In this episode of "Shark Theory," host Baylor Barbee explores the transformative power of taking action, particularly in facing life's adversities and uncertainties. Using an anecdote about the stark temperature changes in Dallas, Texas, Baylor illustrates how action can alter our perception and experience of external circumstances. The episode delves into understanding how our responses to life's metaphorical "storms" shape our ability to thrive despite the challenges we face. Baylor emphasizes the importance of proactive behavior amidst life's unpredictable elements. He discusses how action, rather than external factors, such as industry trends or societal pressures, defines our success and mental state. Highlighting the concept of becoming an "action-taker," Baylor urges listeners to adopt a perspective where adversity is met with strategic movement instead of complacency. The discussion sheds light on finding calm in chaos by learning from those who excel despite facing similar challenges and encourages listeners to embrace the seasonal nature of life's ups and downs. Key Takeaways: Action Changes Perception: Taking action can transform how you perceive and experience adversities or uncomfortable situations. Proactivity Overcomes Fear: Idleness can amplify fears, whereas proactive behavior can lead to breakthrough and confidence. Learning from Leaders: Observing and aligning with those who seem calm in chaos can provide new strategies for personal growth. Seasonal Mindset: Recognize that life's challenges are temporary; the seasons of life change, and each offers unique opportunities for development. Finding Opportunity in Adversity: In every crisis or storm, look for opportunities to grow and succeed by shifting focus from the problem to the solution.

Dr. Jay emphasizes that this is not a political issue, but a human one, focusing on the alarming statistics surrounding chronic disease, declining life expectancy, and the exorbitant cost of sick care in the US. Lifestyle choices significantly impact health: Diet, exercise, sleep, and stress management are crucial for well-being and can help reverse the trends of chronic disease. Environmental factors play a major role: Toxins in food, products, and the environment, along with EMFs, disrupt hormones and contribute to health problems. Small changes can lead to big results: Focusing on fundamental health principles, like whole foods, protein, and resistance training, can create a foundation for optimal health. In this heartening episode of the Science of Abundance Daily Alchemy Podcast, our introspective host, Sean Clayton, recounts his powerful journey from trauma and adversity to spiritual awakening and resilience. Drawing from his challenging experiences—including incarceration, suicide attempts, and being a survivor of sexual abuse—Sean shares how he has leveraged hermetic principles and alchemy to bring transformative change into his life. Delving deep, Sean reminisces about a past video of his that provided catharsis for a dear friend, helping him face and free himself from the shadows of shared trauma. This impactful story emphasizes Sean's core belief: healing oneself ripples outward, enabling others to find healing, too. It's an exploration of our interconnectedness, the boundless nature of love, and the responsibility each of us has to our own well-being. Leveraging insights from thinkers like Greg Braden, Sean probes the nature of existence, human potential, and the continual journey of the soul. Addressing concepts like ego, love's vibrational spectrum, and the hermetic laws—especially the Law of Vibration and the Law of Correspondence—Sean offers listeners a guide to maintaining a high vibrational state and using ego as a tool of love. Key Takeaways: Our healing journey can catalyze healing in others. It's essential to differentiate between high and low vibrational love. Leveraging ego for love, not fear, can lead to greater self-awareness and growth. Staying mindful of our continuous journey ensures we don't become complacent or ego-driven. Embrace and act upon the love within and around us, and remember the interconnectedness of all things. Call to Action: Find someone you cherish and wholeheartedly express your appreciation for their presence in your life. Continuously tune yourself to love's higher vibrational frequency and remember the infinite impact of your actions.

A Bucket List. The best kind of list. A list full of adventure, joy, fear, racing hearts, dirty boots, and breathtaking views. A list that often gets lost or forgotten among the many other seemingly more important or practical lists of our every day routines and schedules. But, it's THIS list, the one that unintentionally collects the most dust, that really shapes a life and perhaps even more clearly defines its true purpose, calling, and intended nature. How do we focus more on our Bucket List and less on the grocery list, honey-do list, back to school list, and the 100s of others that plaque our minds and schedules every day? Money, it seems, is always an issue and there are never enough hours in a day to get everything done. Is it wiser then to stay the course of practicality and hustle for every dollar to have the best of the best, complete those house renovations and save up for that new car? Or, could your wealth and success be found not in the material things you buy, but in the experiences you have, the memories you create, the fears you face with your heart in your throat, and the quality time devoted to spending with loved ones? This week's Call to Action: Find that Bucket List you stuffed somewhere in the back of that junk drawer, dust that baby off, update it, and pin it to the front of your calendar. Your next to-do is to make that Bucket List a reality.

