--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chooseyourmentor/message

So whilst I'm finishing this degree, I still have to upload here because well... who's going to? So I've come back with a good friend of mine called Tomi AKA "When She Speaks" and boy when she spoke it was truly amazing. (ON BRAND) She's an Artist, Poet and overall lover of music so we got into it about where her influence comes from and her journey to redemption. You see where I'm going with this? Good. You can never win with Twitter can ya? You share your problems and people want to run jokes smh - The 9-5er is played out. Apparently women are still screaming they want flexibility in entrepreneurs over the 9-5 job. Please ladies, we've had enough! What do you guys want? If you're reading this it's not too late to send Gbengz a present and wish him a happy birthday! From birthdays to talking about love being a choice. Do you choose daily to love someone and how blurred are the lines when you do something wrong but still proclaim you love the person? All this love stuff on a Wednesday night I know it's heavy! Apparently you should know the voices when you hear them according to our favourite influenzaa Korede so I think this description is pointless this week then... She always ruins my fun so I think you guys should let her ave itttt (@lifeofkors for those asking). You can start by telling her how to properly mix drinks because it seems I'm childish for wanting my mix to taste like juice. You can't win with women can you! Speaking of childish, Just how childish is it to want to have a Doula after pregnancy? Should you as a mother hold all responsibility in taking care of your child or can you delegate such responsibilities to someone else without it coming across as lazy or privileged? Marriage can be a scary thing sometimes, more importantly divorce and what constitutes as a good ground for divorce. You just can't be divorcing your spouse because they aren't attractive anymore... or can you? It's always fun having these guys in the studio so enjoy this week's episode with your host Joseph (@Joewrites_) and guests: Korede (@lifeofkors) , Dami (@_damilolaa) , Gbenga (@_gbengz)

In this week's episode, we discussed a quote which circulated during the week stating that "as Black people, not all of our issues stem from race. I feel like it's become a crutch for Black people to excuse certain behaviours and be angry at society for every position we find ourselves in". Do we as Black people often use race as the only explanation for why we may not be excelling or are there other factors which we overlook that play into it? Korede's sister Ayoola is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola's third boyfriend in a row is dead, stabbed through the heart with Ayoola's knife. Korede's practicality is the sisters' saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood (bleach, bleach, and more bleach), the best way to move a body (wrap it in sheets like a mummy), and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures to Instagram when she should be mourning her “missing” boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works. She dreams of the day when he will realize that she's exactly what he needs. But when he asks Korede for Ayoola's phone number, she must reckon with what her sister has become and how far she's willing to go to protect her. Oyinkan Braithwaite's 2018 novel My Sister, the Serial Killer is the story of two sisters, Korede and Ayoola, who live in Lagos, Nigeria. Korede is a hard working nurse, who cares deeply about her patients and her family, in particular her sister, who she feels protective of after a difficult childhood. It could be a sweet family novel, except for the small fact that Ayoola can't stop killing her boyfriends. And dutiful Korede is always there to help her clean up the mess. Life, however, becomes much more complicated when Ayoola begins dating a doctor at Korede's hospital, someone Korede has deep romantic feelings for. And so begins the story of My Sister, the Serial Killer. Interview with Braithwaite from Politics and Prose: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcfCcOfpF08&app=desktop
