As is our Thanksgiving week tradition, The Ankler's Katey Rich returns to talk about another film with indistinguishable young actors. This week is packed! We talk A Quiet Place: Day One, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, The Boys, Federer: The Last Twelve Days, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, The Acolyte, and My Policeman. The show kicks off with Laurens rave review of A Quiet Place: Day One. It's not just "more of the same" which makes it exciting. Lupita Nyong'o and Joesph Quinn do a great job, and then there's that damn cat... Next up, Kevin talks about Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. This one actually IS "more of the same" but in the best way possible. Will it win any awards? No. But if you are a fan of the original film, this one hits all the right notes. Except Eddie's signature laugh. Who knows why...? Bringing Andrew into the fold, finally, Kevin and he discuss The Boys lateest episode and some of the sensation around it. All in all, a solid episode moving along a solid season! Lauren then swings things away from the raunchy to the very classy with Federer: The Last Twelve Days. It's a quick and wonderful documentary about the end of Roger's tennis career and the discussion quickly shows us just how much Andrew loves sports. (Hint: he does not love sports) So as to not let things get too mature, Kevin swings us back to Godzilla x King: The New Empire. Let's be real - this is NOT Godzilla Minus One. This is a wild and crazy action adventure with a minimal nonsensical plot and it is absolutely a ton of fun. this is Titans kicks ass and taking names ad shouldn't be anything less. Staying with sci-fi for a minute, Kevin and Andrew discuss the latest episode of The Acolyte. Their opinions differ slightly, but the episode is still a solid one and they both are looking forward to the final episodes. Lauren closes out the show with her review of My Policeman, a time hopping queer love story starring Harry Styles. She was hoping for something with the impact of Fellow Travelers but was sort of left wanting. Not a bad film by any stretch, but it was lacking that special something that could have made it a great film. As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Enjoy the episode and have a great week! Facebook: @apncpodcast Twitter: @APNCPodcast Instagram: AllPopNoCulture

Host T. Cooper is joined by Ron Nyswaner to discuss having the confidence to push Hollywood's boundaries, staying flexible during the unpredictable reality of being on a TV set, telling authentic LGBTQ+ stories without always centering suffering, and more. Ron Nyswaner is the 2024 recipient of the WGA East's Walter Bernstein Award, and creator of the Showtime series Fellow Travelers. He is known for his feature screenplays, including Smithereens, Philadelphia, and My Policeman. He is also known as a writer and producer of the Showtime series Ray Donovan and Homeland. Over the course of his career, Ron has been nominated for numerous awards including an Academy Award, BAFTA Award, and a Primetime Emmy Award. His most recent project is the Showtime series Fellow Travelers. Based on the 2007 fictional novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon, the historical drama follows the paths of political staffers Hawkins Fuller and Tim Laughlin, whose paths converge at the height of the Lavender Scare of the 1950s. Despite the constant threat of getting caught, their searing love for each other only intensifies in the tumultuous decades that follow. Their volatile romance spans the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, as they face obstacles in the world and in themselves. This episode is hosted by T. Cooper, a Writers Guild of America East member with credits including The Get Down and The Blacklist. Another chance to hear from production designer Maria Djurkovic, as she takes us behind the scenes of Harry Styles' movie, My Policeman, which was made in the middle of the pandemic. Lockdown presents a number of challenges, expected ones like social distancing and sick crew members. And unexpected ones, like studios being too full and staff being in short supply because more movies were being made during the pandemic, rather than less. Maria kept an audio diary during these unprecedented times for the British film industry, as she battles with crew shortages, schedule changes and a possible bout of Covid.
In this episode, 2 of our admins, Britt and Mel, talk about My Policeman. Warning: Spoilers on both My Policeman (book and movie) and Don't Worry Darling. We took a trip down memory lane revisiting exciting moments for the movie we all love so much. Join us on our journey, from our reactions finding out Harry was going to be in the cast, the first pictures on set, his passion and determination to get an audition for Tom's role to the virtual flowers we sent him on the day of the premiere, among other topics. She emphasizes how she enjoys having a framework to jump from for some imaginative inspiration. Bethan also talks about the themes of desire and longing in her novel “My Policeman.” She reveals that the inspiration behind these themes came from growing up in the middle class as a woman, in which openly discussing erotic desire was frowned upon. He's the living definition of a “working actor,” a versatile Brit whom you may recognize from The Vikings or Homeland who has so often played American (on series like Law & Order) that some fans are shocked to discover his heritage. His parents are actors and he followed his dad (who still appears on England's Coronation Street) into the family business. His films include Priest, Wings of the Dove, My Policeman, and now The Apology (opening today in theaters and on VOD, opposite Anna Gunn). Leonard and Jessie are longtime fans and enjoyed discussing the highs and lows of an actor's life.
Of the score, composer STEVEN PRICE says, “How does the music of our lives change as we grow old? What could forty years of unspoken regrets do to a musical theme? These were the questions that intrigued and consumed me after being introduced to the story of My Policeman by our movie's wonderful director, Michael Grandage, early in 2021. In its exploration of the lives of three people both in their 1950s youth and then as their older selves in the English coastal town of Peacehaven some four decades later, the project offered an inspiring canvas for a wonderful collaboration. Some pieces were written early on during the shoot and seemed to quickly fall into place, while others evolved more gradually throughout the process as we continually discovered more about both our characters and their environment, musical representations of the sound of the sea becoming a crucial element within the storytelling of the score.”Help support our show by purchasing this album at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) staff@classicalmusicdiscoveries.comThis album is broadcasted with the permission of Crossover Media Music Promotion (Zachary Swanson and Amanda Bloom).

