For the sake of the children Sally decided to put down roots and after many years she was able to explore her own passion for theatre and productions. Sally has created a safe place called “The Loft”, where with her help kids can express themselves creatively, in a way that she was never able to. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO STRAIGHT TO THE CRIME CONTENT, PLEASE CHECK THE RELEVANT TIMESTAMPS. (9:40) - Mica Miller follow up (16:25) - Sugar Baby Murders In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss two cases of young women who were murdered by their ‘sugar daddies'. Sugar dating is a pseudo-romantic relationship between an older wealthy person and a younger, usually significantly poorer, person. Many sugar babies are college/university students who are looking for a way to pay off their debt. Mackenzie Lueck met Ayoola Ajayi online in 2019. The two planned to meet up after her flight home for her grandmother's funeral. But, Ayoola had ulterior motives and planned to murder her. When Mackenzie got to his home, he tied her up and strangled her. Ayoola then attempted to burn Mackenzie's remains and belongings in his backyard, in full view of his AirBnB renter and neighbors.  Liliya (Lily) Guyvoronsky (20) had been dating Bothell City Council member James McNeal (58) for months. James recently left his wife and three children to be with her. Lily detailed their relationship in her diary and in messages to her friends. 'He is really controlling and I can tell he thinks I'm stupid because I am young,' she wrote. In April 2024, the two got into an argument and James allegedly killed Lily. James called his attorney to the scene who called 911 to report the murder. James is currently in jail awaiting trial, scheduled for July.   Read our blog for these cases We are now on Patreon! Valentine's Day Greetings Glocal Citizens! It's happy hearts day and this week's episode is especially close to my heart because we're talking learning and language, culture and heritage in multigenerational diaspora communities across the globe. Dr. Taiye Ayoola-Adedeji, a Nigerian-American Pharmacist and recently the CEO of her publishing company, Taikun Publishing, is the author of the innovative, educational and interactive Yoruba-English bilingual book titled, The Yoruba Sound Book for Children, which was successfully launched in April 2022. Currently based in Maryland, Dr. Taiye earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy, a top institution in the U.S. Although she migrated to the US at a relatively young age, she is fortunate to have spent her early formative years in Nigeria where she was truly able to gain appreciation for the Yoruba culture and language. As a mother wanting her own children to also value their cultural heritage, she is even more resolute about finding innovative ways to pass on the rich culture and instilling in them a sense of pride about their great ancestry, cultural heritage and identity. Dr. Taiye is passionate about preserving and promoting the Yoruba language and culture, particularly in the diaspora where comprehensive resources to teach or learn the tonal Yoruba language are limited. We say cheers to continued success with works in Yoruba and other African languages! Korede's sister Ayoola is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola's third boyfriend in a row is dead, stabbed through the heart with Ayoola's knife. Korede's practicality is the sisters' saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood (bleach, bleach, and more bleach), the best way to move a body (wrap it in sheets like a mummy), and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures to Instagram when she should be mourning her “missing” boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit. Korede has long been in love with a kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where she works. She dreams of the day when he will realize that she's exactly what he needs. But when he asks Korede for Ayoola's phone number, she must reckon with what her sister has become and how far she's willing to go to protect her. Korede is a hard working nurse, who cares deeply about her patients and her family, in particular her sister, who she feels protective of after a difficult childhood. It could be a sweet family novel, except for the small fact that Ayoola can't stop killing her boyfriends. And dutiful Korede is always there to help her clean up the mess. Life, however, becomes much more complicated when Ayoola begins dating a doctor at Korede's hospital, someone Korede has deep romantic feelings for. Do you really know the person you're dating? Kim Chakanetsa talks to two acclaimed female authors whose stories shine a harsh light on the duplicity of romantic relationships. Kristen Roupenian is the author of Cat Person, which became the first short story to ever go viral when it was published in the New Yorker in 2017. It's the tale of a young woman's brief relationship