Shane Beamer announced this week that LaNorris Sellers will be their QB1 heading into fall camp. Not a big surprise, but he did opt not to name a starter all throughout spring practice. What took so long to say that Sellers is ahead of Robby Ashford? We catch up with Jordan Kaye of The State newspaper in Columbia, as he was there when Beamer spoke on Monday. We also talk with Jordan about how the Gamecocks did in the transfer portal, and who could be the next big WR to step up for them.We also go Around the Conference as Mississippi State adds Illinois d-lineman Anthony Johnson, Arkansas adds USF WR Khafre Brown, BYU d-lineman Danny Saili, AND former MLB outfielder Monte Harrison as a walk-on. Auburn adds o-line depth in Akron's Ronan Chambers, while they lose out on a football commit. And Kentucky adds a QB in Gavin Wimsatt from Rutgers. Also, Joel Klatt released his Post-Top 25 Spring Rankings, and he doesn't have an SEC team at #1. We run through which SEC teams he does have ranked in his Top 25, including the soon-to-be newest additions in Texas and Oklahoma. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! The Nebraska football hype has reached fever pitch following the arrival of freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola this spring. The 60,000 fans on hand for their spring game and those that watched on a national telecast are still talking about Raiola and his performance. And it just seemed like everything else looked better with him on the field. Nebraska football fans know this team was good last year but it turned the ball over and could not figure out the quarterback position. If Raiola is the quarterback fix and if the turnovers get cut in half then this team will go bowling for the first time since 2016. Welcome back, football fans! In this Week 8 KickStart episode, we dive into the whirlwind of drama that defined the week. From shocking scandals to nail-biting games, we've got it all covered. First up, the shocking Michigan drama! A cheating scandal rocked the Wolverines, with Conor Stalions suspended without pay. Barstool highlighted the ATS numbers, leaving us questioning the integrity of the game. My take? I'm convinced they did it, but will money talk louder than truth? Only time will tell. In the Iowa vs. Minnesota matchup, a controversial fair catch call echoed worldwide. Was it valid or not? My advice: just score more and leave no room for doubt. The Ohio State vs. Penn State clash was a defensive battle, where Kyle McCord proved his mettle, securing a crucial win for the Buckeyes. Penn State's receivers struggled, setting the stage for a must-win game against Michigan. Rutgers triumphed over Indiana, extending the Hoosiers' string of defeats. Gavin Wimsatt and Monangai showcased their prowess, leaving Indiana in dire straits. Nebraska faced Northwestern, with Haarberg leading the charge. Despite a valiant effort from Sullivan, Nebraska's defense prevailed, setting the tone for their future games. In a rollercoaster matchup, Wisconsin overcame a 14-point deficit against Illinois. The game saw twists and turns, with a last-minute touchdown confusing fans, but Wisconsin emerged victorious. Welcome to Jersey Guy Sports, your sports talk home for the Yankees, Giants, Rangers and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. I'm your host Don. Thanks for listening. Today I'll be discussing:Gavin Wimsatt's disastrous QB play costs Rutgers again in a 24-13 road loss to Wisconsin Saturday. A calamitous interception / 95 yard pick-6 turned what would have been a 10-7 halftime game to a 17-0 deficit and ruined any chance of an upset for RU, whose defense played valiantly again.Jersey Guy Sports information: The Jersey Guy Sports Podcast is available on all podcasting platforms. Special Guest: Rutgers Expert Bryan MacKenzie Featured Musician: Darrin James The Video: [After THE JUMP: The saidening.] --------------------- 1. Rutgers Preview: Offense starts at the top They've awoken the legs of junior-who-should-be-a-redshirt-freshman quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, but he's still lost as a quarterback. Kyle Monangai is a short-stout guy who can burrow. Johnny Langan is still around somehow. 2. Rutgers Preview: Defense starts at 18:50 But the defense is the reason they're a bowl team this year. A lot of returners, old friend Aaron Lewis is one of PFF's top defensive ends, though still way more pass rush than rush-stoppage—too bad we lost him. Wesley Bailey is good too, and Mo Toure is doing SAM things. Alex likes MLB Tyreem Powell. Going to be a real test vs this secondary. 3. Bowling Green After Review starts at 32:05 So Seth was right, Brian? At least they needed more spacing on the first interception. The second needed a better route and it still should have gone to Roman Wilson. Brian thinks Henderson's earned a start. Power works, you guys! Defensively the line is so good that nobody will keep the ball there. Run games are getting eaten alive. Hard to know if anyone else is good with that happening. We'll see….uh…eventually? Gimmicky Top Five with Rutgers Expert Bryan MacKenzie starts at 44:37 Things that might be better than we give them credit for. About the Featured Musician: Darrin James This year we are partnering with The Blind Pig for bumper music, since that's where I've seen most of the bands I've been pushing anyways. The crew discusses those developments, looks ahead to the biggest storylines of the offseason and much more in our latest episode. Penn State's defense took its game to another level on Saturday, not only suffocating the Rutgers offense but scoring points for the Nittany Lions as well. Throw in a Nick Singleton kickoff return for a touchdown, and Penn State blew out Rutgers 45-10 on Saturday. Join the BWI Live postgame show immediately following the game to discuss the win and what's next for the Nittany Lions. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube so you don't miss the show. https://bit.ly/3KzEcqK Penn State got off to a rocky start in the game, trailing 10-7 after a poor punt from punter Barney Amour and an Aaron Cruikshank kick return to get Rutgers into the Penn State red zone to start a drive in the first quarter. Penn State's offense couldn't find any momentum to start the game, punting on five of its first six drives and fumbling on the other. Thankfully for the Nittany Lions, the Penn State defense locked down the Scarlet Knights, with only 22 yards allowed after the first three drives heading into halftime. In that time, the defense also intercepted Rutgers quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, forced a fumble that turned into a touchdown, and set up the offense for success. So despite only gaining 179 yards in the first half, Penn State led 28-10 going into the break. A defensive touchdown on a sack and forced fumble by linebacker Curtis Jacobs opened the lead to 38-10. Finally, the running game got going in the second half thanks to several explosive Kaytron Allen, and Nick Singleton runs. However, the freshman of the game was once again linebacker Abdul Carter. The budding star tallied multiple quarterback pressures, a quarterback hit, a sack, and two tackles for loss. Backup quarterback Drew Allar took the field with five minutes left in the third quarter and managed the game after that. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Offense vs Rutgers starts at 1:00 Was Michigan sick during this game? "The loud Rutgers fans" is an uttered phrase. JJ completed less than half of his passes, some of them were drops but some were bad throws. Why isn't Michigan throwing more fades? Michigan threw contested throws in this game and Michigan completed almost none of them, but we know how good everyone is at this point. It seemed uncharacteristic so maybe it's a non-issue moving forward. Good game for younger guys to get quality play time in the 2nd half. Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards had some nice runs but there were some hiccups along the way. Rutgers' defense is on the aggressive side. Was part of Michigan's gameplan to just keep it safe and not take Rutgers too seriously? Khalid Hill approves of the FB dive. Donovan Edwards maximized his blocking opportunities in this game, this may have been his best game so far at Michigan. Jeffrey Persi wasn't noticed, which is good! [The rest of the writeup and the player after THE JUMP] 2. Defense vs Rutgers starts at 38:50 Rutgers did basically what Michigan State did - hit a couple deep passes and otherwise mostly went three and out. According to Seth, SHI Stadium turned off the rushing yard total on the scoreboard. Not a ton to say - Taylor Upshaw had a really nice game. Rutgers only had 49 snaps on offense. Cam Goode had a sack! David brings back the Chonky Talk. Gavin Wimsatt has a good arm but very little accuracy... doesn't seem like he can be the guy moving forward. Michigan's defense is 4th in SP+ which is opponent-adjusted. We have not seen opponents get chunk run plays due to poor linebacker play in a few weeks, Barrett seems to be adapting as a natural linebacker more and more. Jenkins snuffed out a shovel pass, something they got burned on earlier in the year. 3. Hot Takes, Defense, and Game Theory starts at 1:03:13 Takes hotter than the lights that were going all flashy and was like oh we're in the club because they scored a touchdown. SETH SINGS AT 1:03:57 JUST WARNING YOU. Viva La Revolution. Special teams were a disaster for the first time in years. That might've been the first punt block of Brad Robbins' career? There is a... uh... theory about Rutgers. What is up with Adam Korsak?? He got hit on a run but there wasn't a flag at least. Congratulations Big Ten Punters, you have made Brian angry. Brian and David set up the perfect punt-for-a-touchdown play. End-of-half clock management discussion 4. Around the Big Ten With Jamie Mac starts at 1:30:12 Please do not actually kidnap Chef Thad. All Big Ten scores must be contextualized with the wind (30-40 mph) across the midwest rendering all passing essentially useless. Northwestern actually outgains Ohio State by two yards. Did Ohio State use plays that were reserved for the Michigan game? We hate everything about Pat Fitzgerald's offense. Ohio State fans who think college football should be in controlled environmental stadiums are SAWFT. This game was dead even in the trenches. Ohio State's offensive line isn't bad but... they might not be good? Ohio State is averaging 1.9 points per possession on drives that start in their own territory over the last three games. Illinois was 1 of 6 on 4th down against Michigan State. They had plenty of chances to get more points and just couldn't. This opens up the Big Ten West and now there are scenarios where Iowa or Wisconsin could actually win the West. Nebraska takes a 10-0 lead and then Minnesota takes over the rest of the game. Nebraska's quarterbacks are named... Chubba and Purdy. The Nebraska offensive line PFF grades are horrendous. Iowa and Wisconsin win their games because they're the better rushing teams. Take the pass game out of Maryland and they can't win football games. If Iowa made it back to Indy, who would be more upset? Iowa fans or non-Iowa fans? It's time for Week 5 as Buckeye Talk continues to devote an episode to each game of Ohio State's 2022 football schedule. On Oct. 1, the Buckeyes will host Rutgers for homecoming with a 3:30 kickoff, and on this Buckeye Talk, Steve Politi of nj.com is here to talk about that. But there's only some Rutgers talk, including about quarterback Gavin Wimsatt, who is Rutgers' version of Quinn Ewers. He reclassified and enrolled in college early last year, but as the No. 202 overall recruit in that class, he stuck around. And he has a chance to be Rutgers' quarterback for a long time, and maybe the best quarterback Rutgers has seen in quite a while. But Doug and Steve also talked about the process of sportswriting for a big chunk of the pod, talking about Rutgers coverage, writing about New York sports, and some of Steve's favorite stories he's ever done, from Mexico to The Masters to the Olympics. And then Doug wraps up with why he thinks this once again won't be much of a game. Thanks for listening to Buckeye Talk from cleveland.com. Learn more about your ad choices. We also preview the Delaware game. Will we see Gavin Wimsatt? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
