Following the successful encirclement of Srirangapatna, fighting gives way to intense, high-stakes diplomacy in a negotiation tent pitched near the Eedgah. In this episode, Ramjee Chandran details the rigorous process behind the Treaty of Seringapatam in March 1792, where Lord Cornwallis, the Maratha Confederacy, and the Nizam of Hyderabad met with Tipu Sultan's envoys to dismantle the formidable power of Mysore. Discover how the harsh loss of coastal gateways like Malabar, massive monetary indemnities, and unique cultural clashes during drafting permanently crippled Tipu's empire—leaving it landlocked and reduced by half. Key Details from the Script: The Preliminary Articles and Hostage Clause: Just a day after Tipu Sultan's final failed breakout attempt, the preliminary peace terms were sealed on the night of February 23, 1792. The preliminary agreement stipulated that Mysore surrender vast territories, pay a massive financial indemnity, and hand over two of Tipu's young sons as security hostages until the payment was settled. The Triple Alliance at the Table: While popular history frames the conflict primarily as British versus Tipu Sultan, the Maratha Peshwa and the Nizam of Hyderabad were co-signatories who played an essential role in Tipu's defeat. The Marathas fought to secure the fertile Doab territory in northern Mysore, while Nizam Ali Khan (Asaf Jah II) aimed to neutralize the persistent southern threat on his borders and collect his share of land. The High Price of Defeat: Formally negotiated by Sir John Kennaway for the British alongside Tipu's chief vakeels (Ali Reza Khan and Ghoolam Ali), the treaty stripped Mysore of approximately half its territory. The British claimed Calicut, Coorg, Baramahal, Dindigul, and Salem; Hyderabad took Cuddapah and part of the Doab; and the Marathas annexed the districts along their southern frontier. Additionally, Tipu was forced to pay 3 crore rupees in coin and bullion, plus 30 lakh rupees in "durbar expenses". The Fatal Loss of Malabar: The surrender of Calicut was the single most crippling blow to the Mysore State. As Mysore's primary gateway to the Arabian Sea, losing the Malabar coast permanently cut Tipu off from foreign trade in pepper and cardamom, direct arms imports, and maritime contact with the French. The kingdom was rendered landlocked, destroying the economic engine that funded its military. Heated Disputes and Human Diplomacy: The negotiations saw intense legal sparring—the British successfully insisted on protecting the Rajah of Coorg despite Mysore's objections, while Tipu's envoys successfully negotiated to retain Gooty. Despite the grim circumstances, a remarkably respectful, courtly relationship developed between Kennaway and Ali Reza Khan, who softened their harsh diplomatic demands with genuine personal regret. Cultural Clashes in Contract Language: A stark cultural divergence arose over standard legal phrasing. The British inserted the common legal term "successors, heirs and assigns," which the Marathas rejected as feeling finite. Instead, drawing on traditional Deccan inscription language, the Marathas insisted the agreement should hold "as long as the sun, moon, and stars endure". Permanent Dismantling: Finalized between March 17 and 18, 1792, the treaty irrevocably altered the geopolitical landscape. None of the surrendered territories were ever recovered by Mysore, ensuring that despite Tipu's subsequent rebuilding efforts, his empire would never again operate as an invincible, equal sovereign power in India. I did a Google search on the cost of Herd's Temple which is the Temple Jesus and the disciples, even Paul and his coworkers, are familiar with, and money wise, the estimation was over $300 billion. Yes, that is Billion with a “B”! It all came tumbling down when the Romans destroyed it in AD70! It's literally laying around the foundation of the Temple in a pile of rubble! Jesus said, “Destroy this Temple and I will rebuild it in three days,” talking about himself. How valuable is Jesus? He is priceless! You can't put a value on God coming down to earth and living as a man, laying down his life voluntarily to become the sacrifice that washes away sin! And not only that, he chooses to live inside his people through the Holy Spirit! So why would we choose to carry that priceless person with us into sin? That is Paul's message to the church at Corinth. Quit the sin people and focus on serving God to the best of your ability!

