We have started a new YouTube channel called Suspense Video, where this interview is also posted. We are releasing the audio of this interview on our podcast. Charlaine Harris was born in the Mississippi Delta. Her father was a farmer and then a school principal, and her mother was a librarian. Charlaine was educated at public schools and attended Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. Two thousand twenty-one will mark Charlaine's fortieth year as a published writer. She has written two stand-alones, and her series include the Aurora Teagarden mysteries, the Lily Bard mysteries, the Sookie Stackhouse urban fantasies, the Harper Connelly urban fantasies, the Midnight, Texas novels, the Cemetery Girl graphic novels (with Christopher Golden), and the Gunnie Rose books, set in an alternate history America. Charlaine has also written many short stories, and together with Toni L.P. Kelner she edited seven themed anthologies (and had great fun). The television series “True Blood” was based on Charlaine's Sookie Stackhouse novels. Hallmark Movies and Mysteries is still showing a series of movies created about the Aurora Teagarden character, and for two seasons “Midnight, Texas” was on the air. Two of her other series are in production. Charlaine belongs to several professional organizations and is an avid reader. She and her husband live on a cliff overlooking the Brazos River with their rescue dogs. Charlaine has the joy of being a grandmother, and she attends the Episcopalian church.

"A Longer Fall": #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris returns with the second of the Gunnie Rose series, in which Lizbeth is hired onto a new crew, transporting a crate into Dixie, the self-exiled southeast territory of the former United States. What the crate contains is something so powerful, that forces from across three territories want to possess it. In this second thrilling installment of the Gunnie Rose series, Lizbeth Rose is hired onto a new crew for a seemingly easy protection job, transporting a crate into Dixie, just about the last part of the former United States of America she wants to visit. But what seemed like a straight-forward job turns into a massacre as the crate is stolen. Up against a wall in Dixie, where social norms have stepped back into the last century, Lizbeth has to go undercover with an old friend to retrieve the crate as what's inside can spark a rebellion, if she can get it back in time. #1 New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse mysteries and Midnight, Texas trilogy) is at her best here, building the world of this alternate history of the United States, where magic is an acknowledged but despised power.

Charlaine Jannerfeldt is a Canadian transplant to Switzerland who can most often be found running, cycling, skiing, snowshoeing or otherwise roaming the peaks of the Jura mountains, taking as many women and kids along with her as she can. Charlaine knows deeply the power of Nature and how it can strength our minds and our bodies. Her mission is to get everyone outside and plugged into Vitamin N.  I defy anyone listening to NOT want to get outside after listening to Charlaine's encouraging personal story and the tales of the women whom she accompanies over the peaks and valleys of Switzerland. What do you do when you can't decide whether to work on your relationship or create a plan for separation? Charlaine Avery tells us about a specialized form of counseling called discernment counseling designed to help make this exact decision. Charlaine has worked with individuals, couples, and families for more than twenty years; helping them with relationship issues such as communication problems, conflict, grief, affairs, transitions, parenting and step-parenting.  She believes relationships are the foundation of a healthy life and feels honored to share people’s struggles and appreciates their courage as they learn to connect in healthy and loving ways.    Charlaine is the first counselor in BC to be certified in Discernment counseling – a process that assists couples to decide if they want to stay the same, change with identified goals, or end their relationship. Your host, Christina Vinters, is a nationally designated Chartered Mediator on a mission to inspire and facilitate healthy family transitions. She is an “ex” Divorce Lawyer (Non-Practicing Member of the Bar), Author of Pathways to Amicable Divorce, and the  DIY Divorce Manual, and Peacemaking Business Consultant. And she has also obtained training in discernment counseling. She's the first counselor in British Columbia to have this counseling, and this is a process that helps couples decide if they want to keep the relationship the same, work on changing their relationship with specific goals in mind, or whether they would like to end their relationship. Charlaine says that this process can be particularly helpful when couples are not on the same page about what they would like to see for the future of the relationship. She also tells us that research on this process has shown that couples who have gone through this process and decided to eventually separate had a smoother separation as a result of having respectfully gone through the discernment process and decided to end their relationship together. Alright, let's jump into the interview.  