As debates about pace of play abound on the world's professional tours, we get both sides of the argument from major champions Lucas Glover and Collin Morikawa about the 'aimpoint' green reading method. Is aimpoint an innovative, helpful way to plot out a putt? Or has it become a drag on pace of play that's goes against the etiquette of the game? Our crew of Damon Hack and Ryan Lavner weigh both sides of the issue. Corey Pavin might have earned his 15 PGA TOUR victories before aimpoint became prevalent on the circuit, but that doesn't mean he can't still roll 'em in! The 2-time winner of this week's Genesis Invitational stops by to talk about one of his favorite TOUR stops before he tees it up at the Chubb Classic on the PGA TOUR Champions. Due to the Palisades Fire earlier this year, the Genesis' was moved from it's regular home of Riviera Country Club to the South Course at Torrey Pines -- the same place where Andrew Novak nearly won the Farmer's Insurance Open several weeks ago. Novak stops by to discuss his near win, and how he feels about taking another crack at Torrey Pines for his first-ever TOUR win. Yeahlimi Noh doesn't have to wonder when her first win on the LPGA Tour will come! She comes on the show to discuss her maiden win last week at the Cognizant Founder's Cup. Corey Pavin (19:38) Andrew Novak (30:03) Yeahlimi Noh (38:21)

Cole Young has done a lot in a very short time frame. This was even more apparent when I learned he is 5 years younger than I even thought. What he's building with his golf-inspired apparel brand, Metalwood Studio, has already far-surpassed the point of being “impressive” to me. We planned a golf outing not far from his hometown of Carlsbad, California at none other than Torrey Pines & more specifically the South Course for those of you scoring at home. Like many guests on this show, Cole and I met through Instagram. I heard him on the Erik Anders Lang podcast & immediately reached out. There were so many parallels in our lives I was dying to talk to Cole. Prior to teeing it up, we discussed his introduction to golf, his experience playing in college followed by what brands he was enthralled with as a Marketing major. We certainly share a strong value of community - something Cole took note of growing up surrounded by skate culture. We discuss our shared distaste for gatekeeping and how hype culture somewhat occurs on its own. As it happens, Cole is one of the more connected dudes I've ever met. If you were to name someone in the apparel industry doing things of note, Cole probably knows them. If you were to name a professional skateboarder in and around LA who happens to play golf, Cole has probably already played with them. His network blows my mind and I love to see it. I could go on but I don't feel like making this intro any longer. Brass tax: hanging with Cole is the perfect elixir of humor and knowledge and I can't wait to get together again soon. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. In this episode of the Planned Solutions Incorporated Podcast, The US stock market has rebounded from its mid-June lows rallying 13% and cutting the losses for the year in half. However, the market is now nearing a key resistance line defined by the mid-March lows and the late-May/early-June highs. Should the market fail to push through this resistance level the lows from mid-June could be revisited. On the other hand, should the market push through this level the next point of resistance is 10% higher than the current price. Also, The US economy has likely contracted for two consecutive quarters based on the first estimate for the second quarter of 2022 economic output. However, household spending has remained positive for the first two quarters showing that the consumer remains strong. Meanwhile, government spending has declined as the stimulus spending from early 2021 is compared to current spending levels. And, Investors typically want to avoid taking distributions from their investment accounts when the markets are down. However, those who own an inherited IRA and are subject to the 10-year distribution rules may benefit from accelerating distributions when investment values are down and then reinvest the money in an after-tax investment account where a recovery in value may be subject to lower tax rates. This will also help free the account owner from the 10-year rule that is related to inherited IRAs. Plus a look at the Planned Solutions Incorporated Office Bulletin Board- The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 recently passed the Senate and is expected to soon pass the House of Representatives and be signed by the President. While this bill is scaled way back from the original Build Back Better bill it still contains numerous provisions that will take time for us to dig into. The bill includes new taxes, mostly on businesses, that are expected to generate $739 billion in increased tax revenue as well as spending of $433 billion, some of which includes individual tax credits such as those for purchasing electric vehicles. The bill also includes increased funding for the IRS in an attempt to increase tax collections. Unfortunately, it looks like most of this money will go to tax enforcement (increased audits) rather than IRS customer service which has made it nearly impossible for taxpayers to resolve tax issues. Therefore, taxpayers may face an increase in audits and tax notices with no additional resources to help them get these issues resolved. Save the date for the Harlan D. Wood Memorial Cancer Charity Golf Tournament which is scheduled for Friday, September 9th, 2022. We hope to build on the strong participation that we had last year and set a new record regarding funds raised for cancer charities again this year. In this episode of the Planned Solutions Incorporated Podcast, One of the themes of the stock market in 2022 has been the outperformance of value stocks over growth stocks. However, growth stocks have demonstrated a tendency to outperform value stacks when prices are trending upward as they have over the past six weeks. This may be a sign that growth stocks are more likely to lead market returns should the stock market recovery continue. And, Stock lending is now being offered to non-institutional investors as an enticement to use certain brokerage firms. Some investors are attracted to the idea of lending their stock holdings to other investors in order to earn a small amount of income on the loan. However, there are important risks as well as tax implications that investors need to consider before engaging in these more advanced investment strategies. In this episode of the Planned Solutions Incorporated Podcast, The stock market is currently testing a key level that could impact the performance of the market over the first six months of 2022. After declining in January, and then falling further in March, the stock market is now testing its lows from March. Should the market rebound in May it may create a double bottom which could be a positive sign going forward. However, if the market declines further, dipping below the March / April lows, it could mean that another leg down will come before the market finds a bottom. Also, Series I US Government Savings Bonds are currently offering attractive interest rates. The rates on these bonds are based on the rate of inflation which is currently quite high compared to other interest rates. However, investors should understand the rules surrounding these bonds including the limits on the amount that can be purchased, required holding periods, and the income tax implications. And, In an effort to uncover untaxed income the IRS is now requiring more and more companies to issue Form 1099-K to report transactions. This means that more credit card and third-party networks will be reporting income to taxpayers. In some cases, this may be taxable income that should have been reported anyway but in others, it may be payments for personal expenses, such as a friend reimbursing an individual for tickets to a concert or sporting event. Therefore, taxpayers may need to be more cautious when using these payment platforms. Plus a look at the Planned Solutions Incorporated Office Bulletin Board- Save the date for the Harlan D. We sat down with Brian at Montgomery Country Club, where he has long been a member and a course his father designed back in 1963, to talk about his lengthy career in golf course architecture and the firm’s impact on golf in this region.