Exploring the Latest in Retro Gaming: What You Need to Know Meta Description: Dive into the fascinating world of retro gaming as we explore the latest releases, must-have collectibles, and why nostalgia matters for gamers today. Welcome to Podcast for Sci-Fi, where all things sci-fi come to life. In this episode, we delve into the exciting realm of retro gaming, discussing the latest releases and collectibles. If you’ve ever wondered about the resurgence of retro consoles and why they captivate gamers, this post will break it down for you, including insights on recent releases and what to look for in your next purchase. What's New in Retro Gaming? Retro gaming has seen a massive resurgence in recent years, with new systems and re-releases capturing the hearts of both old-school gamers and a new generation. Companies like Retro Games Limited have introduced mini versions of classic consoles, allowing you to relive your childhood without needing to track down original hardware. The Commodore and Amiga Minis One of the most talked-about releases is the Commodore 64 Mini and the A500 Mini. While they may lack working keyboards, they do allow players to enjoy classic games. The A500 Mini, in particular, has generated buzz for its compact size and nostalgic value. Pricing and Availability With prices ranging around $189 for the Amiga 1200, many gamers are eager to get their hands on these systems that promise to deliver classic gaming experiences. They often come with built-in classic games, making them a great way to dive back into gaming history. The Neo Geo: A Blast from the Past Another exciting piece of news is the upcoming release of the Neo Geo console. Known for its high price point during its original run, it’s now available for pre-order at $249. This console aims to deliver the authentic experience of the original system, with classic games available on cartridges. The High Price of Nostalgia While the Neo Geo is a nostalgic gem, the pricing of its games remains a debated topic. At around $89.99 for individual cartridges, many wonder if this pricing is justified in today's market, especially when alternatives exist on mobile platforms for a fraction of the price. Why Nostalgia Matters in Gaming The revival of retro gaming isn't just about the consoles; it's about the memories and experiences they evoke. For many, these games represent simpler times, and the thrill of re-experiencing those moments draws players back to the original joy of gaming. The Emotional Connection Nostalgia plays a significant role in the gaming community, connecting people through shared experiences. Whether it's the thrill of defeating a boss in a classic game or simply reliving childhood moments, retro gaming fosters emotional connections that newer games sometimes fail to replicate. Key Takeaways Retro gaming is thriving with new releases and mini consoles. The Commodore 64 and Amiga Minis are popular choices for nostalgia lovers. The Neo Geo is making a comeback, but its game pricing is controversial. Nostalgia fuels a strong emotional connection to gaming experiences. Conclusion The world of retro gaming is rich with opportunities for both collectors and casual players. As nostalgia continues to drive the market, it's essential to stay updated on the latest releases and understand the value they bring. Whether you're looking to relive childhood memories or explore gaming history, there's something in the retro gaming scene for everyone. For more insights and discussions, stay tuned to our podcast! We often treat our future like a luxury we can afford to delay. We tell ourselves that waiting is the "responsible" choice—that we'll pivot once the kids are settled, once the quarter ends, or once we feel 100% ready. The truth? "Not yet" is the most expensive word in your vocabulary. In this week's letter, Pamela Stone breaks down the hidden costs of the delayed pivot. Every day you stay in a role, a relationship, or a mindset that you've already outgrown, you are paying "opportunity rent" with your peace and your legacy. This episode is a wake-up call for the woman who has been negotiating with her destiny instead of deciding on her future. In this episode, we discuss: • The Opportunity Rent: Calculating what it actually costs you (mentally and financially) to stay still. • The "Perfect Moment" Myth: Why waiting for the stars to align is actually a symptom of The Comfort Trap. • The Power of the Final Decision: How to move from contemplation to action without needing a 50-page business plan. Power Word of the Week: DECISION This week, we are moving past the "maybe." Take the word DECISION to your Vision Made Magazine (Wealth & Legacy Pillar). Use the Equity Blueprint page to do the math: What are you losing by not moving? It's time to stop paying rent on a life that no longer fits. Links & Resources: • The Magazine: Stop the delay. A Baggy Green cap worn by Sir Donald Bradman during Australia's 1947 Test series against India has sold at auction for $460,000. While this rare piece of Australian sporting history fetched a significant sum, it falls short of the record set by Shane Warne's Test cap, which sold for just over a million dollars in 2020 to raise funds for the Australian Red Cross following the 2019 Black Saturday bushfires. In this podcast, we chat with the MCG's Hindi-speaking tour guide, Nigel D'Mello, who says he's delighted as a cricket fan that it has come back to Australia.

Isolation is more than just uncomfortable—it distorts your thinking and drains your creativity. In this episode, Dan Sullivan and Shannon Waller open up about the risks of going it alone as an entrepreneur and why strong relationships make all the difference. Listen now to learn smart, actionable ways to reconnect, recharge, and keep yourself moving forward with clarity and confidence. Here's some of what you'll learn in this episode:Why isolation causes the mind to invent stories and distort reality. The reasons entrepreneurs are particularly vulnerable to feeling isolated. Why isolated entrepreneurs develop outrageous aspirations. What makes Strategic Coach® the perfect place for entrepreneurs to make long-lasting connections. Show Notes: Being an entrepreneur can be a lonely path, especially without external feedback. When there's no outside input, your mind starts making things up. Isolation causes your brain to respond just like it would to sensory deprivation. Entrepreneurs thrive on constant change, while most people resist change. An entrepreneur's creative imagination needs to be rewarded with real opportunities. Many entrepreneurs feel truly stimulated only when they're working productively. Isolated entrepreneurs use their imaginations to give themselves the sense that they're actually connected to the world. Feeling misunderstood quickly morphs into paranoia and makes isolation worse. Entrepreneurs are better than most at finding their own clarity, even in tough situations. The entrepreneurial journey means creating brand-new ideas and selling them, time after time. Seeing life from other people's perspectives keeps you connected and tuned in to reality. The more you understand and appreciate other people's experiences, the richer and more meaningful your own life becomes. Resources: Unique Ability® Always Be The Buyer by Dan Sullivan

Since Democrats decided to shut down the government over Affordable Care Act subsidies, now's a good time for a deep dive into what they're even talking about. John Hopkins professor Dr. Ge Bai walks us through the ACA subsidies, the hidden mechanics behind the Affordable Care Act, and its illusion of "affordability." Dr. Bai shows us how regulations and subsidies have quietly reshaped the healthcare market - and how the free market can make it work for patients again. Ge Bai, PhD, CPA is a Professor of Accounting at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and Professor of Health Policy & Management (joint) at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. An expert on health care accounting, finance, and policy, Dr. Bai has testified before the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate HELP Committee, written for the Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post, and published her studies in leading academic journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and Health Affairs.
