In this episode of Plan Sea, hosts Anna Madlener and Carbon to Sea's Senior Manager for Communications Danny Gawlowski record from Carbon to Sea's 2026 Annual Convening in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. They sit down with Fawn Sharp, and Francesca Hillery, and Ken Paul for a conversation on Indigenous knowledge systems, ocean climate solutions, and the future of ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE).In this episode, Anna and Danny explore how Indigenous knowledge can shape ocean-based carbon dioxide removal (oCDR). They're joined by Indigenous leaders: Ken Paul, former national Director of Fisheries with the Assembly of First Nations, current Principal of Pokiok Associates and member of the Wolastoqey Nation at Neqotkuk; Fawn Sharp, former president of the National Congress of American Indians, former president of the Quinault Indian Nation, and current President of Indigenous Greenhouse Gas Removal Commission; and Francesca Hillery, Director of Programs and Partnerships for Tribal Carbon Solutions and member of the Round Valley Tribes in California, to discuss the importance of meaningful partnership, sovereignty, and Indigenous science in climate innovation.Fawn, Francesca, and Ken reflect on the role of Indigenous knowledge systems in environmental stewardship, emphasizing that these systems are grounded in centuries of observation, ecological understanding, and relationships with the natural world, and paired with cutting-edge scientific capabilities. Sharp emphasizes there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to Indigenous engagement. Instead, meaningful relationships should be collaborative, equitable, and rooted in Indigenous-led science and governance. The conversation also explores the risks of developing oCDR without collaboration with Indigenous communities. Without Indigenous input, Paul and Hillery warn of premature scaling and the commodification of nature. They emphasized the opportunity for Indigenous knowledge to guide and influence this emerging field. We're excited to welcome interior designer Sara Hillery to the show! Based in Richmond, Virginia, Sara's firm blends function with one-of-a-kind decorative pieces to create story-driven rooms. Named a "Next Wave Designer" by House Beautiful and featured in Veranda and The Wall Street Journal, Sara joins Caroline and Liz to demystify "transitional" design and share her spirited approach to holiday decorating. Sara explains how she balances antiques with clean lines to create timeless spaces, her method for editing a room like an onion, and how she reinvents her holiday decorating theme every single year. She also shares her secret for keeping Christmas trees alive and her favorite way to spark conversation at dinner parties. Quick Decorating Takeaways: Peel the Onion: When defining your style, pin up everything you love on a board, then "peel back the layers of the onion" by removing items until you reach a harmonious balance of favorite pieces. Create a "Thread" Between Rooms: You don't need to paint every room the same color, but rooms should have equal "tonal weight" and a unifying thread (like a specific welt or texture) so you can move a chair from one room to another without it looking out of place. Hydrate Your Holiday: To keep fresh greenery and trees from drying out, soak garlands in water overnight before hanging them, and add a little Miracle-Gro to your Christmas tree water to keep it fresh and prevent needle drop. Antibiotics won't help if you have a cold or flu. Tuesday was European Antibiotic Awareness Day, and the Irish Pharmacy Union marked the occasion by urging us not to use them for viral infections, as they can cause more harm than good. It can mean they're less effective when you do need them, and can cause side effects like skin rashes, nausea, or diarrhoea. Alan Morrissey has been speaking about this with Feidhlim Hillery of Hillery's Pharmacy in Shannon town. Photo (c) Towfiqu Barbhuiya via Canva
Did you know that Hillery was forced to deal with rumours of his extramarital affair at a time when the Pope was visiting Ireland? Or that he was embroiled in political controversy when senior members of Fianna Fáil made calls to Áras an Uachtaráin to try and persuade the president not to dissolve the Dáil?In this episode of Think You Know...The Presidents?, Lise Hand and Flor Mac Carthy find the real scandals behind what was considered a largely uneventful presidency.

