A replay of the only episode I've ever deleted. Please listen to Episode 84 Our Complex Humanity Cannot Be Cancelled first. Our ancestors were in constant biochemical conversation with the world, and so are we. Plants are a gateway into the depths of our consciousness, emotions, and physical experience of being alive. Let us come back into relationship with the information available in each interaction with the natural world. TOPICS: The archetype of the witch in the hut at the edge of the village Neurodivergence, tryptamine, sensory gating channels, and pattern recognition What is the purpose of the human being? Finding one's path after a confused and lost childhood Psilocybin and the conversation happening between everything Knowing what you're saying yes to When an herb changes your embodied experience of the world The illusory distinction between plant, animal, and human consciousness Finding what's ours to do in a world with so much suffering The power of drop doses to create somatic shifts Creating coherence in the complex, fluid, multivalent signalling system within the body Plant compounds that mirror our neurotransmitters and hormones Ancestral names, places, music, language, and stories Hawthorn myth and medicine RESOURCES: Episode 84: Our Complex Humanity Cannot Be Cancelled Sean's website Otherworld Well Sean's book The Forest Reminds Us Who We Are: Connecting to the Living Medicine of Wild Plants Sean's Ancestral Heartbeat Meditation on Patreon Clementine Morrigan on Instagram Medicine Stories Patreon (podcast bonuses!) Soul Soil: Where Agriculture and Spirit Intersect with Brooke Kornegay

“Our sense of ‘the individual', which really began with the rise of capitalism and the forceful severing of people from land and community, led to the concept that there are categories of being that do and do not have consciousness, that are and are not alive, that do and do not have their own right to existence…and when we actually drop into our senses and allow ourselves to experience the living world, we discover that so many of the things that were not supposed to be intelligent, or sentient, are speaking to us and with us. And that changes everything.” Seán Pádraig O'Donoghue is an herbalist, writer, and teacher, and an initiated Priest in two traditions. He lives in the mountains of western Maine. Seán's approach to healing weaves together the insights of traditional western herbalism, animism, and contemporary science. He regards physical, spiritual, and emotional healing as deeply intertwined. He is the author of The Forest Reminds Us Who We Are. In this episode… Early influences and experiences working with plant and animal consciousnesses How becoming more fully embodied opens awareness and the capacity to connect with nature The aromatic scents of plants are recognized as kinship signals within our bodies; when we can direct our attention to a specific plant, tension is released within our bodies so that we can connect more openly The near-constant barrage and sensory overload of modern living and its effect on our ability to deeply listen to subtle information in our natural surroundings Some simple practices that can help us open our awareness and refine our senses What's most permanent about us is our threefold nature…the “Talking” or “Human” self that interacts with abstractions and language (our persona and ego), our “Animal” self that experiences sensation and emotions, responding to rhythm and ritual and love, and our “God” self or “Infinite” self that knows our divinity and infinity Examining our own programming and conditioning and reclaiming our body's innate wisdom, through the senses, to convey information about the world around us Indigenous vs. colonizers, and the worldview of “we” vs. “I” “To die healed is to die while being in right relation with all things in your inner world and your outer worlds. That can happen only in the context where we recognize and experience the world as alive. We cannot come into this full expression of who we are without letting our consciousness to fully enter and fill our bodies.” “6,000 years of patriarchal civilization has created rigid patterns within humans where we are armoring ourselves against our own eros, our own nature, our own desire for life, as well as armoring ourselves against the feelings and experiences of those around us. When we are in that place of being cut off from ourselves and each other, we can more easily become the instruments of ideologies that try to tell us what's right and wrong, and who does and doesn't have a right to exist.” Resources The Forest Reminds Us Who We Are: Connecting to the Living Medicine of Wild Plants by Seán Pádraig O'Donoghue https://otherworldwell.com/ Victor H. “We don’t have change, if we don’t expect it”I’ve had a lot of interesting people on the Stay Grounded podcast during 2018, but this week’s episode broke a new record. At 98, Dr Gladys McGarey is our oldest guest yet.Dr. Gladys has devoted her entire life to changing the face of modern medicine - and she’s seen so much. She grew up in India where both her parents worked as medical missionaries during the 1920s and she trained to become a doctor during World War II.Instead of a focus on healing, she felt medicine was too focused on ‘getting rid’ of the things we don’t want such as pain, disease, and bacteria. So, instead of being ‘at war’ with our bodies, Gladys became passionate about life and living. This sparked a lifelong mission to explore holistic medicine, which led to Gladys co-founding the American Holistic Medical Association in 1977.She was the first person to utilize Acupuncture in the United States - and trained others how to use it.The Foundation for Living Medicine was created from her visionary life - with the mission to create a healthier world by fostering our own capacity to heal and to further extraordinary legacies, regardless of age or medical history. She’s widely considered to be The Mother of Holistic Medicine - and I can see why.Dr Gladys is one of the most beautiful people I’ve ever met.You can feel her warmth, love, and passion for life in her voice, which is why I know this episode is going to spark something inside of you.Her “5 Ls” may encourage you to take a fresh approach to your own wellness journey. Her incredible stories of healing may inspire some healing of your own.And her belief that we all have a physician within may help you listen more intently to your own inner wisdom, that’s always ready to guide us.So tune in.You’ll learn plenty from this 98-year-old who has the passion, vitality, and vibrancy of someone half her age - and get inspired to create the same. Enjoy! This episode is for you if: Are curious about a holistic approach to wellnessWant to know more about alternative practices for healingAre in the mood for endless gems of wisdomWant to learn more about Living Medicine Host: Raj JanaGuest: Dr. Gladys McGareyResources: Foundation for Living Medicine See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
