Sarah McDowell (The SEO Mindset Podcast) and Natasha Willings (Limitless Learning education services) join Flixwatcher to review Sarah's choice How to Blow Up a Pipeline. How to Blow Up a Pipeline (2022) is action-thriller inspired by the book of the same name by Andreas Malm that explores ideas on climate activism and sabotage to create change. The film is directed by Daniel (Cam - do check out our Fixwatcher episode on this!) Goldhaber and stars relatively unknown actors Ariela Barer, Kristine Froseth, Lukas Gage, Forrest Goodluck, Sasha Lane, Jayme Lawson, Marcus Scribner, Jake Weary, and Irene Bedard.   The film version follows a fictional group of eight people who are brought together to blow up an oil pipeline at two key locations. Their motivations range from being directly affected by the actions of the oil company or to be climate activists. They all feel that non-disruptive action is not sufficient and are prepared to risk prison to carry out the plan.   Recommendability scores for How to Blow Up a Pipeline were pretty strong, everyone agreed it was an important subject and opened up interesting conversations on climate activism. Scores were lower for repeat viewing but due to its punchy runtime and fast moving narrative it scores a very respectable 3.51 overall. HOW I LEARNED TO FLY, beautifully recounts the story of two African-American teenage brothers who suddenly find themselves on their own after being mysteriously abandoned by their parents. Deeply haunted by the mental and physical abuse inflicted by their father (Wu-Tang Clan's Cliff “Method Man” Smith), elder brother Daniel (Marcus Scribner, ABC's Black-ish) is determined to keep their lives from falling apart. He maintains a daily routine, works as a dishwasher and does his best to keep a roof over their heads. Younger brother Eli (Lonnie Chavis, NBC's This Is Us) struggles to cope with the absence of his mother, leaving her voicemail messages in search of answers. Embarking on a journey of survival and self-discovery, they uncover moments of beauty, newfound meaning and enduring love that strengthen their bond despite the uncertain road ahead. HOW I LEARNED TO FLY is a poignant story of determination and resilience in the face of profound adversity. Director / Writer Simon Steuri (Vandals) stops by to talk about the challenges of making the jump from commercials and videos into his feature film debut, working with a terrific cast that includes upcoming actors like Lonnie Davis, Marcus Scribner, and Michele Selene Ang, as well as, veteran actors Clifford “Method Man” Smith, and Cedric the Entertainer For more go to: filmmovement.com/how-i-learned-to-fly

Marcus Scribneris an American actor. He is best known for starring as Andre Johnson Jr. on the ABC sitcom Black-ish and voicing the character Bow in the critically acclaimed Netflix animated series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.Scribner was born and raised in Los Angeles. His name is derived from Roman and Greek mythology, like those of his father Troy and sister Athena. Scribner also has a dog named Zeus whom he adopted as a puppy to commemorate his first professional acting job.[3] Similar to his character on Black-ish, his father is black while his mother is biracial (black and white).[4] His father's family is from Los Angeles while his maternal grandmother is from England.[5][6] Scribner attended an Elementary School where most of the kids were Jewish.[4] He began studying acting at age seven.[7] At the time he was very shy and didn't have any hobbies. In addition to sports, Scribner took an acting class and immediately fell in love with it. From that point, Scribner took acting classes on the weekends.[8] Scribner later admitted that at the time, he was afraid of getting injured.[5] Despite that, he enjoys sports such as basketball and lacrosse and also loves video games.[9] When he was in kindergarten, Scribner hit his head on concrete while playing basketball and had to get five staples.[10] Scribner started playing the clarinet in fifth grade.[11] Though Scribner started at public high school in 2014, by early 2015, he was enrolled in home school to accommodate his work schedule

Walter is trying to let go of a previous relationship while his wife Esther struggles with a new country, culture and a husband who seems distant. (Can religion help her cope?) Their daughter Sylvia is a dancer just like her father, and while she also finds her new life difficult, she bravely starts to explore the city and show herself through dance. Today on The Neil Haley Show, The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Marcus Scribner of ABC's Blackish. Dre's son Andre Jr. asked to be called "Andy," and then announced that like his schoolmates, he wanted a bar mitzvah for his 13th birthday -- and their family isn't Jewish. When the boy says he wants to play for his school's field hockey team instead of basketball, Dre has to wonder: would he rather Andre play basketball because it is a black-ish sport? Or could it be Dre wants his namesake to like the sport he prefers?RELATED VIDEO: actor biography A fourth-generation Los Angeles native, Marcus Scribner marked his arrival on January 7 in Cedars-Sinai, the same hospital his mother was born. Legacy has always run strong in his family, beginning with his name. His father, Troy, garnered his name through his father's love of Greek and Roman history and mythology. He continued this tradition with his own children, Marcus and his sister, Athena. At age 10, when Marcus booked his first big guest star on the television show Castle, he celebrated by getting his first puppy, a feisty beagle he named Zeus. In September 2014, he landed his first series regular playing Andre Jr., on ABC's black-ish. The show went on to become the highest-rated new comedy of the season. Marcus has garnered an NAACP Image Award for the show. And it has been honored with the prestigious Peabody Award, multiple NAACP Awards and several Emmy and SAG nominations. He has always loved animation. It was his dream come true to voice the rambunctious dinosaur Buck in Pixar's The Good Dinosaur and to become a part of the DreamWorks family in the animated series Home: Adventures with Tip & Oh, airing on Netflix. As well as another big classic animation project with DreamWorks releasing in 2018.

First Hand First Look..."black-ish": Wednesdays, 9:30-10:00 p.m. ABC's new family comedy, "black-ish," takes a fun yet bold look at one man's determination to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family. The series stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and special guest star Laurence Fishburne. Like any parents, Andre "Dre" (Anthony Anderson) and Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) Johnson want to give their children the best. But their offspring's childhood is turning out to be much different than theirs. They now realize at least two things: there is a price to pay for giving their children more than what they ever had, and these loving parents are totally unprepared for the fallout. Dre considers himself the family patriarch and when he looks at his life - he sees a beautiful wife and four kids living happily in their colonial home in the 'burbs. But when he looks a little closer -- have the trappings of success brought too much assimilation for this black family? The world he sees has a much different lens than the one he would like his family to look through. Jade Harrell with creator Kenya Barris in an enlightening and candid conversation about this colorful new series. In this episode you will find out: * Why Kenya chose the name black-ish * Why he wouldn't change the name despite the backlash. * What statement Kenya is trying to make? * Why are some people offput before previewing the program? * Is Kenya trying to define what black IS? * How is black culture handled in black society. * How "black-ish" is just as much about socio-economics as it is race. *What is the BIG part of the purpose of the show that hits close to home? "black-ish" stars Anthony Anderson as Andre "Dre" Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson, Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre Johnson, Jr., Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson and special guest star, Laurence Fishburne. "black-ish" was created by Kenya Barris and is executive-produced by Barris, Larry Wilmore, Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Helen Sugland and E. Brian Dobbins. The series is produced by ABC Studios.