Another Bridgestone Senior Players championship is in the books, and unlike 2020, fans were welcomed back to Firestone Country Club, and braved the heat to check out some golf. Don Padgett III is the executive director of the Bridgestone Senior Players, and he joined the Ray Horner Morning Show to recap the weekend that was at the South Course. Padgett was pleased with the return of the crowds, and he thanked all the volunteers and charities who took part in the third Seniors tournament. Steve Stricker won the tournament over last year's winner, Jerry Kelly, after an interesting final round. The contract for the Seniors tour is up after 2022, and Padgett says they hope to have it renewed and continue on, as next year's tournament is slated to begin July 6th, 2022.
You probably know that Geoff Ogilvy won the 2006 U.S. Open at Winged Foot. What you may have forgotten is that he also contended for the 2008 edition at Torrey Pines. In fact, at one point on Sunday, he was tied with eventual winner Tiger Woods. Now, 13 years later, the U.S. Open returns to the South Course at Torrey Pines, and Geoff joins Andy to preview the tournament. They run through five things that Andy will be watching for, and they also discuss Phil Mickelson's surprising win at Kiawah Island, Geoff's equally surprising affection for Torrey Pines South, and—of course—the mysteries of hang-gliding.
It was another win to add to the recent collection at the Palmetto Championship with Craig's 50/1 winner with Garrick Higgo making it 3 wins in 3 weeks for the podcast after Kokrak 45/1 and Armitage 66/1 previous. This week Craig & Jamie are joined by Oddschecker golf betting writer Niall Lyons @Betgolfworld and James Redmond @JRSportsTipster to preview this week's 3rd major of the season as we returns to the South Course at Torrey Pines GC for the 2021 US Open Championship. Jon Rahm is the favourite at 11/1 followed in by Dustin Johnson 14/1, Brooks Koepka 16/1 and defending 2020 Champion Bryson DeChambeau 16/1. It should be a great event this week with rough looking extra thick and tricky. Thanks to everyone who followed our podcast Twitter page @ChasingPars_Pod last night after Higgo success! Means alot all the best to everyone!

