We're jumping ahead to Jesus' arrest in John 18 this week to stay in step with Jesus' final week and our own Easter preparation. Don't worry: we'll return to a deep dive on Jesus' formative words in John 14-17 after Easter.

Max Burkholder stars as the lead of Seth MacFarlane's critically acclaimed series TED, a prequel to the hit film franchise. He plays the leading role of “John Bennet” (the younger version of Mark Wahlberg's character from the films), a good-hearted teenager who is still in his awkward teenage phase. With Ted's help, John hilariously navigates adolescence, dealing with everything from first dates to high school bullies. Premiering on January 11, 2024, Ted launched as Peacock's most-watched original title ever through its first three days on the platform. Burkholder is perhaps best known for his portrayal of “Max Braverman” in NBC's long running award-winning series PARENTHOOD, from producers Jason Katims, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. Here Max raised awareness while portraying a young boy with Asperger's syndrome. After the second episode aired, Asperger's was one of the most frequently searched terms on Google. He also played the lead role in Paramount TV's WHEN THE STREET LIGHTS GO ON for DGA, Oscar, IDA, and Emmy-nominated director Brett Morgen. His notable recurring roles include HBO's IN TREATMENT and BROTHERS AND SISTERS. In film, Burkholder starred in Debra Eisenstadt's hit Sundance comedy BLUSH opposite Wendy McLendon-Covey; and in the title role of BENJAMIN, alongside comedy veterans Rob Corddry, Kevin Pollak and Dave Foley. Burkholder began his career at a very young age in films including DADDY DAY CARE directed by Steve Carr, FRIENDS WITH MONEY directed by Nicole Holofcener, and a starring role in the Michael Bay-produced hit feature THE PURGE opposite Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey. In the world of voiceover, Burkholder has voiced characters on a number of hit series including Amazon Prime's INVINCIBLE, FAMILY GUY, THE CLEVELAND SHOW, AMERICAN DAD and THE LAND BEFORE TIME. This week we are thrilled to have Cey Adams on the program.Cey Adams is a New York City native and visionary artist, who emerged from the downtown graffiti movement in the 80's alongside fellow artists and friends Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. Adams began his art career while still in his teens, tagging “Cey City” on subway cars and painting graffiti murals to showcase his artwork. He appeared in the historic PBS documentary Style Wars about subway graffiti in New York. In 1983, Cey Adams met The Beastie Boys. They developed a fast friendship with the band and designed their first logo, t-shirts and singles. The Beastie Boys and Adams would go on to be longtime collaborators including designing the album: “Hello Nasty”. Around the same time he met manager/music producer Russell Simmons where Adams designed logos and merch for his artists. A few years later Simmons along with music producer Rick Rubin founded Def Jam Recordings where Adams served as the founding Creative Director. In the late 80s Adams and his partner Steve Carr co-founded the Drawing Board, Def Jam's in-house visual design firm overseeing the visual style of Def Jam's artists. The firm was responsible for some of the most iconic album covers, logos and advertising campaigns for Run-DMC, Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, Slick Rick, Public Enemy, The Notorious B.I.G., DMX, Jay-Z, Usher, Mary J. Blige, and many more.Adams has also collaborated with global brands including Levi's, Mattel, The Recording Academy, Apple, Bacardi, IDEO, Foot Locker, Converse, YouTube, Google, and many more. These days he has returned back to his fine art roots. He exhibits, lectures, and teaches art workshops at leading institutions including: The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, MoMA , Brooklyn Museum, Museum of the City of New York, School of Visual Arts, and museums around the world. He currently has a solo exhibition, Combinations, opened on October 21st in Austin at the West Chelsea Contemporary. The show is on view until November 19th so you have like a week left to go see it. Cey also has a traveling retrospective exhibition called Departure: 40 Years of Art and Design. The show debuted last year at Boston University Stone Gallery and is currently on view at the College of Visual Arts & Design at University of North Texas Denton. It will travel to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami next year.

The Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza goes shopping this week as the gang welcomes back friend of the show, Ben Worcester to chat about the not-great comedy, Paul Blart: Mall Cop! Why is 90% of this film's comedy just poking fun at Kevin's weight? Is Paul Blart a perfect Todd Solondz character? And is there anything more dated in this film than all the Segway comedy? Maybe the playing of Rock Band? PLUS: Much praise for the underrated teen comedy, Angus! Paul Blart: Mall Cop stars Kevin James, Keir O'Donnell, Jayma Mays, Raini Rodriguez, Shirley Knight, Steve Rannazzisi, Peter Garety, Bobby Cannavale, and Adam Ferrara as Sergeant Howard; directed by Steve Carr. 2000's NEXT FRIDAY is a sequel to the popular 1995 film FRIDAY - it was written by and stars rapper turned actor Ice Cube, directed by Steve Carr and is inferior to the first FRIDAY by every possible quality metric one can imagine. Still, this one has skateboarding in it so Kevin and Mike endeavor to discuss it. In between lamenting that this film is not as good as its predecessor our hosts tackle the connection between skateboarding and hip-hop, N.W.A. and the STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON movie, East Coast skateboarding vs. West Coast skateboarding, and why comedy sequels so often disappoint. The episode winds up being about 30 minutes long, perfect to listen to while you wait for the bathroom to air out.

