Bill Frisell is here to discuss his new sextet record, In My Dreams, the different American and European cities he has lived in over the years and how they might inform his musical practice, his 75th birthday and the March 2026 tour dates that mark the occasion, a dream about music and its possibilities that he had 30 years ago and is still processing, the lessons mistakes teach us, how film noir scores and the work of Alfred Hitchcock film composer Bernard Hermann may have found their way to In My Dreams, the time he saw Bob Dylan and the Hawks in 1966 and why Dylan might be into Bill's latest record, what inspired him to put together the In My Dreams sextet, future plans, and much more.EVERY OTHER COMPLETE KREATIVE KONTROL EPISODE IS ONLY ACCESSIBLE TO PATREON SUPPORTERS STARTING AT $6/MONTH. 曲目单: (04:05) 坂本慎太郎 - Dear Grandpa (07:03) Mitski - Where's My Phone? Buck 65 makes a rare reappearance to discuss his excellent new album, Do Not Bend, musical brevity, Joe Pernice inspiring him to start an insightful Substack, writing jokes and stories that wind up as rhymes, befriending the late great Biz Markie and hanging out backstage at a Beastie Boys show, meeting Lou Reed but being low key about their creative kinship, acquiring the four-track he once used in the mid-1990s to create new music but also incorporating Ableton, obvious and oblique pop culture references, when you don't know where the words come from, why it's healthy to listen to your own work, difficult time signatures for rappers, a loving celebration of vinyl record culture, many future plans, a hidden phone number, and much more. On this week's show, we spend quality time with superlative new records from Lucinda Williams and Langhorne Slim, spin fresh tracks from Snail Mail, Courtney Barnett and King Tuff, and fight the power with Bruce Springsteen, Billy Bragg & Low Cut Connie. All this and much, much less! Debts No Honest Man Can Pay is over 2 rock-solid hours of musical eclectica & other noodle stories. The show started in 2003 at WHFR-FM (Dearborn, MI), moved to WGWG-FM (Boiling Springs, NC) in 2006 & Plaza Midwood Community Radio (Charlotte, NC) in 2012, with a brief pit-stop at WLFM-FM (Appleton, WI) in 2004.
New episode of Creatives on WRFI, Youth Radio Project volunteers Eli and Will have a conversation with Brendan Canty, long time drummer of fiercely independent post-hardcore band Fugazi.Along with Ian McKaye, Guy Piciatto, and Joe Lally, Brendan and Fugazi helped define the sound of indie rock in the 1990's. After releasing six albums and relentlessly touring (all the while, doing everything in their power to not ever charge more than $5 to see them live), Fugazi went on indefinite hiatus in 2003. Brendan has continued performing and is currently part of the jazz fusion band, The Messthetics, along with Fugazi bandmate Joe Lally. This CREATIVES interview with Brendan Canty hosted by the Youth Radio Project aired on Wednesday November 5 at 5pm and Sunday November 9 2025 at 3pm. The Messthetics started as a kind of post-punk instrumental trio including former Fugazi bandmates Brendan Canty on drums and Joe Lally on bass with guitarist and composer Anthony Pirog. In 2023, they brought saxophonist James Brandon Lewis into the ensemble, and the result is a fascinating quartet in which musicians from widely divergent backgrounds find common ground. The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis are at the Cedar Cultural Center in Minneapolis Saturday night, September 6th. Drummer Brendan Canty and saxophonist James Brandon Lewis discuss the music in this conversation with Jazz88's Peter Solomon.

Guitarist Sonny Sharrock was one of the most forward-thinking guitarists coming out of the '60s, and his music stayed on the cutting edge throughout his long career. His credits include Miles Davis' Jack Johnson and Herbie Mann—next to whom he performed in Questlove's 2021 documentary, Summer of Soul—and his tunes have been covered by Santana and the Messthetics. But it's as a bandleader and collaborator where Sharrock cut his wildest recordings. As groundbreaking as Sharrock's music could be, his distorted tone and melodic tunes helped bring rock listeners into the jazz tent. Our callers let us know how much Sharrock meant to them and why he's one of the “top guys of all time.” Episode sponsored by Focusrite: focusrite.comFollow Nick: https://www.instagram.com/nickmillevoiFollow Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jasonshadrickGet at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.comCall/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. The boys are back to take on four more entries from the New York Times' Best of 2024 list and Mike especially is happy with these selections. "Spiritual Jazz" leaves a imprint on several of this episode's albums and bastard number 2 loves it. Pat meanwhile is relieved that Blue Note's entry is the best yet, in his opinion, by a rising young artist, but he finds one of the other entries just an almighty racket. Melissa Aldana – ECHOES OF THE INNER PROPHET; Frank London – SPIRIT STRONGER THAN BLOOD; THE MESSTHETICS AND JAMES BRANDON LEWIS; Isaiah Collier – THE ALMIGHTY.

