off volatility rather than more gentle moves. David Goerz, chief executive and chief investment officer at Strategic Frontier Management, sees the market reaching a similar peak — he picked 7,200 on the S&P as his target — and also forecast a correction or downturn in the spring or early summer, but he says that the fundamentals behind his process suggest that small-caps and international stocks will be the areas that ultimately carry the market higher. In "The Week That Is," Vijay Marolia, chief investment officer at Regal Point Capital, discusses how Venezuela — in the news due to the arrest of its president — should not be overlooked for its economic impact, despite being a frontier market, discusses how energy markets will sort out the issues there and talks about how capitalism continues to show its dominance over socialism.

S-Corp highlighted a recent report by economist Don Schneider quantifying the tax relief millions Americans can expect in the next year as a result of the OB3. It's a big number, so we invited Don, the Deputy Head of US policy at Piper Sandler, to explain why this could be the biggest refund season ever. Don also reviews the future of tariffs (and why they're likely here to stay even if courts weigh in) and shares his thoughts on why the government shutdown might end in early November.
While many analysts are worried about the weakening jobs market, today's guest thinks it might be exactly what's needed for the economy to get...better?Michael Kantrowitz, chief investment strategist & managing director at Piper Sandler, is best known for his H.O.P.E. framework -- which predicts how recessions start and end.Michael sees the economy as potentially entering "goldilocks" conditions of rising growth, disinflation, lower interest rates and low oil prices. The weakening job market is disinflationary AND provides the incentive for the Fed to cut rates. That actually creates the kind of conditions that we normally see with economy recoveries. So, does that mean the market will continue rising?Watch this video to find out.TIME'S NEARLY UP! Middle Market Musings kicks off its fifth season with a true survivor. Steve Tipler is managing director in the Financial Sponsors group at Piper Sandler Companies. He has survived a lifetime of Minnesota winters, a long-tenured friendship with Charlie Gifford, 20 years in the investment banking business and becoming a parent in the 1990s and in the 2020s. He shares all in a wide-ranging discussion. Valuable insights include his thoughts on the Piper Sandler platform as well as the world of sponsor coverage, post-pandemic. Andy and Charlie are rusty (stated politely) after a summer off, but with such low ceilings for competence and engagement, they quickly return to “peak” form.
Carl Quintanilla, Sara Eisen, and David Faber kicked off the hour looking at the latest data on jobs and US GDP - before diving into what it all means for stocks with Piper Sandler's Chief Investment Strategist. Plus: the earnings names you need to know... Accenture CEO Julie Sweet joined the team to breakdown new numbers from her company, while one housing analyst joined Post 9 with his housing playbook following results out of KB Home. Also in focus: hear the latest reporting around a possible Tiktok deal today - and breaking news during the hour - a recap of the new Supreme Court amicus brief in support of Fed Governor Lisa Cook from every living former Fed Chair, many former Treasury Secretaries & even CEA chairs.Squawk on the Street Disclaimer Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Likefolio's Andy Swan comments on the Piper Sandler teen survey showing a drop off in popularity for Crocs, along with Nike (NKE) and Converse. He thinks a “generational shift” is going on, with web visits and stock price both dropping. Andy discusses the cyclicality of fashion, and emphasizes that Likefolio's international data is limited, even as Crocs seeks to expand abroad. He also talks about whether their acquisition of HEYDUDE has failed to meet expectations.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.
