Tune in here to this Thursday's edition of Breaking With Brett Jensen! Breaking Brett Jensen talks with Charlotte City Councilman Ed Driggs for the entire show, where they discuss crime, transit and the 2040 Plan. in the first segment, Driggs discusses the tension between law enforcement and civil rights, emphasizing the need for more visible police presence to combat rising crime in the city, especially Uptown. He also addresses the city's efforts to increase CMPD staffing and improve safety, while balancing delicate political considerations. Later, they discuss transportation, particularly the I-77 toll lanes north and south, and the potential expansion of light rail with the 1-cent sales tax. The conversation touches on the ongoing debate in Matthews regarding transit funding.Initially, the plan aimed to dedicate most of the tax revenue to rail, but the legislature altered it to a 40% allocation for rail, 20% for buses, and 40% for roads. This shift led to disappointment in Matthews, as key rail projects, including the Silver Line extension, were scaled back. Matthews' leadership has opposed the plan, while most other local representatives have supported it. Listen here for all of this and more on Breaking With Brett Jensen. Michelino Sunseri is a professional runner living in Driggs, ID. In September 2024, Michelino broke the existing FKT on the Grand Teton, held for 12 years by Andy Anderson - one of the longest standing and most iconic up/down speed records in mountain running. During the attempt, Michelino made the strategic decision to take the "Old Climber's Trail," deviating from the official route for a period during the descent.   Michelino managed to lower the existing FKT by a little over 2mins, finishing in 2:50:50. A few days after the run, controversy emerged as it related to Michelino's decision to use the Old Climber's Trail, creating a debate about FKT ethics and whether Michelino deserved to retain the record even though he used a slightly different route from the previous record holder.     A week later, on September 9th, Fastest Known Time officially rejected the record based on objections from the National Park Service based again on Michelino's decision to use the Old Climber's Trail instead of staying on the officially recognized route.    On September 25, 2024, the NPS charged Michelino under 36 CFR 2.1(b) with an initial court appearance, a statute that carries a maximum penalty of $5,000 and/or six months in jail.   In this podcast, we discuss the history of FKTs on the Grand Teton, including Michelino's personal history projecting the route. We talk through the ethics of FKTs and the grey area that exists and that this event revealed. No one at the Garrison Art Center benefit in November took more painstaking care to design a conical hat at the invitation of the hosts than Melissa Small Cooper, who drew detailed hibiscus flowers. She and her husband, Brett, are raising three young daughters (the eldest is 6). Cooper, 38, teaches art at Peekskill High School and says it can be challenging to find time to create. If she can block off eight hours or so to sit at her studio space near the kitchen of their home in Glenham, "I bury myself in the art and the time goes by like that," she says. This month, two of her paintings are being shown at venues hosting receptions on the same day (Jan. 11). One will be in the Annual Member Show at the Garrison Art Center, the other at the Wallkill River Center for the Arts in Montgomery. Cooper's work is ever-evolving. Her primary medium is oil on canvas, but she tries to knock her skills out of rhythm using pastel or gouache (akin to watercolor) or by completing one-day miniflowers on wood discs that lack the precision of her series featuring a hand grasping a flower, with shadows. "I was getting too obsessed with the details, so I thought I'd try a new approach," she says. To expand her outlook, Cooper also took a pottery class at the art center, where she is a board member. Some of her paintings delineate fine lines and lifelike detail: a shimmer of light glimmering off a fingernail, the folds of flesh in a knuckle or the sun reflecting off of blue pool water. Others, like depictions of her late dog or the Golden Gate Bridge, are more impressionistic. A pristine portrait of her daughter in the Wallkill show is another stretch. "I heard about the show and figured it would be good to flex those muscles," she says. The image is drawn from one of hundreds - possibly thousands - of photos on her phone, which she calls "reference shots." Another series of paintings features cosmetics containers. In contrast to her detailed flowers and hands, which many artists find difficult to render, some of the shapes are geometrically asymmetrical and the shadows resemble smudges. Many of the pieces contain words and faint phrases. Cooper enjoys gardening, but the recurring flowery focus