Christina: Welcome, Charlaine!  Charlaine: Thank you, Christina!  Christina: I'd love to have you tell us a bit about yourself – introduce the listeners to you and your background and what drew you to working with couples?  Charlaine: OK. Well, I'm 62 years old which means I've been around the block a bit. I've been a counselor for over 23 years. I love working with couples because you can see the changes that are happening. And what I really love about working with couples is when you can see them finally turn toward each other and starting to being really able to hear each other and to talk about those things that have been difficult and to decide if they can really work on this, or whether they really need to call it. It is a very poignant moment when people are able to do that. And then they can make decisions about how are they going to move forward.  Christina: Part of what you do is you help couples decide whether or not they want to put the work into the relationship, or make that big decision of ending it, right?  Charlaine: Yeah. Working with couples can be challenging sometimes because you don't always know if everyone's on the same page and is equally committed to the relationship. And so, I've done couples counseling now for 20 years, and so sometimes you just don't know why it isn't working. I decided to study discernment counseling a few years ago because it really helps the couple to get to this place of saying, “Are we gonna stay the same as we are or are we actually gonna identify what are our issues and what are we gonna work more deeply on? Or are we really done – done that we need to move on?”  Christina: So you studied discernment counseling. What exactly does it involve and how does that training set you apart from a general couple's therapist?  Charlaine: So there was a project down at Minnesota called Marriages on the Brink. And what they found is that it was really important that each party and the couple have an opportunity to be seen individually, to talk about what they were going on. And it was also very important to have three options on the table. We can stay the same as we are, or we can identify our issues and figure out what are we gonna work on in longer term, more intensive counseling, or we can decide if we're going to just call it quits and not be together anymore. How the stuff differs from what many couples' counselor's offer is often you bring two people in your room, you meet with them together so there's this sense of secrecy or you know, 'you know something about me that I don't know that you know about me.' And... But you also don't ever get the chance, unless you meet with them individually to explore those issues. What I like about the discernment counseling is it's very neutral; it is really there to help people decide if there's a piece of the counseling where you meet the couple together, you find out about the history, you find about their hopes and dreams. And you find out about what's not been going on. Another piece of I think is really important is they do ask what about 'what about the children of the marriage, and what is the plan for them,' so that the children's needs don't get forgotten is part of the conversation. It's a fairly intensive process because you commit from session to session – it's a maximum of five sessions. So you really have to get in there and really find out what's going on. You meet with them together and then you meet with them individually and the other partner waits. These individual sections of these sessions are about 20 to 30 minutes. It's really an opportunity to get to know the person, find out their understanding and perceptions, what haven't they been able to say. One of the questions that always has to be explored is 'Is there someone else in your life that's complicating the situation that the two of you are in?' And then from that conversation with them, figuring out whether what of those three options -- do they want to stay the same; is it so painful they need to change it; if it can't be changed, are they really considering not being together anymore.  Christina: So I am curious, have you ever had a couple at the end of five sessions who are still confused about what to do?  Charlaine: That's s often because, I mean if they're confused, it means they're choosing to stay the way they are. Which is OK, right, because it's a neutral approach. Sometimes the couples' counselor would say, 'Well, you know, the counseling isn't working so you shouldn't be together.' And I actually don't believe that. Counselling doesn't work for as many reasons sometimes, and it's really important to allow people the option to say, you know, 'I don't wanna deal with this now.' or 'I don't wanna change now so let's just stay the way we are for now.' And that's OK too, so it makes room for those options. And then there's the same kind of pressure. And also at the end of each session, I ask each member of the couple, 'Are you willing to come back?' If they say no, then we're done. If they say yes, and then we just make another appointment. So I meet with them individually and then I