This week we are thrilled to have Cey Adams on the program.Cey Adams is a New York City native and visionary artist, who emerged from the downtown graffiti movement in the 80's alongside fellow artists and friends Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. Adams began his art career while still in his teens, tagging “Cey City” on subway cars and painting graffiti murals to showcase his artwork. He appeared in the historic PBS documentary Style Wars about subway graffiti in New York. In 1983, Cey Adams met The Beastie Boys. They developed a fast friendship with the band and designed their first logo, t-shirts and singles. The Beastie Boys and Adams would go on to be longtime collaborators including designing the album: “Hello Nasty”. Around the same time he met manager/music producer Russell Simmons where Adams designed logos and merch for his artists. A few years later Simmons along with music producer Rick Rubin founded Def Jam Recordings where Adams served as the founding Creative Director. In the late 80s Adams and his partner Steve Carr co-founded the Drawing Board, Def Jam's in-house visual design firm overseeing the visual style of Def Jam's artists. The firm was responsible for some of the most iconic album covers, logos and advertising campaigns for Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, The Notorious B.I.G., DMX, Jay-Z, Usher, Mary J. Blige, and many more.Adams has also collaborated with global brands including Levi's, Mattel, The Recording Academy, Apple, Bacardi, IDEO, Foot Locker, Converse, YouTube, Google, and many more. These days he has returned back to his fine art roots. He exhibits, lectures, and teaches art workshops at leading institutions including: The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, MoMA , Brooklyn Museum, Museum of the City of New York, School of Visual Arts, and museums around the world. He currently has a solo exhibition, Combinations, opened on October 21st in Austin at the West Chelsea Contemporary. The show is on view until November 19th so you have like a week left to go see it. Cey also has a traveling retrospective exhibition called Departure: 40 Years of Art and Design. The show debuted last year at Boston University Stone Gallery and is currently on view at the College of Visual Arts & Design at University of North Texas Denton. It will travel to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami next year.

– Vídeo eliminado: https://www.univision.com/shows/mistico-e-inexplicable/por-que-se-llama-lucifer-el-telescopio-del-vaticano-video EL DÍA QUE BUZZ ALDRIN TROMPEÓ EN LA CALLE A UN HOMBRE QUE LO LLAMÓ MENTIROSO: https://www.clarin.com/viste/video-dia-buzz-aldrin-trompeo-calle-hombre-llamo-mentiroso_0_eTfw7zvMg.html CQC – La NASA es una Shitcom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzrHhHULKGE BRIAN MULLIN – The ISS, Satellites, and the Thermosphere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ukbILA8um4 GRABACIONES QUE DEMUESTRAN LA INEXISTENCIA DE CURVATURA TERRESTRE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwimocU0IIc FÉLIX BAUMGARTNER - Salto estratosférico: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEOLJxJPTD8 SONIDOS DEL INFIERNO – Pozo superprofundo Kola: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sTwFZuIOrM INQUIETANTE DESCUBRIMIENTO EN EL FONDO SUBMARINO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqly3FmIPcg MUEREN EN UN ACCIDENTE DOS COLEGAS DEL CINEASTA JAMES CAMERON: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egsOODZIZbw DESCUBRIÓ “ALGO” EN EL FONDO DEL MAR – Murió misteriosamente: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_fTUteNoT0 LOS ASTRONAUTAS SE VOLVIERON LOCOS - Documental: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Na8g_BoYuM BIBLIOGRAFÍA: ROWBOTHAM, S.B. Hello Nasty is the fifth studio album by Beastie Boys. Released in 1998, it was a critical & commercial smash for the group, reaching number one in the US & UK. But, at 67 minutes in length, is it too long? Yes say podcast hosts Stephen and Paul & their guests, Beastie Boys fans Bryan Borthwick & author Mark Poole. With that in mind, they do a deep dive into the album to create an under 50 minute, single vinyl version of it. Which tracks will get a spot? Intergalactic? Body Movin'? Remote Control? Listen now to find out. Like the podcast? TRIMMING THE CLASSIC POD: “What's the time, it's time to get ill“. Beastie Boys' 1986 debut album ‘Licensed To Ill' was a game changer for the rap genre. The first rap album to reach number one in the US; it has sold over 10M copies there alone. But which songs are least deserving of a place on this classic? Which are the best? That's what podcast hosts Stephen & Paul discussed with lifelong BB fans - Bryan Borthwick and author Mark Poole. We're ready to fight for our right to party. Are you? Come back next week for another