emerged after her aunt's funeral. "Everyone got a random flower when they came in, and the image of people standing there hit me," she says. The hand models include friends and her sister. As Cooper's success blossoms, she promotes her work whenever possible. In addition to a solo show at the Burgin Center for the Arts at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania, a few paintings hang at Foxtrot Fine Arts in Driggs, Idaho, a gallery operated by a former professor at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. A note in her sketchbook, filled with detailed ballpoint pen creations, reads: "I will draw in my sketchbook every evening after the kids go to sleep." So far, she's been disciplined: "Some days I get no sleep and focus on the task at hand, which is bliss for me. Other times, I have to work in spurts. But I'm never not working." The Annual Member Show at the Garrison Art Center, 23 Garrison's Landing, opens Jan. 11 with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. and continues through Jan. 26. Circana's vice president of Thought Leadership, Joan Driggs, joins the Food For Thought podcast to discuss the trends driving Thanksgiving shopping for food and beverage products this year. Shoppers are not wavering on the products they want on this American food-fest of a holiday, and retailers and processors, fortunately, are stepping up to offer deals and make the cost a little more affordable for consumers. In addition, Driggs digs into the Thanksgiving meal — how people approach eating at home versus in a restaurant — when they do celebrate Turkey Day out of the home — and how the Thanksgiving meal remains very heavily homemade. She also implores food and beverage manufacturers to be unique and find ways to promote their products as adjacencies to the main meal, which often supplies a few added leftover meal options in the days afterward. Check out Circana's 2024 Thanksgiving Outlook for a deeper dive.

In a pivotal moment of the ongoing trial, Garth Daybell, son of Chad Daybell, took the stand to testify about the night his mother Tammy died and the subsequent legal pressures he faced. His attorney, Forrest Fischer, also testified, providing crucial insights into the grand jury proceedings that Garth had to navigate. Garth Daybell recounted the night of October 18, 2019. Garth, an 8th-grade science teacher, described his involvement in a local haunted house and his routine on the evening before his mother's death. "I got home from the haunted attraction around 1 a.m. and saw their shapes in the bed as I passed by their room," Garth testified. He watched YouTube videos until around 3 a.m. and was later awakened by his father's call for help. "I heard a thump and then my dad said, 'Garth, come help,'" Garth recounted. He found his mother, Tammy, partially off the bed, and immediately tried to help her. "I realized she's not been breathing," Garth said, describing his shock and helplessness. The following morning, Garth was met with law enforcement vehicles outside his home. "Several officers got out and surrounded me and insisted I go with them," he testified. His phone was confiscated, and both he and his wife were detained separately for hours.  Garth felt immense pressure from prosecutors to change his testimony, stating, "They were telling me my story was untrue and I needed to change it."    Forrest Fischer, Garth's attorney, took the stand to provide his account. Fischer, based in Driggs, was called to provide legal services for Garth during the grand jury proceedings. "The focus of the grand jury was on Garth," Fischer explained, noting that Garth had previously testified and now faced follow-up questions, potentially about perjury. Fischer recounted his instructions to Garth during the proceedings. "I told him to answer only the questions being asked and if he wasn't sure, Garth could consult with me," Fischer testified. He emphasized that Garth should not talk to the media. Fischer also addressed whether he warned Garth about potential traps in the grand jury. "I don't recall exactly but wouldn't have been surprised if I did because Garth had already testified," Fischer said. Garth's testimony revealed the emotional toll of the events. He learned about his mother's exhumation unexpectedly from his sister Emma. "It was a complete surprise," Garth said. He described his normal school day interrupted by law enforcement's presence at his home, leading to a deeply distressing experience. Garth also spoke about his father Chad Daybell's religious beliefs, contrasting them with his own. Garth described his father's beliefs as more traditional, closer to how the LDS faith was practiced a hundred years ago. "I teach and believe in evolution. I teach that to my students. I teach the earth is 4.5 billion years old as opposed to 6,000," Garth said, highlighting his more scientific perspective. He also discussed