In this episode I host a parasite instead of a conventional guest. In the Mexican jungle, deforestation unleashed Leishmania, a parasite vectored by a sandfly, and I am infected. Marked by volcanic lesions on my left cheek and right hand I'm undergoing an impatient transformation(TM), and as I wait for medicine to arrive, I examine my experience through shamanic, ecological, and pragmatic lenses. Relaying the story in classic SPAOP-fashion, I investigate themes of inter-species diplomacy, the thin line between a parasite and a symbiot, between psychedelic ecology and ecodelic psychology, between parasitology and parapsychology, and contemplate the merits of redemption. Having rescued all but one of the missing people of Amanita Town, Team Catapult convinced Pandora to allow them to search the remainder of the mine for the last abducted resident. But a sinister power still lurks in the shadows of the cave, a dark passenger carried by the unaware Jacques. Can Virgil guide his beloved companion back to the surface? Will our young initiates find what they're searching for to complete their mission? And what will be revealed if our heroes once again find themselves in the light of day? The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that about 800,000 people died in 2016 by their own hand, mostly in low- and middle-income countries. As this week marks World Suicide Prevention Day, WHO is appealing to countries to develop suicide prevention strategies and a toolkit has been developed to help communities address the issue effectively. In this episode of our Lid is On podcast, Yasmina Guerda spoke to WHO's focal point for suicide prevention, Dr. Alexandra Fleischmann, and to Sheilla Akwara, a singer from Kenya who survived several suicide attempts herself and who is now working with youth to share messages of hope. In part-two of their continuing series to expose the evil and depravity of common children's songs, the Chads make a shocking discovery. Many of the brain-warping songs we force-feed to our impressionable young children were created by the same singular villain: This Old Man. The scope of his dastardly enterprise is breath-taking, spanning the globe and dozens of generations, his siren-song has weaved itself into the subconscious of millions of children. Be there as the Chads spring a trap on The Old Man, and confront him at the top of his lonely mountain, and try to bring closure to this global conspiracy, once and for all.