So many times we hear “Choose Joy” but if sometimes we don't even know where to start. It's too simple. But what if we were to choose action that helps us find JOY? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Jon is 41, he comes from a loving and faithful family in Marietta, GA and is the youngest of four. His mother was “the glue” of the family and his father was a carpenter and Jon and his brother spent summers at job sites with their father. One sister recently passed. Jon's oldest brother had a big problem while there was a financial downturn. His parents gave up everything they had to help him. Jon was about 15. He went to work after the ninth grade, first with his father and then with his older brother, shoveling asphalt. That gave Jon a little bit of money and a nice car. Besides working for his brother, Jon started dealing drugs to coworkers for extra money. Jon talks about the temptations of this world. Now, he puts faith in our Lord Jesus Christ to help him make the right decisions.Jon started selling marijuana but moved on to other drugs. Jon was still productive at work and living at home. There wasn't enough money in the house. Jon didn't want his mother or father ever to worry. When methamphetamines hit Atlanta, Jon started making money selling methamphetamines. Jon details his addictions, arrests, incarcerations — once for two years — and relationships, including a brief marriage to a fellow addict. One of the reasons Jon is clean and sober today is the memory of his mother. When Jon's mother visited him in prison on Christmas, her tears broke his heart. He feels that God wanted him to see that, so he would determine to change his life. Jim affirms that Jon recognizes his choice to become addicted. Jon still didn't want to hear about God. He went back to using drugs from the street. Pharmaceuticals were starting to move onto the street. Jon talks about losing his father, in 2010, which helped him grow up. He went to a doctor and got Suboxone and Xanax to break his addictions. He stayed on them for years. Jon went to work doing erosion management for a landscaping company. He made himself a valuable employee to keep the job. Jon prayed with his mother every night. For the last two years of her life, Jon took care of her financially and physically. Jon got hurt badly on the job and faced surgery with a year of recovery time and his mother was going in and out of the hospital. He didn't want to have the surgery. He stopped the Suboxone and went to Pain Management. But he switched back to Suboxone. He stopped working for two years. For two years he paid the mortgage on his workers' compensation pay. He also paid for home health workers for his mother until she passed. Every night after praying with his mother, Jon went to his room and prayed for her. She was very ill. When his mother passed, Jon became very angry with God for taking her and for his other losses. He started back on methamphetamines, and lost everything at age 39, going back to jail. He was not eating right. He had arthritis and gout. He needed a wheelchair. Getting out, after eight months in County jail, Jon was determined never to use drugs again. He made promises to God. He fell short but he was trying to seek God. He was broken and humble. Gout and his other injuries provided a turning point. Still, he relapsed and was incarcerated twice again. Jon thanks God for the important people in his life who have helped him. Jon talks of losing a good friend. Jon spent time with him at the hospital, praying in the chapel for his friend, reading the Psalms, and trying to bargain with God, all while doing methamphetamines. When his friend died, Jon almost went back to dealing. But he didn't. He made the choice not to reject God. God had given him so much. After Jon's last incarceration, he knew there were three ways out of his addiction: death, prison, or treatment. He chose treatment. He is very thankful for the help he received and every day Jon is in the scriptures. Jon finally surrendered to God's way. Jon says he has to choose the right path by faith. There is no power greater than our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jon is ready to die for what he believes in. He has come a long way from wanting nothing to do with God. Jon is sustained by feasting on God's word in the scriptures. Jon talks about the facility where he went for help. Jon talks about being around faith. There is no power greater than God. Jon does not follow a “steps” program. Such programs have failed him. Jim invites listeners to email him through Menbuildmen.com if you want to donate to the facility or encourage Jon. Any listener who needs help with addiction, contact Jim. Put your total dependence upon God. Jon praises God every day. Jon says, if you're sick, open your heart to God. He will guide you and help you. It's not cool to be a dealer or an addict. Hard work and clean living are cool. Jon hopes he can touch one person with his message. Jim affirms Jon for acknowledging that God is his sustenance. That is the mark of a man. Garrett is a below-knee amputee on his left side with extreme damage to his right leg. If he breaks his right leg again, he may never walk again. Garrett is 20 years old and is training for the 2022 Paralympics in Beijing, China. In high school, Garrett began rebelling and challenging his father. Garrett thought he could deal with anything on his own. Garrett played football and wrestled. He loved individual sports more than team sports; he hated being in a position where he could fail his team.Jim Nicklas