his father's views on spiritual concepts like the 144,000 and the practice of casting out evil spirits. Garth acknowledged partially sharing some of his father's views on light and dark as opposing forces but did not fully align with Chad's more extreme beliefs. Throughout the testimony, attorneys from both sides engaged in detailed questioning. Prosecutor Lindsey Blake asked Garth about his awareness of the grand jury's intent and his interactions with law enforcement. Defense attorney John Prior focused on Garth's perceptions of his father's beliefs and the pressure he felt from prosecutors. As the session concluded, Garth reaffirmed his belief that the prosecutors were pressuring him to alter his testimony. "It was made pretty plain that I needed to change my story to fit theirs," Garth said, highlighting the intense scrutiny and legal challenges he faced. Forrest Fischer's testimony wrapped up with his confirmation of providing legal counsel to Garth, emphasizing that there were no charges against him. The court adjourned shortly after Fischer's cross-examination by prosecutor Blake. The testimonies of Garth Daybell and Forrest Fischer provided crucial insights into the personal and legal challenges faced by the Daybell family. As the trial progresses, these testimonies underscore the complexities and emotional weight of the case, shedding light on the intense scrutiny surrounding the events leading to Tammy Daybell's death and the subsequent legal proceedings. Ever wanted to own a horse? Think all wild horses should just be left to roam free? If you had a horse of your own, how would your life change? We cover all these questions and more as I piece together 3 men's voices from The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo.  This was one of my most creative podcasts because I had to do a lot of workarounds to improve the audio and create a seamless listening experience for my listeners that still conveys the essence of what is important in these conversations. Clearly, this is the tip of the iceberg, and it is my hope that this podcast will inspire you to go deeper in the adventure of animal ownership or whatever dream your heart really calls you, too. After all, we only get this one life from what I've heard! So let's make the most of it, and make the most of the beautiful animals we are blessed to call home with us. Thank you to all of our guests and their special stories, and to animal lovers everywhere,Here is an outline of who you will hear in this podcast and some links to learn more about each:Tim Resch, from Estes Park Outfitters, followed up with a short zoom call with me during spring break when I discovered that his audio was inaudible and used AI for the original to make it work. You get to hear his real voice in the first 20 minutes of the podcast, and the story everyone is talking about:"How he traded his wife for a horse!!"You won't want to miss this one in the first half of this episode. You can find out more about Tim and how to visit him on your horse adventures here:https://www.estesparkoutfitters.com/about-usAround the second half of the episode, we hear from Matt Manroe, Executive Director of Mustang Champions about his experience of working with and training mustang horses in multiple disciplines. When I first met Matt, I thought he said that he had 2 million mustangs placed in his program (I misheard him - he was talking about a grant, I believe). But we both laughed and also considered, creatively, what might be possible if we could get mustangs in to every school and the hearts of school children across the nation. It would not only change the trajectory of the wild horses, the range, and the schools, it would change the trajectory of all humanity. You will not want to miss hearing about the visionary competitions in The Kentucky Horse Park and Las Vegas Show Arenas that Matt has spearheaded. You can buy tickets, make donations and find out more here:https://mustangchampions.org/Finally, the third voice you hear, Kevin Lloyd, is a fellow Idaho-an who I'm looking forward to catching up with again at the Driggs rodeo this summer. His job is to capture, place and manage the wild horse herds in our state and region. He had a wealth of perspective and understanding of both the vision and the problems that we, as a nation, and mustangs, as a species, are facing. His passion for caring for the wild horses and leading them in to better lives, care and connections with humanity, especially youth, was beautiful to witness and hear about. If you want connect with Kevin or learn more about how to find the education, training and possibilites inherent in owning a mustang or wild horse, click the article below:https://mypubliclands.tumblr.com/post/128849059547/blm-idaho-engages-youth-with-wild-horsesSpecial thanks to Lisa Dierson who connected us to Julianne Neal (Camden, SC), of JA Media Productions, for the audio excerpt from her panel video for The Mustang SummJust says "buy the book on Amazon!"Support the showConnect with me in the following ways:catcaldwellmyers@gmail.comwww.catcaldwellmyers.com@catcaldwellmyers@adventureparadoxThe Adventure Paradox Podcast Page (Fb)

