What does it take to create (real) social change and a deeper sense of 'belonging' in your work? We look to the change makers and the trailblazers out in the world (just like you and me!) to show us how it's done. My all-star special guest today is Jess Weiner and she is simplifying how to create social change & ‘belonging' in your work. She's been working with brands (big and small - like Barbie with Mattel) over the last 20 years to better represent people in their media, marketing, and advertising. One thing to keep in mind… She's one person, just like you and me. Just one person who's committed to making the world a better place through her work. And with the assistance of her lean and mighty team, they are helping global brands, businesses, and organizations to have better conversations with their consumers, be more aware of current cultural trends, and ultimately, create powerful social change that shifts our culture in a positive way. So if you work with brands currently, no matter if they are big or small, my hope is that today's conversation inspires you. Go deeper, ask the hard questions. Listen to not only what's being said inside the boardroom, but also on the outside by their consumers. And begin to connect the dots on how cultivating a deeper sense of 'belonging' through your work could also spark greater social change in small (and BIG!) ways in the year ahead. Here's how. My all-star special guest today is Jess Weiner and she's simplifying how she created social change with Barbie. In this episode, you will learn: How to ensure that everyone not only has a seat at the table, but also have a voice that is being heard A few simple questions you could ask your clients that would begin to create social change through their work, as inspired by Jess' work with Mattel's Barbie and Dove Why it's important to “leverage your privilege to amplify other's voices” How to make this an ongoing, impactful shift, rather than a flashy, “one-and-done” mentality that our clients tend to opt for How to cultivate ‘belonging' in your own team, starting with yourself as the business owner Why the current “hustle & grind” culture that is being preached to entrepreneurs these days is a trap and how to avoid the “compare & despair” rat race When I watched Jess' TEDx talk called “The Confidence Myth,” I knew I wanted to chat with her on the podcast. She's a wealth of knowledge, a good egg, and an all-around inspirational entrepreneur out in the world, #doingthething. Enjoy! Q: Are you ready to create social change? If yes, this one is for you. It's time to #DoTheThing! Show notes available with all links mentioned here:https://thesimplifiers.com/podcast/jess-weiner-how-I-created-social-change-with-Barbie-all-star

Happy New Year my friends… we made it! I begin today's show with some observations on an important topic: where we give our power away. Because we do, and often without even realizing it. I read my blog essay “Are You Ignoring Your Natural Power as a Woman?” because yes, women are powerful. And we need every ounce of that power to navigate these tough times. The link is posted below if you'd like to read it. My guest in this show was Jess Weiner whose work around Dominant Stories is particularly interesting. We chatted about the voices in our heads—and how to manage them to serve you better. We also covered recurring themes. So see if these ring a bell: worthiness, success and trust in relationships. Among other things we talked about What a ‘Dominant Story' actually is What is you can't hear yours How these stories begin and why we keep them How as her own Dominant Story changed? What are some popular Dominant Stories among busy women? Jess's 3 step technique for re-grounding yours I hope you get lots out of our chat… I know I did! Hi, Strawberry Letter fans! We're excited for the launch of the Dominant Stories podcast hosted by culture expert Jess Weiner. It's a brand new show from Shondaland and iHeartRadio and we think you'll enjoy it too. Don't just take our word for it, though. Check out the trailer and decide for yourself! About the podcast: Dominant Stories is a conversation series that reclaims and rewrites the stories we've been told about our bodies, our beauty, our creativity, and our identities. For example, does your inner monologue sound like: “I'm not good enough, pretty enough, or thin enough”? How about: “I can't do that” or “I'm not worthy”? These are what Cultural Expert and host Jess Weiner calls our Dominant Stories - the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves (whether they are true or not). This show has stemmed from Jess' personal and professional mission to help people challenge the external (and internal) voices that are holding them back from living the life they desire and deserve. Through witty, curious, and hopeful conversations with celebrated guests, we'll unpack, challenge, and change these Dominant Stories. Jess Weiner has over 20 years of experience creating impactful discussions and shifting perceptions around body image, representation, beauty, mental wellness, and self-confidence. She's helped Fortune 500 companies become more inclusive and culturally fluent, including as a partner behind Dove's “Real Beauty” campaign, and helping to evolve Barbie by adding more body shapes, skin