No relationship is effortless, but when these two met, everything just clicked! Both were already happy and thriving on their own, totally in love with themselves and their lives. They had even reached the point of thinking, If this is as good as it gets, I'm totally okay with that! Brooks was on the lookout for her person, while Paul was wondering if he was even datable—and fate (or rather, Bumble) brought them together after both had gone through divorces. What happened next? Well, that's where this beautiful love story begins!
“In reality, we're all complex people with feelings and our own sets of baggage. I do think we are very good at self-sabotage, all of us. It's a very easy road to go down. It's safe because it's comfortable, and we know it. When you can find the ways you self-sabotage and try to stop that, it will hopefully lead to a happier life and things that are meaningful. When I was in my late twenties, I got out of a serious relationship and kind of reentered the dating scene. I was shocked by the simplification of a lot of complicated feelings around dating and how women are so easily labeled crazy, and men are so easily labeled assholes.”Sophie Brooks is a London-born, Brooklyn-based writer and director. Welcome to an audio-led edition of Unmade.Today's edition of the podcast features Colin Lewis, retail media evangelist and global marketing consultant. Further down, a particularly good day for Domain on The Unmade Index. The only way to access Unmade's full archive, and our weekly Tuesdata analysis, is as a paying member. Unmade members also get discounted tickets to our events, including our retail media conference Re:Made, which takes place next month.‘The media business is a different game to retailing'Ahead of his appearance at next month's REmade conference, we talk to retail media evangelist and global consultant Colin Lewis about the state of play locally and globally. In the conversation with REmade curator Cat McGinn, Lewis says Australia can lay claim to being among the most sophisticated retail media markets in the world. He cites the media backgrounds of Coles360 boss Paul Brooks and Woolworths Cartology boss Mike Tyquin as key to the growth of the emerging sector. The duo both had deep media backgrounds until they moved across to the retail world. Brooks is a former CEO of Dentsu's Carat and former Sydney sales director for Nine; Tyquin ran outdoor companies Adshel and Eye. That's a mix not necessarily replicated in other markets.According to Lewis: “Setting up an ad network is actually the smallest part of the whole thing. The real thing is that you're in the media business - and the media business it's a different game to retailing.“This is one area where the Australian market is ahead of anyone else. I've worked with a lot of brands in the UK and they haven't quite worked out that ‘the game I'm in, is the media business'. But if you look at the two biggest retail media brands in Australia - Coles and Woolworths, they're led by media people - people who understand media and come from a media background.“Australia is punching above its weight and probably second in the world in terms of its forward thinking and its approach.”Lewi, who is the author of six best practice reports on retail media, focusing on Amazon, Walmart, Kroger, Target, and Instacart also writes a regular column for our RE:Made newsletter. His clients include the likes of Ferrero Rocher, Glambia, Colgate, and retailer clients like Superdrug, The Very Group, and Warehouse Group.During the conversation, Lewis also tackles the imminent arrival of Nine into the space with its RTLX play, announced at their Upfronts earlier this month. According to Lewis, he has “question marks” about the move. And he also addresses the growing presence of Amazon and offers a theory on how it has taken its hold . “We've got some new data showing that Amazon Prime is really far and away leading the pack in terms of TV on demand. It's almost as though Amazon has built it backwards. They've started with a marketplace and they've traveled up the funnel.”RE:Made returns to Sydney on October 11. Along with Lewis, Brooks and Tyquin are all among the confirmed speakers. Tickets are on sale now.Stronger performance across the Unmade IndexSeja Al Zaidi writes:It was a solid day across the board on the Unmade Index yesterday, our measurement system of ASX-listed media and marketing stocks. Welcome to an audio-led edition of Unmade in which we share the final session of last week's RE:Made - Retail Media Unmade conference. Last week's RE:Made closed with a landmark panel. For the first time, the bosses of the retail media networks for Australia's biggest two supermarkets shared the same stage.Mike Tyquin, managing director of Woolworths' Cartology; Paul Brooks, general manager of Coles360; Pippa Leary, MD of client product for News Corp; and Melissa Wyness, chief media and operating officer of Mercato, joined a conversation moderated by Unmade's Tim Burrowes. The session marked the end of a day when Australia's nascent retail media community came together for the first time. The conversation focused on what the retail media industry needs to do to go on building from here, and also shared some