Send us a textWelcome to Episode 214! Boy, oh boy, the news these days is chocked full of trash, and to add to the difficulties of the daily news, we lost a titan of the silver screen. The circumstances seem almost unbelievable and with each announcement, the more wild the events become. Each week thus far it has seemed new shocking details have emerged and now we await the final determinations. This week, The Boys are reviewing the mysterious deaths of multiple Oscar winner Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy, at their home in Santa Fe. While recounting the details we know, Casey and Mark get to spilling the tea about the lesser known announcements and fact, building a case for what they think brought about the demise of the loving couple... not too mention Betsy's beloved pooch.Kicking things off, The Boys are paying their respects to Dolly with the loss of her husband leading into a read for the Academy Awards 'In Memorium' with a few icons missing from the list on the broadcast. Do you eat when you're feeling emotional? Mark sure does (and don't let Casey fool ya, he can too!) and he's talking with you about it.Trash Talk topics this week include a substitute teacher who took students poor behavior into her own hands, 'transgendered mice' in front of Congress, and an alleged cannibal goes gay... well, almost. It's a light-hearted episode this week, Kids! The Boys are bringing the hilarity from the headlines, discourse from page six, and as always, the faggotry of your GBFFs! So fill your cup with some delicious port vintage and pull up a seat to the table with your gay ass besties. It's time to paint!=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Let The Boys of Painted Trash know your thoughts on this week's topics and episode! Zion Williamson's Breakout Season FIRES UP Gil's Arena as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew react to the Cavs nabbing their 15th straight win as the top team in the NBA and debate if this historic season deserves more respects as Mitchell, Darius Garland and the rest of the Cavs look to unseat the Boston Celtics in the NBA's Eastern Conference. They then react to Zion Williamson balling as of late as the New Orleans Pelicans' superstar is playing the best hoops of his career and proving that with the correct care and training he can finally deliver on they hype he earned as the NBA's next generational prospect. Speaking of generational prospects, Gil & The Crew turn their attention to March Madness where consensus #1 overall pick Cooper Flagg is weighing his options on returning to Duke or heading to the NBA, sparking a debate on NIL's impact on the one and done prospect and if hyped up players will have more control over where they play in the pros. Finally, they break down Tyrese Haliburton & The Indiana Pacers' football style play to take down Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks inciting a hostile conversation on which team is most likely to win a playoff series as we enter the NBA Playoff conversation. It's the post-Oscar episode, a little late but as a movie show we HAVE to talk about it, that moment, of course, when… erm… Hey, Conan. Still prepping for August's reboot of The Naked Gun, we're driving into Washington D.C. of 1991 Bush-era first time around and contemplating David Zucker's pivot to clear Republican sensibilities, mocking his own brother's success with Ghost and what the hell a Scary Movie could be anymore. At least 2 people involved in this film were ignored from the In Memorium of this year's ceremony and only one killed their ex and her partner.
Send us a textKatie and Bridget get birthed out of Demi Moore's back (ala The Substance) as they recap The 97th Academy Awards aka the Oscars! Come hear all about the fashion, the winners, the losers, the drammaaaaaaaa (there was less than previous years!), and of course come hear all about our undying love for Conan O'Brien! Jimmy Kimmel can suck it! This year lots of movies got to take home different Oscars which we loved to see - except when Inside Out 2 didn't win best animated picture - sorry Bridget. A night of majesty led us to ask the real questions, such as: Was the music played for the In Memorium section of the show really scary or was that just us? Did we NEED a James Bond inspired song and dance number (cough cough AMAZON!? cough cough)? And... Were the song writers who won best song for Emilia Pérez drunk when they started singing during their acceptance speech or...? All this more during this month's NOstalgic Happy Hour!
It's that time of year again... time for our Defender Awards! We celebrate the best in movies in 2024 and give out our own awards, Shields, to our picks just like the Oscars. Ours are just more fun. Make another slide for the In-Memorium at the end of the year. Richard Lewis left us. Also, Kate Middleton might be dead. Director Denis Villeneuve‘s big-budget sequel has collected $81.5 milli in its domestic debut and delivered a mighty, necessary jolt for struggling movie theaters. It's the biggest opening weekend of the year and the largest since last October's Taylor Swift concert film “The Eras Tour” ($93 million). Celebrities are just like us but with more attention on them. That can make family challenges... challenging-er. Other stories worth talking about that I didn't get to.

