Patti Davis, from our Raleigh, NC community group, experienced unimaginable abuse and neglect as a child and as an adult. As a result, Patti absorbed lies deep into her heart and soul. The discussion centers around not labeling, but seeking out professional help and if you or someone you know might display the symptoms discussed in this episode please have them call 1-(800)-662-HELP (4357). In a heavier episode, M.K. revisits his struggles with depression and mental health and what he does to get out of those ruts. Perceived as a black cloud, M.K. experiences fits of depression, most notably during a friends' Christmas party, and does whatever he can to overcome the negative shift in mood. He uses a variety of techniques, including rephrasing personal beliefs into feelings of gratitude, using a unique kind of Tarot Card deck to heighten his intuition, and the philosophies of Will Smith in his autobiography "Will"; Viktor Frankl in his book "Man's Search for Meaning", and Campbell Walker of the YouTube channel struthless to find his way through the negative thoughts and come out better because he found suffering in the meaning. In this episode I chat to the amazing Jose Ophield about his outstanding 140lb weight loss. Its very common for women to talk about their experiences with fad diets, years of unhappiness, poor relationship with food and mental health but its rare to hear it from a male. So much respect for Jose. He has taken his life from 400lb & depressed to 218lb & the happiest he's ever been. I actually felt emotional listening to his story & I know SO many people will benefit from listening to how he turned his whole life around. Trigger warning: Eating disorders and Suicide@mr_oph

In this episode I'm going to remind you of a bible verse to help you fight depression. Hi, I'm Paul and you're listening to If You Forget. Isaiah 41:10 says “Don't be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” In this verse we find 5 different ways that God helps you fight depression. 1. Are you depressed because you're afraid? If so he reminds you that he's with you. Hebrews 13:5 promises that the Lord will never leave you or forsake you. You never face anything alone. God is with you wherever you go and through whatever you face. 2. Are you depressed because you're discouraged? If so he reminds you that he's your God. Psalm 42:11 says “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again - my Savior and my God!” To those watching at the cross, all seemed lost, but God turned the darkest moment into the brightest blessing. God works all things for your good. He did it then and he still does it today. 3. Are you depressed because you feel weak? If so he promises to strengthen you. Isaiah 40:29 says that “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” You may be weak but God is strong. So don't rely on your strength, rely on his. God loves you and will fight for you. 4. Are you depressed because you need help? If so he promises to provide Psalm 18:6 says “In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” God sees you. He hears you. He's with you and he promises to help you. 5. Are you depressed because you feel like everything is falling in on you? He promises to hold you up. Psalm 37:24 says “though they may stumble, they will not fall, for the Lord upholds them with his hand.” Life is hard, and you may stumble and struggle, but you won't fall. God is holding you, protecting you, and leading you. So be still you're safe in his love. Let me pray for you: Father, We give you our depression, our sadness, and our worries. We aren't strong enough to carry them but you are. Fill us with hope, joy and peace though your Son Jesus today and every day. Amen
