Chaz Mostert and Hayden Paddon are back on the pod but this time in opposing corners ahead of the Race of Champions (ROC)! Mozzie has been given a late call up to join the All Stars team and reckon’s he needs some advice from Hayden. For Paddon the chance to go head-to-head in Sydney with an icon of rallying in Sebastien Loeb was too good an opportunity to miss. So who has the edge? Circuit racers or the Rally and Rallycross stars? Plus Hayden talks about tackling the 2025 Australian Rally Championship with the program shifting into top gear after ROC. And what Chaz and Walkinshaw Andretti United learned after the opening Supercars round at Sydney Motorsport Park as they gear up for Round 2 at the Grand Prix in Melbourne. Chaz, Hayden and an incredible line-up of legends will be at the Race of Champions this weekend at the Olympic Stadium. I've recently been reading a few books about Bees and Bumblebees; in the past I worked on mosquitoes and beneficial pest controllers, got stung by a Japanese hornet (no, not the “giant murder hornet”, but it was big and it did hurt!) and slowly come to the conclusion that entomology should have been my hobby a lot earlier in life.  There are so many stories!  We know Honeybees and Bumblebees as “pollinators” of flowers, especially our food crops. In this insect group (Hymenoptera) the Honeybees and the four species of Bumbles are all exotic creatures imported as slave labour. Without them our diet would look a lot poorer.  As gardeners we know too well that these pollinators are welcome visitors to our garden: my tomatoes would never fruit without those bumblebees; (the honeybees never get into my tunnel house – tomato is not their gig!).  Every pollinator has its own range of flowers to work on – the reward, of course, is to extract some nectar to feed babies and queens.  This teaches us to create a heap of “wildflowers” under the apples, pears, plums and peaches, near raspberries and strawberries. The diversity of these wildflowers attracts a wide range of pollinators.  It is exactly what you'd need as a TEACHER if you want to do a unit on bumble bees, or a topic for “mini-beasts” in the curriculum; identify what visits which flower.  But these wildflowers also attract other nectar hunters: mosquitoes! Males only – they are the pollinators! They also fertilise the females who then lay eggs on the edge of ponds and water features.  Woah! Hang on for a moment!! I know what you're saying…  The mosquito wrigglers grow up in the pond/water feature, where they consume the bacterial soup that makes those water habitats so “dirty looking”; Mozzie larvae clean your water!  Water cleaning mosquito wrigglers. Photo / Supplied  Last but not least: the variety of flowers you plant in your garden also attract a variety of pollinating flies, beetles and parasitic wasps. Those flies and beetles give birth to babies (larvae) that are often predators of aphids, mealybugs and scale insects, as well as caterpillars and other plant “pests”.  The Parasitic wasps (pareasitoids) will lay eggs inside their host; these eggs hatch into wasp larvae that will devour your garden “pests” from the inside-out, controlling a heap of damaging insects that give your plants a hard time.  Parasitoid on Fennel. Photo / Supplied.  For every job an insect does certain plant species receive a benefit; everything is connected to everything else…  This why my garden has many different species of flowering plants, spread willy-nilly under fruit trees and near vegetables.  I also make sure there are bumble bee nest boxes near my tomatoes and small bamboo “bug motels” in which some tiny native, parasitic wasps create their home …  The more bio-diversity, the fewer troubles in your quarter acre paradise! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In 2020 Stephenie Rodriguez attended a work conference in Nigeria where she experienced an unremarkable mosquito bite that seemed typically inconsequential at the time. However, fate had other plans. Just two weeks later, she found herself collapsing on the floor of an airport. A mere 24 hours passed before the digital entrepreneur, globe-trotter and single mother slipped into a coma within the confines of a Boston hospital room, her chances of survival set at a mere 2%. What Stephenie has navigated, adapted to and overcome amidst these most recent years is nothing short of remarkable. After contracting cerebral malaria and defying the incredibly narrow odds of survival stacked against her, Stephenie has now lost both her feet above the ankle and yet it's fair to say this extraordinary human very much continues to walk through life with a spring in her step, so to speak.  Resilient, courageous and a hell of a go-getter... Hi! My name is Terry J. Aman and this installment marks my 87th episode of VideoFuzzy, reporting the progress I've made in cataloging more than 3,000 VHS transfers and digital recordings. For this installment, titled "Mozzie! The Treasure!" I took a road trip to visit my friend Kirk Nybakken in Minot and we tore into the series premiere of USA Network's original series "White Collar," my Fuzzy Feature for this set. In my Classic Collection, cataloging discs 1426 to 1450, I talk about "FlashForward," "Monk," "Criminal Minds," "Mad Men," "Mercy," "Grey's Anatomy," "Tales from the Darkside," "Nip/Tuck," "Community," "Glee," "The West Wing" and "Battlestar Galactica." Also, with this set I break into a new binder, Binder No. 8, so I take a moment to reminisce about what all turned up in Binder No. 7. In my Current Collection, I only archived one disc, but that included the third season finale of "Kung Fu," and the series premiere of Bob Odenkirk in "Lucky Hank." I also watched the Netflix productions of "Cunk on Earth" and "BoJack Horseman," and Ralph stood me to "The Super Mario Brothers Movie," which was quite a lot of fun. This caller asks huge (and important) questions but the hosts might be a bit out of their depth… 17:02Repeat atheopagan caller Mark dials in to ask whether atheists can experience wonder and awe, and why so many atheists seem to be averse to pursuing those feelings intentionally? This conversation touches on the definition of spirituality, the importance of ritual, and whether or not all the tools used by the Church are inherently bad. 32:09Is it logical to be a humanist in a world full of terrible humans? How do you reconcile with all the bad structural things you're forced to take part in, if your goal is to be a good person? Can someone who hunts, drives a big truck, and owns an iphone be considered moral by harm reduction standards? Vi provides some practical advice: the four circles of activism. 