actually get the person with my support to give a report back, kind of a summary about where they at with the other person, whether they're still unclear or if they need a clear choice. And then that the other person just listens, and then they see the other person. Discernment counseling is not couple counseling. So it's really important to understand the difference. We're not actually trying to change the relationship yet – we're actually trying to explore where are you right now. And based on where you are right now, what are your options. So that's quite different in couple's counseling and that can be difficult for couples because they think they're coming in to get fixed. Discernment really can't zip out how do we figure out what needs fixing. And then once we identify what needs fixing, then what are you willing to do to fix it.  Christina: in what sorts of circumstances do you recommend that you found it to be helpful? For people listening and you know, couple of points where they can look at their relationship and say this exists or that exists and maybe discernment counseling would be a good idea for me.  Charlaine: Yeah, so discernment counseling is done when you don't know what to do. It's obviously become too painful for things to stay the same, but there's all kinds of reasons why people don't wanna end their relationships. But there maybe a general unhappiness and they don't know what's possible and they're not sure if their partner will buy into longer-term work. If one of the two is not sure about how committed they are to the relationship, then that's a really good time to come into discernment counseling. I do this... I have this mantra-kind of relationship tune-up maintenance or repair. And so it might just be that you're needing a tune up and that would be... we'd be able to identify that pretty quickly. So for instance, a couple comes in, we talk about things. They decide that they want to go to couples counseling and we can say these are the issues we're gonna work on, we're gonna commit to it long term, then we're done. And then they can move see me as the couple's counselor or I can refer them out to another counselor. So, because they're clear on what they want. It's when people are uncertain, or when the stakes are high. Or when they don't know what the options are. Or when, you know, they just need help talking to their partners about the thing that isn't working for them. So it's kind of an intro, and it really helps to figure out what's people's motivation and trying to get a good sense of what would it take specifically to work on their relationship rather than taking this global kind of view of things. I really like it because it is very respectful of people's beliefs and values. It's really open-ended in terms of the conversation. They do get my support if there's something they do need to say to their partner, then I support them to say that. And so I think it's just really helpful to get on point.  Christina: Now, is this process... I imagine it's open for any couple and intimate relationship, they don't have to be married, do they?  Charlaine: Definitely it would be helpful for anyone who's trying to determine the status of the relationship. If you're not married, of course, there are different legal implications and things like that. But from my perspective, it doesn't make any difference. It's, you know, 'Do I wanna continue with this relationship or don't I?' 'Do I wanna continue, then what needs to be different?' 'Then if I don't wanna continue, then how do I let my partner know and just how do we move forward from that?'  Christina: I don't know if you would have this information, but have you seen any benefits to couples who do eventually decide to separate? I'm wondering if they might have an easier time of going through the separation process after having gone through the discernment process?  Charlaine: That was an interesting piece of the research, was that lawyers actually started referring couples because what they found is, because of these kinds of conversations that are respectful and clearly communicating; that there was less conflict if they did decide they had to separate and move on. There was less conflict because the emotional part of letting go of the relationship was actually being taken care of prior to going to the lawyers, where sometimes it can become quite conflictual. There's no guarantees obviously, but if you two have resolved and you're on the same page about why you're separating, then you don't need to argue about 'are we separating or not?' It's clear that that decision's already been clearly made. The difficulty, of course, is for the person who's being left, it might not be their choice, it might not be their decision. But at least it gives them a place where they can express this to their partner, and their partner can get my support explaining to them why it's not an option to continue. So the lawyers actually find it quite helpful.  Christina: That's what I was imagining. You would say because I do see sometimes when people haven't had the opportunity if they're coming into a mediation and they haven't had really an opportunity for closure or to accept the relationship has ended. Then that can really drag on discussion of the substantive issues that we're trying to talk about. Because there's all these emotional issues that haven't been resolved yet.  