“Do you think AI will replace you?” A client once interrupted our session to ask me that question. At the time I was indignant Now, I think he might have been onto something. Maybe.A few years later, in 2023, Fiona Hillery released her viral article “AI Gurus Are Coming for the Witches.” It's been haunting me ever since I sat down to TALKTALKTALK with her a few months ago. We touch on AI in our conversation. Will it replace astrologers? Probably not. What about people learning astrology with ChatGPT? I think we both agree it's a terrible idea.Mostly it's two astrologers getting to know each other and trying to make sense of a radically new world — Hello, Outer Planets! It's one of those talks that sparks more questions than it answers, and I'm already hoping Fiona will join me again to dig even deeper.Want more? Welcome to an episode that's a bit different. Today, there are four of us talking and sharing experiences from the perspective of Foreign Service life – mainly as spouses and one contractor. If you happened to listen to episode 162 which was about fitness, you may recognize these amazing women – Hillery Midkiff, Susie Csorsz Brown, and Morgan Loosli. The four of us all met while living and working Sri Lanka, starting back in 2020. At this point, I am now living in the US, Hillery and Susie are still in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Morgan and her family are living in Shanghai. We recorded this conversation in the spring of 2024, and it got lost in my folders, so hence the delay in publication. As I listened to it recently, I appreciated the stories and decided it needed to be released into the wild!IF you are not connected with the Foreign Service, a warning that there are a number of acronyms that you will hear and likely not understand. The most frequent one is probably EFM which stands for Eligible Family Member – the term given to spouses and children who are considered dependents of Foreign Service Officers. Susie, Morgan, and I are in the role of EFMs. Hillery is a contracted officer and her husband is an EFM. Other than that, I think you'll be able to follow just fine despite the other acronyms. We are talking about careers, finding professional fulfillment, and unique challenges that are associated with living and moving internationally. Sometimes in countries where we have permission to work in the local economy, and sometimes in countries where we do not have permission to work locally. A certain number of jobs exist at our US Embassies and Consulates that are specific for EFM employment – Susie and Morgan will share about some of their experiences in those positions. I have chosen to develop my own business and have also worked on a part-time basis as a trainer for the Foreign Service Institute, the training center for the US Department of State. Susie, Morgan, Hillery – thank you for this conversation. Thanks for sharing the ups and downs and realities of this interesting life we live. I'm super grateful for your friendships and how we stay connected across the globe! (And quick note that Hillery does indeed drop the F bomb at one point in our conversation, so it's marked explicit. She'll appreciate the shoutout for that. You are welcome, Hillery!!)And with that, let me turn this over to our conversation that is graciously hosted by Susie.Make Life Less Difficult

I 2014 chaill 32 duine a bpost nuair a dhún The Cashel Palace. Ní raibh na daoine áitiúla sásta agus ní raibh siad ábalta aon úinéirí nua a fháil chun an t-óstán a ceannach. On episode #16, Jimmy speaks with Kristin Hillery from Voiceflow. They discuss:- Where content and brand overlap- Building a content strategy around a product- Why small teams and good vendors thrive together
My guest today is Sara Hillery, a designer in Richmond, VA. One of her great talents, in my opinion, is her ability to mix the qualities of elegance, something that's been a hallmark of southern homes for decades, with a feeling of energy. In other words, she is able to combine youthfulness with wisdom and grace, as well as a maximalist's penchant for detail with the sensibilities of minimalism. You'll have to go to the show notes page on our website to really see what I'm talking about after you hear the conversation!
