Send us a textJohn Hodgman has made a wonderful career out of telling us things that are not true: as the “Resident Expert” and then “Deranged Millionaire” on The Daily Show and the author of three fun books of fake trivia. His warm and clever wit are on display each week on the podcast Judge John Hodgman. He is a thoughtful and compelling interview, especially when discussing his early influences, including the TV show Dr. Who, the writer Jorge Luis Borges and a Peter Cook/Dudley Moore comedy bit that “reshaped” his brain. It all started in a Brookline, Massachusetts home where his parents allowed his creative side to flourish, And it's never stopped.

In this episode, host Michael Semanchik is joined by Raquel Barilla, former Staff Attorney and Volunteer Coordinator at the California Innocence Project; Alissa Bjerkhoel, former Litigation Coordinator at the California Innocence Project; and Alex Simpson, former Associate Director and Resident Expert for Evidence Preservation at the California Innocence Project. Together, they discuss methods for preserving evidence. Tune in to learn what to do if the unthinkable happens.

"How can we collectively increase the quantity and quality of giving to nonprofits, to charities, so that they can raise more awareness, raise more funds, deliver more impact in their communities?"If there's a question that defines Lightful's work, I think Vinay shares it in this.My guest on the Karmic Capitalist podcast this week is Vinay Nair, co-founder and CEO of Lightful. Lightful uses technology to accelerate impact in the social impact sector. He'd just returned from an uplifting conference with the Gates Foundation (took some prodding to get this out - no easy namedrop from Nair!), and he shares with us how that works, and the amplification of good that comes from it.Having a for-profit organisation whose clients are mostly nonprofit can be quite a tightrope to walk, and Vinay shares how Lightful "positively correlate ours income and impact" and the importance of that positive correlation being structural to avoid conflict of interest.Vinay is also Resident Expert at the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship at the Saïd Business School (that's some mouthful!), and I probe into what he's seeing in the generation that is coming through Saïd.His shares an uplifting observation. When he's doing a session with students on impact investing or tech for good, they'll pretty much retort "of course, what else - Tech for bad? Non impactful investing?".For them, the default language is "as if it were ever thus or certainly how it must be from today going forward. And I find that powerful inspirational.Vinay is a thoughtful advocate. We run the gamut of business doing good and being profitable, of being a for-profit serving the nonprofit sector, the role of values, and much more. He's an engaging conversationalist. Listen in to this episode of the Karmic Capitalist._______________I host a weekly online workshop with CEOs of SMEs (10 to 100 employees approx) about scaling up, allowing them to step back and do more strategic work, and doing it in line with their values. Max 6 per session so we can have a real conversation. If you'd like to join me, find a date that works for you here. They aren't charged for - you and I will both get value from the conversation.Only CEOs / MDs apply - strictly peer-level conversation.

Tyler McCall has established herself as an indispensable fashion figure. As a staunch proponent of inclusive sizing years before it was the norm, Tyler's main focus has been on the issues which are changing and shaping the fashion business to be more inclusive. With extensive knowledge of fashion, pop culture, and beauty, Tyler is the Editor-In-Chief of Fashionista.com, a website regarded as one of the most influential voices covering fashion news, criticism, and career advice for the industry and influential fashion-focused consumers. She's come a long way from her days as an undergrad at the University of Florida, where she used to leave comments on the site religiously. She now continues to leave her mark, expanding readers' minds on what can be fashionable beyond the typical margins of the industry. Prior to being the Editor-In-Chief at Fashionista.com, McCall spent most of her career rising in the ranks at the platform. From being an intern, editorial assistant to senior associate editor, Tyler's fashion interest eventually led her to a brief experience as Digital Fashion