with an older man, and it sparked an online debate about consent, unwanted sex and honesty when dating. Cat Person is included in Kristen's book of short stories, You Know You Want This. Oyinkan Braithwaite is the writer of the novel My Sister, The Serial Killer. It's the story of two Nigerian sisters, one of whose boyfriends somehow keep ending up dead. Oyinkan says the murderous and stunning Ayoola has become an unlikely heroine for some readers, and that she is very interested in exploring the superficial nature of romantic liaisons, which lead to women's physical beauty often being their most powerful asset. Now available in paperback, Braithwaite’s spectacular debut novel is the story of two sisters, Ayoola and Korede, and the secrets that bind them together. As the book opens, Ayoola has just killed her boyfriend. She claims it was self-defense—as it was with the two previous boyfriends she killed. Korede, who works at a hospital, disposes of the body and tells no one. But her silent complicity is tested when Ayoola starts visiting her at work and attracts the attention of a doctor Korede is in love with. Fast-paced, smart, and chilling, Braithwaite ratchets up the tension to an explosive ending.Braithwaite is in conversation with writer and producer Tayla Burney.https://www.politics-prose.com/book/9780525564201Learn more about your ad choices. "When you meet someone with disability on the road, it's not time to give them money. It's more appropriate to find ways that they could be their best in their situation." This is one of the most striking statement Ayoola Efunkoya made in this episode of Lead Your Life Series. We live in a  society where there is no proper system for inclusion of people with disabilities and therefore they are being marginalized.  We often times subconsciously see them as helpless people who need pity.Today's episode of Lead Your Life Series features the story of how Ayoola Efunkoya who might have been seen as just a blind man, took charge of his life and became independent. Today, he is helping individuals with disabilities access technology that help them improve their productivity.Lead Your Life Series, is a special edition of Lead Your Life Podcast. We share real life experiences of how personal struggles and seeming setbacks were turned into phenomenal stories of hope and grace. About Ayoola Efunkoya Ayoola Stephen Efunkoya is a journalist with more than five years experience in reporting, writing, interviewing, editing and producing for radio as well as sound recording and editing. His interest in journalism dates to his days in elementary and high schools and has since grown because he believes the profession provides a rare opportunity to draw the attention of both government and the society to communities and issues which would otherwise have gained little or no attention because they are often under-reported.As a visually impaired person himself, he considers blind persons as members of his immediate community. In service to this community, he started Accessibility 360 with the aim of researching, informing, educating and training other blind persons to use assistive and mainstream technology. He is motivated to do this because, according to him, his own achievements are largely the result of technology’s impact in equipping the blind to fit and compete in school, at work, at play and in other spheres of life. So far, at least 100 blind persons in Lagos and its surrounding towns come together through Accessibility 360 to learn, share ideas and resolve each other's challenges with technology via a WhatsApp group and on Facebook.Efunkoya is also interested in marketing communication, social media, public speaking, small businesses, media research, leadership and management. The communication professional and accessible technology enthusiast/trainer is an alumni of the President Barack Obama-initiated Young African Leaders Initiative and LEAP Africa’s Young Leadership Programme.Efunkoya was the best graduating student in the 2009 class at the University of Lagos’ Mass Communication Department with a cumulative grade point of 4.36 of a possible 5.00 and where he also received numerous awards. He has a Masters degree in Communication and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan and also attended Loyola Jesuit College. When he is not working, you are likely to find him reading, listening to music or in conversation with someone. He loves traveling and meeting people.Efunkoya would be telling us about his struggles, What were his redefining moments, the two most important steps he took differently, what were the aftermath, and what lessons he would like you to take away from his story.Enjoy!  * Podcast: Play in new window | Download (Duration: 20:07 — 18.6MB) You can also listen on: iTunes | Android | Email | RSSBe SocialPlease share the love by sharing this post across your Facebook, Twitter and other social channels.  What can you make of Efunkoya's story?
