We have guest on today's episode is hoping to bring attention and light to a very cold case.  A few weeks ago, I had the honor and pleasure of speaking to 11 time Emmy award-winning (to name a few) creative composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and NOW filmmaker, Dan Brown Junior.  Because you listen to this podcast and many other podcasts across the true crime landscape, I can say with a reasonable degree of certainty that you have most likely heard Dan's work…somewhere…on networks such as ABC,CBS, NBC,  Disney, A & E,  Investigation Discovery, Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, History Channel, Hallmark, NFL, HBO, TLC, HLN, Oxygen,, BET, AMC, Apple, Crime & Investigation… on shows such as Dateline, Snapped, Unspeakable Crimes, The Hunt for the Zodiac Killer, Pitbulls & Parolees, Killer Beside Me, Catfish, The Hunt with John Walks, Deadline Crime with Tamron Hall, Wives with Knives, American Greed, The Disappearance of Maura Murray, Very Scary People, Forensic Files II, The Disappearance of Crystal Roberts, A Current Affair…to name a few…there are literally thousands of places where you've heard his work and today, we will put…at least a voice to the musician who woke up one day and decided he wanted to “write the music you hear on the crime shows”.  With that, Dan created Crimesonics in 2018 with a singular goal in mind…to take over the sound of crime television, films and games worldwide by supplying the globe with exquisitely criminal production music.  Since then, Crimesonics, under Dan's creative vision and leadership, has amassed an eclectic repository of criminal and investigative music and sound effects, redefining what Crime TV could sound like.  Dan has since crossed over into filmmaking with a project that is also a passion, with his documentary Girl Forgotten: What Happened To Brianna Wells.  You heard the trailer of Dan's film at the opening, a link to which is in the show notes where you can watch and subscribe to Crimesonics on YouTube…which you're going to want to once you learn who Brianna was and is…and the ongoing efforts to solve her murder.  With his documentary, Dan hopes to bring light to a case that has been languishing in darkness for more than a decade.  This is Killafornia Dreaming's interview with Dan Brown JuniorHAVE TIPS?:https://silentwitness.org/cases/brianna-wells-1800-e-mobile-lanealley-phoenix/(480) WITNESS (948-6377)1-800-343-TIPS (8477)(480)TESTIGO (837-8446) for SpanishSOURCES:https://crimesonics.com/https://www.danbrownjr.com/about/https://www.azfamily.com/2021/08/18/cold-case-still-no-arrest-7-years-after-teens-body-found-phoenix-alley/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-DJ3p_VJt8https://silentwitness.org/cases/brianna-wells-1800-e-mobile-lanealley-phoenix/

On the night of August 14, 1985, twenty-year-old Kristin O'Connell left a party in Ovid, NY to go for a walk. Two days later, her nude body was discovered near a cornfield along a rural county road; she had been stabbed in the chest and her throat was cut. The unsolved murder of Kristin O'Connell has baffled local New York investigators for decades. At the time of her murder, Kristin had traveled from Minnesota to New York to visit a young man she'd met a few months earlier while on Spring Break in Florida. According to witnesses, Kristin wasn't wearing shoes when she left the party and she wasn't carrying a purse. Several witnesses reported having seen Kristin walking that night between 11:30 pm and 12:15 am, when she was seen talking to one or possible two men in a car. Roughly ten minutes later, several people reported hearing a loud scream coming from the area where her body was discovered. In the decades since Kristin's murder, police have interviewed dozens of witnesses and followed up on thousands of leads, yet the case remains no closer to being solved than it was in the days following the discovery of the body. Please sign the Petition to override the decision to not permit 'touch DNA' to potentially solve this cold case! visit https://www.change.org/p/family-demands-dna-testing-by-othram-labs-in-the-kristin-o-connell-cold-caseThank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAllen, Matha. 