Today we're going to talk about the questions Nintendo really doesn't want you to ask about Switch 2 right now. This is something that happens with every new product and a term that the one and only Reggie Fils-Aime used to use is "soft underbelly" which means these are the areas where you might be vulnerable. So what are these questions and how might Nintendo answer them? Also in this episode, we play a rousing game of Would You Rather - Switch 2 edition and we are playing the new Donkey Kong Country Returns HD and share how we're liking the game. A Video Game Time Capsule: The Complete History of Video Games, presented by MRIXRT @reallycool
2019-2020: A period of rapid evolution and unexpected challenges. In 2019, with Google's ambitious launch of Stadia and the next-gen console announcements from Sony and Microsoft, the gaming landscape seemed primed for monumental shifts. Yet, the loot box controversy continued to cast a shadow, prompting legal scrutiny worldwide. Ray tracing, Auto Battlers, and the ever-growing dominance of mobile gaming painted a picture of a vibrant, evolving industry. But it was also a time of change on the personnel front: the retirement of giants like Reggie Fils-Aime and Kaz Hirai marked the end of an era, while Bungie's tumultuous split from Activision underscored the complex dynamics between developers and publishers. Transitioning to 2020, the gaming world, like the rest of the planet, grappled with the challenges of a global pandemic. Yet, in adversity, the industry found growth, with streamers and gaming platforms seeing unprecedented engagement. Noteworthy events like Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax and the expanding cloud gaming frontier signaled that the industry was far from static, even in the face of global challenges. Reflecting on these years, one can't help but ponder: In a rapidly transforming world, both within and outside gaming, what lies on the horizon for this dynamic industry?Featured Games:Shenmue 3, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, The Outer Worlds, Apex Legends, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Hades, Among Us, Doom Eternal, & Yakuza: Like A Dragon. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ (00:00) - Episode 14 (00:06) - 2019 (20:58) - 2020 Thanks to our monthly supporters FS Tabreez Siddique Mynx Mopman43 Ritsu William Kage Studio Devil Dallay_g Razu John H The Golden Bolt MykonosFan ErbBetaPatched Vornak Killer Space Serra Mr. Lindsay Autocharth History With Kayleigh Benjamin Steele Nick Makris minimme
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of a Kingdom komt 12 mei uit.
Best known for his role as President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America Inc, Reggie is an industry powerhouse with a knack for ruffling feathers due to his, well, disruptive approach to basically everything. Former Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime joins the conversation on “Making Waves at C-Level”. Award-winning innovator and disrupter, Reggie Fils-Aimé has been revered by business leaders and gaming fans alike for helping to bring some of Nintendo's greatest successes– the Nintendo DS, the Wii, the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and the Nintendo Switch – to the global marketplace. In his bestselling book, DISRUPTING THE GAME: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo, Fils-Aimé shares his story of grit and determination for the first time—from his humble beginnings in the Bronx as the son of Haitian immigrants, to the top of Nintendo as one of the most powerful names in the gaming industry—and the first American and African American president and chief operating officer for the company. Immortalized for opening Nintendo's 2004 E3 presentation with, “My name is Reggie, I'm about kicking ass. I'm about taking names, and we're about making games,” Fils-Aimé is a veteran at transforming companies, revitalizing brands, and reshaping industries. Here he outlines the leadership lessons he learned over the course of his career from his time working with iconic brands at P&G, like PepsiCo/Pizza Hut, Guinness Import Company and television entertainment with VH1 to his tenure at Nintendo. He helps readers leverage disruptive thinking to pinpoint the life choices that will make them truly happy, conquer negative perceptions from those who underestimate or outright dismiss them, and master the grit, perseverance, and resilience it takes to dominate in the business world. ABOUT Reggie Fils-Aime Reggie Fils-Aimé is an award-winning innovator and disrupter who has helped bring the Nintendo DS, the Wii, the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and the Nintendo Switch to the global marketplace. He joined Nintendo of America Inc. in December 2003 as Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. In May 2006, he was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer. He was inducted into the International Videogame Hall of Fame in October 2019 and received the annual Legend Award from the New York Videogame Critics Circle in January 2020. Prior to joining Nintendo, Fils-Aimé was Senior Vice President of Marketing at VH1. During his tenure at VH1, he engineered the channel's redirection to young viewers that resulted in an overall 30 percent ratings growth, and he created and executed the marketing plans for The Concert for New York City, which raised more than $35 million for disaster relief in the wake of the Sept 11, 2001 attacks. Fils-Aimé graduated with distinction from Cornell's Dyson Undergraduate Business School in 1983 which launched a 35+ year career as an operating executive spanning the consumer-packaged goods, restaurant, beverage, and media/entertainment industries. Since retiring, he has focused his energy on developing the next generation of business leaders. In August 2019, he was named the inaugural Cornell University's Dyson Leader in Residence for the 2019-2020 academic year. He also founded Brentwood Growth Partners to help emerging companies scale and enable leaders to create world-class cultures. Make sure your body is ready before listening! This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill return from a COVID-induced hiatus to talk the highs and lows of recent Nintendo news. After giving a short and sweet shout out to the expectedly underwhelming additions to NES/SNES online lineup, the gang turns their attention to the one and only Reggie Fils-Aime, former President of Nintendo of America, whose book Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo has just released! Marc gives the hosts the rundown about this book that spills all the Regginator's secrets to effective management and reveals a new side of one of Nintendo's most recognizable icons. Of course, we can't stay positive for too long–that's why Marc and Campbell share their thoughts on the much-anticipated reboot Kao the Kangaroo. While this revival of a beloved franchise from the early 2000s showed much promise early on, the finished product leaves much to be desired: Marc and Campbell are more than happy to talk about how its levels are extremely mundane, its story insufferable, its characters unlikable, and its gameplay almost entirely broken due to a load of glitches, framerate dips, and resolution issues on Switch. It's not even the best marsupial-themed platformer on the console! Closing things out on a better note, Cameron shines an indie spotlight on the adventure game Citizen Sleeper, a narrative-driven sci-fi epic that shatters expectations to deliver one of this year's standout experiences. This is a game where you can have a heart-to-heart with a vending machine, after all–what's not to love? Tonight on GeekNights, we discuss how games monetize. How can you make money making games? We've done at least three panels around this topic: Monetizing Games and Game Design (PAX East 2012), Money Making Games (MAGFest 2012), and more recently The Real Harm of Games (PAX East 2019).In the news, the Rangers are still in the playoffs, Sony's Playstation Plus upgrade isn't going well, Arcs is coming from Patrick Leder (though it's unfortunately on Kickstarter), Reggie Fils-Aime thinks the games industry needs to embrace unions, and Raven Software's QA team has unionized, despite Activision Blizzard's uncomfortable opposition.