Beastie Boys episode: Trimming their 1998 album - ‘Hello Nasty'. Like the podcast? Panthers…IN SPAAAAACE! For their first Four-Color Flashback of 2022, Paul and Arlo look to the stars, where they find Black Panther: The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. The second half of Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther run, these 25 issues--with art by Daniel Acuña, Kev Walker, and Ryan Bodenheim, among others--concern T'Challa's rise from slave to legend in an alien empire that bears his kingdom's name. The boys discuss Coates' bold new direction, the question of expansion vs. imperialism at the heart of the book, Acuña's photorealistic interstellar action compared to Walker's more abstract emphasis on character, and that goddamn symbiote. Plus, an acknowledgement of how surreal it is to be reading a comic book depiction of war at this particular moment, Amazon's evisceration of comiXology, and more. NEXT: let's party like it's 1999-2003. For the first of a two-part exploration of the Wachowskis' Matrix series, Mimesis author Eric Sipple jacks in to discuss the original trilogy. Whoa. As our story of The Beasties comes to it's final stop, Carolina and Marcus breakdown a time in the group's career when they had already achieved greatness but strove to artistically take their sound to another level. Through new found collaborations and pulling from all of the creative elements that made up their earlier successes, the 3 MCs from NYC would go on to record "Hello Nasty" & some of the most memorable hits in their catalog. Lastly, with a new, slightly-more mature point of view, the Beastie Boys enter the swan song era of their career, which sadly ends in 2012 with the loss of founding member MCA Adam Yauch. SUPPORT ME ON PATREON WATCH MUSIC is not a GENRE VIDEOS and MORE WTF?!? That's what goes through my head every time I think of the Beastie Boys. ONE because how is it these self-described funky-punky idiots were one of the main acts that changed the face of music in the 1980s? TWO because how did they then become well respected innovators, outspoken activists & legends, with a long career to rival the biggest acts of any genre? THIRD because how can it all be over?!? So much of the Beastie Boys story makes no sense that it almost DOES make sense that one of them would be dead, and almost a DECADE AGO. But no, not even that computes. These were three guys – great friends, bandmates & collaborators – who always came back together, no matter what happened in the interim. Unexpected successes. Career pressures. Explorations beyond the bounds of accepted form. Life changes. Hiatuses that seemed to go on forever but were way shorter than, say, the wait for Chinese Democracy. No matter what happened, they always came back. And then Adam Yauch died. The soul of the band the way Terry Kath was the soul of Chicago. The difference is while Chicago soldiered on and reinvented in both clever and disappointing ways, the Beasties – now Adam Horovitz & Mike Diamond – realized that carrying on without MCA would NOT be the Beastie Boys. So as usual, when Dumb Death gets in the way, we're left with memories & reissues & the hopes for more funky innovation crushed. I respect Ad Rock & Mike D's decision to shift gears, and love that they put out such a freakin' comprehensive love letter to music, their awesome threesome-ness, and Adam Yauch that is their 2020 mega quad pack Beastie Boys Book, the documentary Beastie Boys Story, the compilation album Beastie Boys Music, and Spike Jonze's photo tribute Beastie Boys. It was an explosion of beautiful energy that I can only hope results in more. As for the actual music, License to Ill is deep in my DNA. My music wouldn't be my music without it. Their next three albums moved – LEAPED – the hip hop & general music conversation forward in three different ways, with Ill Communication being my fave because it was a distillation of all three of them. Plus I just love mid ‘90s hip hop. Hello Nasty proved they could top the charts fifteen years out, and was their personal favorite. To the 5 Boroughs reminded me why I love NYC so much, and has lyrics I remember to this day. And Hot Sauce Committee Part Two reminded everyone else that they were in complete command of both creation AND the charts straight to the end. You wanna hear their influence on me? Listen to just about anything, but start here: REC – “The Power of Repetition (Everlasting)” (from the album Syncopy for the Weird) Are you a Beasties fan? If so, what's your favorite album? How did you feel about Adam Yauch's death? Do you wish Adam H. & Mike D. would still create music together, and/or do you understand why they've all but retired? Discuss dammit! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/nick-dematteo/support