tones, and hair types. Dominant Stories has stemmed from Jess' personal and professional mission to help people challenge the external (and internal) voices that are holding them back from living the life they desire and deserve (think: “I'm not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough,” etcetera). Throughout the series, Jess and her esteemed guests discuss how the media, culture, and the people in our lives all help to create these stories, and how they're learning to rewrite them. You'll hear from people shaping our culture like Author Lori Gottlieb, Actor Debby Ryan, Activist Azure Antoinette, and Singer/Songwriter Sara Bareilles (featured in this trailer) about the stories that shape them! Along the way, you'll also get some practical, tactical advice for how you can challenge and change your Dominant Stories. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com

IG: @tomboyofficialig Many of our views of gender have been shaped by Western civilization view points which are very rigid, requiring everyone to fit into neat boxes and categories. But gender, as with most identifying aspects of a human's self, gender is a spectrum. Some may fit into the boxes neatly while others of us deal with more fluid aspects of gender with how we identify, present and express ourselves. Many cultures in past history and even current times have had a different view of gender in society without the same rules in their societies as in Western societies. Can you even imagine how life would be living in an area and cultural surrounding where you could freely participate in hobbies, interests, shop for clothing, wear what you want and behave and present as you want without restrictions of gender norms? Ultimately our societies tell us how we are supposed to fit in when ultimately every individual has so many diverse aspects to their authentic self that some of us cannot fit into the neat boxes. AND THAT IS OKAY! We overlap into other areas. We think and feel differently. Jess Weiner posted a great positive and uplifting piece about viewing the gender spectrum outside the binary as a transcended connection to gender. Jess Weiner isn't just any expert, she's a cultural expert. Throughout her 15 years in the business of consumer relations, Jess realized that having a strategic marketing and consumer engagement is quite different from actually engaging with the consumer and understanding their needs. To be successful in today's business world, you need more than just a big name, you need to stand for something - and mean it! This episode focuses on the need for change within the business world's reactive plans in times of crisis and the corporate responsibility of businesses to engage in ongoing socio-economic conversations. #wherebrainsmeetbeauty@wherebrainsmeetbeautypodcastwherebrainsmeetbeauty.com

Q: have you been faced with death recently, either in your immediate circle or in your community? As many of us are realizing how fragile life really is, we're starting to reimagine things in new ways. Life, death, rebirth and start once again. It's an age old concept but one to evaluate with new eyes, especially now. My special guest today is Jess Weiner and she's simplifying how to reimagine your life by understanding death. Whether you or someone you know is grappling with a positive COVID-19 test result or you've simply got aging parents and you wish the clock would slow way, way down… death is inevitable for all of us, eventually. How we interpret it and face life now is a whole other matter, completely. Here's how to live life to the fullest from this day forward. My special guest today is Jess Weiner and she's simplifying how to reimagine your life by understanding death. We tackle all aspects of it, including: What led her to this work and inspired her to study death and dying, as a whole With the many profound conversations on death that she's had so far for her new podcast, “We're All Going to Die, Anyway,” she shares why facing loss (really) does help people to live better What the first step is to reimagining your own life, especially now during a pandemic There is trauma and grief that needs to be processed from experiencing COVID-19… how she is handling it and how to preserve and protect the business you've built …and ultimately, how to minimize the burnout that comes from the grief and recovery process of BIG change So, the question is simple. Are you afraid of dying? What about really living? If you've found yourself reevaluating your core values and what's most important in your life during these last few (insane) months, I hope my conversation with Jess inspires you. Somewhere early in my life, I got the message that acknowledging my pain was not okay. Being vulnerable opened me up for attack. It was dangerous. Messages like “never let them see your sweat” often got mixed up with “no pain, no gain.” So there's a mixture of: don't show your pain getting the best of you yet show yourself conquering it all. And it's not working. Just look at the stats of those suffering from clinical depression, clinical anxiety, substance use and abuse, suicide attempts and completion, marital and relational distress, and the effects of trauma and post-traumatic stress. Hiding our pain—avoiding it, even demonizing it—is taking us out because