Hello to you listening in Driggs, Idaho!Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga.Recently a friend mentioned that she was having a rough go of it because the job she had she didn't want and the job she wanted she couldn't get and this made her feel somehow lacking. If this undesirable situation is true - and she seems to believe it's true - now what? What if we look objectively at the undesirable situation as an experiment that didn't produce the expected results.  Does that mean it failed? Perhaps not. What if the so-called failed experiment is a data point; it could be pointing you in a better direction. Jonas Salk once said, “There is no such thing as a failed experiment, because learning what doesn't work is a necessary step to learning what does.” Or, as the famous American jazz musician Louis Armstrong said, “It's taken me all my life to learn what not to play.”  Practical Tip: Think of a time when you believed you had failed but you figured out how to turn that experience into an opportunity and grow toward your better self. Citizen 33 sits on State Route 33 in Idaho, a little way down the road from Grand Targhee, which might actually have the best skiing dollar-for-dollar of any resort in the country. It's less than half the price of Jackson Hole, and gets all the same snow, and has MORE acreage. And better views of the Tetons from the hill.Back in January 2021 I talked to head brewer Nick Farney about how he came to the area, what he likes to do for fun in the Teton Valley, and how he keeps making beers that are worth driving all the way out to Driggs for. One of his secrets: he sources ALL his hops from local farms in Idaho.

Deborah Driggs career was skyrocketing and she was featured in Playboy, she was in movies and television. All that success was masking her addiction to alcohol, addiction to fame, and trouble with relationships, which hid the trauma and neglect she experienced as a child. Growing up with a father that was addicted to alcohol and a mother that showed her little affection. She started drinking at a young age it wasn't until she hit rock bottom later in life when she lost her money, her children were living with their father, and was in and out of institutions that she knew she needed help. She now helps others suffering from addiction to seek the help they need. No one should feel ashamed about asking for help. Her story reminds us that we must deal with our pain and trauma in order to lead truly happy and healthy lives.

Deborah Driggs is known for her acting, dancing, and modelling, she is also a top-rated insurance professional and was even a playboy centerfold! Deborah now focuses her time and passion on helping women break through negative self-talk, take on challenges and build themselves the lives they deserve. Deborah joins Dawn to talk all about her mission, the journey that got her to where she is today including her success in the acting world as well as her struggles with addiction. KEY TAKEAWAYS   Deborah and Dawn both worked as flight attendants for Airlines in the 1980s. They both learnt how to deal with frightening emergencies and how to remain calm under immense pressure. Following some work modelling in Japan, Deborah decided that on her return to the U.S. she wanted to work in commercials, and this is exactly what she did. She recognized this as a pivotal moment in her life. After having a successful career in commercials, print and some bit parts, Deborah was given an opportunity to have a lead role, but she needed to take some acting classes to be hired. Deborah met her husband and got married in 92', she had her first child in 93' and her final acting role was in 98'. She was in a new era of her life. Deborah struggled with alcoholism most of her life, she now recognizes that this was part of the generational trauma that she was carrying. After the breakdown of her marriage, Deborah fell deeper into her addiction and even contemplated suicide. She entered rehab and managed to stay sober for a while but after getting a new job she convinced herself that she wasn't an alcoholic and she began drinking again. To most, things looked great for Deborah. But she was miserable, she was just good at putting on a mask. If you aren't living your authentic self, then regardless of money or status you have nothing. Deborah discovered she needed to tackle her issues and trauma head on, it was only this that allowed her to heal, from her trauma, suffering and addiction. She now helps others do the same. BEST MOMENTS “If there's a struggle there's a problem and in that problem, there is a beautiful solution” “That was