This week, Kenya welcomes actor, writer, and podcast host Andrew Benjamin on the show.  Andrew shares how he stumbled into jiu-jitsu through a health and weight loss journey, opening up a new passion in his life for Japanese MMA. He reflects on his early start in acting, highlighting the serendipitous nature of how he entered the acting world despite the challenges of being a college grad. He and Kenya also chat about the writer's strike and the domino effect it has upon the whole industry, along with how to stay engaged and connected with your soul's purpose during the downtime. Andrew also shares his pointed take on AI's impact on the entertainment industry.   Also Talked About:   While working as a background actor, Andrew stays productive, using his time in holding to write for other creative endeavors. He's not quite a “grumpy veteran” yet, but is more discerning about who he talks to during his free time.  Andrew's first movie was “21”, a film about MIT students that took Vegas casinos for millions. He got called back to be a stand in, and has been working consistently ever since.  The domino impact of the Writer's Strike and how it affects the industry, including acting, casting, and even vendors. If the rules for the strike aren't clear, you aren't alone. This is a confusing time but it's important that we do something now rather than waiting years down the road.  Andrew candidly talks about how the strike has personally affected him and shares some anecdotal insights into the rules of engagement in Hollywood about continuing to write/produce while on strike.  Everyone is going through their own challenges, so be kind and try to have grace as you go about your day.  It's not all red carpet moments in acting, and Andrew reminds actors to recognize the professionalism and dedication required in the field.   Say Hi To Us:  Needed On Set | FB | IG | TikTok  Source & Cast Kenya: IG    Guest: Andrew: IG | We are Risin Podcast | MMA Sucka

And that's because they provided the sport with some legendary fights, fighters and moment. It was an absolute spectacle for the time it was around. But then in 2006, the promotion was bought by the UFC. And although the UFC wanted Pride to continue in Japan, they ended up shutting it down. By late 2007, the promotion was no more. The moment a quirky, professional wrestler bested the most famous grappling dynasty in all of fight sports and how that professional wrestling training helped him do it and could still even be used today in your own training practice.  Jake has also authored the best selling book 'Say, Uncle!: Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling and the Roots of Ultimate Fighting, Pro-Wrestling, & Modern Grappling' and ghostwrote Billy Robinson's memoir titled 'Physical Chess: My Life in Catch-As-Catch-Can Wrestling" and was also the assistant coach to Billy Robinson, 2007 - 2014 and now has two instructions out on BJJ Fanatics covering catch wrestling submissions and takedowns.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman spoke with MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Wallid Ismail, who is the founder of the Brazilian MMA promotion Jungle Fight Championship. Jungle Fight 82 takes place Saturday, October 24, 2015, in Clube Sírio in São Paulo, Brazil. The main event is Ciro "Bad Boy" Rodrigues vs. Eric "Parrudo" Barbosa. Jungle Fight shows are televised on the Band broadcast network in Brazil and ESPN Deportes in the U.S. Beyond Brazil, Jungle Fight is gaining more international recognition. Wallid has just returned from Japan, where he was part of the inaugural press conference held October 8 introducing the newest Japanese MMA promotion, the Rizin Fighting Federation. This new organization was founded by former executives of the Pride Fighting Championships, which from the late 1990s to the mid-2000s had been the largest and most important MMA promotion in the world. Unlike other organizations, Rizin will work with many other companies around the world, without requiring fighters to sign exclusive contracts with them and leave their promotions. Jungle Fight is one of those companies. We spoke with Wallid Ismail by Skype this past Tuesday. Speaking of Rizin and its head, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, he said, "I think it's going to be great for the sport. It's going to be great for Japan, because no matter what, to doing good in Japan needed to be a Japanese. Because he understands the market, he understands everything about the TV deals, the sponsorship deals in Japan, is very different [from] the United States." Unlike many others, however, he does not see Rizin as competing with UFC. "UFC do a great job all over the world. And I think Rizin's coming to help the sport," he said. Rizin is "going to be another organization can help the sport, especially in Asia and Japan." He thus described UFC as sort of a "World Cup" of MMA, while Rizin will be a "World Cup of Clubs." And he said he and Jungle Fight plan to continue working with UFC as well as now also working with Rizin. Much of the fight card for Rizin's debut show, the Rizin Fighting World Grand-Prix 2015, a three-day extravaganza scheduled for the week of New Year's Eve from December 29 to December 31, remains to be finalized. But he plans to have fighting on that show the Jungle Fight bantamweight champion, Maike Linhares, as well as also possibly a heavyweight. We also discussed how Jungle Fight's ratings dramatically increased when its shows moved to broadcast TV on the Band network in Brazil from cable, plans for an English-language telecast aimed at the U.S., how many fights on Jungle Fight's cards end in knockouts or submissions and have lots of action, and much, much more. Stephen Quadros will #FreeNickDiaz. Quadros, a.k.a. "The Fight Professor," joined Jason Kelly (@JayKellyMMA) and Joe Rizzo (@RearNakedChoke) on Rear Naked Choke Radio (@RNCRadio) and his comments about Diaz might just provide the impetus to get the fighter â??free.â?? Quadros (@StephenQuadros) undressed the Nevada Athletic Commission with harsh words about their five-year ban on Diaz, called for a reversal and explained why the rule is, in his opinion, archaic. Quadros has been around combat sports for decades and just came off calling the GLORY kickboxing portion of the Bellator Dynamite 1 card in San Jose, Calif. As part of the show, Fedor Emilianenko was presented to the audience with news of his return to MMA, on New Yearâ??s Eve in Japan. Quadros covered all the angles on Fedor with Kelly and Rizzo. He is uniquely qualified to discuss the Russian, with years of experience on the Japanese martial arts circuit to compare and examine. Quadros held various media positions covering combat sports, from editing Black Belt magazine, to holding down the commentary duties for Pride FC, to reporting live on site for Strikeforce, to his current role as an analyst for GLORY. Bellator's event on Sept. 19 was a co-promoted show with GLORY, which featured MMA and kickboxing, along with a series of themes and personalities that were prominent in Pride FC and DYNAMITE era of Japanese MMA. Quadros was one of the few perfect people to analyze and constructively critique efforts put forth by Bellator. Follow the show on twitter: @RNCRadio.
