On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty and retirement coach/author Lisa Haynes cut through the myths of retirement planning. This episode focuses on the non-financial side of retiring well—identity shifts, mental and emotional fitness, and building social connection after leaving work. Lisa breaks down her KILLIN' IT framework—practical steps to keep moving, design purpose, and nurture networks—so you can build a post-career life you're actually excited to live.   About the guest   Lisa Haynes is a certified executive and retirement coach, former CFO, and author of Retired and Killing It. She helps current and soon-to-be retirees create purposeful, connected lives by planning the psychological, social, and lifestyle sides of retirement—not just the finances.   Key takeaways   Retirement is a transition, not a stop. Identity and purpose often wobble once the job title disappears; plan for this shift early. K — Keep moving: Protect mental, physical, and social health; don't stay home multiple days without getting out. I — Imagine what's next: Start with a clean whiteboard—travel, volunteering, part-time work, relocation, family time—then set real targets. L — Laugh a lot: Adults forget to play; joy and laughter have tangible health benefits. L — Live for legacy: Legacy is impact, not just money—share wisdom and contribute where you care. I — Ignite your passion: Purpose emerges when you spend time on energizing, meaningful activities. N — Nurture your network: Audit relationships; invest in a smaller, stronger circle for resilience and information flow. I — Invest in others: Mentor, teach, and give back; it reinforces meaning. T — Tell yourself you're “killing it.” Self-encouragement matters on off days. First action today: Do the “Imagine What's Next” exercise—list every interest, then pick one to act on this week.   Connect with the guest   Website: https://haynesexec.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lisa.haynes.1010/ Instagram: @https://www.instagram.com/lisaj_617 Email: lisa@haynesexec.com LinkedIn: Lisa Haynes (banner: “Retired and Killing It”) Book: Retired and Killing It (available on Amazon)   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? Creating strong friendships as an adult is something I have been thinking about a lot lately, and it seems like many, many other people are to. In the last few years, there have been books, studies, articles, podcast episodes- you name it- all trying to understand adult friendship. This topic got particular attention in the wake of lockdown, when across the US, employees of all kinds who made the necessary switch to working from home, well, stayed home. I'm sure many of you have heard about the “epidemic of loneliness.”As owners of very small businesses where we are also often the one-and-only employee, solitude may not have been totally new for us when lockdown was put in place. Not to say small business owners are a necessarily lonely bunch, but I think many would agree that creating friendships and growing a community of peers can be more challenging outside of a big company or organization setting. That's part of the reason why I created my membership program, Making Good Happen, to create a space for like-minded small business owners to swap ideas, share hardship, and rejoice in each other's wins. I'm not usually a big New Years resolution gal, but this year I did set the goal of spending more quality time with people in my small business community, not only online but in person. But let's face it, getting the ball rolling can feel a little awkward. That's why I was so excited to chat with today's guest, Danielle Bayard Jackson. A certified friendship coach, Danielle teaches women how to make and maintain better friendships through research-based methodology. Since studying the ins and outs of female friendships, her teachings include how to solve common female friendship conflicts, creating connections with depth and closeness, and the impact of friendship on our physical, mental, and emotional health.MAKING GOOD SHOWNOTES:https://makinggoodpodcast.com/235CONNECT WITH ME ON INSTAGRAM:https://instagram.com/laurentildenGET 100 MARKETING PROMPTS (free!):https://makinggoodpodcast.com/100promptsStuck on what to say in our marketing?