and Garrett's father both feared Garrett was going wayward. His father warned him many times that God would get his attention if he didn't “tighten up.” Jim and Garrett discuss the high-speed vehicle wreck of June 2, 2016, that changed Garrett's life forever and for the better. Garrett has Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me,” engraved on his prosthetic. It was also on his wrestling shirt. Before the wreck, he wasn't as sure of it but the way he survived the wreck convinced him of its truth. In the hospital, despite smiling for his family, Garrett was depressed about his injuries. He almost acted on suicidal thoughts and he spent time in a mental hospital. He was angry at God. He is very grateful now to have recovered from those feelings. In his Senior year, Garrett tried to play football but his right leg was too badly injured, so he moved on to wrestling again, getting to the second round in State wrestling for the first time. The real change came for Garrett with snowboarding. Garrett had gone snowboarding as a child. His first experience using a prosthesis on a snowboard was terrifying and difficult but when he stepped on the snow he felt free again. His dad helped him up when he fell. Garrett didn't imagine then that he would compete. His doctor put him in touch with Amy Purdy, a Paralympic snowboarder, and co-founder of Adaptive Action Sports, a 501(c) charity. Garrett was invited to Copper Mountain, CO. He hoped to learn from others there who had lost limbs and gone on to snowboard. One of the coaches told him they wanted to be in contact with him. Before Garrett graduated, he got an invitation from Adaptive Action to go back to Copper Mountain to compete for their Sports club. Garrett flew out by himself and stayed at the home of a man who later became his coach. After Garrett's first trip down the hill, the coach told him they needed to fix just about everything he was doing! By the end of the day, the coach said he had progressed “an insane amount.” The coach told him they would be in touch soon. After graduation, they invited Garrett back. His family saw that having an apartment, a job, and training every day helped Garrett mature and come out of his depression. Garrett realized God had opened many doors for him to get into snowboarding. Garrett sees he has a big stage on which to bear witness to God and His goodness. After a year on the club team, Garrett was invited to join the U.S. Development Team because of his points earned and the progress he had made. Garrett was one of the youngest athletes to qualify for the Team. He loved the Paralympic Center and the athletes. Jim observed a change in Garrett when he made the U.S. Team.On the Development Team, Garrett competed in Finland, Norway, The Netherlands, and at an able-bodied event in Canada. Garrett was the first para-athlete to qualify for a bracket in an able-bodied heat. After that, Garrett moved up to the A-Team. The team is on hold due to COVID-19. Garrett is on the A-Team for the 2022 Beijing Paralympics. Garrett is currently third out of the five athletes on the A-Team and will compete against them and other athletes in the development program to be one of the three to go to Beijing. Now Garrett is in Georgia, working out and wakeboarding. Last summer, Garrett competed in able-bodied wakeboarding. Garrett and his father drew closer to God through scripture reading and the Church and from seeing how Garrett has grown since his injuries. Garrett is more humble. Jim encourages Garrett to be an ambassador of Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:20 “We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (NIV) The weightiness of representing Christ well changes us.To continue moving forward in a sense of humility and implementing counsel is a mark of a man.Garrett absolutely would not change anything. His life is a lot better. His faith is stronger. Things happen for a reason. Focus on what you can do with what has happened. Peter's story begins with his first experience in electric stick welding in ninth-grade shop class, then helping out at his family's metal fabrication business, marrying his high school sweetheart, and moving with his wife to Texas to work his way through school while studying welding engineering at LeTourneau University. LeTourneau is one of two universities in America to offer a degree in welding engineering. Peter describes his work history and the amazing experiences he had following his degree in welding engineering. He talks about working for welding equipment manufacturers, his family's business, and offshore oil platforms, Peter assures young listeners that you don't need to go to college to have a good career in welding.A welder is qualified, not certified. A welder in a refinery might have over 100 to 200 qualifications regarding specifications, materials, process, material thickness, welding position, and many more. Peter describes submerged arc welding that doesn't require using a helmet. You set everything up, make your weld, remove your flux, knock off your slag, and hope you have a good-looking weld. It's the workhorse of the welding industry. It is limited to flat and horizontal positions. Peter talks about trends in high-tech welding with robotics and parts automation. New, stronger alloys are being developed.Jim notes that heat and pressure in a marriage strengthen the marriage bond.Jim encourages young listeners that welding is a good, stable trade. You can make a lot of money doing it. You don't have to go to college to do it. At the end of the day, you'll be sweaty