Paul shares that our minds are difficult places to find God, for the mind sets up so much resistance, and the world reinforces this. God will ensure that we find our way, that all souls will find their way. Mary reminds us that we have a celestial angel guide who walks with us as we progress on this path. This is a gift from God, to help us and to guide us.  Go to divinelovesanctuary.com to learn more about God's Divine Love. In Episode 34,  we're doing something a little different. From the last sessions, Tom May has pulled together a matrix that he is now using in his work and life. We thought that we might share it with you and see how you might refine it with us. Tom was inspired to combine the original metacognitive work by our mother Mary May with the new work that I have been doing with Jeremy Johnson on Jean Gebser's book, Ever Present Origin. You can download Tom's matrix from our website at dynamic competence.com under Season 3 podcasts, Session 34 if you want to look at it. Think of a box with 3 columns and 3 rows. At the top of the columns three of Gebser's structures of consciousness, Magic, Mythic, and Mental are listed. At the end of the rows three metacognitive perspectives, Instinctive, Intentional, and Integral are arranged top to bottom. For this podcast, Tom is presenting these structures of consciousness and perspectives from the unique way that he processes this information. Of course, this is only one way of looking at it. Next time, we will dive deeper into what is inside of this matrix. Take a listen and see what you get from it.

Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.  And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”  Luke 1:41b–43What an honor it would be to have our Blessed Mother, the mother of Jesus, come to us for a visit.  Elizabeth was keenly aware of this honor and, as a result, she cried out in an inspired way acknowledging that fact.  Though this was a unique gift given to Elizabeth, to have the mother of her Lord come to her, we must understand that we are all equally blessed by the opportunity to daily invite the presence of the Mother of God into our lives.Mother Mary is the Queen of all Saints, but she is also the Queen of all sinners and Queen of those striving for holiness.  She is the Mother of All the Living and the Mother of the Church.  In God's providence, she continues to carry out her unique role of visiting those in need on a daily basis.  She does so in a way that is far more profound and transformative than in the case of Elizabeth.  Mother Mary's visits to us, her children, now takes place in the order of grace. What does it mean when we say that our Blessed Mother visits us in the order of grace?  It means that our relationship with her is based on the divine will and plan of God.  It means we are able to have a relationship with her by which she communicates to us countless mercies from her Son.  It means that she becomes the most powerful mediatrix of grace for us that the world has ever known.  It means that the effect she has in our lives is deep, profound, transformative and intimately personal. The difficult part about a relationship with our Blessed Mother is that it must take place on a spiritual and interior level rather than on a physical and exterior one.  However, even though this is the case, we should not think that this means we are less capable of knowing her and loving her.  In fact, the relationship we are now able to have with our Blessed Mother by grace is far deeper and more profound than the relationship Elizabeth was able to have with her on account of the Visitation.  Reflect, today, upon your relationship with the Mother of God.  She visited Elizabeth long ago and now desires to visit your soul so as to bring you the grace and mercy of her Son.  Seek to establish this beautiful relationship with her in the order of grace.  Invite her in, listen to her, be open to the grace she brings to you and rejoice with Elizabeth that the mother of your Lord would come to you.Dearest Mother Mary, I love you and consecrate my life to You, trusting in your motherly care and mediation.  Help me, dear Mother, to be open to all that you desire to bring to me from your Son, Jesus.  I am honored and humbled that you would care for me and desire to bring to me the mercy of the Heart of your Son Jesus.  Mother Mary, pray for us.  Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2022 My Catholic Life! In this episode of Author to Author, Dr. Cynthia Toolin-Wilson interviews Dennis McGeehan on his book The Diaries of Joseph and Mary (May 16, 2022)The Bible in Matthew and Luke briefly relates how Mary became pregnant with Jesus, how Joseph took her as his wife and then how Jesus got lost in the Temple at age twelve. A few short pages span the time from before his birth to age twelve, but is there more? The Early Church Fathers thought so. Saint Jerome, Saint Athanasius, Saint Augustine and others gave sermons to their flocks on details left out of Scripture. These stories have been mostly lost to the modern Christian but now are brought to life in The Diaries of Joseph and Mary.https://www.amazon.com/Diaries-Joseph-Mary-Dennis-McGeehan-ebook/dp/B00QO04F06/

