Happy Wine Wednesday! We are back with another installment in our special series, The Pilot Project. Terence Johnson returns this week to discuss the pilot episode of one of our favorite guilty pleasure shows, True Blood. It turns out that Terence and I had a LOT to say about True Blood, so this week you will get our main discussion on the pilot and next week we will have a bonus spoiler segment in which Terence and I discuss the series as a whole. It's also worth noting that by the end of the first segment, a LOT of wine had been consumed and it shows. We kick things off by talking about what drew us to the True Blood pilot and whether either one of us read the source material. Of course we talk about the show's theme song and the very memorable opening sequence.Following that, we get into the Qs that need some As. We discuss the opening sequence and how Alan Ball introduced us to the world of Bon Temps. We also put a modern day lens on True Blood and discuss whether we would be open to dating a vampire and if we would have curiosity about vampire blood. You know we can't discuss a show about supernaturals or superheroes without sharing which special ability we would want.Of course we get into the Bill and Sookie of it all - their introduction, their chemistry, and the preview into their taboo love that we see in the pilot episode. In honor of Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer meeting and falling in love on the set of True Blood, we discuss some of our favorite couples who met on the set.We also get into the episode standouts, which of course includes a salute to the very talented Nelsan Ellis (RIP). We then give our final elevator pitch as to why you might want to continue watching True Blood and then things get thirsty! Thanks so much for listening! Friendly reminder - we drink, we know things, and we use adult language. Be sure to follow and support Terence here: his website, his Twitter account, and his IG.Follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @MoreWinePod! Send longer feedback to morewinepod@gmail.com. This week, dive into the fifth installment of the HBO MAX Showdown! We asked ourselves, "Should we cancel or keep HBO MAX?" and decided to make a challenge of finding content worth staying subscribed. In today's episode, Schmee introduced Riker to True Blood (HBO MAX) with just the pilot episode, "Strange Love." We discuss how effectively the pilot established the genre for the show, introduced the characters, presented the plot for the season/series to come, and hooked us to watch more. Welcome back to the One More Story Games podcast. We're a little under the weather but we continue to work on the Shakespeare's Landlord video game. Our first topic is to discuss the recent passing of actor Nelsan Ellis who played Lafayette on HBO's True Blood (based on Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series of books). Charlaine's character Lafayette deals with LGBTQ bigots "Tip Your Waitress" and how her novels discuss social injustices. Our next topic is to continue to announce that Charlaine Harris herself will be joining our podcast on July 28th at 3pm EST. Allena, one of our viewers, mentions the way that Charlaine weaves her characters throughout her series; Lily Bard even shows up in the Sookie Stackhouse series at one point. The development game continues. We are now designing the character conversations for the game. More on that later. We now have a model for Lily's block which includes the Arboretum, Shakespeare Garden Apartments, Lily's House, Carleton's House, and Shakespeare Combined Church. We will have more to show the experience of walking around the block in the coming weeks. One of the problems we're running into is that each of the five Lily Bard books are merging together but we're happy to put all of the stories into our game. Also we're having to depart from some of the book details just to make things interesting for our players: e.g. the Arboretum might be a little more than a bunch of trees with plaques next to them. We end our show thinking about where Lily Bard would be these days and thinking about the other strong women characters that may have influenced Charlaine when she originally wrote Shakespeare's Landlord.