On this episode of Wild Takes, Dev and Zooch discuss what the Wild have looked like since the Trade Deadline and what that means for them going forward. They also share some crazy statistics about how Kirill ranks through his first 200 games to Wild history and NHL history. Spoiler alert: he's good at hockey. Dev and Zooch then discuss, briefly, the injury of Kirill Kaprizov and how it will impact this team going forward, as well as the ongoing Ref show in sports. Then, to end on a positive note, they sing sweet praises for the Wild's goaltending duo and dive into JUST how good they have been lately and why that will be more important than ever with the Wild's upcoming schedule and Kaprizov injury. Unregulated tactical accessories are making guns more lethal - Part I of a two-part series. This Tuesday, Radio GAG will explore the issue of unregulated tactical accessories, in a two-part series, starting with the "auto sear." Although AR-type rifles are often involved in mass shootings, handguns are actually the most used weapon. Handguns and ARs have now become more deadly than ever thanks to the auto sear, which will convert a conventional semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic one for only $20. Radio GAG's guest this week is Alain Stephens, who will explain the auto sear and how this little Lego-like device is challenging law enforcement as the death count rises. Our "In Memorium" will commemorate Stephen “Twitch” Boss, whose recent suicide shocked his many friends and fans. We will also hear from Jay W. Walker and Sonni Moon from the GAG march/rally for the victims of Monterey Park shooting.

There were plenty of crazy moments in Hollywood and the world of Social Media. MrBeast passes PewDiePie, The return of Brenda Fraiser, Heidi Klum dressed as a worm for Halloween, Rihanna had a baby, Julia Fox & Kanye West, Ben Affleck back with J Lo & off the Jamesons, Pete Davidson dating everybody, every school teacher on earth quitting to get on Only Fans, Elon Musk taking over Twitter, The Try Guys cheating scandal, Harry Styles Spitting on Chris Pine, Billie Eilish Deep Fakes, Tom Brady splits from Giselle and half of Hollywood is exposed for Crypto scams. That's just a short recap of some of the Hollywood headlines from this year and none of those made it into our list of the Top 5. For my full recap be sure to stay tuned. We also had a huge number of celebrity deaths which I will cover in a follow-up video titled 2023 In Memorium, few names on there include Bob Saget, Takeoff, of course, The Queen, Aaron Carter & more. That stuff is a little glummer so let's get on with the show and talk about the biggest moments of 2022. Also, be sure to let me know who you think is the biggest star of the year in the comments down below – based on our analytics it's Ice Spice quickly followed by Glorilla. Aright, enough intro. Let's get into this video.

Is this the slasher we needed? Terrifier 2 opened up to theaters which came as a surprise to many of its fans. With the horror community as niche as it is, dividing it even further into slasher fans brings the marketability down further. There's never been a time like this: no less than five Star Trek series on the air at the same time! You would think Trekkies (trekkers?) would be rejoicing. But, not so. While some fans are enjoying these new iterations of Star Trek, other fans are gnashing their teeth. In this episode, the Planet 8 crew, along with our guest Lord Blood-Rah, discuss the state of Star Trek - what it has meant to us, what it is now, and where we hope it is going. For all four of us, our love of Star Trek started with the original series. We grew up watching Kirk, Spock and crew on their adventures. Through them, we felt excitement and wonder, and learned about loyalty, duty, friendship, mercy, and more. Classic Trek offered up morality plays that deeply imprinted on our minds. Our expectations and definitions for everything Star Trek flows from the first series. This has been an issue with every new Trek series that followed. People forget, but even when The Next Generation premiered, fans denounced it as not being "real Star Trek." So it has been with every series since. But what constitutes "real" Star Trek? We share our thoughts about what is essential, what lies at the core of Trek.Throughout we'll weave in thoughts on the current Trek shows -although Strange New Worlds had not aired yet when we recorded this - with pros and cons aplenty. Beyond whether the new shows are truly Star Trek, are they even decent science fiction? Or well-written dramas? We go there!Despite our misgivings, we do love Star Trek and remain hopeful for Strange New Worlds. We all agree that Anson Mount is a very charismatic man! Can he carry the show? Will going back to episodic story-telling be the right move? Time will tell. This