Charlaine: And the thing about relationships is that they don't usually go downhill all at once. So it's a small accumulation of many things. And so when the relationship is put in question, you know sometimes people can't be honest about what's going on. But by meeting with them individually, I'm able to help them to say what they need to say to their partner. So I had a couple in here recently and they're good people. And they care about each other, but it's not just giving them what they need in their life. And it was interesting. They couldn't say it to each other but they could say it to me, that they were done. So I supported the first one to go to say that to the partner. And the partner... then I met with the partner then the partner said that “it's such a relief 'cause I'm on the same page.”  Christina: Oh, good.  Charlaine: Right. It's funny how face to face with couples, it's sometimes hard to do that. And you really need, you know, a caring supportive person to help you to say that. And now I'll be helping them to decide what are the next steps on how do we go forward now that we're both on the same page.  Christina: And so how can people work with you? Do you work with clients online?  Charlaine: I have done some discernment counseling by Skype, as long as the couple's comfortable with that. Because you know, you want confidentiality while you're having the conversation with me. And so that it takes a certain amount of trust about whether you know, the other person's actually not listening at the door.  Christina: Oh, I see. Yes.  Charlaine: So the interviewing people individually direct like as a couple I can do that on Skype. You know, because you can just pass the computer back and forth typically. So it's possible. It's always better in person but since I'm the only one in BC who has a certification at this time, it's gonna be hard for them to find someone locally. And so I'm making it available by Skype.  Christina: OK, great! And I think I saw on the discernment counseling website that there is a list of practitioners in Canada and the United States who do this type of work – is it just the two countries or there are discernment counselors in other countries as well?  Charlaine: I'm not sure. They just reopened the training for people who are interested, so maybe people from other parts of the world... they pretty much began in the US in the last five years or so. So it's definitely a growing aspect of the counseling field.  Christina: OK, fantastic! And what are the best ways for listeners to get in touch with you?  Charlaine: I'm available by phone. People can book appointments directly from my website, I have an online booking system. So they can go to my website averycounselling.ca, counseling has two Ls. And you could look at my blogs, 'cause I have blogs on discernment counseling and I also have connection to the discernment website, the developer of this. There's a little video of him talking about what this is about as well. By phone, through the internet, whatever works for the client.  Christina: Perfect! OK, well thank you so much Charlaine for sharing that information about this new branch of counseling. I think this is gonna be really helpful for a lot of people.  Charlaine: Good, well I hope so. And I much certainly found it helpful for the couples that I've worked with.  Christina: Excellent!

Welcome back to the One More Story Games podcast. We're a little under the weather but we continue to work on the Shakespeare's Landlord video game. Our first topic is to discuss the recent passing of actor Nelsan Ellis who played Lafayette on HBO's True Blood (based on Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series of books). Charlaine's character Lafayette deals with LGBTQ bigots "Tip Your Waitress" and how her novels discuss social injustices. Our next topic is to continue to announce that Charlaine Harris herself will be joining our podcast on July 28th at 3pm EST. Allena, one of our viewers, mentions the way that Charlaine weaves her characters throughout her series; Lily Bard even shows up in the Sookie Stackhouse series at one point. The development game continues. We are now designing the character conversations for the game. More on that later. We now have a model for Lily's block which includes the Arboretum, Shakespeare Garden Apartments, Lily's House, Carleton's House, and Shakespeare Combined Church. We will have more to show the experience of walking around the block in the coming weeks. One of the problems we're running into is that each of the five Lily Bard books are merging together but we're happy to put all of the stories into our game. Also we're having to depart from some of the book details just to make things interesting for our players: e.g. the Arboretum might be a little more than a bunch of trees with plaques next to them. We end our show thinking about where Lily Bard would be these days and thinking about the other strong women characters that may have influenced Charlaine when she originally wrote Shakespeare's Landlord.