Reading is delivered by Jane Valerie Untung (from the Church of Santo Lukas in Jakarta, Indonesia) and meditation delivered by Ryan Ko (from the Church of Santo Yohanes Bosco in Jakarta, Indonesia). Zephaniah 3: 14-18a; Rs psalm Isaiah 12: 2-3.4bcd.5-6; Luke 1: 39-56. THE SISTERHOOD VISIT The theme for our meditation today is: The Sisterhood Visit. Whatever type or form of a brotherhood or sisterhood visit we might have often done, we can say that those involved in the meeting are surely filled with a positive atmosphere and energy. People who meet with the aim of finding fault in other person or other party, or provoking conflict and even beating the drum of war, it is not a brotherhood and sisterhood meeting or gathering. We always believe that the visit of a sister or brother will, of course, create a brotherly or sisterly encounter and fellowship. Those who meet as brothers or sisters understand very well the significance of these kinds of encounter. Those who are not siblings, the meaning of brotherhood or sisterhood also often show how they need each other. Our holy scripture contains a lot of events of meeting between brothers and sisters. One of those which we celebrate today as our feast is the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her sister Elisabeth. We know that every brotherhood or sisterhood visit has a good and noble purpose. During these visits and encounters, the spirit of being brother or sister toward one another really binds them strongly. Their blood relations, their moments of solidarity or sharing of love from one to another truly become sort of spiritual richness which is to strengthen and to witness their fellowship. In the occasion of the visit of the Blessed Virgin Mary to her sister Elisabeth, that event demonstrates to us something higher than the aspect of encounter between sisters. If at the aspects of blood relations and solidarity between persons can bring about kindness and sharing of intimacy as brothers and sisters, at the visit of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the outcome had actually risen to the point of fullness of grace where the intervention of God the almighty was at work. This is the level of holiness. At this point it is the Holy Spirit who works and drives all human activities. Elisabeth, who first received the work of the Holy Spirit in to her life, was so delighted to welcome her sister Mary, who was filled with the Holy Spirit, then she became the Mother of God who was conceiving the Son of God. This sisterly encounter of Mary and Elisabeth really gives us inspiration that any brotherly or sisterly relationship animated by the Holy Spirit is very important for us the followers of Christ. The Holy Spirit animates our various visits and encounters when their nature is sacred, such as the activities of renewal of ourselves, repentance, forgiveness, giving comfort and consolation of those in trouble, companionship to those who are at lost, cooperation to overcome some common difficulties, and unity of faith in grateful praise the Lord. We need to be always open in the involvement of the Holy Spirit in every visit that we do as brothers or sisters. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... O Lord Jesus Christ, bless us to be always obedient to the guidance of Your Holy Spirit. Glory to the Father ... In the name of the Father ... --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/media-la-porta/message

Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.” Luke 1:39–42The beautiful feast we celebrate today depicts two miraculous pregnancies. One came about by the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit. The other was the miraculous conception in the womb of a woman who was advanced in years. The Scripture passage quoted above presents us with the initial encounter of Mary and Elizabeth as they greeted each other upon Mary’s arrival. Mary had traveled a long distance to be with her cousin for the last few months of Elizabeth’s pregnancy. And upon greeting Elizabeth, another miraculous event occurred. The baby in the womb of Elizabeth, Saint John the Baptist, “leaped for joy.” Thus, even prior to his birth, John began to fulfill his unique mission of preparing the way for the Lord. He did so at that moment by inspiring his own mother, Elizabeth, with a knowledge of the divine presence of the Savior within the womb of Mary.Consider, especially, the conversations that these two holy women would have shared during their months together. Though we are given only a small insight into their initial conversation from the Scriptures, we can be certain that this was but a small sampling of what they would have discussed in much prayerful detail. In particular, their conversations would have contained a mutual sharing of the spiritual gift of joy.Joy is much more than an emotion. It is spiritual in nature. It is not only an experience of something fun, it’s the experience of realizing the action of God in your life. Seeing God at work in wonderful ways leads to gratitude and rejoicing. This joy produces a strength and energy that is contagious and uplifting. We must all strive to see the hand of God at work in our own lives so that our focus upon His divine actions will produce joy also. We need joy. We need to be strengthened by this gift so that we will be encouraged and strengthened as we daily strive to fulfill His will.Reflect, today, upon the witness of joy that these two holy women give us. Know that you are called to share in the same joy as you humbly turn your attention to the ways in which God has blessed you. If you find that you lack joy in life, then consider where you allow your mind to wander throughout the day. Do you dwell on the past, on hurts, on problems and the like? If so, these thoughts will undoubtedly lead to depression and possibly even despair. Try to turn your mind to the action of God in your life. See the many blessings you have been given and savor those divine actions. Doing so will lead you to rejoice with Saint Elizabeth and our Blessed Mother. My holy infant Jesus, as You dwelt in the sacred womb of Your own dear mother, Your presence caused much rejoicing in her heart and in the hearts of Elizabeth and John. Help me to see Your presence in our world and in my life so that I, too, will be filled with the joy of You constantly coming to me. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2021 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Used with permission via RSS feed.

This episode explores how we absorb new information and the different ways that we can respond to that information. We will discuss three basic cognitive levels, Instinctual, Intentional, and Integral and how the perspectives that arise in each of these levels can affect what we see and think about new information. Both Thomas May and I wanted to interview our mother, Mary May as she has been a major source of metacognitive concepts for us and has provided the foundation that we have continued to rub up against as we have grown into practicing adults. Its these ideas that she has published with Jim November, Ph.D. that have influenced both Tom and me the most. We wanted to share these basic concepts so that we can expand our discussions in the coming podcasts to talk deeper about the Art of Dynamic Competence. Thomas May joins me to talk with Mary May to explore about how we look at the world and most importantly how we respond to what we see and hear, especially when that information doesn't meet our expectations and runs counter to our maps of the way we think the world should be.

At the top of my "woodworking things that intimidate me to tears" list you'll find woodcarving somewhere in the top 5, definitely far below "magnifying glass pyrography". Considering I took the plunge not so long ago and faced my fear of woodturning, and currently I'm alive and not noticeably maimed (thanks to tricky camera angles at least), I figure it's time to start knocking one or two more off the list. Thankfully this year Mary May returned to Woodworking in America and taught a couple of classes on woodcarving. Before I go any further, if you're not already familiar with Mary she's an amazing woodcarver who's taken the time to not only teach her art form at conferences like this or in the occasional class at a woodworking school but more importantly (as far as I'm concerned) she's taken the next step and opened an online school too. But more about that below… The two classes Mary was teaching this year were "Carving Life into Leaves" and "Linenfold Carving". The footage for today's post is from the linenfold class and has been edited to show more of the actual tool work and even Mary's body positioning at the bench to give you a feel for what you could learn if you were to sign up for her online classes. This isn't meant to be a sales pitch by any means, but considering what I learned just from sitting in the audience and watching I can only imagine what I'd learn if I were to start following the lessons with my tools in hand repeating the action she's teaching on the videos. Do I see myself becoming a full on woodcarver down the road? Probably not. But it would be really cool to feel confident enough with my tools and a basic knowledge of the craft to occasionally embellish a component or two on a project! For more information about Mary May including her online school visit www.marymaycarving.com. And if you join, you'll also find this linenfold project as one of the many available lessons to watch and learn about. Help support the show - please visit our advertisers

At the top of my "woodworking things that intimidate me to tears" list you'll find woodcarving somewhere in the top 5, definitely far below "magnifying glass pyrography".