favourable comparisons on the market's progress locally, compared to other major markets.During the conversation, Leary dropped some hints about how News Corp sees itself fitting into the retail media landscape (“the retail media network when you don't have a retail media network”).The panel also debated the changed retailer-supplier power dynamic created by retail media networks, and how media agencies fit into the conversation, addressing the question of who pays for the lunch?A further question was whether media agencies have now left it too late to get involved. Notably some agency groups were heavily represented at the event, while others appeared to have missed the memo. For those interested in carrying on the conversation, we've created a Retail Media ANZ Linkedin Group. Anyone is welcome to join.Audio production of today's podcast was courtesy of Abe's Audio, the people to talk to about voiceovers and sound design for corporate videos, digital content, commercials and podcasts.tim@unmade.media This is a public episode. "Who I Am in Christ" Hebrews 12 - January 13, 2023 - Paul Brooks Read Here: https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/HEB.12.NIV . Welcome to the Daily SOAP from New Hope. This is Paul Brooks, your guest host for today. I hope you are having a good day. Today we will explore Hebrews 12:1-3. It actually refers back to Hebrews 11, considered to be the “Hall of Fame” of faith. I encourage you to read both chapters 11 and 12. January 13, 2023 Read Hebrews 12:1-3 Scripture – Hebrews 12:1-3: 1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Each verse of this passage speaks to me in its own right. Verse 1 paints a glorious picture of the saints surrounding us and cheering us on every step of our lives. Like a marathon runner, we move among them and they offer us encouragement, refreshment, prayer, and if we falter, they stay with us, through the finish line. Next time you bow your head in prayer, consider that around you are the likes of Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Gideon, Samson, David, and the prophets. Not only those, but I also envision my parents, my friends who have passed on. A great cloud of witnesses, indeed! “Throw off everything that hinders you”, they say. Verse 2 reminds us that Jesus is in that crowd, too. We are to fix our eyes on Him who sacrificed everything for our salvation, died for us, rose again, and ascended into Heaven, where he is seated at the right hand of God the Father. And he prays for us as believers, as recounted in John 17:20-26. Verse 3 challenges us to consider his victory over the sin of this world, so that we do not grow weary and lose heart. He is the perfect picture of how we should strive to live, and the promise of our ultimate hope. And collectively, they help me focus on an important word for all of us: Perseverance. Jesus told us, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” The history of Christianity, going all the way back to Eden, is a history of persevering through trouble. The challenges we face today are a continuation of the challenge of this world. But we are to carry on. Two memories come to mind. The first is that old children's hymn, which my Mom had us sing at her celebration of life, that starts out, “I sing a song of the saints of God “Patient and brave and true, “Who toiled and fought and lived and died “For the Lord they loved and knew. “And one was a doctor, and one was a queen, “And one was a shepherdess on the green: “They were all of them saints of God – and I mean, “God helping, to be one too.” The second is my most enduring verse from the Bible, Romans 5:1-5. It hit my heart when my Dad was placed in the care of hospice, and was a source of discussion between us about faith, about suffering, and about hope. “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Dad persevered through 18 months before going on to glory. So, as we face the challenges of this world, remember the amazing cloud of witnesses cheering us on. Remember the hope they promise us if we just persevere. Remember the character we are building as we run the race and strive to be part of that cloud for eternity. And there are more, right here on earth, cheering us on. As the song ends: “You can meet them in school, or in lanes, or at sea, “In church, or in trains, or in shops, or at tea, “For the saints of God are just folks like me, “And I mean to be one too.” Let's pray. Almighty God, thank you for the grace you have given us through Jesus Christ. As this world poses challenges, help us remember that great cloud of witnesses cheering us on. Help us keep the faith and persevere through the turmoil and strife of this world, remaining focused on Jesus. And help us all, even as broken as we are, be a saint of God for those around us. Amen. Paul Brooks . https://www.findnewhope.com Our staff and leadership employ what's called the “S.O.A.P. Method”. It stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Today's Scripture: https://www.bible.com/en-GB/bible/111/LUK.16.NIV Welcome to the Daily SOAP from New Hope. This is Paul Brooks, your guest host for today. I hope you are having a good day. Today we will explore Luke 16. If you haven't read it yet, you might want to do