We're re-announcing that Charlaine Harris herself will be joining us in an upcoming podcast for July 28th. First off, we do a bit of a follow-up from the seriousness of the previous podcast. Our game will not shy away from the emotional pain that Lily Bard struggles to overcome in that playing (as Lily) will sometimes mean being triggered by emotional events: more on that in future podcasts. This week we're announcing that we're moving from pre-production to full production. This is just a fancy way of saying that we finished most of the planning and are ready to start building the game. To celebrate this we wanted to share with you what we will be sending off to Charlaine for her to review. Also, we announce that there will be two different storylines in our game: authentic and alternate. One will be a faithful adaptation of the Shakespeare's Landlord novel and the other will similar yet different for those who have read the book. This way we can keep you on your toes with a whole NEW mystery of who killed Pardon Albee. Some of the other contents of our design package: renaming Bobo Winthrop and designing the map of Shakespeare. The big reveal this week is the game art of Lily's bedroom done by our artist Anthony (if you want to see the art then go here http://bit.ly/2tJ44MA). As we wind down, we talk about what it was like to read the last sentence of the last Lily Bard book: Shakespeare's Counselor. Then audience member Ellen chimes in with the perfect new name for Bobo. WARNING: This episode may cause trigger warnings due to descriptions of sexual violence. Jean is back this week from the Jalloo Festival of Animation and Gaming, and Blair is back from a Costa Rican tech trade delegation. This week we are talking about Serious Games: video games that do more than just entertain. We get into the violent details of Chapter 5 in "Shakespeare's Landlord". Lily Bard is a character who was kidnapped and violently raped, and physically scarred by her attackers. This forms the basis of her character. Lily is a survivor who keeps people at arms distance. But there are other topics of racial hatred and violence contained within Charlaine's Lily Bard series. We discuss the challenges of adapting these novels as interactive works. Our goal is to create a work that creates empathy with victims of violence and abuse. We talk about the games that have made a difference for us in dealing with mature subject matter. I mention the board game version of the video game "This War of Mine", and in particular a Tom Vasel's review that claimed that TWoM is a GREAT GAME but that he wondered if he would ever play it again due to the intensity of the emotions that he had while playing it. (see his review here) We wonder if people might lose enjoyment of our game because of the inclusion of Lily's triggers; however, our audience lets us know that the reason they return to the series is because of their love for the Lily Bard character and her growth. We can only hope to achieve this in the making of our game.

Jean Leggett is away giving a keynote address at the Jalloo Festival of Animation and Gaming in Miramichi, New Brunswick. This week I'm talking with game-designer/writer/director Neal Hallford who is working with us to create the Shakespeare's Landlord story game. Neal has been in the games industry for 27 years and has worked on many sword & sorcery RPGs most notably "Betrayal at Krondor". We talk about appreciating storytelling, yet working within the video games industry. Neal shares his background of growing up in Tulsa and being close to the Texarkana setting and world of Lily Bard's Shakespeare. Most importantly we discuss becoming Shakespeare's Champions, protecting Charlaine's voice and characters in building the interactive version of her world. To that end, Neal has gone through and counted the 226 characters that make up Harris' dramatis personae of Shakespeare. This will form the foundation of our future game development. We get closer to discussing the problematic Chapter 5 and talk about how the extreme violence has shaped the character of Lily Bard (stay tuned for next week where we deal with this head-on). And will we have so much fun that Charlaine Harris will want to write another Lily Bard book?

