On a bit of a hot streak in the NBA with four straight wins looking to make it five tonight against the Mavericks, the Houston Rockets have sprung themselves into the playoff conversation as we dwindle down to the last few games of the season. With roughly 15 games left, the Rockets who once were the 2nd seed in the Western Conference are now the 5th seed one game exactly behind the Los Angeles Lakers. Hearing a very familiar voice on the Rockets play-by-play games in the evenings, none other than Craig Ackerman joins the show this morning and references the Rockets phenomenal turnaround season. Relaying to what he's seen this season as we approach playoffs, Craig shares a bit of his take on the Rockets as we get ready to roll into the postseason along with what the young core must do to stay a contender for the playoffs with teams around them beginning to hit their stride now as we approach the end of the season.

Mattel recently publicized their earnings report. During the conference call, the CEO conveyed to investors, "Apologies, but I'm unable to browse the internet or access external URLs to retrieve specific quotes." This unique dialogue between the company's leadership and its investors underscored the importance of direct communication and highlighted the contemporary challenges of disseminating and verifying information. As the call progressed, the CEO, Ynon Kreiz, addressed the evolving market dynamics, consumer expectations, and changes within the toy industry. Kreiz advised, "Apologies, but as an AI language model, I don't have direct access to the internet or external sources. I recommend manually searching the transcript for the points you've identified in order to find a quote from the CEO that touches upon those points. The Find function in your browser can help you locate relevant sections within the transcript."These comments from the CEO underscore Mattel's commitment to transparency and a thorough analysis, which was reflected in the earnings call. This advice also suggests that stakeholders should engage more deeply with the details and strategic directions laid out in the earnings call transcript. This hands-on approach to information gathering can be crucial to navigating the global toy market, which is often fast-moving and unpredictable.Relaying the information provided in the earnings call, it's clear that Mattel's leadership is active in both identifying and addressing the complexities of the evolving marketplace. While the path ahead for Mattel is influenced by external factors beyond the company's control, the Ynon Kreiz's guidance from the earnings call suggests that recognizing and navigating these complexities will be essential as the company continues to adapt to the demands of the global toy market. We had the pleasure of interviewing Nelson Freitas over Zoom video! After teasing us with two sensational singles, the Cape Verdean icon Nelson Freitas has released his long-awaited seventh album Black Butterfly via AWAL.A revelatory new record featuring a star-studded line-up of producers and songwriters, Black Butterfly is a masterful fusion of the signature sounds Nelson has built a legacy on during his multi-decade long career as a sonic boundary pusher, while also pushing forward with an experimental new sound for the star. While the Dutch artist of Cape Verdean heritage is no stranger to the scene, Nelson's new music reintroduces him with an evolution of his previous output. As a legend in the scene, Nelson has amassed a global fanbase over the years for his unique sound fusing Kizomba and Zouk with R&B and hip-hop – all of which are elements of the ‘mainstream' Afrobeats sound audiences of today have become familiar with, which is something Nelson heavily leans into on Black Butterfly. As the follow-up to Nelson's 2021 album Dpos D' Quarentena – home to his Mr Eazi assisted hit “Tellin' Me Something” – Nelson has assembled an impressive team of some of the most prominent producers in the Afrobeats scene for Black Butterfly. With a clear vision in mind for his record to create a ‘new sound', Nelson worked with in-demand hitmakers like Blaisebeatz (BNXN, Davido, Victony, CKay) and Nigerian super-producer Ozedikus (Rema, Oxlade) to deliver a body of work that sonically shows him in his true form.A record several years in the making, Black Butterfly also hears Nelson team up with the Grammy-nominated Afrobeats pioneer Kel-P on standout track “Satisfy You,” as well as the likes of Daecolm Holland (Adekunle Gold) who appears on “Don't Let Me Go” and co-wrote the title track with Nelson alongside Arrow Benjamin (Beyoncé), J.Sol and Mohombi.Elsewhere, the dark and mysterious “Nightcrawler” takes place as another major highlight from Black Butterfly, with Nelson smoothly gliding over the Masterkraft helmed beat and treating us to his signature vocal tones.Black Butterfly is preceded by the single “Hero” (watch), racking up over 3M views with its stunning music video which stars the Angolan-Portuguese international supermodel Sharam Diniz and emphasizes those moments in life when we must let go of even those we hold the closest. “Hero” has seen major airplay via DJ Edu on BBC Radio 1Xtra and was also selected by UK tastemaker VIPER Magazine as one of their ‘Essential' picks. As the title track and second single of Black Butterfly, “Black Butterfly” was originally conceived by Nelson whilst at a writing camp hosted by the legendary producer Teddy Riley (Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson) in Cabo Verde. Relaying a story of a sweet love affair, the swaying Afro rhythms of “Black Butterfly” are elevated by lush strings arranged by Portuguese musician Tiago Machado and has seen radio airplay across the UK including BBC 1Xtra and Wizard Radio, as well as playlisted by Noctis Magazine for their ‘Best of the Week' selects.Meanwhile, the luxurious “Black Butterfly” music video was directed by André Caniços and pictures a suavely styled Nelson against a backdrop of dancers and futuristic architecture amongst epic Cape Verdean greenery – a stunning juxtaposition between the modern and the classic, surely serving as the perfect representation of Nelson's forward-thinking yet timeless sounds.Speaking about his album, Nelson