49:27This repeat atheist caller is coming out of depression and realizing that, if she had been a less skeptical person, she'd attribute all her progress to God. Why is she thinking more about God now that she's feeling more hopeful? And what causes people to gravitate towards narratives of supernatural salvation so consistently? 56:09 A great way to end out Vi's first episode back, this caller is a conversion therapy survivor and ex-Christian who is looking for ways to help the LGBTQ+ folks stuck in abusive religious environments. Here's what it's all about. We are Danielle and Anthony Santilli, and we own a pet food store in Columbus, OH that is focused on educating pet owners on the benefits of feeding a fresh, species-appropriate diet. Or simply - “Food nature intended” Since 2019, we have been helping pet parents transition their pets from ultra processed diets to diets our canines and felines have been thriving off of for millennia and long before the development of canned and bagged pet food. We have 2 dogs, Mozzie and Foxy, both with their own journeys, that have inspired our exploration in what it means to "feed like you give a damn." (That's our hashtag btw!) On our Fangs & Fur podcast, we will interview brands that we believe in, align with, and personally sell in our store. We will talk to industry experts on current research, best practices, and the natural products and remedies. We can't wait to share real life success stories and have you be part of this movement that we wholeheartedly believe in. Our main objective of this podcast is to equip you with the knowledge and confidence to be able to make the best decisions when it comes to your pets health. We will be answering a question of the week in every episode, so send in a question. Either DM us at @fangsfurpets or send us an email at danielle@fangsfur.com.

Like many outdoor educators' travel has been a constant theme in the life of our guests today. I'm thrilled to have Heather Hamilton join us on the show. Heather has always had a hard time answering, “where are you from?” – as she has lots of places that feel like home but was born in Wichita, Kansas, and has travelled a fair amount for a Kansas kid. But after finishing University at CU-Boulder, she bounced around the west a fair bit, did some international travels to Costa Rica, Italy, Greece, Sweden, Mexico, etc., and eventually ended up living in New Zealand for a bunch of years.  While living in New Zealand, she travelled extensively throughout Australia and Indonesia, as well. And now her base is in Hawaii. She worked in outdoor education roughly 2000-2013. After her time as the Operations Manager for the NOLS NZ Branch, she shifted to Hawaii and chased after more judging work with professional surfing events. Heather was doing that as well in NZ while still working for NOLS but decided to mix things up a bit and go after some surfing dreams.  When she first started with NOLS, she was a river instructor - primarily white water kayaking and then migrated into canoeing, hiking, sea-kayaking, etc as most of us do. In this episode: Heather shares her experience following the devastating earthquake in New Zealand in 2011, while she was an Operation Manager of the NOLS branch outside of Christchurch. and had been residing near a 30-minute drive through town to Sumner Beach. She explains how shaking turned water-saturated layers of sand and silt beneath the surface into sludge that squirted upwards through cracks. Thick layers of silt covered properties and streets and water and sewage from broken pipes flooded streets. House foundations cracked and buckled, wrecking many homes. She tells us how once the mobile coverage was back on; students and instructors were bombarded with calls from parents and loved ones all around the world. She further states the tragic aftershocks that lasted for months playing a game of catch it before it hits the floor, as she assisted the neighborhood with laundry and filling water jugs, which resulted in taking an emotional toll on her health and pushed her to the breaking point. Hamilton talks about another dreadful incident in Mexico City, and how she was hot to trot beforehand knowing all the ins and outs – that surfaced all the memories and struggled of the past. Moving forward, Heather shares some memorable trips on the Drysdale River in Northwest Australia, and how it still is the most special place to her. She gave us a deeper insight into how they went to the Malcolm Douglas crocodile farm and learn about saltwater crocodile country, and get educated on 10 different snakes. She entertains us more with hilarious funny stories with her pals, Warren, Travis, and Lelia, and shares some great tips to stay dry in Mozzie domes. We throw a quick intriguing rapid-fire questions at her, which she answers as gracefully as only she can. Lastly, she tells us her favourite hot drink after a long hard day at camps, and one particular place she wishes to share this drink in the field with - after all, what's more, soothing than wrapping your frozen fingers around a piping hot mug of something refreshing.