Hey there Word Nerds! I’m so excited because to share today's interview with you. I had the awesome chance to speak with Charlaine Harris, NYT bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series (TRUE BLOOD), the Aurora Teagarden, Harper Connelly, and Lily Bard mystery series; and the Midnight, Texas novels. Seriously, I thought my inner fangirl was about to explode. This month, Charlaine's latest Midnight, Texas novel, NIGHT SHIFT, comes out. There has never been more opportunities for writers and storytellers than ever in the history of publishing, and Episode 52 of the Kobo Writing Life Podcast demonstrates yet another amazing opportunity that exists for writers. KWL Director Mark Lefebvre interviews Jean Leggett co-founder of One More Story Games, a company from Barrie, Ontario that has developed a storytelling platform with a team of gamers, geeks, storytellers and programmers that creates a community for collaborative story game opportunities. In the interview, Mark and Jean discuss: Jean's background as a recovering Haiku addict and recovering stand-up comedian How Jean's love of storytelling combined with her husband's similar love and a computer science background and background working in the games industry led to the formation of One More Story Games The underlying concept of bringing more reading into the game space How the experience of these games is similar to the “Choose Your Own Adventure” branching narrative experiences StoryStylus – the story creation platform that helps creators break down the elements of story (such as people, places, things, relationships, conversation and dialogue, etc) that publishes to an interactive games marketplace The fact that you don't need to be a programmer to be part of creating an interactive story game and how virtually any writer could participate in this process. (With a reminder that “Beta” means “patient, early adopters”) A writer, photographer and graphic designer in Tillsonburg, Ontario (Dan Wilkins) who is writing an 8 part series for One More Story Games and involving real people, such as the town's mayor as characters in the story    The manner by which a platform like this seems ideal for mystery stories, but the manner by which science fiction and adventure stories have already been built for it The exciting announcement that One More Story Games will be working with New York Times bestselling author Charlaine Harris (author of the Sookie Stackhouse - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sookie_Stackhouse - novels which have been adapted into the True Blue television series) to adapt her novel Shakespeare's Landlord How the Charlaine Harris project will include a “behind the scenes” look at breaking the book itself into various plot points and how it was developed into the interactive storytelling experience (https://onemorestorygames.com/2016/02/16/lily-bard-online/) The idea of making smarter more casual games available to the growing demographic of women consumers in their mid 30's who are interested in and playing these types of games The concept of how a game like this demonstrates the progression of writer to narrative designer for a storyteller Recommendations on how authors who are interested in exploring these opportunities might get started     Links of Interest: One More Story Games One More Story Games on Twitter One More Story Games on Facebook Story Stylus FAQ Charlaine Harris Website   YouTube Tutorial Videos from One More Story Games

If you love wrapping yourself up in a great mystery, or feeling your heart race with a spine tingling Urban Fantasy, you've come to the right place! Thursday, September 17th at 6pm EST!  I'll welcome #1 New York Times Bestselling Author, Charlaine Harris to the show! Charlaine has been writing for over thirty years. She was born and raised in the Mississippi River Delta area. Though her early works consisted largely of poems about ghosts and teenage angst, she began writing plays, but switched to novels a few years later, and achieved publication in 1981 with Sweet and Deadly. Her later books have been in the urban fantasy genre. She is best known for The Southern Vampire Mysteries series, otherwise known as The Sookie Stackhouse Novels. Book Blurb: There is no such thing as bad publicity, except in Midnight, Texas, where the residents like to keep to themselves. Even in a town full of secretive people, Olivia Charity is an enigma. She lives with the vampire Lemuel, but no one knows what she does; they only know that she's beautiful and dangerous. Psychic Manfred Bernardo finds out just how dangerous when he goes on a working weekend to Dallas and sees Olivia there with a couple who are both found dead the next day. To make matters worse, one of Manfred's regular—and very wealthy—clients dies during a reading. Manfred returns from Dallas embroiled in scandal and hounded by the press. He turns to Olivia for help; somehow he knows that the mysterious Olivia can get things back to normal. As normal as things get in Midnight…

The anthology GAMES CREATURES PLAY is out today, April 1 — Sigler Ascension Day! To celebrate the release of this girthy tome, Scott interviews the book’s editors: Charlaine Harris and Toni L.P. Kelner. Together, this duo has edited seven anthologies. Toni is an Agatha Award-winning mystery author, and Charlaine is perhaps best known as the author of the Sookie Stackhouse series, upon which the HBO show TRUE BLOOD is based. The trio of authors discuss the GAMES anthology, as well as the challenges involved in getting genre authors — who sometimes have animosity toward athletics and the sports culture — to combine for the great tales included in this collection. Toni and Charlaine also share some of their experiences on growing up well outside the sports culture, and coming to appreciate athletics in their own ways. ABOUT GAMES CREATURES PLAY:A heavyweight-champ lineup of genre authors kick out tales of paranormal-soaked sports. Click on the cover at left to read more. Scott story in this tome is “Hunter Hunterson & The Case of the Haunted Safeway,” an all-new tale about America’s #1 monster-stompin’ clan. ABOUT SIGLER ASCENSION DAY:On April 1, 2007, Scott’s small-press paperback ANCESTOR shocked the world by hitting #1 on Amazon’s SciFi and Horror charts, and was the #2 fiction novel overall only behind a Harry Potter novel. It thereafter and hitherto became associated with Scott’s constant campaign to take over the world, destroy the publishing industry, and kill all of you. Scott’s hardcover debut, INFECTED, was released on April 1, 2008. Every April 1, he tries to release something girthy and juicy. This global holiday is recognized by the United Nations as a “Super-Important Cultural Day Thingee” and is valid as an excuse to skip work everywhere.