time around, instead of our Sensor Sweep, we have an In Memorium segment. Last week we lost legendary comic book artist Neal Adams. Adams was a massive talent, leaving a huge legacy. He may best be remembered for helping to remake Batman along with writer Denny O'Neill. Adams worked for both DC and Marvel and had outstanding runs on Deadman, Superman, The Avengers, and X-Men. Adams also campaigned for creator's rights and helped the creators of Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster, regain rights to their character and get remuneration from DC. He was an important figure in the comics world and will be missed. Also passing recently was artist James Bama, an artist best known to fans for his paperback covers for Doc Savage novels, and for the illustrations on the Aurora monster models boxes. That's all this time. Here we are, at the beginning of the end – or is it the end of the beginning for our little Harry Potter podcast? In this week's episode of The Glittering Bell Jar, we discuss the first four chapters of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: The Seven Potters (ch. 4), The Dursleys Departing (ch. 3), In Memorium (ch. 2), and The Dark Lord Ascending (ch. 1). There's a lot to unpack, from the cultishness of Death Eaters to Dudley's unique way of showing his cousinly love for Harry. We also chat about important Deep Magic (to borrow a phrase from CS Lewis, which we think JK Rowling would approve of) like the charm that protects Harry at Privet Drive and the opposing magics of Occlumency and Legilimency. This episode wraps up our backward reading of Deathly Hallows, and we'll be back next week with a special guest and discussion of the two Deathly Hallows films. You may or may not have seen my post on Facebook about my cousin, Tara Schutz untimely passing. What you probably don't know is that she is the cousin I refer to in several episodes of my podcast. She was so proud of the work she was doing in changing. Today, I explain some of her life challenges and the different person she became by "Doing the Work"! She hated doing the work. In life she usually opted to not do the work to change herself. She was fiercely loyal to her family but not so much to herself. That changed when she started to listen to Toddtalks! She decided to do the work. She's the one that got me into the life coaching side of things. She told me I should be her life coach so I started working with her. And the changes in her were night and day, as darkness is to light! She went from a place of darkness to light and I was blessed to be a part of that. This is a tribute to her and includes how doing the work helped her, and how it can help you to change, grow, love, live, and be happier! If you take anything away from this episode, it is....doing the work, works!Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=AGHBCSQAFVNZ6)

Original Date: February 28, 2011 It’s Oscar Week here in Hollywood and it’s here on the Chillpak Hollywood Hour Oscar post-game show where the games REALLY begin! Dean and Phil have, as always, ten dollars wagered on the outcome of their predicted winners in all twenty-four categories. Last year, Dean finally notched a win after losing to Phil three consecutive years. Will he maintain that momentum this time around? Find out and enjoy Dean and Phil’s insightful, irreverent and sometimes scathing takes on the motion picture industry’s night of nights. Before the festivities can commence, however, Dean and Phil tantalize you with some details about a trip they took to San Leandro, California, for the UFO X-Fest’s Quest 4 Truth Conference at the historic Bal theatre.Tags: Aaron Sorkin, Academy Awards, Alec Baldwin, Alice in Wonderland, animated films, Anne Hathaway, Annette Bening, Bal Theatre, Barney's Version, Billy Crystal, Bob Hope, box office, Christian Bale, Colin Firth, David Fincher, Dean Haglund, Documetnaries, film, filmmaking, Hailee Stanfield, In Memorium, Inception, independent film, Inside Job, James Franco, Javier Bardem, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Brolin, Jude Law, Melissa Leo, movies, Natalie Portman, Oscar pools, Oscars, Phil Leirness, Quest 4 Truth, Robert Downey Jr., San Leandro, Sandra Bullock, short films, The King's Speech, The Lone Gunmen, The Socail Network, The Woflman, The X-Files, Tom Hooper, Toy Story 3, True Grit, UFO X Fest, Winter's Bone
It's the end of an era. Well, a small era. We have finished our Wrong Turn sojourn and are transitioning away from giallo to Hammer horror! But first, Terry gets thirsty over Billy Zane in Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight and Mary Beth talks about the woman-directed found footage film In Memorium. Then we finish Dario Argento's "Animal Trilogy" with Four Flies on Grey Velvet and go to West Virginia one last time with Wrong Turn (2021).