Full Rig Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/dixie-dregsSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeSteve Morse and Andy West are legendary players. In addition to co-founding the Dixie Dregs together in Augusta, Georgia, in 1970, both virtuosos have colorful personal resumes. Guitar giant Morse's is more high-profile. He remains the leader of the Steve Morse Band, who opened the Dregs's late April show at Nashville's CMA Theater, where this Rundown was filmed, with 45 minutes of smart shred. He's also been a member of Kansas and Deep Purple, as well as another instrumental powerhouse, Flying Colors.Besides his tenure in the Dregs, West has recorded with Vinnie Moore, the Steve Morse Band, Paul Barrere, and Henry Kaiser, with whom he's been a member of the Mistakes, Crazy Backwards Alphabet, and Five Time Surprise, which also includes Messthetics guitarist Anthony Pirog. (Full disclosure: I recorded a version of Steppenwolf's “The Pusher” with Kaiser and West as part of Kaiser's Moods & Modes of Halloween video quarterly in 2023.)The Music City show was classic Dixie Dregs, with more than two hours of high-wire playing, all anchored by the bold melodies that mark their compositions. Joined by longtime Dregs drummer Rod Morgenstein, violinist Allen Sloan, and keyboard player Steve Davidowski, the concert was an affirmation of Morse and West's vitality and musical partnership after sharing stages for more than 50 years. In the video, Steve and Andy explain their rigs in person and in detail.Shop Dixie Dregs' Gear:Roland GK-3 Divided Pickup - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/R5MGOvEngl Steve Morse Signature 100-Watt Amps - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/vNJP4LENGL Amplifiers E412VSB 240-watt 4 x 12-inch Amplifier Cabinet - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/daMO92Roland GR-55 Synthesizer - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/NkM9Q1Keeley Compressor - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/B0drY9TC Electronic Flashback - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/y2XqeGTC Electronic Hall of Fame Reverb - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/MmMANnErnie Ball 2023 Super Slinky Paradigm Electric Guitar Strings - .009-.042 - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/75vaJ5Line 6 Helix Guitar Multi-effects Floor Processor - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/Qy6LnzElectro-Voice ZLX-12P-G2 1000W 12-inch Powered Speaker Pair - https://sweetwater.sjv.io/LXMKZ0Full Rig Info: https://www.premierguitar.com/videos/rig-rundown/dixie-dregsSubscribe to PG's Channel: http://bit.ly/SubscribePGYouTubeWin Guitar Gear: https://bit.ly/GiveawaysPG Don't Miss a Rundown: http://bit.ly/RIgRundownENLMerch & Magazines: https://shop.premierguitar.comPG's Facebook: https://facebook.com/premierguitarPG's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/premierguitar/PG's Twitter: https://twitter.com/premierguitarPG's Threads: https://threads.net/@premierguitarPG's TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@premierguitar[Brought to you by D'Addario: https://ddar.io/wykyk-rr]0:00 - D'Addario & Joe Glaser0:15 - Steve Morse Intro0:56 - Steve Morse's No.1 Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar2:29 - Steve Morse's Custom String Mute4:08 - Steve Morse's Custom Pickup Switching6:07 - Recreating Dixie Dregs' Back Catalog7:31 - Steve Morse's Signature Engl Amps & Cabs8:18 - Steve Morse's Pedalboard11:19 - Designing the Engl Steve Morse Signature13:56 - Steve Morse's Roland GR-5515:45 - Steve Morse's No. 2 Ernie Ball Music Man Guitar18:19 - Andy West's Gould Basses22:09 - Andy West's Line 6 Helix Floor & EV Speakers© Copyright Gearhead Communications LLC, 2024#guitar #guitarist #rigrundown #guitarplayer #bass #bassist #guitargear #stevemorse

Jeff Tweedy, songwriter and founding member and front man of the GRAMMY Award-winning rock band Wilco, reflects on why we listen to music, why we love songs, and how music can connect us to each other and to ourselves in World Within a Song: Music that Changed My Life and Life that Changed My Music. In conversation with Brendan Canty, a musician and filmmaker best known as the drummer in Fugazi, and currently The Messthetics. This program was held on November 8, 2023.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Gorgol Bordello over Zoom video!International punk band Gogol Bordello & friends, led by Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz, release a collaborative single for charity, “United Strike Back.” Out on Hütz's own label, Casa Gogol, the track features punk & hardcore heavy hitters like Tre Cool (Green Day), Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Joe Lally (Fugazi, The Messthetics), Roger Miret (Agnostic Front), Monte Pittman (Ministry), Sasha (Kazka) and Puzzled Panther. Hütz shares “Here, living legends of punk and hardcore who always meant so much to me, come together to show their much needed support for Ukrainian freedom fighters.” The powerful punk anthem fights back against imperialism and dictatorship, with a unifying cry of “That's the way united people strike back. That's the way your palace crumbles, that's the way the house of cards tumbles, that's the way the dictator's story ends, as we stand with brothers, sisters, lovers and friends.”All proceeds will go to Kind Deeds to help wounded Ukrainian defenders regain mobility with prosthetics. The release precedes Gogol Bordello's EU & US Summer Tour (stopping at The Atlantis on August 5).The band recently performed for Rolling Stone, The Recording Academy's Global Spin and WNYC's Soundcheck, with Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz continuing to be a “flagbearer of the cultural resistance…as the one-year mark of the war in Ukraine approaches” (CBC Radio's The Sunday Magazine).ABOUT GOGOL BORDELLOSince 1999, International punk band Gogol Bordello, led by Ukrainian frontman Eugene Hütz, has been filling up rooms with an energy that could run a whole city. Their latest album Solidaritine is no exception, going back to their hardcore roots: "With a Fugazi cover, Social Distortion references, and an appearance from H.R. of Bad Brains, Gogol Bordello's mission is well-studied and seemingly endorsed by icons of the genre," Consequence declares. The band has lit up stages around the world alongside System of a Down, Primus, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, dueted with Regina Spektor, and cut albums with legends Rick Rubin and Steve Albini. Russia's war in Ukraine is personal for Eugene & the band, who have been tirelessly advocating for Ukrainian solidarity, partnering with Nova Ukraine, ArtDopomoga, and putting together benefits with Patti Smith, The Hold Steady, Suzanne Vega, Magnetic Fields, Matisyahu and more. Hütz has also appeared in arthouse films such as Liev Schreiber's Everything Is Illuminated with Elijah Wood, Filth and Wisdom helmed by Madonna and documentary Gogol Bordello Non-Stop.We want to hear from you!