In this episode of Bibliophiles Anonymous, Denise and Jess talk about a serious topic. Inspired by the reactions of fans to Allegiant, the final book in Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy, we talk about the relationship between readers, books, and the authors we supposedly love. Veronica Roth has received multiple threats from fans who are upset about the ending of this trilogy. Charlaine Harris had a fan who received her book, Dead Ever After, early and posted spoilers all over the Internet in order to ruin the book for other people. The most extreme case we discuss is the reaction of all the craziness that surrounded Mercedes Lackey's Diana Tregarde series. The bottom line, folks. Be nice to people. Don't act like an idiot. Here are the links we promised: Veronica Roth's response to reader reactions to Allegiant (spoilers ahoy): http://veronicarothbooks.blogspot.com/2013/10/about-end-of-allegiant-spoilers.html Bibliofiend's article about the Veronica Roth situation (spoiler free): http://bibliofiend.com/2013/10/24/veronica-roth-briefly-responds-to-allegiant-backlash-other-authors-come-to-defense/ Tynga's article on Charlaine Harris: http://www.tyngasreviews.com/2013/05/soapboxing-readers-rights.html Mercedes Lackey's article "The Last Straw": http://ftp.pwp.att.net/m/e/megant3/abml/laststraw.html Mercedes Lackey's article "The Camel's Back": http://www.mercedeslackey.com/features_camelsback.html Remember, there will be no episode next week. Episode 43 Productions scheduling Events Production What's in my Tea Pot Materials sourcing After 5 Events 1.Wool fest June 23 & 24, 2012 at Lake farm Park Production The Juno Regina Miriam Felton back from the dead! I sat down with my charts and a stitch marker this week and tinked back the row 3 times before I found the spot where the titch was missing. I picked it up and the lace hole ma be a touch bigger than the rest but I’m back on course and in the beginning of chart # 3. This is slow going because it's not to the point of being social knitting yet. The long easy part in the middle is coming! The Hitchhiker by Martina Behm I'm doing a KAL with a friend I met at Camp Kip. We decided back on Towel Day (May 25th for all you non Douglas Adams fans out there.) I chose to knit mine from the Briar Rose yarn I bought from the Great Lakes Wool festival. I love this yarn it has a bit of nylon in it and all the garter stitches shine a bit like beads. The color way I’m using is called Sea Pearl but I had about 6 in m hands and had to pare way down. I could have spent my entire budget in that stall. The Basic Sock by Patons One sock down and one to go. I finished the first of Nichol's bday socks. Hopefully I'll get this sock to her ASAP so she can try it on. I'm a bit worried about the length. She does wear a bigger size than I do but I'm nervous I've over shot. What's In My Tea Pot Materials Sourcing A few weeks ago I caught a LOOP update on ETSY. These updates are much like trying to snag Woolmeisse or getting a Phat Fiber box. I was amazing luck because I got stuck at work on managed to get a bat while sitting in the car at Day Care. B was pretty annoyed that mom was looking at the phone and not driving but I got that bat. The bat I got is called Hint of Mint it has lavender purple, hunter green, acid green celery green, hot pink, and mint all in a 5.6 oz of Merino, corriedale, nylon, and angelina. SPARKLE! There's sparkle all through this bat. I'm down to the last of the color progressions I have the last of the hot pin and the mint green and just the plying left to go. I'm pretty sure this will be a n-ply to keep the color progression intact. I started washing my fleece this week as well. I sectioned two pieces out that would fit into one of the many dish tubs I have and pre soaked them for about 20 minutes in luke warm water. BLECH that was some dirty water. I then put the sections in old pillow cases and tried to do the washing machine method. I don't think my hot water heater gets hot enough to get the lanolin out because after 2 rinses in hot water when the fleece dried it was still very sticky. So I took a smaller piece the next day and soaked it in hotter water from my teapot and some dawn dish liquid. This seems to have