We are discussing In Memorium, Chapter 2 of the Deathly Hallows. We explore what we think of Doge, Rita & J.K. (in the eyes of Rita…). Here are own life & lies of Chapter 2 - right now! Welcome back to the last episode of 2020, a year that has not been what anyone ever expected and a time where it was hard to have new movies to talk about when nothing basically opened in cinemas for most of the year! However it has not stopped us from finding plenty of news to talk about, and this is no different in our most recent episode! And as a bonus in between are plenty of asides and random rambles, including Ryan's plans on how he will make money from his burger idea! It will all make sense when you hear it! After a couple of follow-ups to Episode 21, we talk about Alan Rickman's diaries, rebooting Short Circuit, another Predator sequel, and a Hollywood Toxic Avenger film with Peter Dinklage! The guys discuss what it means when the Space Jam sequel isn't supposedly an actual sequel according to LeBron James before Ryan ponders the world of the Donald Trump cameo when the explanation for why he was in Home Alone 2 is discussed again. One of the guys biggest issues about over expanding your media multiverse before it grows naturally comes up time and time again this episode, first with plans to make several films in the Kingsman franchise and the Russo brothers future for the Extraction film franchise... which Rob expects will become Extractions because it sounds funny. Coming 2 America has been pushed back 4 Amazon, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are taking on Universal Monsters, and we ponder the reasons as to why the 5th Scream film is just called... Scream. "The Stath" as Rob calls him has a new job with Audrey Plaza, Ryan Reynolds is up to his usual tricks, and we talk giant observatories, monoliths, and German wooden penis statues for some strange reason. The still fake-looking shark from Jaws is now hanging up in the soon to be opened Academy Motion Pictures museum in LA, we talk stunt driving in Mission Impossible, Rick Moranis, Elliot Page, Pink Panther, and a possible video game James Bond series. More game news follows with updates on Sonic The Hedgehog 2, HBO's Last Of Us, Metal Gear Solid, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evil.As we recorded the night before the Disney investor's meeting, we missed out on all the news but took some time to throw out some wild theories on what could appear - some we got right, some missed the mark. But we touch on the live action Disney films, as well as Star Wars and Marvel content including some updates already announced or rumored like Black Panther 2, Chris Pratt in the next Thor, the Hawkeye Disney Plus series, the return of Alfred Molina, and others to Spider-man and Deadpool 3. We also cover numerous DC news after including the branding of the TV universe, the extra cast added to James Gunn's Suicide Squad film, and other Justice League related nonsense. We then tackle last month's bombshell HBO Max/Warner Bros announcement, and all the backlash surrounding that by filmmakers and others in the industry. We finish out the episode with the monthly In Memorium section, look at teaser and trailers for Clifford The Big Red Dog, Tom And Jerry, The Godfather Coda, docos The Baby God and Bee Gees: How Can You Mend A Broken Heart, Chaos Walking, and Cobra Kai Season 3, and reviews on Freaky, the Fresh Prince Reunion, and the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special! Please like, subscribe, share, and enjoy! And as always many thanks to Martin (Rammy) for his wonderful work on our graphics, www.rammy.at

In this seasonal episode, the Slightly Foxed team are guided through a snowstorm of winter writing over twelve centuries by the literary critic and author of Weatherland, Alexandra Harris. The tour takes us from Anglo-Saxon mead halls and monsters to Renaissance bodily humours, then on through cool, translucent Enlightenment weather into the dark cloud of the nineteenth century and beyond. We visit frost-fair carnivals on the frozen Thames with Virginia Woolf’s Orlando, brave the Brontës’ wild moorland, stay steamed up indoors with Jane Austen, sink into Dickens’s pea-soupers and see in the ‘year’s midnight’ with John Donne as we listen to a winter’s tale through literature. As was the practice of MGM shorts at the time, only Rudolf Ising is credited. The short, Puss Gets the Boot, featured a cat named Jasper and an unnamed mouse, named Jinx in