I find this topic so so fascinating, yes I am a science nerd and proud of it, but using science to better understand ourselves and how we interact with the world will never get old to me. In today's podcast I am joined by Natasha Lunn, the features director at RED magazine and the creator of a popular and acclaimed email newsletter, Conversations on Love. Her first book, Conversations on Love, was published in July and went straight into the Sunday Times top ten bestseller list.Natasha Lunn's work is some of the most important work being done and it is all centred around teaching us about LOVE. I opened her book and on the first page in black and white, Natasha explains that none of us talk about love and yet still expect to be an expert at it. I don't think I realised how complicated my relationship with love had become over years of bruising and I'm sure many of you might relate. Trigger Warning: Miscarriage I had the pleasure of chatting to Natasha Lunn in today's episode. I remember feeling incredibly humbled that she got in touch to say this podcast was helpful for her. I feel really honored and grateful to Natasha for coming onto this podcast and sharing in this conversation. Within the last 2 weeks, she has released her first book - Conversations on Love - and it is just absolutely amazing! There are so many little golden, magical nuggets, and I just love it so much. I'm delighted to share this episode with you! Natasha is a writer, author and journalist, who works as features director at Red magazine. She also writes a bimonthly email newsletter called Conversations on Love. In this episode, we speak about: • How important it is to name and make space for messy feelings • Feeling like there's no “right decision” to make in particular moments, and the shame that accompanies these decisions • How waiting to start treatments can feel like you're stuck between two possible futures • The Unbearable Unknown and how to live with uncertainty • By divorcing the hope from the outcome it gives you the space to live. • There is no hierarchy of love and mother-child love doesn't have to be the defining energy of your life • Love is not the thing you're given or you acquire; it's the daily choices you make and how you move through the world. • and more! Powerful Quotes: "I think we need to get much better at making space for these messy feelings. Those conversations have made me understand that we have to honor our individual heartbreaks because if we don't and we don't deal with that, it'll show up somewhere else." "Hoping in the face of uncertainty is not just courageous, but we cannot love anyone without doing that." "You're being kind to yourself by hoping. you are saying “I'm going to allow you to hope during this space because that's a more joyful way to survive this horrible time I'm going through." "It's okay to have one day where you feel really sorry for yourself. Allow yourself to indulge the misery. Then tomorrow, just get up and try again. It's useful to make space to let ourselves be a little cynical now and again." "Life is this unfolding thing and when we can see that everybody else experiences in life what unfolds too, I think it just helps us to be a little bit gentler." Some mums may take a while to bond with their baby after they're born. This can be for a variety of reasons and is in fact very common among new mothers. Journalist and writer Natasha Lunn decided to write about her experience of not falling in love with her daughter immediately. She joins Andrea along with Dr Karen Bateson, Head of Clinical Strategy and Development from the Parent Infant Foundation, to discuss the reasons why bonding may take a while for some women. ASMR - or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response - is a relaxing, often sedative sensation that begins on the scalp and moves down the body. It's grown massively in the last few years, particularly during lockdown. What is the appeal behind it, and why do female voices perform particularly well? We hear from Dr Giulia Poerio and ASMR artist Sharon Shares. In Afghanistan, news reports say that the Taliban are going door-to-door in places, taking girls as young as 12 and marrying them off to militants. With thousands of Afghans fleeing to the capital, Kabul, to escape the Taliban advance, Andrea speaks to Lynne O'Donnell, a war correspondent and columnist for Foreign Policy magazine. Eimear McBride burst onto the literary stage with her first novel, A Girl Is a Half-Formed Thing, which won both the Women's prize for fiction and the Goldsmith's prize. Two more celebrated novels followed and she has now written her first non fiction book, Something out of Place: Women & Disgust. Charlotte Worthington won gold for Team GB in the BMX Freestyle event at the Olympics – the first time BMX has ever been represented at the games. Fresh from returning from Tokyo, Charlotte joins Andrea live from UK National Cycling Centre in Manchester. Presented by Andrea Catherwood Produced by Frankie Tobi

I'm so happy to be back - and I'm so excited about today's guest. Natasha Lunn is a journalist and the author of Conversations On Love, an absolutely gorgeous book in which she interviews authors and experts, while also drawing on her own experience in a series of riveting personal essays. She asks three key questions: how do we find love? How do we sustain it? And how do we survive when we lose it? This is truly the stuff of life, and I couldn't put Conversations On Love down. I've known Natasha for a few years, and her fascination with love is totally genuine and infectious. The book - which was born out of her wildly popular newsletter of the same name - takes in both her long quest for romantic love, as well as the aftermath of her miscarriage and her struggle to conceive again. And it explores other kinds of love too: the love between friends, siblings, parents and even strangers. It's so moving and beautifully written - but also funny, warm and wise. I had such fun recording this episode - it was my first one in person for over a year - hence the birdsong in the background (windows open!!), which I rather love for the summery feel it adds. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I had the privilege of sitting down with a fellow lover of love, Natasha Lunn, to talk about her new book Conversations on Love (which is INCREDIBLE!) I love every single second of reading it. No exaggeration! Each page offers a deeper understanding of what it means to love and be loved and what it means to live a life of meaning. The book features interviews with the likes of Alain De Botton, Phillipa Perry, Esther Perel, Candice Carty Williams, Poorna Bell, Dolly Alderton, Roxane Gay, Diana Evans and many many more.