Editor at Teen Vogue and Social Media Manager at Vogue, before returning back to Fashionista.com as Deputy Editor. During her climb, she learned some valuable lessons, all of which she shares in this episode. As a loyal fan of Gossip Girl, she now channels that dedicated energy into #WaldorfWednesdays, a recurring series dedicated to Blair Waldorf's style, and #SerenaSaturdays, devoted to Serena van der Woodsen's style on her Instagram. After becoming an expert on the subject, she was invited to lend a hand when the show rebooted, proving that your fan passion can lead to unique opportunities. *** This episode of LEAVE YOUR MARK is brought to you by Madison Reed, the hair color company revolutionizing the way women color their hair. Hello there my name is Darren Campbell and this is a conversation from a podcast called Complete Sports Media. We hope that you enjoy it and come back regularly for great in depth discussions on a variety of sports topics. This interview from our podcast features a great guest Jason Cameron. Jason is a former athlete and broadcast journalism alum. He brings an experitse on many sports especially combat sports, NFL, and NBA. We love his enthusiasm, humour, and strong opinions on the sporting world. Enjoy this weeks episode that comes on the heels of another UFC card and looking ahead to other sports getting back to business. We started discussing the UFC 250 card from Las Vegas that featured a main event dominated by the two weight class champion Amanda Nunes. She was defending her women's Featherweight belt agains a very tough but over matched contender, Canadian Felicia Spencer. Jason had great observations and impressive take on the three men's Batamweight fights on the card that really started clering up the picture in the weight class. Henry Cejudo defended his belt and then surprisingly retired after his fight at UFC 249. This left the majority of the top fighters in the weight class knowing so much more was riding on these fights to show if they were contenders or pretenders. Huge knockouts by Cody Garbrandt and Sean OMalley and a slick and swift submission by Aljimain Sterling were all discussed and admired. There was talk of the dominance of Justin Gaethje from UFC 249 and we also capped off our MMA talk happily rejoicing over George St. Pierre getting nominated for the Hall of Fame during that same card. Much love and respect to a true pioneer of one of the greatest to ever grace the Octagon. Our focus then shifted to the unfortunate murder of George Floyd and the shocking reversal of opinion from Roger Goodell the Commissioner of the NFL. Goodell had posted a message a few days before stating how the NFL had been wrong in their handling of the protests and kneeling to shed light on racism, police brutality and racial inequality in the past. He vowed they would do better and support the cause now moving forward. It was a great moment and showed that the protests had really gained traction and might have finally reached a tipping point and could invoke change. It was good to also look ahead to an interesting upcoming NFL season. Speaking of upcoming seasons that was part of the discussion when we spoke of the NBA. There is a sense of excitement about the new parody and possibility of new teams emerging in the power struggle at the top. There was talk also of the teams in the West that will be fighting it out for the eighth and final playoff spot. The Memphis Grizzlies currently occupy the 8th and final spot with 5 teams in the hunt chasing them for the final 8 game regular season stretch drive. The super rookie point guard Ja Morant should solidify his hold on the rookie of the year trophy if his team can hold off the other teams. However one of the teams chasing the Grizzlies is the New Orleans Pelicans with their own phenomenal rookie Zion Williamson. if he can deliver a playoff spot for his team he might just win that trophy himself despite missing a huge chunk at the start of the abbreviated season. It will be fun to watch! Finally we discussed Boxing and the first card scheduled after the pandemic. The amazingly talented Shakur Stevenson was about to take on another challenger as he works his way towards the upper echelon of the pound for pound best in the sport. It was a great discussion all around as the time flew by and we were thrilled to get back to some sense of normalcy in our lives. This is for your viewing and listening pleasure we would love to hear your feedback.