pre-production, and an African American housemaid named Mammy Two Shoes. Leonard Maltin described it as "very new and special [...] that was to change the course of MGM cartoon production" and established the successful Tom and Jerry formula of comical cat and mouse chases with slapstick gags. Matters changed, however, when Texas businesswoman Bessa Short sent a letter to MGM asking whether more cat and mouse shorts would be produced, which helped convince management to commission a series. A studio contest held to rename both characters was won by animator John Carr, who suggested Tom the cat and Jerry the mouse after the Christmas time drink. Carr was awarded a first-place prize of $50.10 February 1957 – Attack Of The Crab Monsters clawed its way to theatres. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_of_the_Crab_MonstersOn this day in 1957, Attack Of The Crab Monsters made audiences afraid to go back into the water. The feature starred Richard Garland and Pamela Duncan, and here's the plot summary: "Scientists become trapped on a shrinking island with intelligent, murderous giant crabs.” Attack of the Crab Monsters was Corman's most profitable production up to that time, which he attributed to the "wildness of the title," the construction of the storyline, the structuring of every scene for horror and suspense, and editing for pace. Corman has stated that the success of the film convinced him that horror and humor was an effective combination.10 February 1972 – Ziggy Stardust makes his earthly debut - https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/ziggy-stardust-makes-his-earthly-debutThe concert at London’s Toby Jug pub a relatively minor rocker named David Bowie became the spaceman Ziggy Stardust. “I’m going to be huge,” is what David Bowie told Melody Maker less than three weeks earlier and still six months prior to the release of the albumThe Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. “And it’s quite frightening in a way, because I know that when I reach my peak and it’s time for me to be brought down it will be with a bump.” That last bit may have been a case of Bowie confusing his Ziggy persona with real life, but that was what put the act over in the first place. Any rock musician can put on a costume, but how many could have inhabited the identity of an androgynous Martian rock star come to Earth in its dying days so convincingly, so effortlessly.10 February 1996 – World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov loses game to computer. - https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/kasparov-loses-chess-game-to-computerAfter three hours, world chess champion Garry Kasparov loses the first game of a six-game match against Deep Blue, an IBM computer capable of evaluating 200 million moves per second. Man was ultimately victorious over machine, however, as Kasparov bested Deep Blue in the match with three wins and two ties and took home the $400,000 prize. An estimated 6 million people worldwide followed the action on the Internet. The February 1996 contest was significant in that it represented the first time a human and a computer had duked it out in a regulation, six-game match, in which each player had two hours to make 40 moves, two hours to finish the next 20 moves and then another 60 minutes to wrap up the game.IntroArtist – Goblins from MarsSong Title – Super Mario - Overworld Theme (GFM Trap Remix)Song Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNMe6kF0j0&index=4&list=PLHmTsVREU3Ar1AJWkimkl6Pux3R5PB-QJFollow us onFacebook- Page - https://www.facebook.com/NerdsAmalgamated/- Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/440485136816406/Twitter - https://twitter.com/NAmalgamatedSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6Nux69rftdBeeEXwD8GXrSiTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/top-shelf-nerds/id1347661094RSS - http://www.thatsnotcanonproductions.com/topshelfnerdspodcast?format=rssInstagram - https://www.instagram.com/nerds_amalgamated/General EnquiriesEmail - Nerds.Amalgamated@gmail.comRate & Review us on Podchaser - https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/nerds-amalgamated-623195

We start the show with a Horrible Movie Moment from professional wrestler and podcaster, Colt Cabana, former WWE Wrestler and host of the groundbreaking and popular podcast “The Art of Wrestling”. He died a month before the release of Air Bud: Golden Receiver. Here's to the first Rated G movie we've done on the show. Only on HMP!