In this episode, we explore the life and legacy of Hillery Thomas Stewart, an obscure figure in history who managed to purchase his own freedom and acquire over 500 acres of land before the end of slavery. We discuss the impact this would have had on generations of Black people, providing them with opportunities for wealth and stability. We also delve into the systematic ways white institutions took land from Black farmers during the Jim Crow era and the oppressive reality of sharecropping. Finally, we examine the full story of George Floyd's life, tracing his roots through generations of struggle and injustice in America.Visit us at blackhistoryforwhitepeople.com.Buy our book on Amazon!$5/month supports us at patreon.com/blackhistoryforwhitepeople.Check us out on Twitter @BHforWP and Instagram @BlackHistoryForWhitePeople or feel free to email us at hello@blackhistoryforwhitepeople.com.Our Sponsors:* Check out Factor 75 and use my code blackhistory50 for a great deal: https://www.factor75.com/Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/black-history-for-white-people/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Tony founded Harlem Grown to address the health and academic challenges facing public elementary school students in Harlem. In 2011, Tony began volunteering with a local elementary school and was witnessing first-hand the lack of resources allocated to the schools and the poor nutrition of students. He noticed an abandoned and overrun community garden across the street from the school. Tony rallied volunteers and raised the funds needed to transform the lot into a thriving urban farm, kicking off Harlem Grown's first-ever growing season. The first year, Tony worked with 400 students to plant 400 seedlings. He watched as students transformed their eating habits and learned skills like patience, teamwork, and responsibility. The first season, they grew 38 lbs of produce. Six years later, in 2017, Harlem Grown has expanded to partner with five local Harlem schools, reached over 4,900 youth, composted over 20,000 lbs of food scraps and grew over 5,400 pounds of fruits and vegetables that are then distributed to families-in-need throughout the community. His work in the community has impacted more than just the youth, Tony has done his part to help transform Harlem community through the power of growing food and building healthy relationships. Understanding the use of cloud, its context, and how things are quickly changing is top of mind for many companies today. Safety of information and management of risks are paramount when trying to keep up with the changes, while also making sure to not slow down important and necessary workflows. When it comes to compliance and security, Hillery Hunter has visibility across the challenges and success of some of the largest companies across multiple industries. In this episode, we interview the GM of Industry Clouds and Solutions and CTO at IBM Cloud to learn more about storing sensitive data in the cloud. Hillery explains how radical cloud models can work to your advantage, including co-design and approaching compliance as a group. During the discussion, she names some challenges of cloud adoption, then describes how to overcome those barriers. Hillery also describes the best cloud adoption practices she's seen over the course of her career, and why these transformations are so important to the success of a business. ---------Key Quotes:“It's not just whether or not somebody has a cloud certification, right? It's the context in which they're doing their work and it's the skills of the CISO organization, it's the skill of the risk management organization, et cetera, in understanding the cloud context and how all those things are changing and have to be measured differently as well.”“Make sure that public cloud is an appropriate landing place even for the most sensitive data. It is possible to take this security and compliance and put it into structured programs and ways of protecting things on the cloud. So that all of these inherent barriers to adoption can be overcome.”“When the metric is too narrow, and placed only on the IT organization for the outcomes of a cloud migration, you miss the opportunity to be talking about end to end value creation… When you're doing that, then everyone understands that the cloud migration and digital transformation is in service of a higher level objective, and it's not just trying to save money on the HR system or something else like that.”“When you make a public cloud choice, industry cloud contextualizes the requirements of that industry. It includes things like security and compliance, and enables the public cloud to be a safe enough and compliant enough place for you to grab other content that lives there. It also allows you to move your data there and trust that you are still upholding your responsibilities.”---------Time stamps:2:00 Barriers to cloud adoption3:00 Managing security and controls4:50 Cloud migration pitfalls5:20 Cloud adoption can be transformative7:30 Committees can lead a successful cloud deployment9:50 Creating an objective for cloud adoption11:20 Making the cloud a safe space for data13:20 Dealing with disruptors15:15 Exploring what's available in cloud17:00 Establishing trust in the industry19:40 Taking it to the board20:40 Future opportunities for cloud---------Links:Hillery Hunter on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hillery-hunter-97962a14/CIO Exchange on Twitter: https://twitter.com/vmwcioexchangeYadin Porter de León on Twitter: https://twitter.com/porterdeleon [Subscribe to the Podcast] On Apple Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cio-exchange-podcast/id1498290907 For more podcasts, video and in-depth research go to https://www.vmware.com/cio---------Keywords: cio, cio exchange, VMware, innovation, leadership, DevOps, Developer, operations, IT, information technology, business, technology, cto, cloud, public cloud, privacy, security, cloud adoption

In this episode of Inside Jobs, Hillery Shay's vocation becomes her occupation. Born to “the world's greatest single mom,” Hillery grew up in the Boston ‘burbs and found her voice through photography. She followed her camera from art school to covering high-profile stories for the Associated Press, including the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon. From there, she made a seamless transition in house. Today, Hillery leads the marketing and communications arm of Children's Minnesota. While her day-to-day has changed over time, she's still a self-professed creative at heart.——This podcast is supported by the In-House Agency Forum and hosted by Robert Berkeley from EKCS.