Cinematographer Ben Davis enjoys working on both big budget Marvel movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange as well as smaller films such as The Banshees of Inisherin, My Policeman, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Ben feels that the challenges of shooting large scale movies vs. small intimate movies might be different, but each film speaks for itself and needs to be told in a particular visual style. Ben and The Banshees of Inisherin director Martin McDonagh have enjoyed working together regularly, beginning with Seven Psychopaths, then Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. When McDonagh called him about shooting Banshees, Ben agreed before even reading the script, because he knows McDonagh's scripts are lyrical with humor sprinkled into the drama. They were shooting during the pandemic, so the two had to spend 10 days quarantined in a house together, which was a great opportunity to talk through and visualize the film. McDonagh knew that he wanted a period piece about a remote, gray and dreary place, but he wanted to bring in a more colorful palette, so costume design became important to bring in more colors. Ben found Banshees difficult to shoot emotionally and physically, with everything shot on location on a couple of small, uninhabited islands- Inisherin is not actually a real place. They had to build all the sets for the movie from scratch on the coastal Atlantic islands, so everything had to withstand powerful winds and storms. The wide landscape vistas Ben shot were influenced by John Ford and Terrence Malick, and he enjoyed going off independently in the early morning with a camera to shoot small intimate aspects of the island. For the night exteriors using moonlight, Ben couldn't use large equipment like cranes due to high winds. He used old techniques of lighting black and white, making shapes with mesh over hard light. The Banshees of Inisherin is currently playing in theaters. My Policeman can be found on Amazon Prime. Taste Is Simply Just Knowing How Something Makes You Feel. My Policeman is a new movie based on the book by Bethan Roberts, which is also based on the life of writer E.M. Forster. The crew talks about a new audiobook to check out from Jannette McCurdy and breakdown some questionable scenes from David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, pretty uneasy stuff to sit through as they revisit the cult classic film. Shannon brings up some sad news about the late Aaron Carter which makes the crew take a dive into a nostalgic trip from childhood bringing up walkman CD players, HitClips, and easier times. IMDB shares with us what the film is about: “The arrival of Patrick into Marion and Tom's home triggers the exploration of seismic events from 40 years previously.” While the film didn't strike everyone as the next amazing film, the crew divulges in the 1950s era Sussex society when it was extremely illegal to be homosexual with life sentencing consequences, and really love how these themes played out. This story of a love triangle serves a notebook-style story spending time in the 90s and the 50s. Apparently, to prepare for his role, Harry Styles memorized the entire script. According to the director, Styles could recite every character's lines in a given scene. Check it out to see what the crew thought about this novel adaptation which you can stream now, only on Amazon Prime. - MY POLICEMAN - DIRECTED BY Michael Grandage WRITTEN BYRon Nyswaner (Screenplay)Bethan Roberts (Based upon the book by) STARRING Gina McKeeLinus RoacheRupert EverettHarry StylesEmma CorrinDavid DawsonKadiff KirwanEmily JohnDora DavisJoseph Potter

We also review “Causeway,” which finds Jennifer Lawrence returning to the kind of raw, unadorned performance she made her name on originally. It's streaming now on Apple TV+. In news, we discuss the myriad ways Elon Musk is ruining Twitter, plus the new “Avatar: The Way of Water” trailer, Kit Connor, Aubrey Plaza, the documentary “God Forbid” and more. And over at our Patreon, the latest on “Andor” and “The Handmaid's Tale.” Cozy up on this fall day and join us!