Willow has "Two to Go" in taking her Revenge on the Nerds (see what I did there?). The Scoobies break the Duo out of jail and go on the run. After Willow kills Rack to drain his power, she confronts Buffy in the Magic Box. We discuss the dillemna of stopping Willow without harming her, and the return of our favorite librarian. In the season finale "Grave", Giles has borrowed magics from a coven to bind Willow. But she escapes and drains his power. The dose of white magic overwhelms her, setting her on a path to end the world's misery by just ending the whole world. When no superhuman can overpower her, Xander saves the world with words. We discuss the nonviolent ending, and Willow's switch in motivation. PLUS! Your Buffy Saturday Morning Cartoons! And the Season 6 Yearbook Awards and In Memorium!

This episode is a little different from most. We will be hearing from a tireless advocate and NYS tourism industry promoter, Mike Linehan. This interview was recorded in October 2016. Mike was gracious in volunteering to be one of Destination on the Left’s first interviews. He was very patient with me and my audio team as we were learning the ropes of podcast production. Mike and I had a fantastic conversation and he shared many insights from his 30 years in the tourism industry. The audio from our interview however didn’t record properly and most of the interview was unusable. Mike was very kind when I explained what had happened and offered to reschedule so that we could get a good audio file. Unfortunately, our schedules did not align and Mike passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2017. Mike’s vision, his tenacity, his insights, his humor are part of the foundation of tourism in New York State. So, I went back to that bad recording and found 20 minutes of our conversation that I want to share with our listeners. We can all continue to learn and benefit from Mike Linehan. Mike Linehan served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Yates County Chamber of Commerce for 24 years. Born in Hammondsport, NY, Mike settled in Penn Yan, NY after spending several years in the state of Colorado. Mike’s formal training included courses of study at St. John Fisher College, Corning Community College, Finger Lakes Community College and the Institutes for Organization Management at the University of Oklahoma, where he was a graduating member of the Class of 1999. Mike was a member of: the Keuka College Community Associates Board serving as Chair since 2000; NYS Tourism Industry Association where he served as past president; Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks; Loyal Order of Moose; Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council where he served as Chair; Finger Lakes Wine Country Tourism Marketing Association where he served as Chair and the Chamber Alliance of New York State. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed cooking, gardening, and boating on the Finger Lakes. He lived in Penn Yan with his wife, Molly, daughters Meaghan and Morgen, and dogs Moses and Maggie. What you’ll learn about in this episode: The challenge that arose after Penn Yan was flooded in May 2014 and how they overcame the public misperception that Penn Yan was closed after the media focused on the damage of the flood Penn Yan’s efforts to redevelop the waterfront that Mike was beginning to focus on in October when we conducted this interview Why dissenting opinions are so important in achieving the best final product Examples of working within regulations and working to get onerous regulations lifted The importance of visiting your elected officials when they’re home in your district Tourism websites: www.yatesny.com fingerlakestravelny.com www.fingerlakeswinecountry.com In Memorium: www.gofundme.com/mike-linehan-family-fund
Charlotte Mason included a subject uncommon to most modern teachers: recitation. This podcast episode explains why she did, what it is, and how it differs from memorization. This is an essential in the feast and a great gift to the students and the people around them. Listen Now: If you are seeing this message, please make sure you are using the most current version of your web browser: Internet Explorer 9, Firefox, Chrome "Children know how to read, but they cannot read." (Burrell, "Recitation") "Without them the best pieces of English writing lose half their value; the best paper read before a cultivated audience misses its aim; the best lecture is only half a lecture, and the best sermon is an opiate. With them all is changed; the light from the writer's soul is handed down from one generation to another. For good authors cannot die; the human voice is for-ever conferring immortality upon them. So magical is the power of a good reader that he can convey to an audience shades of meaning in his author which he himself does not suspect." (Burrell) "Recitation and committing to memory are not necessarily the same thing..." (Vol. 1, p. 224) "And if such appreciation can be born when a good reader and a good audience meet, is it not