and dirty but you'll have something you created you can be proud of. Almost everything you weld, you sign or stamp your name. This creates traceability but also pride and accountability. One of the marks of a man is being accountable for your actions. You're accountable for your life. Peter's advice to young people: If you think you might like it, get your hands on it and try it. Once you try it, you're going to like it.Jim invites you to allow heat and pressure to continue to work in your favor, both in life and your marriage. Stay under the hood, get dirty, and get the weld done. Jim's nephew Simon, is 17. He trapped for three consecutive years with Grandpa Jim. Simon had bought a set of used traps and he invited his Grandpa Jim to go field trapping with him. Grandpa Jim was a life-long hunter, but he only had trapped with water sets as a ten-year-old. Field trapping requires different traps and different methods than water trapping. Simon set traps for coyotes, foxes, bobcats, raccoons, minks, and muskrats. However, in the first year, they trapped skunks, owls, cats, and other animals they didn't want. Simon has skunk stories to tell! The first raccoon they caught was a forty-pound male on a dairy farm. Simon describes skinning the raccoon for its fur. They kept the fur, as it was Simon's first. Simon's first ‘money catch' was a forty-pound coyote. Simon took it to a fur dealer, and it was the only one brought in that was caught in a leg-hold trap, instead of being shot with a rifle. Simon and Grandpa Jim tell about checking traps day and night, rain or shine, snow or ice, and how they humbly sought help from a successful trapper as they progressed from being inexperienced and unsuccessful to being skilled and sometimes successful. As Simon learned, perseverance and patience are essential. You can do everything perfectly but you may have to come back to the trap for three days before seeing results. Field trapping involves enticing a specific species of animal to step on a two-inch circle of steel in the middle of a wilderness. Grandpa Jim especially loved watching the sunrise with his grandson, Simon, as they checked the traps each day before school. Jim concludes that trapping was an ideal way to teach humility, perseverance, and patience — definite marks of a man that will help Simon throughout his adult life. If you haven’t heard of Sydney Banks it is definitely worth your while exploring his work more. With Sam we get to discuss some of the ideas behind Syd’s work. Why so many ‘techniques’ both from a swing perspective and a mental game perspective are doomed to fail. When you attempt to control your thinking with ever more thinking. You get lost in the search for THE way to do things. When perhaps a better approach is to understand at a deeper level the way your mind works. That thoughts will always come along. You cannot control them. You cannot stop yourself from thinking. It is very tough to change the nature of your thinking. What you can do however is have a different RELATIONSHIP to your thinking. When you have a different relationship to the way your mind works you potentially open up a wonderful new area of possibility. Sam explains his own experience with the Three Principles It is a very interesting session today which will certainly get you to ponder a potential new direction and a set of insights you may not have considered before. Trey Andrews talks about his upbringing, an intervention by a respected high school teacher that changed his attitude, his Church youth group experience, and what led him into the Marine Corps and to the Mortuary Affairs Unit. Trey shares how they taught him to treat the fallen with the honor and dignity they deserve. He relates some of the brutal situations he encountered and with raw transparency, Trey discusses some of the conditions he observed and the harmful mental and emotional burdens he carries from those experiences.Jim and Trey discuss the need to ask for help when you are carrying more than you can bear. Jim affirms Trey for having the mark of a mature man in recognizing when he needed help and in reaching out for it. Trey had his faith harshly tested when dealing with death, and he praises God for seeing him through the challenges and getting him past some dark days and nights. There is strength in acknowledging you need help. Trey is in the process of getting help. He hopes he influences others to reach out when they need help. Jim concludes with an appeal to listeners to put weightiness into the eternal life that is in Jesus Christ. Vulnerability Does Not Bite Introduction Definition of vulnerability: The quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally. With this definition who would want to be vulnerable? Why are we doing this thing if this what the definition is? Vulnerability may seem scary and if not done intentionally it can be! Vulnerability done intentionally can be so rewarding. Vulnerability in spirituality is an expression of faith. Vulnerability in relationships is an expression of love. Vulnerability in your career is an expression of passion and purpose. However, vulnerability and shame can be synonymous for guys. If we fight or fear vulnerability it leads to shame. Letting go of control allows true control of now. When we don’t engage in our own personal vulnerability we are suffering from depth deprivation. A shallow relationship with yourself and your close relationships leads to a lack of fulfillment and even mental illness. Circle of Relationships- Authentic with everyone, vulnerable with a few. What we have learned about vulnerability? 