probably the most pivotal moment of my life, I knew I was on the right track” “Everything that people said I wouldn't be able to do, I just found a way to do it”“I do have a bit of success anxiety” “Everything looked good on the outside” “I believe that generational trauma exists” "I had to experience a lot of different healing journeys"   CONTACT METHODhttps://www.instagram.com/theawakeningwithdawndawn@theawakeningwithdawn.com ABOUT THE HOST Dawn Rishárd, M.A. with 20 years as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Systems, I empower people to release the past, open their hearts, and receive the love they desire. Meet Deborah DriggsToday we're talking with Deborah Driggs. Her experience with divorce, trauma and recovery has fueled her across the career landscape — from model to actor to sales to motivational speaker. She joins Seth and Pete in the Toaster to share the story of divorces in her own life – first her parents' and later her own – and to explore how she learned the power of taking risks, staying positive, and offering help to those who need it. Her divorce sent her down some dark rabbit holes and it's taken a long time to get out. But she has. Deborah talks about getting out of rejection and moving forward. She made the decision to not take ‘no' for an answer, and that largely means from herself. That mental focus has put her in a place where she's able to help others work through their own negativity and heal. It's a powerful story of peaks and valleys but always leading toward peace and healing.Links & NotesDeborah's websiteDeborah on LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and FacebookSchedule a consult with SethGot a question you want to ask on the show? Deborah Driggs appeared to have it all. She was on the cover of Playboy 3 times, Oprah invited her on the show, and she was in movies and on television. However, in her words, "I was miserable. I was using attention, relationships, and addiction to cover the wounds of my past. The harder and faster I ran from that pain–the more I ignored it, the better I felt. Or so I thought. I ended up broke and divorced with three young children." Deborah learned that it wasn't what was on the outside that satisfied, but rather facing what was on the inside. In this in-depth interview, Deborah shares her story, her struggles and the way in which she is helping others now learn to embrace it all. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soshedidpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soshedidpodcast/support

And while it may seem like Deborah's success came easy to her, nothing could be further from the truth. Rather, she's overcome a number of challenges in her life to get to where she is today but what is true, and a part of her character is her willingness to take risks, maintain a positive attitude, and never take ‘no' for an answer. Deborah's transition into the insurance world started off in the same vein – with a challenge to herself. By the end of her first year, she was a top producer, followed by ongoing years of membership in the Million Dollar Roundtable, Top of the Table, and as a contributing member in Leadership for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU).  Deborah's clients have included movie studio moguls, celebrities, Fortune 500 leaders, and high net-worth individuals. Over the past two decades, she has lent her support to a number of nonprofits that make a difference in people's lives, including Richard Branson's Virgin Unite, Go Campaign, Operation Underground Railroad (#OURrescue), Cut50, Reform Alliance with Van Jones and in funding a school in Peru. ➡️ Show Links https://twitter.com/deborahdriggs/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/deborahdriggs/ https://deborahdriggs.com/ ➡️ Podcast Sponsors HUBSPOT - https://hubspot.com/ TRUEBILL - https://truebill.com/successstory HELLOFRESH - https://hellofresh.com/successstory16 ➡️ Talking Points⁣ 00:00 - Intro 02:40 - Deborah Driggs' origin story. 08:15 - Why do athletes make great entrepreneurs. 16:40 - How to get into Playboy? 19:16 - How much does Playboy pay? 24:30 - Deborah's Playboy career. 32:30 - Current Playboy scandals & cancel culture. 38:13 - Does canceling someone actually do anything positive? 44:41 - Deborah Driggs post-Playboy life. 49:52 - How to leverage your network?  54:41 - Why do people overcomplicate selling?  57:54 - Why do so many people fail in the insurance industry?  58:45 - What is Deborah Driggs doing now?  1:06:50 - What is some advice to overcoming negative self-talk?  1:14:00 - Where do people connect with Deborah Driggs? 1:15:20 - What was the biggest challenge of Deborah Driggs's career? 1:15:55 - Who is the mentor of Deborah Driggs? 1:17:39 - A book or a podcast recommended by Deborah Driggs. 1:18:37 - What would Deborah Driggs tell her 20-year-old self? 1:18:58 - What does success mean to Deborah Driggs?