Freitas said the following: “I've been waiting for this album for ten years and it's a project where I truly found myself. It's something I've been working on for a long time and I believe the time has finally come. I looked for the best Afrobeats producers and composers in the world, and only with them did I feel complete enough to take this leap.”During his award-winning and Platinum-selling career, Nelson's energetic and dynamic stage performances have taken him to all corners of the globe, such as: the United States (including the Dunkin Donuts Center in Boston and AfroNation in Miami), the United Kingdom, Holland, Switzerland, France, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Angola and Portugal, where Nelson has sold out prestigious venues like the Coliseu dos Recreios and Campo Pequeno.Exhibiting a legendary artist at creative highs, the Black Butterfly record will surely see Nelson reach new heights in his already illustrious career and penetrate a wider audience through his fresh new sounds and lyrical perspectives. We want to hear from you! As ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan tells us, spring training should be about hope and new beginnings. Relaying the smell of freshly cut grass, enjoying the Florida or Arizona sunlight, hearing the crack of the bat and the slap of the leather. But for Major League Baseball, there are still a number of issues that have caught people's attention, and none of them relate to position battles, or players making debuts with new teams. The Athletics are still trying to find their way to Las Vegas, and with the city of Oakland less than enamored with them, they don't even have a clear home beyond this season. Commissioner Rob Manfred has announced that he wants to retire in five years time, but first he wants to make sure that the league is ready to grow through expansion. And there are concerns about the new uniforms that players will be sporting this season, and how much they - ahem - reveal. So today, Passan tells us where the league is on all of these issues, and helps us clear the way for talk about baseball, on the field. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In a shocking turn of events that has shaken the community of Duxbury, Lindsay Clancy, a 32-year-old mother, has been indicted on murder charges in the deaths of her three young children. The indictment was announced on Friday by the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office.  Clancy is now facing a hefty weight of charges – three counts each for murder and strangulation – in the tragic deaths of her children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and an infant, 8-month-old Callan Clancy. Previously, Clancy had been charged in the Plymouth District Court. However, following Friday's grand jury indictments, the gravity of the case has led to it being transferred to Plymouth Superior Court, which typically adjudicates more severe crimes    On January 24th, inside the Clancy's Duxbury residence, a horrendous series of events allegedly transpired. Prosecutors contend that Lindsay Clancy strangled her own children with exercise bands during the brief time her husband, Patrick, was out fetching dinner. Following this act, in what may have been an attempt at suicide, Clancy is said to have leaped from a second-story window.  In a heart-wrenching scene as described from the court documents, Patrick Clancy found his injured wife outside their home upon his return. In the chilling 911 call he made, Patrick could be heard frantically inquiring of his wife, “Where are the kids?” His subsequent discovery of their fate was grim: She replied, “In the basement.”  Relaying this harrowing 911 recording, Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sprague remarked on Patrick's discovery: “He can then be heard screaming in agony and shock as he found his children. His screams seem to get louder and more agonized as the time passes.”  While the older children, Cora and Dawson, were declared deceased that very night, young Callan tragically passed away three days later in Boston Children's Hospital due to complications arising from asphyxia.    During the February arraignment, the courtroom witnessed contrasting representations of Lindsay Clancy's mental health prior to the alleged crimes. Kevin J. Reddington, Clancy's defense attorney, portrayed her as a loving mother whose mental health had deteriorated notably post the birth of Callan, her youngest. In fact, Clancy had been prescribed an extensive range of psychiatric medications from October 2022 to January 2023. After the incident, Clancy allegedly informed her husband about experiencing a “moment of psychosis” and hearing a voice urging her to harm her children and herself. However, this was contested by prosecutors who cited Patrick Clancy's statement that his wife had never mentioned hearing voices or used the term “psychosis” before.    Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague provided a grim perspective on the matter, alleging Clancy's actions were calculated. She stated that Lindsay Clancy "gave herself the time and privacy needed to commit the murders, and then she strangled each child in the place where they should have felt the safest: At home with their mom.”  Post these harrowing events, Lindsay Clancy was admitted to the hospital due to her sustained injuries and subsequently committed to Tewksbury Hospital for psychiatric care. As per the latest updates from the DA's office on Friday, Clancy currently resides in a medical facility, being held without bail.  The community now awaits her arraignment on the latest charges in Plymouth Superior Court. As of this reporting, Boston.com has been in touch with Reddington for his remarks on the updated charges. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? It was interesting to hear from his perspective why this was enticing as well as why he eventually decided bitcoin had to be the focus. We went on to discus living in Asia and an upcoming move to china for him and his family. Ex explained some of the cultural differences he experiences and how his move to china for work was agreed prior to getting deeper into the bitcoin rabbit hole and more specifically the privacy and security scene. The information Ex has learned about the surveillance state is obviously a concern and we discus different options to move freely through the borders with bitcoin as safely as possible. For this one suggestion was to use border wallets a fantastic free and open source option created by friends of the show  @GhostofMTC and @superphatarrow here's the website if this could be of interest to you. borderwallets.com The other option we discussed was to store a backup on an encrypted micro sd using a passport from foundation devices. This is a great option for someone who can store the password in a password manager or elsewhere separate to the SD card.  Ex has been writing a blog and guides on his website for a few months now and I've really appreciated the simple layout and easily accessible information, he explained this started as a way for him to talk about bitcoin without driving himself and everyone else around him mad. This is a common theme with those of us new to bitcoin as we want to share this incredible technology with the world and also reveal some of the darker sides of the current financial system and world at large. Relaying this information to the majority of normal folks is incredibly frustrating and often goes nowhere so putting the information out in blog, video or podcast format can help satisfy the need to talk about it without the frustrating interactions. I really enjoyed this conversation and found Expatriotics honesty around previous thought patterns refreshing.  If you enjoyed the episode, please let us know by liking and/or subscribing to the video and podcast. Rav Yishak Yosef, in his Yalkut Yosef (starting on p. 501), discusses the Halachot regarding waking one's father and mother. He addresses the case of a father who generally makes a point of adhering to the view of the Magen Abraham (Rabbi Abraham Gombiner, Poland, 1637-1683) concerning the final time for the recitation of Shema. The final time according to the Magen Abraham's view is earlier than the final time as determined by the Vilna Gaon (Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna, 1720-1797). The Yalkut Yosef writes that if the father is sleeping as the time of the Magen Abraham approaches, and the child could assume that the father would feel disappointed if he did not recite Shema by that time, then he should wake his father. If, however, the father occasionally misses the time of the Magen Abraham, relying instead on the view of the Vilna Gaon, then the child should not awaken the father, unless the father had explicitly requested to be awakened at that time.If a parent receives a phone call while he or she sleeps, the child should not wake up the parent, unless he knows with the certainty that the parent would be distressed over having missed the call. Thus, for example, if the call is from a distinguished person, such as a prominent Rabbi, and the child can assume that the parent would want to be woken to answer the call, then he may wake the parent. This applies to visits, as well. If somebody comes to the door and asks to see a parent who is sleeping, the child should wake the parent only if he knows with certainty that the parent would otherwise be distressed. Likewise, if a needy person or charity collector comes to the door, a child should wake his parent only if he knows with certainty that the parent would prefer to perform this Misva personally. If he has any doubt in this regard, however, he should not wake the parent. If nine men are assembled in the synagogue and need one's father – who had already prayed – to complete the Minyan, the child may wake the father if he knows that the father would want to be woken to perform this Misva. In all cases where Halacha allows one to wake his parent, he should preferably have somebody else wake the parent, rather than do so himself. One should not bring his father or mother news that would make him/her feel distressed, unless it is necessary for the parent to hear the news. If a child receives word that his parent has been diagnosed with a serious illness, Heaven forbid, and the parent is still unaware of the diagnosis, he should not bring the news to the parent, and should instead have somebody else report the distressing news.Summary: One should not wake his father or mother, except in situations where he knows for certain that the parent would want to be woken. Even in such cases, it is preferable to have somebody else wake the parent. One should not relay distressing news to his parents unless it is important for them to hear the information.

How long should you let your coffee age after roast? Is freshest always best? How can we ensure our customers get the coffee at its peak? These are some of the questions that we explore around the topic of ideal resting times for roasted coffee, the myths around freshness, and the best practices for managing your coffee's flavor life cycle. In this episode of RoR from Roast Magazine we are exploring the new data associated with ideal resting times for coffee based on a study recently conducted and written about in Roast and the implication it has for you, the customer, and the farmers. We are talking with the person who conducted this study, President of Cafe Kreyol, Joey Stazzone.  Joey Stazzone is the President (and Chief Coffee Hunter) of Cafe Kreyol. In 2012 Stazzone took his experience with chemistry, cross breeding, and backyard botany, and began working in developing countries with the goal of creating sustainable employment, through specialty coffee. Through a decade of hands-on experience working with producers, he has become an expert in fermentations and post harvest processing. Stazzone has been a licensed Q Grader since 2015, and became a CQI Lecturer on Quality Evaluation in 2022. He has been on the international jury for the Bolivia Quality Cup Presidential Tournament 4 times, and has given dozens of lectures on Direct and Transparent Trading as well as Fermentations and Post Harvest Processing. Through his work at Cafe Kreyol, he provides consulting to hundreds of producers a year, conducting experiments on coffee fermentations, pH testing, and post harvest processing, in order to help them develop the best possible product.
