Many people overthink what they should put in their resume. They go for fancy fonts and overly formatted styles. That isn't the way to go! You want to keep it simple! Keep it clean. Make it concise. Offer lots of white space so it's easy on the eye. Direct the reader's attention to the important details. Provide context for your accomplishments and where possible, quantify them. Avoid overselling yourself with buzzwords like "go-getter" or "people person." Stick with the facts. Let other people talk you up. And no matter what else you do, make sure it is error-free! No spelling, punctuation, grammatical, or spacing errors unless you want to land in the "no" pile. Mistakes indicate a lack of attention to detail or a lack of real interest in the job. Get someone to proofread for you.Want to learn more about how to approach writing your resume? Then listen in to this episode of "Teachers in Transition."
The Sandwich Weekly Podcast Episode 10. Activities and events from Friday July 12 through Thursday July 25 Hello again and welcome to the Sandwich Weekly Podcast. This is Episode 10, covering activities and events in and around Sandwich for the period Friday July 12 through Thursday July 25. There are many activities and events in the Sandwich Weekly Podcast and I’m always looking for new ways to make it easier for you to find what you’re interested in. If you’re using a podcast player that supports chapter markers such as, Overcast, Pocket Casts, or the Apple Podcast app, you can skip directly to any day in the audio file. This, unfortunately, isn’t a feature that’s available on the podcasts web page. On the podcast web page you can scroll down the show notes to look for particular days of activities. You can also use the standard search keys (ctrl-f on pc or cmd-f on Mac) to enter your search terms. This week I introduced a new feature that will, hopefully, make the show notes easier to navigate. At the top of the show notes there are shortcuts to go directly to a particular day in the notes. This way you won’t need to scroll down the list to find the day in which you are interested. Here’s the schedule of activities and events for the next two weeks… Friday July 12 Saturday July 13 Sunday July14 Monday July 15 Tuesday July 16 Wednesday July 17 Thursday July 18 Friday July 19 Saturday July 20 Monday July 22 Tuesday July 23 Wednesday July 24 Thursday July 25 Friday July 12 Computer Class – Computer Basics - 10:30 – noon, Friday at the Sandwich Public Library. The Sandwich Weekly Podcast Episode 9. Activities and events from Friday July 5 through Thursday July 18 Hello again and welcome to the Sandwich Weekly Podcast. This is Episode 9, covering activities and events in and around Sandwich for the period Friday July 5 through Thursday July 18. Here’s the schedule of activities and events for the next two weeks… Friday July 5 Saturday July 6 Sunday July 7 Monday July 8 Tuesday July 9 Wednesday July 10 Thursday July 11 Friday July 12 Saturday July 13 Sunday July14 Monday July 15 Tuesday July 16 Wednesday July 17 Thursday July 18 Friday July 5 American Legion Fish Fry- 5 to 7:30 pm Friday at the Sheridan American Legion Post 729. The Sandwich Weekly podcast, episode 2, activities and events from May 12 to May 23 Hello, this is the Sandwich Weekly podcast. I’m your host Robert and I’ve prepared a list of activities and events happening in and around Sandwich over the next two weeks. just a reminder that everything I mention in this podcast, as well as contact information, can be found in the show notes. You can view the show notes on your podcast player or on the web at sandwichweekly.com. Good news, the Sandwich Weekly podcast has been approved by Spotify. If you subscribe to Spotify you can listen to the podcast using the Spotify app or web player. Before I get to the event calendar I thought it would be fun to pass along a little-known historical fact about the city of Sandwich. Did you know that Bob Hope once headlined a benefit show at the Sandwich airport? The show was sponsored by Friends of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart in Aurora to raise funds to purchase a small plane for Father Tony Gendusa who was a missionary in New Guinea. The event also included a two-hour air show starring Jerrie Mack, the first woman to fly around the world solo in a single-engine plane. The show was emceed by WGN’s Eddie Hubbard. There were between 5,000 and 10,000 people in attendance that day. That’s pretty impressive when you find out that the date of the event was July 20, 1969 - the same day that the Apollo 11 astronauts landed on the moon. In fact, Bob Hope delayed his departure from Sandwich to watch the moon landing in the airport's administration building. If you have some little known historical facts about Sandwich, send them to me at feedback@sandwichweekly.com and I’ll read them on an upcoming show (of course I’ll give you credit!)
