Lottie Snead was much loved and well respected in her small town of Chincoteague, on Virginia's Eastern Shore. In 1964, the 54-year-old mother of three was found murdered in her own home. Jerzy Strzadala was a quiet and reserved man who first came to the UK as a prisoner of war.  Originally from Poland, Jerzy trained as a miner and found employment at the Tir Herbert colliery near Aberdare, South Wales. Around lunchtime on Tuesday, April 20th 1948, his dead and bloodied body was discovered by three schoolboys playing in a local park. Jerzy, who was known as "George" by his Welsh colleagues, had been stabbed over forty times. The brutal attack had occurred the previous evening, which was the day after his 33rd birthday. Scotland Yard were called, and acclaimed detective Chief Inspector R H Fabian arrived to lead the investigation. A description was given of a mystery man seen meeting with Jerzy in the park, and the hunt for the killer was on.Rumours and whispers circulated in the community concerning the motive for the attack, and indeed, some have never completely gone away. Theories were rife, connecting the murder to the Second World War, the world of espionage, and even the suicide of a fellow Polish miner. On August 23, 1987, teenagers Don Henry and Kevin Ives were struck by a Union Pacific freight train near the Crooked Creek trestle in Alexander, Arkansas. The first official explanation was shocking: authorities said the friends had become incapacitated by marijuana, fallen asleep on the tracks, and died in a tragic accident. Their families did not accept it. Independent medical opinions challenged the THC-intoxication theory, the original accidental finding was changed to “undetermined,” and a Saline County grand jury later classified the deaths as a probable homicide. Yet despite the finding, no one was ever charged. In this episode, we trace the timeline of the “Boys on the Tracks” case—from the early-morning train collision and disputed forensic evidence to the allegations of drug trafficking, local corruption, witness deaths, disappearances, and the later Mena and political conspiracy narratives. We also examine what is documented, what remains allegation, and why the murder of Don Henry and Kevin Ives is still one of Arkansas's most haunting unsolved true-crime cases. Our card this week is Mary Kathleen Rodriguez, the 5 of Spades from Texas. For more than three decades, the question of who killed 26-year-old Mary Kathleen Rodriguez has hung over the town of West Odessa, Texas. Known as Kathleen to those who loved her, the live-in nanny was found brutally beaten to death inside the home of the couple she worked for. Although the case has changed hands from one detective to another, the original facts of the case remain the same. There was no sign of forced entry, meaning Kathleen almost certainly knew whoever came to the door that night. And the one person who could have been on the other side of that door is still at large. When a realtor entered the Toronto home of Barry and Honey Sherman on December 15, 2017, she expected the couple to be out of town and the house to be empty. The agent showed a young couple around the massive home, room by room, and when they reached the bottom floor, where the pool was located, they found the bodies of the Shermans, leather belts cinched around their necks and secured to a metal railing. To the Toronto Police Homicide Squad, the deaths of Barry and Honey were suspicious, but they were hesitant to label the deaths a homicide and thought it was possible they were dealing with a case of murder-suicide. There was no sign of forced entry, nothing appeared to be missing, and other than the belts around their necks, only Honey had suffered obvious injuries.  It took multiple autopsies and significant advocacy from the family, but eventually the Sherman's deaths were labeled a homicide. But the question remained, who would have wanted to kill the older couple, and if not for money, why? Maggie Hume was 20‑year‑oldwoman from Battle Creek, Michigan who was found murdered on August 18, 1982, after failing to show up for work. The investigation quickly split between the Battle Creek Police, who suspected her boyfriend Jay Carter, and the Calhoun County Prosecutor's Office, who believed her downstairs neighbor Michael Ronning was responsible. Because the two agencies could not agree on a suspect, the case stalled and was never brought to trial. Our card this week is Benjamin Rosario, a Wild Card from Connecticut.  Most cold case investigators will tell you that murder is a dirty business. But once in a while, there's a murder so horrific that it could be mistaken for an urban legend.  The unsolved homicide of Benjamin is one of those cases.   It began on a summer evening much like any other for Benjamin. He left his apartment and headed off to his local bar just a few blocks away from home in Bridgeport's East End. No doubt the neighbors expected to see him the next day, as they usually did – singing Spanish love songs on his porch.  But that's not how things transpired… Benjamin's story would end with a grim discovery in the middle of a road just a five-minute drive from his apartment. In August 1994, Sherry Lewis was showing a vacant home in Decatur, Illinois before attending the town's summer celebration festival. When she didn't show up, her family was concerned. Then, Sherry was found dead in the home she was supposed to be showing. To this day, her case remains unsolved. Three years later, two states away in Pennsylvania, Charlotte Fimiano had an appointment to show a home in Bethlehem. She never returned home, and the next day, she was found murdered. Her case also remains unsolved with no suspects and no motive. While the cases are unrelated, it is a reminder that this could happen to those showing houses. Sherry and Charlotte deserve justice and their family deserves answers.