The Embracer Group's appetite for developers cannot be satiated. The never-ending expansion of what is rapidly becoming gaming's largest publishing entity has gobbled up three more studios from rival Square Enix (as well as a bunch of IP) for cash money. Does this say anything about Embracer? Probably not. It seems like they'll buy just about anything, and $300 million is a small price to pay for more than 1,000 heads and 50 licenses, including Tomb Raider. This deal does, however, say something about Square Enix. Potentially many things, in fact. Refocused on western second party relationships and Japanese internal development, some think Square Enix is trimming the fat to be purchased itself. But does that make sense? We discuss this deal extensively. Other news this week include rumblings of a takeover at Ubisoft, the leak of some of PlayStation Plus' upcoming retro games, the surprising lawsuit that potentially puts Yuji Naka's epic failure Balan Wonderworld in context, and more. As always, we touch on plenty of listener inquiries too, including ones about Reggie Fils-Aime, a potential sequel to Death Stranding, the likelihood a Punisher game might someday appear, and so on. We're back in the saddle after a very successful 200th episode, and we hope you enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

The What Are Ya Playin' segment: Overwatch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Genshin Impact, Fire Emblem, and LittleBigPlanet 2. This week's news discussions: Reggie Fils-Aime's Disrupting the Game, Genshin Impact for Switch, Nintendo Switch sales, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film top grossing game adaptation, and so much more. Reggie Fils-Aime's book Disrupting the Game is available everywhere and we learned some pretty cool stuff from it. On the flip side, Kat put together a report about what it's like to be a contractor working for Nintendo, and it isn't quite the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory we might have imagined. Join hosts Kat Bailey, Peer Schneider and Seth Macy for another exciting episode of NVC.

SquareEnix has unloaded all of their western developers for a song...and it's so they can go full steam into Blockchain?! We certainly have our thoughts on that as well as Reggie Fils-Aime getting decidedly less cool. Sony is catching some heat for doing something Steam has been doing for years. Twitch is pissing off their creators for silly reasons. Finally, Micah talks about his very first viewing of Tony Scott's magnum opus. Live from GamesBeat Summit 2022, Keynote Fireside Chat With Reggie Fils-Aimé and Danny Peña. Reggie Fils-Aime spent his early years in a poor neighborhood in the Bronx. Through capability and opportunity, he rose to become president of Nintendo of America. Now he has written a book, Disrupted! about his life and business experiences. He is also actively investing gaming's future. Reggie will talk in a fireside chat with Danny Peña of G4/Gamertag Radio about the lessons he has learned and his observations about the current industry consolidation, the high-level strategies for gaming companies, the roles of content, community, creators, and pop culture. We'll also learn what he thinks of the dreaded words “metaverse,” “crypto,” “blockchain,” “NFTs,” and “play to own.” Sponsored: Bud Light NEXT Zero carbs beer is here! Facebook Gaming was supposed to be the social media giant's answer to Twitch. Four years after its launch, however, it's a weird wasteland of diet pill ads and sketchy viewership stats. What went wrong... aside from, well, everything? We look at the head-scratcher that is the current state of Facebook Gaming, as well as discuss what it would take to turn the service around. We'll also be talking about how Elden Ring sold over 12 million copies in 18 days, the upcoming opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal, Atari's $1.5 million purchase of the videogame database MobyGames, and Reggie Fils-Aime's claim that he left GameStop's board because leadership refused to explain their plans for turning the company around.Thank you to Andy of the CafeBTW Podcast for filling in!
