Sean Chen (artist of X-O, Iron Man, Wolverine and Batman Beyond) joins Creator Talks to discuss the September 1st only 24-hour digital drop of Wingman: Compendium of an Artist's First Writing Experience.  The book was inspired by the 1957 classic Swedish art film The Seventh Seal directed by Ingmar Bergman. Why did Sean decide to post the story on Instagram and partner with NextChapter for the physical edition rather than a launching a Kickstarter campaign? There is still a plenty of discussion of Sean's career, from Valiant to Marvel, and the lessons he has learned about making comics. We talk about the first time I meet Sean during the Delaware Valley CBRI One Day Tour that was held Saturday February 27, 1993. He was promoting his first comic work for Valiant Rai and The Future Force. Hiromi Ito, Tomoko Sawada, and Yukiko Motoya, look at women's roles in Japanese culture today plus the Japanese view of English-language literature with translator Motoyuki Shibata. Philip Dodd presents. Bethan Jones acted as the translator. Japan Now 2020 is a series of events taking place in Sheffield, Norwich and London organised by Modern Culture culminating in a day of events at the British Library on Saturday February 22nd. Hiromi Itō is one of the most prominent women writers in Japan who looks at sexuality motherhood and the body in her work which is translated by Jeffrey Angles. Yukiko Motoya’s first book in English, Picnic In The Storm, is a collection of short stories which include salary men being swept skywards by their umbrellas, to a married couple morphing into one another’s bodies. It was the winner of the Akutagawa Prize and the Kenzaburo Oe Prize. It is translated by Asa Yoneda Tomoko Sawada is a photographer and performance artist whose work explores gender roles and cultural stereotypes from a strongly feminist perspective. Translator Motoyuki Shibata, has introduced writers like Paul Auster, Richard Powers, Edward Gorey and Steven Millhauser to Japanese readers. Pert near Sandstone has not only minted its own brand of string band music, but has become a mover and shaker, too. This is Kenneth Vigue….and I can FINALLY share some MASSIVE news with you. Back in December Alex Kane from Forbes Magazine contacted me and wrote an amazing article on the podcast. Since then the show has exploded with even more new listeners and subscribers that have tuned into our weird little post-apocalyptic podcast. More excitingly, that article caught the attention of Bethesda themselves who reached out to me early last month to ask if we would be able to do produce a LIVE stage show of a podcast episode at Bethesda Game Days in Boston during PAX East. We hopped on the opportunity immediately and I shelved where we were with Episode 11 to shift focus to developing a live performance. I was and am deeply honored for the opportunity and was even more surprised when I found out that the creative minds at Bethesda who created the world we create stories in has been listening to and enjoys this podcast. This will be the first time they have ever done anything like this, so I feel no small pressure in doing it well, so they embrace more community created projects in the future. So, on Saturday February 29th at 3:30pm EST we will be taking the stage at the Westin Seaport Hotel in Boston at Bethesda Game Days to stage a 50-minute show. If you are going to PAX East, we’d love you to visit the venue, Laugh Boston, to see us perform and if not, fear not because Bethesda will be streaming it and all of the stage shows as usual on all of their social platforms: from YouTube to Twitch.
