In this episode of Cyrus Says, actor Neil Bhoopalam joins Cyrus for a witty and insightful conversation about his latest theatre project and his quirky personal passions. Neil talks about his role in 'The Horse', a Roman political satire presented by Aadyam Theatre and directed by Sunil Shanbhag, where he plays Silanus opposite Caligula—the emperor infamous for making his horse a senator. The discussion dives into the satire’s relevance today, the challenges of adapting British-style political humor for an Indian audience, and the massive scale of the production with 20 speaking roles, a Colosseum-inspired set designed by Kushal Mahant, and lighting crafted by Hidayat Sami and Yael. Away from the stage, Neil opens up about his unusual obsession—folding 1,000 origami cranes. Inspired by a personal loss, Neil shares how this meditative practice brings him peace, and how he’s already crossed the 350-mark in his crane-making journey. He even reveals the story of handing a paper crane to cricket legend Sourav Ganguly mid-flight, showing just how deeply personal yet universal this ritual has become for him. This episode blends theatre, philosophy, and personal storytelling into an engaging listen. If you’re curious about Indian theatre, Aadyam productions, Sunil Shanbhag’s direction, acting techniques, or the balance between art and life, this episode with Neil Bhoopalam is a must-listen.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Satire September turns it up to 11 this week on @wedrinkandwewatchthings, and this week, we're joining the world's loudest band on their most disastrous tour! We're talking about the endlessly quotable, perfectly crafted, and just plain hilarious mockumentary, "This is Spinal Tap." It's a classic we both absolutely love, so grab your drink and get ready to laugh. This week, we're dissecting the brilliance of Rob Reiner's directorial debut and its improv genius. We'll be talking about what makes this film so iconic, from the misplaced Stonehenge prop to the amps that "go to 11" and the surprisingly high mortality rate of their drummers. We'll explore how this film didn't just satirize rock documentaries - it essentially created the blueprint for an entire genre of comedy. It's a hilarious look at the egos, the absurdity, and the surprisingly relatable struggles of a band on the decline. If you're a long-time fan who knows every line, a musician who's lived one of their "Spinal Tap" moments, or just someone who appreciates a masterclass in comedy, then you won't want to miss this. We're blending our shared love for this film with our usual snappy banter, making this a truly fun and appreciative look at one of the funniest movies ever made. This one's a winner, no doubt about it.This episode VIDEO is live on YouTube AND Spotify!Follow us on Instagram and TikTok to get ep sneak peaks and find out what's coming next. fWotD Episode 3048: Peter Sellers Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 8 September 2025, is Peter Sellers.Peter Sellers (born Richard Henry Sellers; 8 September 1925 – 24 July 1980) was an English actor and comedian. He first came to prominence performing in the BBC Radio comedy series The Goon Show. Sellers featured on a number of hit comic songs, and became known to a worldwide audience through his many film roles, among them Chief Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther series.Sellers made his stage debut at the Kings Theatre, Southsea, when he was two weeks old. He began accompanying his parents in a touring variety act. He worked as a drummer and toured around England as a member of the Entertainments National Service Association (ENSA). He developed his mimicry and improvisational skills during a spell in Ralph Reader's wartime Gang Show entertainment troupe. After the war, Sellers made his radio debut in ShowTime, and eventually became a regular performer on various BBC Radio shows. During the early 1950s, Sellers, along with Spike Milligan, Harry Secombe, and Michael Bentine, took part in the successful radio series The Goon Show, which ended in 1960.Sellers began his film career during the 1950s. Although the bulk of his work was comedic, often parodying characters of authority such as military officers or policemen, he also performed in other film genres and roles. Films demonstrating his artistic range include I'm All Right Jack (1959), Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962) and Dr. Strangelove (1964), What's New Pussycat? (1965), Casino Royale (1967), The Party (1968), Being There (1979) and five films of the Pink Panther series (1963–1978). Sellers's versatility enabled him to portray a wide range of comic characters using different accents and guises, and he would often assume multiple roles within the same film, frequently with contrasting temperaments and styles. Satire and black humour were major features of many of his films, as they had been in his radio and record performances, and they had a strong influence on a number of later comedians. Sellers was nominated three times for an Academy Award, twice for the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his performances in Dr. Strangelove and Being There, and once for the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for The Running Jumping & Standing Still Film (1959). He won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in I'm All Right Jack and was nominated an additional three times for the satire Only Two Can Play, for Doctor Strangelove and The Pink Panther, and for Being There. In 1980 he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his role in Being There, having previously been nominated three times in the same category. Turner Classic Movies calls Sellers "one of the most accomplished comic actors of the late 20th century".In his personal life, Sellers struggled with depression and insecurities. An enigmatic figure, he often claimed to have no identity outside the roles that he played. His behaviour was often erratic and compulsive, and he frequently clashed with his directors and co-stars, especially in the mid-1970s, when his physical and mental health, together with his alcohol and drug problems, were at their worst. Sellers was married four times and had three children from his first two marriages. He died from a heart attack, aged 54, in 1980. English filmmakers the Boulting brothers described Sellers as "the greatest comic genius this country has produced since Charles Chaplin".This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:04 UTC on Monday, 8 September 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Peter Sellers on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Nicole.