Cameron Webb, to put it simply, is the mozzie guy. He has built his career studying the diversity and ecology of mosquitoes and also their interactions with humans and how they can be vectors of significant human diseases. His expertise in mosquitoes requires him to be in one moment a champion for mosquito appreciation and understanding, whilst simultaneously understanding the need to control their populations and their impact on people. When he’s not out in swamps surveying mosquito populations, you can find him in the lab, or in front of a microphone advocating for responsible urban development and integrated pest management. As cities grow and become greener, we are also faced with the inevitable interactions with wildlife that can occur including our complex relationship with mosquitoes. In this interview we advocate for a new breed of mosquito appreciators, AKA “itchers”, and a balanced appreciation of what ‘living close to nature’ really means. Post By: Adam Turteltaub Willie Garson has committed more crimes than anyone you have ever met or will ever meet in your life. Fortunately, the crimes have been fictional. He played the character Mozzie on White Collar for five seasons, had a recurring role as Gerard Hirsch on Hawaii Five-O, and even was a repeat offender on NYPD Blue. He also played Stanford Blatch on Sex and the City, a role in which his character committed no crimes that I can recall. While playing a white collar criminal certainly sounds fun, he explains that it proved to be very educational. He learned about the great amount of confidence many criminals have and that it’s not a strict risk/reward equation that motivates them. In this podcast he shares these insights and delves into why we identify with the criminals we see on TV. He also discusses the tremendous amount of thought that goes into what lines we will allow characters to cross, and which we won’t. Listen in also to learn how to get inside the head of a wrongdoer. It’s a fun podcast, with some good lessons for compliance teams wondering why people commit wrongdoing and why so many sympathize with bad actors. It’s also great insight if you’re considering creating training scenarios where the characters break the rules.

Garson is best known for his long runs on television, as Mozzie on WHITE COLLAR, Stanford Blatch on SEX AND THE CITY, and Henry Coffield on NYPD BLUE. Other TV series include ASK HARRIET, and JOHN FROM CINCINNATTI. He has been recurring as the grifter with a heart of gold Gerard Hirsch on "HAWAII 5-0" since 2015. Born in New Jersey, he started training at The Actors Institute In New York, before majoring in Psychology and Theater at Wesleyan University. After graduation, he quickly started landing guest roles on shows such as CHEERS, FAMILY TIES, THIRTYSOMETHING, LA LAW, as well as continually recurring on a wide array of shows including XFILES, TWIN PEAKS, TWO & A HALF MEN, STARGATE, PUSHING DAISIES, THE PRACTICE, ALLY MCBEAL, JUST SHOOT ME, SPIN, SALVATION, etc etc. His favorite longform on TV was Dr. Kreutz for Steven Spielberg in the acclaimed miniseries TAKEN. On the big screen, other than reprising his SEX & THE CITY role for two features, he has collaborated with the Farrely Brothers on 3 films, SOMETHING ABOUT MARY, KINGPIN, and FEVER PITCH, as well as appearing in SOAPDISH, GROUNDHOG DAY, MARS ATTACKS, THE ROCK, BEING JOHN MALKOVITCH, FEED, POLKA KING, and many others. He has often been re-used by such varied directors as Spike Jonze, Michael Bay, the late great Mike Nichols, and Ron Shelton. Upcoming films include WALK TO VEGAS, MAGIC CAMP, and BELLMEN. As a director, Garson has directed episodes of WHITE COLLAR and GIRL MEETS WORLD, and, with Warner Brothers, is developing a half hour as producer/creator, which he will also appear in. LONE PINE, a feature for Garson to direct, is currently also in development. Garson continues to perform with various bi-coastal theater companies such as Naked Angles, Manhattan Theater Club, The Roundabout Theater, and The Geffen. He is very involved with many charities, including AMFAR, Camp Joslin for Diabetes, Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity, and especially The Alliance for Childrens Rights, which facilitates adoptions in LA County---this has a special place in the Garson family, as Willie adopted his son Nathen in Los Angeles in 2010, and has twice served as National Spokesman for National Adoption Day, as well as winning the Francis Wheat Award from The Alliance, and many others. Willie and Nathen speak about adoption nationwide. Aside from acting, Garson is known as a world-class poker player, having been nicknamed "Evil Willie" on the first episode of CELEBRITY POKER SHOWDOWN, and continues to play in tournaments all over the world, both for charity, and through the WORLD POKER TOUR.