Kelly and Steve Carr are husband and wife and Co-Founders of Echo Church in Walnut Hills, Cincinnati, Ohio. Steve formerly led the church, but in recent years, Kelly has stepped into the Lead Pastor role. Echo Church was founded in 2005 and is a body of believers united by common relationship with Jesus. They believe when we listen to what God is saying, we begin to see the world in a different light, and invite others to journey with them as they ask questions, seek Jesus, and work out their faith. In this episode, Kelly and Steve share how they named their church, what Steve wanted to call it before Kelly stepped in with a different suggestion, and why they landed on Echo. Hear about why O'Charley's and the produce department at Kroger were pivotal points in their lives and how Steve taking a sabbatical made room for Kelly to step into a lead pastor role. Steve Carr: Economic Hurricane | Food Industry Under Attack 06/17/22 by John Rush
In our first episode of The Land Department Podcast, Dudley Land's executive leadership introduce cocktails to their roundtable discussion. With the increases in activity across energy industries, more business comes with its own set of challenges. Listen in as Brent Broussard, Steve Carr, and Brandon Ward discuss the state of land and energy as we see it.Show Notes00:00 - Intro - College Football Kickoff03:08 - Recent Oil & Gas Activity07:17 - Workforce Challenges with Increased Activity17:46 - Dudley Hiring in Renewables20:15 - Inflation Reduction Act26:59 - Growing Land Work in Renewables30:05 - Upcoming Pipeline Projects34:20 - Predictions for the Rest of 202243:22 - NFL KickoffSnippets About The State Of Land“It's gonna be very competitive for good landmen. We have weekly meetings with our staff about ‘don't you dare let anybody go without a day of work.' There's plenty of opportunity. You can't afford to have someone be in between jobs because they're gonna get sniped.” - Brent Broussard“Good people are really hard to find right now. They're not hard to keep, but they're very hard to find.”“That's gonna be the thing of our careers. We all talk about as service providers, ‘what industries did we work in?' We're an oil and gas service provider, but the renewable space needs landmen. They need people with expertise and experience.” - Brent Broussard“When you talk about the carbon space, you're not just talking about a seven hundred acre solar farm. You're talking about tens of thousands of acres, hundreds of landowners, pipelines, etc. It's all land related activity, which is really exciting for us.” - Steve Carr“As soon as the [Inflation Reduction Act] was passed, it was no less than 10 phone calls on new projects from wind companies, solar companies, and carbon capture companies wanting to get to work.” - Brandon Ward“A lot of renewables groups don't know that companies like us exist.” - Steve Carr“The encouraging thing is we're not seeing this berserk, bonkers growth. We're not seeing private equity throw billions of dollars at the oil and gas space. Good steady growth, disciplined activity by our clients. That's all encouraging.” - Brent Broussard“There's nothing cleaner than natural gas, nothing. I feel like our political leaders and leaders around the world are starting to come to that conclusion.” - Brandon WardResourcesNeed Help With A Project? HR2 Steve Carr: Economic Hurricane | FIFA | Scott Garliss: Powell's Hope for Unemployment 6/16/22 by John Rush
Pace Ringo Starr, confirmation of the site of the Okeechobee Battlefield did not come easy. By 1985, local memory was hazy, having been handed down for several generations from 1837. In addition, hand-drawn maps from various sources contemporary to the battle did not necessarily match each other or the actual geographic features they represented, in whole or in part. Consultants hired by land developers literally dug up dry holes through a subsurface that should have yielded artifacts from the clash. Oh, and the developers didn't want any pesky outside archaeologists nosing around the property to prove them wrong and hold up, well, land development. Enter Bob Carr and Bill Steele on one end. We've podcasted with Bill Steele, who shared his recollections. On the other end was Steve Carr, no relation to Bob. The Lake Worth, Florida-native knew something was amiss. The self-described History Hunter put on his thinking cap to assess the anomaly of the land yielding no artifacts on a site that had to be the battlefield. Steve learned that the overall battlefield, while swampy in 1837, was many decades later covered with up to five-feet of dirt to fill in the swamp and let cattle graze. It is no wonder a shovel test showed no presence, the consultants were not digging deep enough because they did not know to suspect anything so far underneath. When the development began, excavation began and bulldozers soon carved out land fill that reached the level of battle artifacts. Dumped in a pile on public land – and out of legal recourse from the developer – Steve dug into the accumulating landfill hills to release the mountain of artifacts confirming through physical presence that this was indeed the battlefield. The precise context was lost but Steve salvaged the artifacts and since he witnessed the dirt transported from the battlefield, he knew he could associate anything he found with that site. A sample of artifacts on display at the annual reenactment of the battle of Okeechobee. In this episode, Steve Carr joins us to tell how he used those artifacts to recover an important site and battle from the national memory hole. Steve was an excellent candidate to do this. He studied archeology with world famous D Porter Dawson at the University of Georgia in 1978. In a stint with the U.S. Army, Steve served with both the 5th Special Forces and 24th Infantry Divisions, making three deployments to Central America. Palm Beach County was fortunate to enjoy his services as a paramedic for 27 years. In a sense, this was most apropo. Steve patched up people as a paramedic and he patched up our understanding of the Okeechobee Battlefield with his salvage archaeology efforts. Now, despite his primary avocation, Steve continued to pursue his archaeological interests on the side, as demonstrated with his mid-1980s work at Okeechobee. In 1993, he started salvage archeology projects with Preserving Our Heritage director Mike Crane. He has conducted numerous mound, ceramic, and civil war site recovery projects. And for our specific interest, he has surveyed or examined 24 Seminole Wars battle sites, including Okeechobee and also the Locha Hatchie surveys. He shared what he discovered during his 17 years teaching pioneer history at Barry University. Host Patrick Swan is a board member with the Seminole Wars Foundation. He is a combat veteran and of the U.S. Army, serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Kosovo, and at the Pentagon after 9/11. A military historian, he holds masters degrees in Public History, Communication, and Homeland Security, and is a graduate of the US Army War College with an advanced degree in strategic studies.
