Meet Hunter and Elizabeth Dennison! These High School Sweethearts have traveled many roads together so far.  But really, they've moved a lot.  So much so, it's hard to even keep track of the time they've spent in each place.  However, they are two people who make an impact wherever they go.They also have a very non-typical setup calling wise.  Elizabeth is in the final year of her medical training as a Pediatric Resident.  She spends the majority of her time at the hospital right now, as her job requires up to 80 hours per week.  Hunter is a Youth Pastor. He spends the majority of his time around High Schoolers.  Both callings require so much time, energy, and effort.. so what is the balance? Well the Dennisons are all about the “Rhythms” of life.  They share what these look like for their young family amidst all the other things requiring their attention daily.  No matter the task or calling of the day, these two are all about WHO they serve.  It will be evident to you every minute of this hour spent with them.  At the end in the BIO section, we discuss their quirks.  Let's just say we haven't heard these yet on the podcast. You will love the Dennisons!

Immunizations are a critical component of the well child management in pediatric patients, as they are responsible for the prevention of numerous serious diseases with devastating consequences even if adequately treated. While many providers are well versed in the standard immunization schedule for children, the care and management of under-immunized children may present itself a challenge. Join Dr. Shreeti Kapoor, a general pediatrician for over 25 years, and recent Pediatric Resident graduate, Dr. Monique Bailey as they discuss caring for under-immunized children. Specifically, they will: Review the recommended vaccination schedule for all children, with a focus on those aged 0-4 years. Discuss the CDC catch-up immunization schedule with examples from three different age groups. Consider the special case of catch-up vaccination for international adoptees as well as interpreting records containing other immunizations (e.g. BCG vaccine) from a few examples of international endemic areas. Review common causes of febrile illnesses in young, vaccinated and under-immunized children. Examine the treatment algorithm and recommended prophylactic antibiotic options for unvaccinated or under-immunized children. In this episode of Healthy Chats, Amy and her guests discuss the importance of diversity in medicine, specifically as it relates to inequity in health care for Black Americans and practices that can be taken to bridge that health care divide in communities of color.Last fall, The Survey on Race and Health, a joint project between Kaiser Family Foundation and ESPN's The Undefeated, explored the public's views and experiences on the topics of health care, racial discrimination, and the coronavirus pandemic, with a special focus on Black adults, a group that has borne a disproportionate burden of COVID-19 cases and deaths. That survey found that 7 in 10 Black Americans believe that people are treated unfairly based on race or ethnicity when they seek medical care.HealthCorps mission and steps taken since the organization's inception is to combat inequity in healthcare.  To that point, 55% of HealthCorps' coordinators have gone into medical or health professions.  And while not all HealthCorps coordinators are of color, they have all worked with communities of color, with a goal of providing long-term awareness of the communities they serve.Joining Amy for this important discussion are two health care activists, working to address these inequities and are truly the future of medicine.Jasmyne Jackson, is a former HealthCorps Coordinator at the Ginn Academy in Cleveland, Ohio.  Jasmyne received her Medical Degree and her MBA from the University of Michigan, where she also served as president of the Black Medical Association which focuses on health care disparities, education activism, and mentorship. When you think of design, you think of marketing, business, commerce, products, and probably architecture. The last place you'd expect to find a global design company is at a digital orthopedics conference. What is a global design brand doing in a DocSF summit, especially one that's focused on Covid19? Design thinking enhances creativity, and we all need a spark of creativity to come up with innovative solutions. In this DocSF scenario, host Dr. Stefano Bini thought bringing design to health leaders' audience would encourage creativity in implementing digital solutions. The amazing IDEO team offered to provide a creative solution for a COVID19 related concern. Dennis Boyle and Talya Brettler made the exciting presentation. They discuss design sprint, IDEO's unique brainstorming technique, framing questions with AMW questions, collaboration, and leveraging technology to develop innovative solutions. From apps that ensure you are following social distancing to a product that detects dirt after hand washing, all the concepts presented are interesting. Tune in and find out what other amazing designs were discussed in today's podcast! About today's Guests: Dennis Boyle Dennis Boyle is a Partner and a founding member of IDEO. He leads the Health and Wellness practice, which works with clients in the medical and consumer health-care industries to develop innovative products and strategies for promoting healthful living and behavior change. Dennis is also a consulting assistant professor or the Design Division of Stanford University's Mechanical Engineering School. He also teaches "Design for Better Health" at the d.school, which draws students from each of the university's graduate schools. Dennis completed Mechanical Engineering Degree with an emphasis on Industrial Design from the University of Notre Dame. He is married to Peggy Burke, founder of 1185 Design, and has two sons. This is the second half of the podcast with the brilliant IDEO team. In the first part, Dennis Boyle and Talya Brettler walked us through the design sprint process. If you missed the first session, you might want to go back and listen to it first. In this episode, Shawna joins Dennis and Talya in the discussion. They talk about the impact of COVID-19 on innovations. Dennis shares a staggering number of successful online solutions, from the simple DIY mask to the complicated telehealth directory. The Covid19 pandemic is pushing people to fill various needs. There's an excellent deal of remarkable response by innovators. Inventiveness and ingenuity came out of difficulty. It reminds me of the proverb, 'Necessity is the mother of invention.' IDEO's design sprint goes beyond just creating a solution. It is creating a solution that is human-centered and empathy-driven. It considers the human experience and therefore creates products that will add value to human health. Tune in and listen to the stimulating discussion among three exceptional conversationalists!   Today's Guests: Dennis Boyle Dennis Boyle is a Partner and a founding member of IDEO.
