Joy is a choice.
Chapter 23 of Heroes in the Bible: David with Dr. Tony Evans is inspired by 2 Samuel 8-10. Strength & Love - David rises to a new level of power, influence, and favor. He truly is living like a man after God's own heart… But sin is always lurking in the shadows, awaiting a moment to strike. Today's opening prayer is inspired by Romans 15:13, Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit. Where is my hope? Not "what are you hoping for?". The four most important words in the Bible: THE WORD BECAME FLESH.

If faith is what we see, then hope is the way we see. Gabe Valenzuela brings a pastoral invitation for us to engage in the joyful anticipation of God's goodness. Through Scripture and stories, you'll find clean lenses to see and be reminded to joyfully trust in God's fulfillment of our promises.
Joy is connected, constant, and contagious.
Joy robbers: circumstances, comparison, confusion Joy restorers: renew my commitment, refuse to compare myself, realign my priorities
Today is the Advent candle of Joy and we celebrate God's Son, Jesus our Savior! Ir was for "joy" that He yielded Himself to bring salvation to God's chosen and then to the Gentiles. Thank God for the kings of the East who came to worship the new born King and caused eternal life to be given to the Gentiles also! Do we recognize the power of Jesus' "joy?" A joy that brought sacrifice and great physical pain to Jesus, not to mention the moment that God looked away as Jesus took upon Himself our sins! What a God we serve, what a Savior we have!

We are closing out the week as we talk about one of the major themes of Advent...Hope. We all need hope, but hope is in short supply. Hope has been hijacked into some sort of wishful thinking. We are going to talk about the true source of Hope that we read in Romans 15:13. Enjoy! The music on the podcast is from John Nugent. John is a Chicagoland area musician who has been a real blessing to Tabor Church. Support the show

"The promise is that we would overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit, and I think that's the lynchpin there. It's not my own scraped-up hope, it is hope only by the power of the Holy Spirit.” — Vera SchmitzThis month's memory verse: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” — Romans 15:13Today's podcast: Is it hard for you to believe that you can experience overflowing hope daily? “Biblical hope is not a wishing and a longing—biblical hope is a certain hope because it is rooted and grounded in the faithful God of hope.” — Natalie Abbott This month's memory verse: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” — Romans 15:13Today's podcast: Have you ever wondered what “hope” really means? Is it just a wish, or is biblical hope something more? In today's teaching episode, Natalie Abbott, co-founder of Dwell, fills us in on the context of Romans 15:13, how we can understand this verse rightly, and why it is so important and encouraging for our everyday lives. But this hope isn't just for us—it's an overflowing hope for those around us as well, that they too might meet Jesus, the source and sustainer of our hope. Today, Pastor Marc Sharp poses the question, "What did Mary know about Jesus’ life and purpose before he was born, or as she held him in her arms?" The Bible is clear that Mary knew quite a bit about the magnitude of what had happened that night in Bethlehem. It also shows that she didn’t know every detail, but what she didn’t know, she entrusted to God’s wisdom in faith. Seems like a lesson for us today! Pastor Marc Sharp continues the series on the minor prophets with the book of Zechariah, the longest of the twelve books. In some ways it is a difficult book to understand and often neglected by Christians. Zechariah is often referred to in the New Testament, with about 54 passages from Zechariah echoed in about 67 different places in the NT, with the lion’s share of these found in the book of Revelation. Though it was written to a people in the 6th Century BC, and addressed their real world concerns and challenges, it speaks comforting promises to us as well, if we have ears to hear what it tells us about God’s love for us today. This world is not our ultimate homeland, and we need to understand that God is in control even when it seems at times that he isn’t. The future he has planned for us is bright, hopeful and absolutely guaranteed by the One who can’t lie! There is no hope without Jesus and the power of His Holy Spirit.

It is in the waiting to see the hand of God move, that sometimes like David we are disquieted and our hope does not have any strength. We learn what is needed in the waiting process: Ps. 130:5 "I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in His Word do I hope.: If our hope is in anything other than God's Word, we will be as the writer of Proverbs proclaimed - "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick!" The strength of our hope is the Word of God.
God has given us every opportunity to respond to His promises. God makes a way for us to experience His promises by giving us a choice of how we live our lives.

Today is Palm Sunday. While we are grateful for technology that allows us to meet together "virtually", we don’t have the benefit of each other’s comforting presence. It’s vital we remember what Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem meant, and draw encouragement from it, especially in the uncertain days in which we find ourselves. Fear not! Be of good courage. Turn in full faith to the Prince of Peace for your comfort and assurance. He reigns! This is our 2nd week of streaming because of Corona Virus. If we believe that God is all powerful, that Jesus came and resurrected, that we were sent a helper, the advocate, the Holy Spirit and that power worked through the apostles and through the ages ... then what is stopping the same power working through us? What are the road blocks that are hindering the power of the Holy Spirit launching through our lives, our churches? Listen in today as we explore the five road blocks to living a spirit filled life.
Hope is powerful. Prosperity is an attitude of the heart; it’s a mindset. You might have nothing, (i.e., lack things) but you can still be prosperous. God’s plan is for you to prosper in every area of your life. When you develop prosperous attitudes and thought patterns, as a consequence, your circumstances and your conditions will improve, because you see things differently. Prosperous actions come from a prosperous attitude.