1985. In 1958, the Tuck family was plagued by a series of eerie, spontaneous fires – flames that defied logic, burned with strange colors, and followed them wherever they went, leaving behind a haunting with more questions than answers.IN THIS EPISODE: In the late 1950s, the Tuck family of Alabama found themselves at the center of a terrifying ordeal as mysterious fires spontaneously erupted in their home. Despite their best efforts to escape the flames, the fiery phenomenon followed them from one residence to another, consuming their possessions and leaving them homeless. We'll look at this case and other similar ones where the seeming explanation is nothing short of paranormal. (Paranormal Flames) *** In the sleepy Kentish hamlet of Charing, a centuries-old mystery unfolds every May Day. As the clock strikes midnight, ghostly children emerge from their moss-encrusted graves, their ethereal feet dancing to the silent fiddle's tune. It's all part of the "Night of the Dancing Feet." (Dancing After Death) *** Before his wife's murder in June 2009, Eli Weaver had numerous affairs with women he met through online dating sites, where he called himself an "Amish Stud." But only one mistress was willing to kill for him. (Eli Weaver, Amish Stud and Murderer) *** The American West evokes iconic images often seen in movies: bold adventures, noon shootouts, resolute sheriffs and marshals maintaining order, and the cavalry arriving just in time. However, the history of the Wild West, replete with myths and stereotypes, presents a more complex and sometimes disturbing reality about justice in that era. (Wild West Justice) *** On the morning of July 13, 1997, the body of Denise Johnson was discovered inside her burning childhood home in Kill Devil Hills, NC. Emergency responders quickly realized they weren't dealing with a simple arson, but a murder as well.  Now, more than two decades later, the case remains unsolved. (The Unsolved Murder of Denise Johnson) *** Hachishakusama, often referred to as the "Japanese Slender Man," is a haunting figure from Japanese urban legends that rivals the terror of her American counterpart. While the Slender Man has gained a cult-like following and has even inspired real-life horror stories, Hachishakusama's tale is equally spine-chilling and capable of keeping you up at night. Episode 358: In Los Angeles, California, in the autumn of 1969, along winding Mulholland Drive, a young woman's body was discovered, brutally stabbed more than 150 times, her identity shrouded in mystery for nearly half a century. This Jane Doe, known only as case number 59, would lie nameless for the next 46 years, her story untold and her family unaware of her tragic fate. In a chilling twist, the proximity of her death to the infamous Tate-LaBianca murder scenes led investigators down a twisted path of speculation. The brutal nature of the crime sparked whispers of a possible connection to one of America's most notorious cults — the Manson Family. It wasn't until 2016 that modern forensic techniques finally gave her a name: Reet Silvia Jurvetson, a 19-year-old from Montreal who had ventured to L.A. with dreams as big as the Hollywood sign. Despite her identity now being known, Reet Jurvetson's murder remains unsolved. Her family is still hoping for answers more than 55 years later. Elizabeth Short in life, The Black Dahlia in death. What do people really understand about the woman before she became the poster girl for true crime curiousities? Most know her as the Black Dahlia, but few know Elizabeth Short was a young woman whose life was marked by tragedy long before her brutal 1947 murder made headlines across America. In part one, we separate fact from fiction in the life of Elizabeth Short, who was born and raised in Medford, Massachusetts. Her tragic story has been sensationalized for decades, but few know about the real woman behind the gruesome headlines.Born in Hyde Park, Boston in 1924, Elizabeth was the middle daughter of five girls. Her early years took a devastating turn when her father, Cleo Short, lost everything in the 1929 Wall Street Crash and abandoned his family, staging his own suicide by leaving his car on a bridge. For twelve years, Elizabeth's mother Phoebe believed she was a widow, struggling alone to raise five daughters during the Great Depression. The family's world was upended again in 1942 when a letter arrived from the supposedly dead Cleo, revealing he was alive and living in California. Elizabeth, seeking connection with the father she thought dead, traveled west only to find disappointment. Their reunion lasted barely a month. Her life continued on a path of heartbreak when her boyfriend, decorated WWII pilot Major Matt Gordon, died in a plane crash just weeks before Japan's surrender in 1945.Despite media portrayal of Elizabeth as a "party girl," records reveal just one minor brush with the law—an underage drinking incident. The nickname "Black Dahlia" wasn't media sensationalism but originated during her time in Long Beach, inspired by her striking appearance: dark hair, pale skin, and signature red lipstick. The cruel irony of Elizabeth Short's story lies in how she's remembered