Early in the morning of September 16th 1989, the battered body of 25-year-old Trevor Metcalfe was found on playing fields in Dormanstown, near Middlesbrough. This was a location Trevor had no known ties to, and police were puzzled as to what led him there.Following a family tragedy, Trevor had developed a solvent addiction, and he was attacked and killed while he was intoxicated and at his most vulnerable. Through the 1970s and 1980s, Mary Joe Frug was a well-respected and prominent law academic. As a part of the Critical Legal Studies movement, she looked to analyse the legal system from a feminist perspective. On the evening of April 4th 1991, the 49-year-old was walking to a convenience store in an upmarket neighbourhood in Cambridge, Massachusetts, when she was set upon and viciously stabbed to death. A man in his early twenties was seen fleeing from the scene but has never been identified. Investigators were baffled regarding a motive and could not determine if the slaying had been a random act or if Mary Joe had been specifically targeted. On Sunday June 17, 2024, Jay Slater, a 19-year-old bricklayer’s apprentice who lived in Lancashire, England was on his first ever foreign holiday. And he seemed to be having a blast. He had gone to the island of Tenerife in Spain with a female friend named Lucy and a guy named Brad. That night he and Lucy went out to a music festival called New Rave Generation. It was held at Papagayo Beach Club, along a strip called Veronica’s Strip that has a ton of nightclubs and neon signs. It was there he met two British men and somehow they made a plan to go on to their Airbnb. The next morning, Lucy got one last frantic call from Jay just after 8 am, saying he was lost, didn’t know where he was, and was panicked. He never showed up again. So was Jay kidnapped and murdered, did he wander off into the wilderness or did something else happen to him? This case is wild. It has exposed the seedy underside of this island and the criminal underworld that are operating there, including drug lords and mobsters dubbed the timeshare killers. William Friedkin's film The Exorcist terrified audiences upon its release in 1973. They fainted, vomited, and went into hysterics in the theaters. Some overwhelmed viewers left early, only to return the next day, buying another ticket to see if they could make it to the end. But the story behind The Exorcist is just as compelling as the story on the screen. The film's production was marred by tragedy and the unpredictable behavior of its volatile director. The novel the film was based on became a best seller largely by happenstance. On Monday September 30, 2004, 18-year-old college student Brittany Phillips was found dead in her apartment in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was a student at Tulsa Community College, went to her evening chemistry class with her friend Lydia. She was found lying next to her bed. Clothing was found scattered all around her in a haphazard way, and the balcony doors to her second floor apartment were open. Investigators believed she had been dead for at least a couple of days. News reports said that she had been raped, and strangled, but he medical examiner’s report stated that there was no definitive evidence of sexual assault. What happened to Brittany Phillips? On April 15, 1975, Melanie "Suzy" Cooley left Nederland High School where she was a senior. She was last seen hitchhiking in Nederland. A road maintenance worker found her body on May 2, 1975, in Coal Creek Canyon. Cooley was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue jean jacket with an embroidered eagle on the back and tan-colored boots. In July 2021, Katie and Bowie were taking  a late-night walk through Piedmont Park in Atlanta, Georgia.   This was their routine as Katie worked as a bartender. When Katie did not arrive as scheduled to pick up her partner Emma from work, Emma set out to look for her.  She used a phone tracking app and discovered that Katie's phone was in Piedmont Park.  Emma went to the park and there she discovered the lifeless bodies of both Katie and Bowie.   Katie had been brutally stabbed to death - she had 50 stab wounds to her face, neck and torso.  The letters F A T had also been carved into her body. Now, four years later, the murders of Katie and Bowie remain unsolved.  A $25,000 reward is being offered for information in the case. Hannah Williams, a 78-year-old widow, lived with her daughter, Elizabeth, in an isolated cottage six miles from Cardiff. On the morning of Saturday November 10th 1900, Elizabeth walked to market to sell produce from their smallholding. Hannah stayed behind, busying herself with some household chores. When Elizabeth returned that afternoon she was met by neighbours on the road who informed her that Hannah was dead. This had not been due to natural causes or even an accident, but by bloody violence. Hannah had been bludgeoned with a coal hammer and her throat slashed while darning a sock in her own kitchen. Archer is found shot beside his car outside his clinic in Prestonsburg, KY (July 12, 1973). A witness reports a beige-on-green Buick LeSabre fleeing the scene—similar to the car driven by Judith Archer, the city clerk and executive director of the Housing Authority, married to Archer's cousin William “Bill Tom” Archer. As rumors snowball (including an alleged affair), timelines shift, pressure mounts, and within eight days Judith dies by suicide—before any arrest is made. A grand jury later calls dozens of witnesses but issues no indictments, and the case cools. Archer.Born into a prominent Eastern Kentucky family of doctors and civic leaders, Archer carried on a legacy of medicine, public service, and political influence. From expanding healthcare access in rural communities to transforming Prestonsburg's infrastructure and serving as mayor, Archer's career was full of ambition and impact.But his story came to a shocking and violent end on the night of July 12, 1973, when he was gunned down outside his medical clinic. The crime, committed in a well-lit, public space across from a drive-in theatre, stunned the small community. At 1:40 AM on Saturday, September 28, 1974, police got a call about a traffic accident on State Highway 77 in Crittenden County Arkansas, three miles north of the Lake David Overpass. When they got there they found a 1964 Chevrolet which was stopped in the southbound lane of the highway. Near the abandoned car in a ditch, they found the body of 35-year-old Fred New Jr., a married father of three who worked the night shift at a local trucking company. Fred had been shot, three times, at very close range, with a shotgun. He had been shot in the neck, the side and the elbow. His shoes and socks had been removed and he had no identification. His pockets were turned out and the money he had on him which according to his wife was around $200, had been stolen. There was blood in the front of the car. Fred was lying in a pool of blood near the back of the vehicle - so either his killer or killers threw him out of the car, or he stumbled out after being shot and his killer fired the final shot or shots outside the car. Police got the call about Fred’s car after another driver ran into it, as it was stalled on the highway. But that driver fled the scene. And then, near where Fred’s body was found, police learned that a local gas station had been robbed. So they had a robbery, a hit-and-run, and a brutal execution style murder - all in the same night in the same small town.