What if the most powerful tool at work isn't logic, but laughter? On this episode I'm speaking to a comedian who far from thinking humour is a workplace distraction, thinks it might be one of our most powerful tools. Episode SummaryMy guest is Pep Rosenfeld: comedian, improviser, and co-founder of the Amsterdam-based comedy institution Boom Chicago. He's also the author of Work Laugh Balance, a manifesto for injecting humour into the working world. We explore why humour matters; not just as entertainment, but as a serious enabler of collaboration, communication, and honesty. Pep brings a unique perspective: part performer, part business trainer. We talk about how Boom Chicago went from late-night improv to a launchpad for corporate masterclasses in leadership and presentation. Along the way, we unpack the risks and rewards of using humour at work; what works, what really doesn't, and how to find the line without crossing it. Pep shares ethical guidelines for office jokes, the power of self-deprecation, and why starting with a laugh can lead to deeper conversations. We also get into the craft of being funny.Pep explains why good comedy is rarely spontaneous, why AI still can't tell a decent joke, and why live audiences matter more than ever. Whether you're trying to lighten the mood in a meeting or name the elephant in the room without causing a stampede, this episode offers practical ideas (and a few laughs) on how to do it with intelligence and care.AI-Generated Timestamped Summary[00:00:00] Opening on humour's overlooked role in work; intro to Pep Rosenfeld[00:01:00] How Boom Chicago began as a summer comedy project in Amsterdam[00:04:00] Expanding into improv for kids on the autism spectrum[00:06:00] The book's premise: humour fuels communication, leadership, and trust[00:11:00] Why advertisers and leaders alike should embrace humour[00:12:00] Rules for workplace humour: self-deprecate, avoid punching down, don't get creepy[00:16:00] Comedy as a tool for tackling elephants in the room[00:23:00] The myth of improv: strong humor depends on thoughtful prep[00:26:00] The power of presence and live attention in comedy[00:33:00] What comedians offer that motivational speakers don't[00:36:00] How Pep uses AI to show the limits of artificial humour[00:41:00] Using comedy to defuse fear and build connection[00:44:00] Parallel skills: being a lawyer vs. being a comedian[00:50:00] The energy difference between live and virtual comedy[00:55:00] Defining Work Laugh Balance: credibility without sterility[01:00:00] What's next for Pep, where to find his work, and closing thoughtsLinksPep on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/pep-rosenfeld-394b2424/Boom Chicago, Pep's Amsterdam comedy club - https://boomchicago.nl/Work Laugh Balance - https://amzn.eu/d/678xGYNIf you eniyed this episode, then you might also like these previous episodes of the show:Comedy writer Paul Dornan on Being Truly Funny - https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/paul-dornan-on-being-truly-funny/Improv Comedian Neil Mullarkey on Being In The Moment - https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/neil-mullarkey-on-being-in-the-moment/Impressionist Josh Berry on Comedy, Satire and Impressions - https://www.humanriskpodcast.com/josh-berry-on-comedy-satire-impressions-part-one/

Zoe Dubno's debut novel Happiness & Love evolves over one evening in downtown NY, as the protagonist in town for a funeral. She accepts an invitation to a dinner party and spends it eviscerating the 'beautiful people' who she once looked up to. One reviewer called it "a savage, whip-smart, and genuinely hilarious takedown of New York's culture production ecosystem."
