Plus, she shares her top 3 tips for optimal health.  Key Takeaways: - Taking care of your body is essential for skin health. - 10 minutes of exercise can be effective. - Quality of exercise is more important than quantity. - Women face challenges in gaining muscle as they age. - Resistance training can be achieved through various forms of exercise. - Prioritizing protein intake is crucial for muscle maintenance. - Added sugars are often hidden in processed foods. - Carbohydrates are not inherently bad; it's about the type. - Balance and moderation are key in nutrition. - Making the next best decision is vital for health. Gut health is supported by prebiotics and mindful eating. - Modeling positive body image is crucial for children. - Moderation in alcohol consumption can lead to weight loss. - Mocktails can be a healthy alternative to alcoholic drinks. - Strength training can be effective with just 10 minutes, three times a week. - Cardio should be enjoyable, not a weight loss strategy. - Aim for at least 5,000 steps a day for health benefits. - Creatine can be beneficial for women, especially in midlife. - GLP-1 agonists can help those with metabolic dysfunction. - Mindset is essential in achieving health goals. Unlike other medical editors who spent years as a paid medical writer, Jennifer parlayed her involvement in a professional society and unpaid writing to land her new editor position. Jennifer is a Board-Certified Podiatric Physician and Surgeon with 14 years of clinical experience. She received her DPM degree from the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. Then she completed a three-year residency in podiatric medicine at Christian Care Health System. Over the next few months, Dean's Chat will be providing bonus episodes interviewing students from the Schools and Colleges of Podiatric Medicine. This week we are joined by three students from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (TUSPM), Mark Gabriel from the Class of 2025.  Nigora Jurabaeva and Tyler Daley are in the Class of 2027.  All three represent the American Podiatric Medical Students Association (APMSA) within TUSPM.   This episode is sponsored by Bako Diagnostics!   Join our discussions each week on the podiatric journey our students are embarking on at the various schools. Students share their path to discovering podiatric medicine, to applying to what is now eleven schools and colleges of podiatric medicine, to the first and second year of didactics, Boards Part 1 and 2, and clinical experiences and opportunities. We do some professor shout-outs and discuss student services, extracurricular activities, and student life at each school. Enjoy!   In this episode, Drs. Jensen and Richey and the students discuss the significance of shadowing various health professionals to determine career preferences and find satisfaction in their chosen field.  The hosts specifically mention that podiatrists tend to be very happy with their careers due to the wide range of specialization options available to them. They explain that podiatrists can focus on areas they truly enjoy, which contributes to their overall job satisfaction.   The students mention their personal experiences with shadowing and how it influenced their career decisions.  The students emphasize the importance of shadowing multiple specialties to determine personal preferences. They emphasize that understanding other specialties is valuable even for those pursuing podiatry, as it helps in comprehending the body's other systems and treating patients holistically.   The students note that many podiatrists they have worked with and shadowed are incredibly satisfied with their careers. While they acknowledge that satisfaction can be found in other specialties as well, they observe this as a common theme within the podiatry profession. They also mention that students from all schools of podiatric medicine are incredibly happy with their choice to pursue podiatry.   In this episode, we discuss the importance of students taking advantage of opportunities for involvement and support from organizations like APMSA. They emphasize that being involved in organizations like APMSA allows students to have a voice and make a change at the national level. They mention that APMSA provides various opportunities for students, such as hosting webinars on different topics like mental health and clerkship advice.    Overall, the episode emphasizes the benefits of shadowing different health professionals to help students determine their career preferences and find satisfaction in their chosen field. It underscores the importance of exploring various specialties, including podiatry, and understanding different aspects of healthcare to make informed decisions.   https://www.apmsa.org/ https://bakodx.com/ https://bmef.org/ www.explorepodmed.org https://podiatrist2be.com/ https://higherlearninghub.com/

The eyebrow plays a vital role in how we express our emotions, so it's no surprise that many people seek solutions when their brows start to droop, flatten, and lose their shape. The horror stories you may have heard about brow lift are nothing to worry about today, as techniques have greatly improved over the years. Longevity is difficult when it comes to the brows as you're constantly battling gravity. Luckily today, injectables and energy treatments postpone the need for surgical intervention and can in turn help maintain surgical results much longer. Brow lift is a highly customizable treatment. Brow position and shape for men and women are much different, so specific techniques are used to preserve gender identity. Depending on how low the hooding is, a brow lift may be done in combination with a blepharoplasty.  Facial plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Bloom returns to the podcast with Dr. Bass to discuss how brow lift surgery has improved over the years, the most common techniques they use today, and how to decide if a brow lift, blepharoplasty, or both is right for you.   About Jason Bloom, MD Located in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Dr. Jason Bloom is a double board certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon.  He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Otorhinolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and Clinical Assistant Professor (Adjunct) of Dermatology at the Temple University School of Medicine. She did a fellowship in Limb Salvage and Reconstructive Surgery at Northeast Regional Foot and Ankle Institute. Her passion for education is evident as Dr. Nasser is the Program Director for the Geisinger Community Medical Center and is one of approximately 15% of female Program Directors in the country. We also discuss fellowships, the current trends, the benefits, which residents benefit the most. Overall, the field of podiatric medicine offers a range of career paths that allow practitioners to specialize in specific areas and provide specialized care to patients. Whether it's wound care, trauma, hospitalist-based podiatry, or other options, podiatrists have the opportunity to pursue their interests and make a significant impact in the field. Dr. Nasser emphasizes the significance of being intentional and selective when it comes to saying yes or no to various opportunities. She highlights the fact that every yes inherently means saying no to something else. Therefore, when we choose to say yes to one commitment or opportunity, we are inevitably saying no to others. Reflecting on her own journey,  Dr. Nasser discusses how she learned to say no and prioritize her own happiness and fulfillment. Initially, she said yes to everything, but eventually realized that it was impossible to continue doing so. This realization prompted her to reflect on what truly brings her joy and fulfillment, both personally and professionally. A great discussion with an educational leader and mentor to many in our profession! In this episode of Dean's Chat, Dr. Jeffrey Jensen is joined by Dr. Karana Mason, Vice Dean at the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. They discuss Dr. Mason's extensive experience in the educational space of podiatric medicine and her role as the vice dean. Dr. Mason describes her position as a project manager at Scholl College. Tune in to learn more about the evolving educational system in podiatric medicine. In the episode, Dr. Jensen and Dr. Mason discuss the shift in the emphasis of the educational system in podiatric medicine. Previously, the surgical aspect of podiatry was somewhat limited, and only a select few were able to pursue it. However, the focus has now shifted towards ensuring that all professionals in the field of podiatric medicine and surgery reach a certain level of competence. This means that all podiatrists must be proficient in surgical procedures and consistently perform at their best in the operating room. This change in emphasis has also led to adjustments in the curriculum. The curriculum has been modified to reflect the new expectation that all podiatrists should receive training in surgery. While there may still be discussions about whether an individual wants to specialize in surgery, the expectation is that all podiatrists will acquire surgical skills. Dr. Jensen and Dr. Mason discuss how this shift in the educational system is likely driven by the goal of unifying the profession of podiatric medicine and surgery. In the past, there may have been a division between those who focused on medicine and those who focused on surgery. However, the current emphasis is on the fact that podiatrists are both medical professionals and surgeons. This change has likely resulted in a more comprehensive and standardized education for all podiatrists, regardless of their specific interests or career goals within the field. https://explorepodmed.org/ Dean's Chat Website Dean's Chat Episodes Dean's Chat Blog Why Podiatric Medicine?  Become a Podiatric Physician