only for her brutal end, while the resilient women in her family—her mother and sisters who lived well into their 90s—carried the burden of never knowing what happened to their beloved Elizabeth. By exploring her life before the headlines, we honor the real woman who existed beyond the infamous case that still captivates America's imagination. This is part one. In the next episode, I examine Elizabeth Short's final days and the enduring mystery of how this young woman met this fate and wSend a message to the showSupport the showNext live show, Thurs 3/13 at Off Cabot in Beverly, Mass. March 3rd: Steven Fisher and Melissa Gregory's Bodies Found (1983) Not all cases can be wrapped up with a bow and confidence that justice has been served. On March 3rd 1983 the bodies of a young man and young woman were found on a Ranch in Iowa. Though investigators were pretty confident they knew who killed the pair and why, the case lacks answers and, above all, justice for those who were killed. https://cold-justice-franchise.fandom.com/wiki/Copper_Dollar_Ranch, https://iowacoldcases.org/case-summaries/melisa-gregory-and-steven-fisher/, https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2017/02/21/theresa-supino-cold-justice-copper-dollar-ranch/98193736/, https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2014/03/04/arrest-made-in-newton-cold-case/6002029/, https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2962426/Mother-57-charged-grisly-Iowa-hammer-claw-murders-husband-girlfriend-31-YEARS-not-guilty.html, https://who13.com/news/former-owner-testifies-about-drug-dealing-at-copper-dollar-ranch/, https://www.cbsnews.com/news/woman-arrested-in-1983-iowa-horse-ranch-double-murder/, https://www.kcci.com/article/authorities-announce-arrest-in-31-year-old-double-homicide/6889794 Learn more about your ad choices. Late on the evening of February 12th 1945, 55 year old Mary "Helen" Hoyles  finished her shift at the American Red Cross Club on High Street in the centre of Southampton, and began the short walk home. Helen's journey should have taken just a quarter of an hour but she did not make it safely home.Early the following morning Helen's half-naked body was found in a cul-de-sac near her lodgings on New Road. She had been sexually assaulted and strangled. A clue was found at the scene which made police think the case would be solved within a week, though this confidence proved misplaced.Over the next couple of years several suspects cropped up in the investigation and the "clue" took detectives to mainland Europe in their search for the killer. In truth the culprit may have been closer to home.Sources for this episode can be found hereSupport the showFollow Persons Unknown: Instagram and FacebookEmail: personsunknownpod@gmail.comWebsite with Transcripts:https://personsunknown.buzzsprout.com/

On the afternoon of August 7, 1972, sixteen-year-old Jeannette DePalma left her house in Springfield, NJ and was never seen alive again. Six weeks later, Jeannette's remains were discovered when a neighborhood dog returned to its owner at a newly built apartment complex, carrying Jeannette's badly decomposed arm in its mouth. The news of Jeannette's death spread quickly around the small town and the rumors about the circumstances were not far behind. According to witnesses, the girl's body was surrounded by occult symbols and objects, and within a few weeks news outlets began reporting that Jeannette had been the victim of ritual human sacrifice. For more than five decades, the murder of Jeannette DePalma had fascinated New Jersey residents and has even captured the attention of news outlets from around the country and occasionally around the world. Yet the more coverage the case receives, the more the rumors of occult murder and Satanism seem to grow, obscuring the more relevant facts and the tragedy at the heart of the case.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1972. Amber Tuccaro disappeared in Edmonton, Canada in August 2010. Despite her family being worried, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police were reluctant to call her a missing person. Unfortunately, the investigation was botched from the beginning with several missteps by the RCMP leading to Amber's case going cold. 2 years later, Amber's body was found in Leduc County, and her case became a homicide investigation. An audio recording from a phone call Amber made while she was in the car with the suspect was released, but the man could not be identified. Amber's family is sure that the fact that she was an Indigenous Canadian woman was a part of why the RCMP mishandled the investigation into her case. Amber's case remains unsolved to this day.