Adventures in Businessing: Entrepreneurship, Small Business, and a Healthy Dose of Humor

Introduction What gets you pumped? Does the sound of our theme song get you in the mood to talk about business? Apparently, Jeremy, Rob, and Kevin can’t be counted on to do the podcast without hearing the theme music. Much to James’ chagrin, Rob and Jeremy give everyone a taste of the acapella version of the intro made famous in the Jamesisode. Do the hosts have a plan for this episode? Is there a concrete topic? Will they stop congratulating themselves on recording for two whole weeks in a row? Let’s find out in the next section! The Show Nope. There’s not a topic. It’s more of the free-wheelin’, off-the-cuff antics that you should have come to expect from this podcast. Some talking points: Saturday Drive had an awesome Christmas Party. Rob is being tricked into joining the Saturday Drive team. Kevin is dominating the Saturday Drive fantasy football league. What do the hosts’ businesses do during the slow month of December? Tips & Tricks Kevin’s tip is to not be a fan of the University of Tennessee Football Volunteers. If you’re just now getting into this college football thing, you should just pick a winner. This obviously wouldn’t be Tennessee, a team who’s last bit of national relevance disappeared before any of the current players were even conceived. I hear Alabama is going to be great for a while. Rob wants you to buy your kids a very special hoverboard. Not just any hoverboard, but a real Mozzie board! Apparently this board will help your child not fall off and break their arms, legs, or other appendages. Kevin and James correctly object to this product being called a hoverboard, since they have seen the Back to the Future movie franchise starring Michael J. Fox, and the Mozzie hoverboard does have wheels. If your kids want to ride on a fake hoverboard, buy them a Mozzie brand hoverboard, I guess. If you’re interested in launching or hosting a podcast, James recommends that you check out PodPub. PodPub is a service built by the pocket protector crowd that will host your podcast, your feed, as well as a professionally designed website. If you want to get a podcast off the ground, let the bespectacled nerds PodPub do all the tech stuff for you. Do your children constantly get mocked for their clothing choices? Are they social outcasts because they just don’t know a cardigan from a Kardashian? If so, Jeremy recommends getting your kids’ fashion game on point by using a service like Stichfix. It probably won’t help your offspring become more likable, but other kids will be less likely to banish them to the AV table at lunch.

The human war against the mosquito is once again garnering global public attention. An explosion in the number of cases of Zika virus in the Americas, has resulted in huge media coverage and the World Health Organisation declaring a global health emergency. Spread by the mosquito Aedes aegypti, Zika virus causes a mild fever in most cases, but it has recently been associated with rising rates of microcephaly (abnormal brain development) if a woman is infected during pregnancy. This panel outlines and explore issues relating to both the recent Zika outbreak and relevant broader, contextual features of human-mosquito relations. We at Across The Airwaves have reached our first milestone by Nico and Dan (along with some help from Joel) successfully producing ten podcast episodes. Yep, you have read that correctly, we've reached double digits and all we can say to that is YAY! This week for our tenth episode, Nico and Dan discuss the new episodes of Leverage and White Collar airing on their respective networks. Highlights from the episode include Dan comparing/contrasting Leverage and White Collar in a heavyweight showdown, predictions about future episodes and Nico trying to figure out the physics of a Love Triangle. Also if you're paranoid like Mozzie don't worry there were no Suits listening in on the recording of this podcast but we may have pulled some cons, so check out this episode before we're forced to provide Leverage.