In this episode Michael and Brad dive into two 90’s Roms; a Rom-Com (For Love or Money) and a Rom-Dram (Bridges of Madison County). For Love or Money is on Netflix at release of this episode and stars Michael J Fox as a crafty concierge at a fancy NYC hotel. Bridges of Madison County is on HBO streaming at the time of release of this episode and stars Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep in a sleepy Iowa farm town in the 1960s. You can also check out what we’re feeling; Michael is feeling Led Zeppelin and Natalia Lafourcade this week and Brad is feeling the video game The Turing Test and the Beastie Boys’ album Hello Nasty. Few artists can say their artwork has changed the cultural landscape. Cey Adams is one of those people by mixing art with hip hop and rap his legacy is evident all around us. To be able to chat with Cey and find out aspects of his art that he has never answered before is very special. I truly believe he and I should embark on a mission to find the lost life-size sardine can from the cover of Hello Nasty. Here's the rundown: Beastie Boys (9:59), Beastie Boys - Cookie Puss (11:11), Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty (15:08), Jay-Z (27:31), Jay-Z – In My Lifetime Vol 2 (29:47), Notorious BIG – Ready To Die (31:44), Public Enemy (35:12), LL Cool J (49:55)
In 1998, The Beastie Boys released their fifth album, "Hello Nasty" and it was unlike any album they had ever released. "Hello Nasty" was released during pretty formative years for both JP and Father Chuck, and as a result, the music videos, the hit singles, and the deep cuts inspired them deeply, not just upon release, but in later years as well. The album is as irreverent, erratic, and as dense as any other Beastie Boys album, but the injection of spiritual, social and political consciousness takes the album to a completely different level. Matt, unfortunately, couldn't make it, but stay to the end for his announcement of next week's album! Joined by Casey G from 'The Bad Tenants', the Bums review the Seattle hip hop scene, Tom Brady's mouth kisses and Beastie Boys' 1998 album "Hello Nasty".
After much discussion, this week we have another "mutual" pick from David and Ryan (mostly Ryan), "Hello Nasty" by the Beastie Boys! While they may never see eye to eye on what is indisputably the best Beasties album, (hint: it's this one) the discourse makes for a fun conversation nonetheless.
Nick and FeeFEE discuss Hello Nasty and the disparity of importance the Beasties have played in their lives. Also discussed is the Thom Yorke shows they went to, plus recommendations of Filmworker doc, Mr. Live, Black Thought and The Funs. @YSIAGIBpodcast

Twenty years later, looking back on the release of the Beastie Boys' Hello Nasty.
It's Bonus Song Thursday! Bill and Brian follow up their conversation with Ed and Alice Magdziak from youdontknowjersey.com about the Beastie Boys debut album by cherry picking a huge hit from the middle of the band's career, "Intergalactic" from 1998's Hello Nasty. The gentlemen discuss why Brian isn't particularly a fan of the song, how the Beastie Boys no longer had to prove themselves, why John Fugelsang's VH1 Top 20 Countdown was better than Total Request Live, the song's cool video, and the difference between kaiju, hentai, and yaoi. Also, we read some listener emails in which we find out what song Hozier's "Take Me to Church" interpolated into the pre-chorus and Brian is once again called out for his Long Island bashing!

Because you can't, you won't and you don't stop.... The Beastie Boys are without a doubt one of my favourite groups of all time, any genre ! When i first came across them in 86/ 87 I immediately fell in love with their music, their style, their rhymes etc etc ( I think it was on a TV Show in the UK called The Tube the first time they aired the "Fight For Your Right" video ) I've been a massive fan ever since. I've been meaning to do this mix for a while and started to put it together last year but when Adam Yauch passed away it didn't feel right, didn't want it to look like I was jumping on the bandwagon. Wanted to get it out in time for what would've been his 49th birthday on the 5th of August but unfortunately time was against me, but nonetheless this is my tribute to MCA and of course the other two Beasties the King Ad-Rock and M I K E to the D you go to see him and pay a fee. It was hard to try and limit myself to the material I'd use but I had to have a cut off at some point to stop myself going insane trying to break down the tracklist. So I went for the era that meant the most to me personally, from 86 to 98 ( Licensed to Ill through Hello Nasty ) . Even then I've still missed some stuff off I would've liked to include, but these are "some" of my favourite B-Boys tunes. So without foither ado, please enjoy 100 minutes of Hip Hop, Funk and Hardcore Punk. (Hey)Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Beastie Boys...