gotten it but the fleece is still drying . In my impatience I did grab some of the grease fleece and test spun some locks. I had never spun in the grease before. I can see why some people think it's gross. But once my hands were already greasy what the heck. I flicked the locks open with a handy dog brush and the spun well. On my high speed bobbin I got a fingering weight single. I need much thicker for my sweater so I'm going to make some adjustments to my counter weight brake and see what I come up with. After 5 The craziness continues. The work situation is still the same for Joe and I. He got of work this weekend I got to spend Saturday desperatly calling truck drivers. Woohoo! Last week was Nate’s big 18th birthday party bash. This whole party started out because I couldn't think of something to do that was to immature for him and his friends. So I had two ideas. A city wide Geo cache scavenger hunt or Zombie tag. He picked the Geo Cache so the planning began. I drove around town and picked out 8 spots to hide the clues and that had a great picture spot nearby. I got the GPS coordinates for all of these places and encoded all of the driving directions and set up the decoding system. I ran around Saturday morning hiding the boxes. In the beginning Nate had invited his entire face book friends list and passes out fliers at school. This was about 150 invites. I was pretty worried about that but was relieved to have only gotten 20 RSV P’s. So I got a sheet cake and 2 sheet pizzas a cooler full of pop and enough “car Goodies” for 5 cars full of teens. What shows up? Nate's 5 best friends. A bit of a let down but Nate had a good time running through the city with his friends and I have some awesome pics and a TON of extra pizza and cake. I took some time out to read a book this week as well. Every may for the last couple of years brings the newest Sookie Stackhouse book. The latest is called Dead Locked. I'm pretty invested in this series but if I were a new reader I don't think I would have continued the series. I felt that Charlaine was wrapping up the series and perhaps ma have given away the answer to the big question. “Who will sookie end up with?”

Wow! We've done 10 developers chats! Blair is feeling better, but Jean is still under the weather. We start off talking about Jodie Whittaker taking on the role of the 13th Doctor Who. Then we're only one week away from our #AskCharlaine episode where we will have Charlaine Harris herself to answer questions about Lily Bard, True Blood, and her new NBC series Midnight Texas. Speaking of which, next week is the network premiere of Midnight and we talk about all of the San Diego Comicon events that have been occurring throughout the week. Charlaine has been doing so many interviews about the new series. You can explore Midnight Texas, meet Charlaine, and even meet the cast. We're getting ready to watch on Monday night and perhaps even live tweet during the event. The character from our Lily Bard series is present in Midnight, Bobo Winthorp and we quickly mention how Charlaine has to "let go" of her works when they get adapted into other media. So far she seems to approve of our take on Shakespeare, but we can talk more about that next week. In other news, we have brought on Kate Edwards as a new advisor to One More Story Games. She was the former head of the International Game Developer's Association, and a big believer in what we're doing with StoryStylus and story focused games. We're so happy to have her join our advisory board of Megan Gaiser (former CEO of Her Interactive), Alex Peh (Head of Mobile development at PayPal Canada), and Sean Smillie (Head of Planet Fiction Studios and ex-EA employee with Blair). For our new screenshot, we show off an interior and exterior graphic of the Shakespeare Garden Apartments. We have built the world for the first two chapters of the game. Now we are hooking up the choices and characters in those initial story beats that will form the playable demo of our game. On the technical front, Blair is nearly finished building the spellchecking component for StoryStylus so we can consistently spell Hofstettler. Please join us NEXT WEEK when we talk Shakespeare's Landlord with author Charlaine Harris!