Greens looked good, typical Carolina course ..the low countryIf I was going to have an event on tour 1 time I would make a ridiculous trophy, a ridiculous jacket..just over the top.. make it memorable Worst scoreSmylie Kaufman..has no grins on his face after this past week.. smylie is actually his middle name..Carter is his first name..won the shriners in 2015 so he hung out with Timberlake at least once. Let's say 8 years old and besides the normal convo stuff - favorite super hero, favorite tee in the bag type stuff he asked who my fav golfer is..I deflected bc i wanted his answer first. I opened with rickie (safe bet), no. Rory. Nope..gotta be tiger. No chance.do you know what he said his fav golfer was ...brooks koepka. I was floored (also bandwagoner) so then he asked who mine was and I said bryson and do you know what he said "whose that?" ..lesson over bud! Golf shoes- what size andy so I can order the square shoes.. and im honestly banking on the shoes not working so I can have another rant about how stupid they are.Do you like spiked or spikeless- favorite styles..classic or the new sock shoes g4Back 9Torrey baby! Torrey Pines is named after a rare pine tree (the Pinus torreyana) that lives in only two locations – Santa Rosa Island off the coast of Santa Barbara and in San Diego within the Torrey Pines State Reserve. The Doctor who discovered the tree in 1850 was not Dr. Torrey; instead it was discovered by Dr. Charles Parry who named it in honor of Dr. John Torrey, who was his mentor. The original design of the course was laid out by William P. Bell but passed away before it was started. His son, William F. Bell – oversaw and completed the final course design. Torrey Pines Golf Course opened in 1957 and has two 18 hole courses on-site.Though sources seem to be inconsistent, Torrey Pines has been redesigned multiple times. Billy Casper, who then had a design partnership with golf architect David Rainville, redesigned both courses in 1975. This was followed by Stephen Halsey and Jack Daray, Jr. in 1988.The last redesign was in 2001 by Rees Jones. In hopes of being selected to host the US Open, Rees Jones was hired and set out to rebuild the South Course. The rebuild was a success and, in 2002, Torrey Pines was chosen to host the 2008 U.S. Open and will host the U.S Open again in 2021.Whats your forecast for next weekend?Do you pick phil? And do they pair bryson and brooks together? Or just hope to god they are tied going into sundayAny amateurs got a shot?Last amateur to win a major… Johnny Goodman in 1933No rickie- he did not make it to Torry. Missed a playoff by 1 shot in the qualifying Keegan bradley, jason day, brandt snedeker, lucas glover, cameron tringale, also missing..honorable mention keith Mitchell

He and Andy also touch on the recent renovation work at Torrey Pines, what to expect from the facility in the future, and some fun stories from the annual Farmers Insurance Open.

In his story in the new edition of McKellar Magazine (mckellarmagazine.com/shop) Geoff describes Ress Jones' 2019 redo of his 2001 redo of the San Diego muni as one of golf's biggest missed opportunites. In the podcast, he explains why.

Golf legend Jack Nicklaus will help the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) celebrate its Centennial this year. He'll headline a GAM Foundation gala fundraiser on Monday, June 17 at Oakland Hills CC, one of the original 14 clubs to form what would eventually become the GAM. The event will include golf on the famous South course, dinner and the fireside chat with Jack. Dinner only tickets are available at $300. The GAM 100 Celebration benefits the GAM Foundation including its Youth on Course program which allows kids ages 6 to 18 to play golf for five dollars or less at participating courses. HOUR Media is the presenting sponsor of the GAM 100 Celebration. Again Dinner only and the fireside chat with Jack Nicklaus tickets are still available at $300 and a limited amount of golf spots are available where you get to play your own ball on the iconic South Course at Oakland Hills. It was Oakland Hills where in 1961 Jack Nicklaus was fourth in the U.S. Open as a 21-year-old amateur. In 1991 he won the US Senior Open on the South course at Oakland Hills in a playoff with Chi Chi Rodriguez. On a side note Chi Chi's nephew Juan Rodriguez, Aloha Section PGA member is my neighbor and a wonderful person and player. Go to GAM.org for info about Dinner only tickets at $300 and the limited number of golf spots or sponsor opportunities or contact Steve Wilke at swilke@gam.org or 248-752-8842. Steve and I also talk about the GAM participating in the PGA TOUR Rocket Mortgage Classic Birdies for Charities. The program is centered around the first-ever PGA TOUR event in Detroit June 25-30 at the Detroit Golf Club. Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson are among the PGA Tour stars who will be in the field. Donations can be made by a per birdie pledge or by a flat rate donation. And donations received by May 31 will be entered to win a VIP Package for Two to the Rocket Mortgage Classic. The VIP Package includes two Honorary Observer positions for Saturday. Believe me Honorary Observer at a PGA tournament is very cool! They have a link on their website on how you can be a part of this opportunity the Rocket Mortgage Classic has created for our local non-profits including GAM. https://www.pgatour.com/tournaments/rocket-mortgage-classic.html
