Their annual festival was set to kick-off on March 22, 2020, but was postponed to the fall due to the global pandemic. Philadelphia Pride was subsequently postponed, and out of that, PrideFLIX was born. Rooted in its 26-year history, qFLIX proudly continues its tradition of sharing the stories of LGBTQ+ people. The virtual film festival will launch on Monday, June 1 2020, and promises a stellar line up of LGBTQ+ documentaries, feature films, short films, and web series. One of the highlights will be a screening is that of gay writer/director Mike Mosallam’s rom-com, “Breaking Fast.” The film stars out actor Haaz Sleiman as Mo, a heartbroken gay Muslim who meets — and eats with — Kal (Michael Cassidy) during Ramadan. Because the Holy Month forbids impure thoughts and activities, Mo is forced to practice self-control. Mosallam’s clever conceit allows Mo and Kal to fall in love as their relationship develops over numerous romantic meals and dates. Sleiman and Mosallam, who were to be honored for their work at the fest in March, have been invited to participate in a post-screening talkback via zoom on June 29 along with Seth Hauer, the film’s producer. Several of the films will include talkbacks with filmmakers and/or talent. In addition, PrideFLIX is planning a weekly moderated discussion of specific titles on Sunday nights in June to help foster a sense of community during this period of social distancing. Ticket prices will range from $7-$10 per viewing, with $1 of each viewing going towards local LGBTQ+ non-profits. There will also be an option to purchase a festival badge to view all the films. Visit https://www.qflixphilly.com/qflix-presents-prideflix-the-virtual-pride-film-festival/ 5) William Way LGBT Community Center Benefit Kick-Off Starts June 1, 2021 Sofitel Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Square 120 S. 17th St. Philadelphia, PA 19103 215-569-8300 Every year in June, Sofitel Philadelphia announces a year-round benefit for a local LGBTQ charity. The pain of suffering through the pandemic, the shifts in our relationship with technology, the immense amount of loss, the calls to action, and our strength to carry on as a community are all themes explored by artists of this show. During this long period of uncertainty, there were times we found comfort in the care of others, through loved ones, and through members of our communities. We’ve seen the artistic landscape change completely, with in-person shows adjusting, shifting to online formats, and many artists spending more time at home, embracing new mediums. There is no singular way to describe this past year’s traumatic experience just as there is no singular way to depict or process such events. It is together as a community that we can begin to rebuild and maintain a renewed sense of hope. Criticizing someone's superficial choices is different than criticizing someone for being racist.

This episode we present a series of interviews around the Black is Beautiful Beer Collaboration Project. Over 900 breweries representing every state in the US and over 17 countries around the world have joined the effort to raise awareness for the injustices people of color face daily and raise funds for police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged. We start off the episode with the man who started the project, Marcus Baskerville, Founder and Head Brewer at Weathered Souls Brewing in San Antonio, Texas. Next, we are joined by Timothy White, Jr., one of the founders of the first wholly black owned brewery in Pennsylvania, Harris Family Brewing in Harrisburg. Harris Family has joined in the project with several brew day collaborations with Love City Brewing, Two Locals Brewing, and Tröegs. Finally, we catch up with our old friend, Sam Masotto, owner of Bonn Place Brewing in Bethlehem, PA. Bonn Place brewed their version of the Black is Beautiful beer with another local, minority owned brewery, Country Club Brewing and has committed to donating the proceeds to black-owned small businesses. Part of this project is encouraging breweries to commit to the long term work of promoting equality in their businesses. Though we’re not brewing a beer, we are committed to making a concerted effort to do our part to promote diversity and representation in the world of beer. If you would like to learn how you can help support the black community in the struggle for justice and equality, Black Lives Matter has provided a comprehensive list of resources here: https://blacklivesmatters.carrd.co/