John Hodgman (returns!) - Episode 72Hello Everyone! The very first guest on 15 Minutes was John Hodgman (and we’ll be reposting that episode right after this one). Back in Fall of 2015, we spoke for a nearly exact 15 Minutes (the only full episode with a guest that’s actually anywhere near that short, most are around an hour - yes, yes, but the name of the show, we know, we know). When I heard about his new book Medallion Status (pub. date 10/15/19!), which John describes as “your basic minor fame to no fame Hollywood memoir with some peeks into the secret clubs and hidden rooms that celebrity allowed me briefly to peek into,” I knew it was time to have him back, and this time we talked a whole lot longer. For those of you who don’t know him, and yes, Hodgmaniacs, there are those folks out there:JOHN HODGMAN is a writer, comedian, and actor. Most recently, he is the author of the acclaimed collection of funny true stories called VACATIONLAND. He also wrote three books of fake facts and invented trivia, all of them New York Times Bestsellers, and his writing has also appeared in The Paris Review, This American Life, The New Yorker, and Mad Magazine. After an appearance to promote his books on “The Daily Show,” he was invited to return as a contributor, serving as the show’s “Resident Expert” and “Deranged Millionaire.”For the past nine years, he’s also been the host of the popular Judge John Hodgman podcast, where he settles serious disputes between real people. He also contributes a weekly column under the same name for The New York Times Magazine. He’s also the host of the viral Instagram-live sensation Get Your Pets! with John Hodgman in which he talks to animals and their people in a live broadcast, while perhaps occasionally plugging his new book Medallion Status (http://bit.ly/MEDALLIONSTATUS) every so often.Over nearly an hour and a half, we talked a lot about the book and those rooms and clubs, his previous book, Vacationland, fame as addiction, adjusting and appreciating life as one’s status inevitably declines over time (We also go into how white men are handling the reality of their/our inevitably declining status), and why it’s really important for authors that readers pre-order their books if possible, and which you should do if you’re so inclined and you’re reading this before 10/15/19, and you should be so inclined, because Medallion Status and John Hodgman will make your life better. Where can you go to pre-order, you may ask? Why http://bit.ly/MEDALLIONSTATUS, that’s where! My short plug: Like Vacationland, the book (and this 15 Minutes episode) is funny in ways many know John to be, as well as moving and contemplative in ways you might not expect. I gave it five starts on Good Reads.Early praise for Medallion Status:“This funny, sometimes delightfully absurd book offers sharp meditations on status, relevance, and age, and fame—or at least being fame-adjacent.” -PW“Hodgman offers thoughtful musings about human nature and our drive for status. An entertaining and endearing entry from the author of Vacationland (2017).” -Booklist(Note: this is one of those episodes with a false ending, so when you hear us saying bye, stick around for more!)But enough plugging, enjoy the episode! Oh, and when you do enjoy it, PLEASE PASS IT ON - you'll be helping a worthy author sell books, and an independent podcaster get listeners, both very difficult tasks in supersaturated markets. Thanks!-Jamie(Image: detail of Medallion Status cover by Aaron Draplin) See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Episode 113 Welcome in to the newest segment of Women are the Journey! I am so excited to share with you the toe dipping in the water of the Expert's Series. I am going to dip that toe in with my new Resident Expert; Judith Reitz. This is a series scheduled to become a regular part of the podcast for season 3 next year! To start us off, Judith Reitz, will be in the room discussing the main themes of the problems that arise working as a woman entrepreneur. This week, she will be discussing Fear of Success. We hear a lot about the fear of failure and while that is a thing, the bigger issue, in my opinion, is the fear of success. It holds us back and weighs on us and keeps us from being all that we can be. Judith takes apart what success means, how we define it and then comes the big questions; do we really want it? Does it give us fulfillment? Judith provides us with her favorite quote on the subject: There is only one success - to be able to spend your life in your own way. ~ Christopher Morley Judith Reitz, M.A. (Rev), founder of Soul's Destiny Mentorship, has taught thousands of people self-processing tools to facilitate inner growth and the healing of body, mind and spirit. With 50 years experience in holistic therapies she has an extensive background in Psychosynthesis, Holodynamics, Clinical Hypnosis, Guided Imagery, the psychodynamics of health-threatening conditions & weight and body issues. She is a Reiki Master and is experienced in mind-body dynamics, Cranial-sacral and Somato-Emotional Release therapies. Judith has integrated the creative process of Journaling, Drawing, Imagery and Visualization, Art, Reiki, Music and Movement, and Holodynamics into a unique process designed to unblock creative and intuitive gifts. Her rich transpersonal background brings a mulit-dimensional approach uniquely designed for each person's needs. To contact Judith, please email her at soulcraftcoach@gmail.com or call or text her at 714-742-1133. She offers a free discovery call.
