Three actors, one enigmatic play, and surprising insights into collaboration, craft, and curiosity What can three actors teach you about memory, silence, and creativity? In this episode of Your Creative Mind, I sit down with Jaqui Shiel, Mark Cosby, and Lori Kee, three accomplished performers who brought Harold Pinter's Old Times to life in a Zoom performance in Karen Kohlhaas' directing class that I took. You'll hear how they build layered characters, balance artistic work with everyday demands, and use pauses and presence to create powerful moments on stage and in life. Their stories offer practical strategies you can apply to your own communication, whether you're leading a team, teaching a class, or crafting your next project. If you want fresh insight into acting craft, collaboration, and the artistry of silence, this conversation will spark new ideas and confidence in your own creative journey. The actors in this project were: Jaqui Shiel as Kate, Mark Cosby as Deeley, and Lori Kee as Anna. See below for their information. If you're a producer or a casting director, book them for shows. They are tremendous at their art and craft. See the production on YouTube. Jaqui Shiel Jaqui Shiel is an actor, singer and writer. PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI revisits the video age. First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on March 3rd 2024 This week one of my more regular guests on VISION ON SOUND, PAUL CHANDLER, THE SHY YETI himself is back, and we're going to take a nostalgic meander that starts off with a few reflections on what it was like growing up in the video age, or rather, growing up in an era when we consumed our films and, perhaps to a lesser extent, television – at least as far as the video rental shops were concerned – via the medium of videotape. But, of course, because it's PAUL and I, we also meander off into topics like how we consume such media in more recent times, too, the whole world of collecting physical media, PAUL'S own dalliances with television production, and we even give a mention to his pet cat Deeley, and his efforts to sabotage PAUL'S viewing and editing routines… So, why not join us as we head back to an age of chunky buttons, programming, top-loading, and VHS… PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.

Hi all, We debated what to do to mark the 30th anniversary of this great game, but the Wyrm and Weaver conspired against us to do anything as big as we hoped to do. That said, Jim was able to put together this tribute to the game with a short story and recitation of the Prophecy of the Phoenix. Join me in thanking him for providing a special way to mark the day.

Pennsylvania Representative Seth Grove returns to the Dom Giordano Program to discuss the continued effort by Pennsylvania Republicans to hold Philadelphia election officials accountable for multiple mistakes during the 2020 election. Republicans note that election officials in Philadelphia had allegedly counted mail-in ballots that had not been dated by voters. Grove, along with other Republican leaders, sent letters to Lisa Deeley, the city's voting and election board chair, and Omar Sabir, arguing that state law requires dates. Grove provides an update on whether they've heard a response from the city, Sabir, or Deeley, and explains what this means for elections moving forward. A tripleheader today, leading off the show regular Garry “G” Cobb (gcobb.com). Cobb gives his take on the huge Phillies signing of Bryce Harper, as well as the Eagles’ decision to let Super Bowl hero Nick Foles become a free agent and the surprise announcement of Cowboys future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten to leave the Monday Night Football broadcast booth to return to the Dallas Cowboys. Cobb also shares his thoughts and gives insight regarding matters of race as Black History Month concludes. Richard Pryor Jr jumps in to talk about his new book “In A Pryor Life” which releases tomorrow (Friday 3/1), and Lisa Deeley—Chairwoman of the bipartisan Philadelphia City Commissioners office—explains the process by which the new voting machines in Philadelphia were researched & purchased, the replacing of the existing paper poll books with electronic ones, and how the voter experience will improve in future elections. Also to be noted, Governor Wolf’s instruction for the updated machines is true for all 67 counties in Pennsylvania, so while today’s conversation’s focus was primarily on Philadelphia, voters should be aware similar changes (albeit possibly with a different type of machine) will be rolling out by the end of 2019.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
January 10, 2018 I've been looking forward to this interview for a long-time, one of the most inspiring teachers I ever had, drumset player and percussionist extraordinaire Mr. Ray Deeley! I was very fortunate to take private drumset and percussion lessons with Ray while a high school student ('85-'89). Ray taught at numerous Catholic high schools through-out the Philadelphia area, and coincidentally one of his students at another school was Heather High, who I would later meet in the percussion ensemble at West Chester University, which eventually led to our marriage, four great children and a wonderful life. After attending Mastbaum Vocational High School in Philadelphia with classmates the likes of Lee Morgan, Ray Deeley received a full scholarship to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music, studying with Fred Hinger and graduating in 1955. After graduation he worked as a first-call drumset player and percussionist touring the world with A-List musicians and entertainers, including Vic Damon, Bobby Rydell, Chubby Checker, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Liberace, Milton Berle, Don Rickles and Julie Andrews, just to name a few. He also traveled with the Dick Clark American Bandstand tours to Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hong Kong, performed on The Ed Sullivan Show, worked as a studio musician at Cameo-Parkway Records, and later taught drums and percussion for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Bucks County Community College and Immaculata University. Today Ray exercises daily, continues studying and practicing drums and percussion and performs for various musical artists throughout Philadelphia and South Jersey.
Kirsty Young's castaway this week is the Oscar-winning film producer Michael Deeley. Over the past 40 years he's been involved in some of the most highly acclaimed movies we've seen, including Don't Look Now, The Deer Hunter and The Italian Job. Yet his job is one that's barely understood. Neither the artistic visionary nor the star player the producer, he says, is the person who is the ramrod-figure who causes a film to be made - buying the rights to stories, hiring actors, finding locations and overseeing the production. He fell into it - he'd always thought he'd be a diplomat or a lawyer - but a casual job ended up being a career of many decades standing. He says rather modestly, "I just found I had the knack".[Taken from the original programme material for this archive edition of Desert Island Discs]Favourite track: I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) by Meat Loaf Book: Decent translation of the Koran Luxury: Two hundred cases of vintage wine.