it's not sustainable. But when you acknowledge your pain as an inspiration instead of an identity, this is where the gold lies that fuels your meaning and purpose. On today's episode, I'm excited to talk with cultural expert, speaker, educator, and consultant, Jess Weiner. Jess continues to fight against being defined by her struggles, choosing instead to be inspired by them–even when the burdens of recurring struggles take her out. She has identified her blind spots, collected the data, and is now continuing to create and iterate–crediting her original pain story as part of her foundational inspiration. Jess is the CEO of Talk to Jess, where she advises Fortune 500 companies to help them better reflect people in their media, marketing, advertising, and workforce. She is also an adjunct professor at USC in the Annenberg School of Journalism, an acclaimed author, and was recently named by Fast Company as one of the most creative people in Business in the areas of Diversity and Inclusion. Listen to the full episode to hear: How Jess continues to heal, grow, and respond to her pain in ways that inspire change in her personal life and her body of work Why Jess' recovery awakened her activism and led her to creative outreach avenues, including theatre How pain leads us down the path of self-discovery and unleashes some of our best work into the world Learn more about Jess: Jessweiner.com Instagram: @imjessweiner Twitter: @JessWeiner Facebook: @Jess Weiner LinkedIn: @Jess Weiner Learn more about Rebecca: Sign up for the Weekly Rumble Email rebeccaching.com Work With Rebecca
What makes a good life? Is it money? Fans or followers? Health? Success? Having a family? Creating a spiritual practice? Hosted by cultural expert, speaker, and consultant Jess Weiner, “We’re All Going To Die, Anyway,” is a podcast and video series dedicated to embracing the joy and urgency of living a good life. Jess, along with her inspiring guests, will joyously delve into conversations exploring what it means to live urgently and asking: “What is the life you’ve always wanted to create that you’ve avoided creating?" We are being called right now to reconsider what is essential and necessary in our lives. The world as we know it is changing, and so can we.
In a world that feels a bit broken at times and totally in a rush, what is the best way to be a kind person (more often than not)? Great question. If you've ever read the book, “A Course in Miracles” written by Helen Schucman, you know that kindness is key to live a life full of Love and not one dictated by Fear. But well, sometimes it's easier said than done, right? Earlier this week, I spoke with Jess Weiner all about how to create social change & a sense of ‘belonging' in your work and that reminded me of how critically important kindness is in all of this. Kindness builds bridges and forges stronger relationships built on trust and integrity. How else was Jess able to help shift global brands like Mattel's Barbie to see that little girls (and their moms) wanted toys that better reflect who they are and what they want to be when they grow up? Also, kindness requires patience and really good listening skills, as well… asking the open ended questions that get people talking, thinking, and creating a new reality for themselves and the world around us. Social change doesn't happen overnight. Trust and safety (to change) is created through a thousand little moments where your kindness helps others see it's safe to break down their walls, brick by brick… and step into the Light. Therefore, how do we cultivate more kindness in our lives? I think it starts inside us, individually. Here are 3 simple things to consider in order to be a kind person (more often than not) in life: • be the ripple • don't take anything personally • look for the “white trucks” You can do this, I believe in you. It's time to SIMPLIFY. Show notes available with all links mentioned here: https://thesimplifiers.com/podcast/how-to-be-a-kind-person
What does it take to create (real) social change and a deeper sense of 'belonging' in your work? We look to the change makers and the trailblazers out in the world (just like you and me!) to show us how it's done. My special guest today is Jess Weiner and she is simplifying how to create social change & ‘belonging' in your work. She's been working with brands (big and small) over the last 20 years to better represent people in their media, marketing, and advertising. Jess Weiner simplifies how to create social change & ‘belonging' in your work. In this episode, you will learn: How to ensure that everyone not only has a seat at the table, but also have a voice that is being heard A few simple questions you could ask your clients that would begin to create social change through their work, as inspired by Jess' work with Mattel's Barbie and Dove Why it's important to “leverage your privilege to amplify other's voices” How to make this an ongoing, impactful shift, rather than a flashy, “one-and-done” mentality that our clients tend to opt for How to cultivate ‘belonging' in your own team, starting with yourself as the business owner Why the current “hustle & grind” culture that is being preached to entrepreneurs these days is a trap and how to avoid the “compare & despair” rat race Episode sponsored by...