Finally whether you're a brewing out of ideas or someone looking to start a new brewery, Adam debuts The Reardon Method for coming up with new beer names and it's totally not Mad Libs, so don't say that. Another pod in our back yard in the City of Brotherly Love, we set up shop at Philadelphia’s Love City Brewing with owners Kevin and Melissa. We talk about the journey to opening the brewery, the history of the amazing building that houses it, the Philly brewing community, and more. Dan lead with the (now somewhat old) news about more craft brewery acquisitions. In Happy Fun Time, Wayne hosted a round of Libation or Fabrication: GABF Edition. (The punishment this time around was provided by one of our patrons, Jill Chivers. Check out our Patreon to find out how you can watch the losers suffer through it.) In Know Your Beers, Steph gave us the scoop on Smoked Porters. All the while we sipped on the amazing beers Love City has to offer. Do you love Beer Busters? Of course you do! The craft beer scene has plenty of bros waxing on about hops, but more and more women are making beer, too. And if they’re Love City Brewing’s Melissa Walter, they’re making change while they’re at it.Melissa is the co-founder of Philly’s own Love City Brewing, a vocal supporter of getting more women into the beer industry, and an advocate for safer, more inclusive bars everywhere. She joins us to talk about how she went from therapist to brewery owner, why she prioritized covering employee benefits and creating a philanthropic program from day one, and what it looks like to build a bar where everyone feels welcome. Yes, of course, we need to make money, we need to keep the doors open, we need to keep the lights on. But beyond that, I’m like, why do you need five million dollars this year? I’m not saying that making money is terrible, but I’m saying you can build these things in, grow a little more slowly, be a little more conscious... You live in this place, you should take care of it.—Melissa Walter, co-founder of Love City BrewingWe talk about: How she’s creating community for women in beer. “There are women in the industry, we just have to find them and bring them together.” Why diversity always matters. “I think any industry should look like the community in which it is involved.” What it looks like to make accessibility a foundational requirement. “Our front entrance is a ramp; everybody comes in the same way: you go up the ramp, done. So, people who use a chair or don’t use a chair, same entrance, same accessibility as everybody else. All of our bathrooms are gender-neutral, so anybody can use any bathroom whatsoever.” Why all Love City staff go through sexual harassment intervention training. “The things that I’ve read from other places are that if they do take advantage of this training it’s like they’re admitting something is wrong. And I’m like, ‘ah…no? You’re doing the thing to make sure things don’t go wrong!’” Why Love City decided to give back from day one. “You live in this place, you should take care of it.” Links Lovecitybrewing.comLove City on Twitter and InstagramMelissa on Instagram Pink Boots SocietySafe Bars Philly

Travis Sherry is a “Professional Traveler,” and that title really does cover about as many categories as you might expect. From his travel podcast Extra Pack of Peanuts to his new app Jetto for finding flight deals (and just about everything in between), Travis has made a name for himself as a travel hacking expert and internet entrepreneur. Yet despite his location independent status, Travis calls Philadelphia home, and that’s where we met up for today’s episode. Being as big a fan of beer as I am, Travis and I “rendezbrewed” at Love City Brewing just north of Philly’s Center City. We cover everything from airline travel hacks to drinking Eastern European moonshine in Montenegro, and as a new dad, Trav even shares some tips on continuing to traveling internationally with children. But eventually all roads lead back to Philly, so make sure to tune in if you want to get a local’s take on the best cheesesteaks around town. After you listen, make sure to head over to PubcastWorldwide.com to leave a comment and sign-up for the monthly “Brewsletter.” Cheers!
Chris and Leigh-Ann speak to Deborah Bradley, the founder of Simply Blessed Cakes, an awesome cake design company that operates out of The Enterprise Center's "Center for Culinary Enterprises." They speak about Deborah's journey from rock bottom start at a shelter with $16 to her current set up at the CCE, her plans for the future, and her talent for creating these immaculate designs by hand. For food news, Chris brings up the troubling fact that much of the aid FEMA has sent to Puerto Rico in response to Hurricane Maria has been snack items like Chef Boyardee, not wholly nutritious food. They also highlight Love City Brewing, which opened in Spring at 10th and Hamilton. They make awesome beers and have food truck on site regularly.