so now. I will be focusing on Luke 16:1-15 and, specifically, Luke 16:9 from the NIV version. Scripture – Luke 16:9: [Jesus said,] “I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.” I am drawing here a passage from The Parable of the Shrewd Manager. Let me set the stage. We learned in Luke 15:1-2 the following: 1Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” We can surmise from a passage later in Luke 16 that The Parable of the Shrewd Manager was shared at this same time. So, Jesus is speaking to the detestable tax collectors and other sinners (like us) and is teaching about “true” wealth versus “earthly” wealth while the Pharisees sneer at Him. Like some other parables, this one made me think twice. In it, a rich man calls in the manager of his estate, accuses him of wasting his possessions, and summarily fires him. The manager, worried about his future, then proceeds to contact his master's debtors and forgive large portions of their debts. He does this to curry favor, hoping that his future will be better for that favor. These are debts owed to his master, not to him personally. In our world, this would set off a string of police filings, lawsuits, legal expenses, social media rampaging, and overall ugliness. Yet in this lesson, the master actually commends the manager for these actions because he had acted shrewdly. Jesus goes on to say, “8For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. 9I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.” What is Jesus saying to us here? This sounds confusing. I think he is contrasting our way of life as “People of the world” with the life we should lead as “People of the light”: Our Earthly World – “People of the world” Shrewdness often means figuring out how to get more out of others for our own benefit. Take care of yourself at others' expense. The Goal is to attain worldly wealth and other “valuables”. Jesus's Perfect World – “People of the light” Shrewdness is blessing others who, like us, have debts to pay – just as He blessed us and forgave our debts through his birth, death, and resurrection. Take care of yourself by living like Jesus. The Goal is to follow His Commandments and Example, and so attain eternal life with Him. On its face, this seems to be a money-related lesson. Jesus ends this parable as follows: 13 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” But there is more to this lesson than simply money. Luke goes on to write in verses 14 and 15: 14The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 15[Jesus] said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable to God.” This, in my opinion, goes well beyond money. What did the Pharisees value, and what does our society still value, in addition to money? We value respect. We value status. We value power. We value consideration. We value positive feedback. We value like-mindedness. We value things that build us up on the eyes of other human beings. We lock them in the treasure chest of our souls. Sometimes we count them. And where we have been “slighted” or “shorted” or “affronted”, we write that down and track it as one of those worldly debts. It's all part of our personal “portfolio” … our “treasures.” But what does Jesus tell us to value? The list is long, but it starts here, from Matthew 22:37-40: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like unto it, love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” In this season of Christmas, as we approach that glorious day after tomorrow when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, maybe we should take a minute and think about those “treasures.” Who owes us a worldly “debt”. Who do we hold accountable for any of those worldly assets? How can we forgive them of that burden, thus unburdening ourselves in the process? Wouldn't you treasure the gift of “forgiveness” by someone you had offended in some manner? I know I would. After all, God gave us the greatest gift of all – full free forgiveness and a welcome into “eternal dwellings” with Him. As Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-20: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I invite you to pray this with me. Almighty and most merciful Father. I am too quick to focus my attention on the treasures of this world. I store them in the vault of my soul and pull them out and count them as valuable items. These “assets” include the “debts” I perceive others “owe” me. Like money or status, I pull them out from time to time and recount them, often to make myself feel better, or more “righteous” in some way. But, in reality, they tear me down. Doing so is not what you command of me – to love others as myself. I am sorry and I want to do better. Please forgive me and help me be more like you. As you forgive me, let me also forgive others of these worldly things, and in doing so glorify you. And, even more so, let me be a blessing to my neighbors in other ways. Let me be part of your ministries, bringing your Gospel, your help, your love to all who need them. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, help me remember that you came to be with us that we might know you, to listen to us, to walk in our shoes, to care for us, to teach us, to die for us, and through your resurrection, to live with us now and through eternity. I pray this in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. This has been the Daily SOAP from New Hope. We hope you will join us to celebrate the birth of Jesus on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning or both. But wherever you are, Celebrate! God is with us!! God is with you!!! Rejoice!!!! I'll leave you with a poem by Phillips Brooks titled, Christmas Everywhere. Everywhere, everywhere, Christmas tonight! Christmas in the lands of the fir-tree and pine, Christmas in the lands of the palm-tree and vine, Christmas where snow peaks stand solemn and white, Christmas where the cornfields stand sunny and bright. Christmas where children are hopeful and gay, Christmas where old men are patient and gray, Christmas where peace, like a dove in flight, Broods o'er brave men in the thick of the fight; Everywhere, everywhere, Christmas tonight! For the Christ-child who comes is the master of all; No palace too great, no cottage too small. Paul Brooks . . . . . We hope you have a blessed Christmas! We invite you to worship with us this Christmas Eve at one of our Worship services, Saturday, December 24th at 3, 5, or 7 pm, in-person or online at https://www.findnewhope.com . And Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25th in English or Spanish at 11 am in-person or online. Go to findnewhope.com to plan your visit! Our staff and leadership employ what's called the “S.O.A.P. Method”. It stands for Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. Each day, we read one or two chapters of Scripture and focus on one particular verse. We make some observations about how that verse touches us, discern how it applies to our lives, and offer a prayer related to what we have read. -- Donate via PayPal to support the podcasts and the Technical Arts Ministry of New Hope! https://goo.gl/o2a9oU Subscribe at: http://www.findnewhope.com/soap (813) 689-4161 keywords: devotional, bible study

#blessed: From persecution to partnership in the Gospel. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matt 5:10 What does persecution look like in the world today? What should our response be? In 2018, the C&MA Canada decided together to re-engage in a large country in South Asia with a population that will outnumber China by 2025. A place where Christianity is the target of intense discrimination and persecution. Home to almost 40% of the least reached people groups of the world. It is the most diverse and complex nation in the world with over 2,000 ethnic groups, 1,700 languages and 40% of the world's poorest people. But what does it mean for us as a denomination – a family of churches – to partner together in the gospel? What should missions look like now. We are still called to “Go” – but what does “Going” look like in these days? In Philippians, Paul refers to the church as being “partners in spreading the good news”. How can we live that out together in the 21st century? Paul Brooks
If the lockdown hit retail everywhere in the world in 2020 and 2021 is big news, there is another interesting trend happening more quietly in ecommerce. TO put it simply: despite the massive growth in Amazon sales - or possibly because of it - ecommerce sellers now have more to lose than ever before from Amazon account suspensions. And they are getting ever more frustrated with the lack of customer data from Amazon. The natural next step is to set up your own Shopify or Direct to Consumer (DTC) site. But what if there are other options that could move as many units - or possibly many more - and bring big profits? Step forward the B2B business to business model of selling your products to retailers, most of whom will have a physical store or network of physical retail locations. While not common and not as easy to start as the classic Shopify move, this has many upsides for someone with good product development abilities and or a great product. Today's guest, Paul Brooks, explores with Michael what the upsides are of this approach; and how to start approaching retailers successfully. You'll Learn: If Brick and Mortar have a future and what it will look like Why we still need B&M and not just online stores How to sell B&M to retailers The attractive qualities of B&M Comparing online and offline buyer experience How to drive a person to discover that product Physical Retailer vs Product Developer How social media drives traffic How to sell experience in a physical store

If there's been one feature of lockdown life that has hit headlines everywhere in the world in 2020 and 2021, it's the fate of the high street. To read the press, watch TV or follow social media in North America, Europe, Australia/NZ or anywhere else in the Developed nations, it seems as if the physical retail/brick and mortar stores are dead and buried as a business model. Today's guest, Paul Brooks, not only disagrees, he sees a huge retail renaissance coming. But rather than thinking about the traditional bricks and mortar vs “e-commerce” divide, Paul has a different view on where the future of retail lies. Paul is based in the UK and is an expert on Retail trends in the UK but nearly all the lessons will apply to retailers anywhere in the globe.