Did Harry Styles save gay sex in cinema? Was his gay sex scene in "My Policeman" even good? A woman who got a BBL surgery also got her kidney STOLEN. Taylor Swift ruined Kim Kardashians birthday by making the internet come for her. Kim's birthday was also ruined by her private jet problems. Kanye West is losing every business and partnership he has ever had. Travis Scott is being exposed for cheating on Kylie Jenner. Taylor Swift is being called fatphobic because of a scene in her music video.
Who hasn't found themselves consumed with thoughts of Pierce Brosnan films after reading the instructions on a microwaveable ready meal? And rightly so, for the Irish superstar has made a number of memorable movies over the years, including some in which he played a memorable number. But now to the iconic likes of James Bond and Thomas Crown, we can add Doctor Fate, the character Brosnan plays in the new DCEU movie, Black Adam. And on this week's Empire Podcast, The Artist Formerly Known As Bronhom tells Amon Warmann all about that, about shooting The Thomas Crown Affair, and pays a heartfelt tribute to his former Bond comrade, the late Robbie Coltrane. Our other guests this week are Emma Corrin and Michael Grandage, star and director respectively of the love-triangle melodrama My Policeman, who tell Ella Kemp all about their experiences making that movie. Either side of those, Chris Hewitt is joined in the podbooth by Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and John Nugent for a fun episode in which they discuss the horror filmmakers who would adorn their personal Mount Rushmores, have a crack at the week's movie news including Harrison Ford joining the MCU, and review Black Adam, Park Chan-wook's Decision To Leave, Martin McDonagh's The Banshees Of Inisherin, and Paul Feig's The School For Good And Evil. Oh, and we raise a glass to our fellow colleague of such lethal cunning, Ben Travis, who got married last week to his beloved Lizzie. Up the Weds! Enjoy.
We have two movies on the docket this week. First, we review Michael Grandage's disappointing queer drama MY POLICEMAN (3:26), a story told in flashback about a policeman (Harry Styles) who falls for an art curator (David Dawson) in the 1950s, but marries a woman (Emma Corrin) to conceal his sexuality. Next, we discuss HALLOWEEN ENDS (25:39) the frustrating final film in David Gordon Green's HALLOWEEN trilogy. Since none of us had seen the second film in the series, HALLOWEEN KILLS, we lead with a review it before delving into the final chapter. And in this week's Patreon exclusive audio, we talk about Mike Flanagan's 2013 horror film OCULUS! Join Our Patreon Buy Spoilerpiece Merch

We're still waiting for someone to come along and sprinkle fairy dust on us. ‘Til then, we're just gonna keep acting like real film critics here at Breakfast All Day. Alonso and Christy review the truly terrible live-action remake of “Pinocchio,” which went straight to streaming on Disney+. We also have lots of news for you, including the Toronto International Film Festival starting (with Alonso's breakdown of how meaningless standing ovations are), Disney's D23 Expo, trailers for “Glass Onion” and “My Policeman,” Lea Michele in “Funny Girl,” Beyond Fest celebrating “RRR” director S.S. Rajamouli and more. And over at our Patreon, we recap episode 4 of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” which was actually good! Thanks for sharing some of your time with us.

It's not just “Harry's House” anymore - it's Harry's world - and we're living in it. In a brand new interview with Rolling Stone, singer Harry Styles is getting candid about life as a ridiculously famous person. Like how he tries to balance his private and public life, how he has to warn partners about dating him, and about how he's being accused of “queerbaiting” as a way to further his career. But here's the question: Just because Harry Styles is ridiculously famous, is it fair for us to expect him to lay out his entire life on the line for the world to see?Listen ad free with Wondery+.