worse than madness for us to look on English literature as mere work for the study, mere dictionary stuff? It was meant to be interpreted by the voice of life; there is only half the passion in the printed page. If there were more good reading round English firesides, do you suppose that the masterpieces of English thought would be studied, as they often are, merely with an eye to the examiners' certificate?" (Burrell) "The child should speak beautiful thoughts so beautifully, with such delicate rendering of each nuance of meaning, that he becomes to the listener the interpreter of the author's thought." (Vol. 1, p. 223) "Knowledge is information touched with emotion: feeling must be stirred, imagination must picture, reason must consider, nay, conscience must pronounce on the information we offer before it becomes mind-stuff." (In Memorium, p. 4) "At this stage, his reading lessons must advance so slowly that he may just as well learn his reading exercises, both prose and poetry, as recitation lessons." (Vol. 1, pp. 204-205) "Perfect enunciation and precision are insisted on, and when he comes to arrange the whole of the little rhyme in his loose words and read it off (most delightful of all the lessons) his reading must be a perfect and finished recitation." (Vol. 1, p. 222) "The teacher reads with the intention that the children shall know, and therefore, with distinctness, force, and careful enunciation; it is a mere matter of sympathy, though of course it is the author and not himself, whom the teacher is careful to produce." (Vol. 6, p. 244) "The gains of such a method of learning are, that the edge of the child's enjoyment is not taken off by weariful verse by verse repetitions, and, also, that the habit of making mental images is unconsciously formed." (Vol. 1, p. 225) "There is hardly any 'subject' so educative and so elevating as that which Mr. Burrell has happily described as 'The Children's Art.'" (Vol. 1, p. 223) If you would like to study along with us, here are some passages from The Home Education Series and other Parent's Review articles that would be helpful for this episode's topic. A visual artist for her entire life, Amanda Gusack studied film and writing at Hampshire College. During the summers, she worked as a colorist for acclaimed independent animators Emily and Faith Hubley. Following the production of her psychological horror feature In Memorium, which she wrote to direct entirely within her house, she wrote and directed The Betrayed; a crime-thriller for MGM. She later optioned her supernatural-thriller screenplay to Screen Gems. In Memorium was an official selection at Shriekfest 2006 In addition to her newest love of digital painting, she continues to write films in the horror, thriller, action and sci-fi genres.
If Colony had a Talking Dead-style "In Memorium" section of the show, this episode would have had a long one. A major character, a minor one, the minor one's sons, and then red-hat collateral damage. Let's not forget moon-base plague-man! The terrorist cell Will has been after all season, also known as the Country Quayle Jamboree featuring Katie, is swept into the pages of history with a little help from their leader turning rat (and a little more help from Will's good aim). Things play out in a way that will let Katie skate back into her normal, non-insurrectionist life and all she has to do is take the opportunity Will has created. Can she? Will she? Her unexplained draw to Broussard is likely a time-bomb within her and when he calls, she will come a' runnin'. Maybe in the meantime, she and Will can re-forge their own bond, focus on getting Charlie back, and at least make it hard decision for her when Broussard comes knocking. Overall, great episode, full of surprises; top 3 of the season. In other news, we are taking part of this week's Blab From the Bloc! Sign up and be there as we get to help interview Peter Jacobson (Proxy Alan Snyder himself)! Footnote: If you notice a reference to "hot-talk" or "talking hot", you should take this to mean that the person is speaking in an undeservedly braggadocios manner. Direct iTunes link.
In Memorium of Dr. Frances Cress Welsiing: March 18, 1935 - January 2, 2016A Million-Midnight Salute to a black woman of towering intellect, dedication, intent, and stamina. The uploading of this archived broadcast (from May 16, 2010) was inspired by a Facebook post by Michael Moore acknowledging that he had received in the mail the book under discussion in this broadcast. Mr. Moore said that, in her final lecture, Dr. Welsing recommended that every black person read it.. Mr. Wickett attended many of Dr. Welsing's lectures at the monthly Welsing Institute held at Howard University and filmed a few of them. The host considers both Mr. Wickett and Dr. Welsing to have made major contributions toward the eventual solving of The Problem. Additionally, a caller, "Mark," inspired an evolution in Cree's framing of the role of genetics and/ or other forms of DNA in the practice of racism (white supremacy/anti-blackness).