1. Vulnerability can only be present in the present Vulnerability can only be present in the present. (Emotional agility, experience the experience) Vulnerability is often talked about in the past. Stories of vulnerability that we recall are good as a frame of reference but their major purpose be to remind me of how important it is to be vulnerable today. When I was a kid I was raised in a church environment that was big on testimonies. People known as evangelists (spreaders of good news) made their living going around telling about the the times in their lives when they became powerless ended up in dire circumstances, realized that they needed to surrender to something or someone different and it changed their lives. They went on to live in those past stories of vulnerability. Most of the past incidents were because of forced vulnerability. In this we become powerless or out of control. This is reactive vulnerability, often in our Sexuality with men. Today I have the opportunity to be vulnerable as a choice or by being proactive. Again I can only be so in my deepest and most connected relationships. I make the choice to be open, transparent and without secrets to someone or a select few people in my life. 2. What we are learning about vulnerability: Transparency is key - When men allow themselves the freedom of openness they find that this neither comfortable nor excruciating. Men are finding that the more they talk about shame the less they have of it. Men realize that things that made them vulnerable in the past now make them strong to face the future. It has been incredible to see how such transparency terminates shame. Illustration: If I am keeping a password on my phone so my wife cannot have access to it I am not practicing vulnerability. If you get too close to the Fire to Quick you will burn to death. If you get too far away from the fire you will freeze to death. 3. What we are learning about vulnerability: Courage is evident - Men in Authentic Men’s Groups have the courage to acknowledge imperfection and to talk about it. They are willing to let go of who they thought they should be in order to be who they are. Such men have the willingness to give themselves to something or someone without guarantee. They have the ability to invest in relationships even if they may not work out. We practice vulnerability to be authentic to who we are not to get a response from others. We are not responsible for their response only how we present ourselves. 4. What we are learning about vulnerability: Connectedness is wanted. Men are realizing that the core to connection is openness. This openness, when practiced in a safe group of fellow strugglers, allows movement to real relationships having realistic expectations and expression of our true self. This is happening through the connectedness that comes from being vulnerable with a few. Men are finding that accountability is the byproduct of authenticity and vulnerability. Authenticability trumps accountability every time. It’s proactive not reactive. One of the concepts of AMG is that we be authentic with everyone and vulnerable with a few. At whatever depth the relationship is that is as much as I can be vulnerable. 5. What we are learning about vulnerability: Compassion is experienced. When we find the compassion to be kind to themselves first they then can be kind to others. Men are considering themselves to be good. Men are learning to practice empathy and consideration knowing the help that comes when they have received it. Can’t give away what we don’t have. Authentic Call to Action: Find a place or a friend where I can be vulnerable on a regular basis. Practice vulnerability with trusted relationships. Conclusion When a safe and trusted environment is established men find that 1. Present, Transparent, Courageous, Connected and Compassionate serve them well and consequently serves their deepest and most connected associations along with all of the other of their Circle of Relationships. All of the research and development is paying off as we see men experiencing freedom, connectedness and intimacy in their lives.

Despite massive growth in New Jersey’s Medical Marijuana program since NJ Governor Phil Murphy replaced arch- prohibitionist and staunch opponent of cannabis, Republican Governor Chris Christie, New Jersey’s program has swelled to 60,000 patients. But these patients are still being underserved by the state’s meager 6 dispensaries. More reinforcements are on the way to alleviate shortages, high prices, and lower wait times! This is a “Wednesday Wisdom” episode of “This is Gonna Hurt”. In our Wednesday Wisdom episodes, we post sermons from Gordon’s preaching at Evident Grace Fellowship (www.evidentgrace.com) in Fredericksburg, VA. In this episode, Gordon pursues the Big Picture Question: What’s the Point from Romans 3.1-8. If you want to know more about Evident Grace Fellowship, you can find them at www.evidentgrace.com. If you want to find out more about what Gordon is up to, check out his website at www.jgordonduncan.com. Thanks for listening. Big Picture Question: What’s the point? God is Faithful God is Truthful We Can be Deceived Background: 2:28 A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. 29 No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God. God is Faithful Romans 3:1 Then what advantage has the Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God. 3 What if some were unfaithful? Does their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God? 4 By no means! God is Truthful 4:b Let God be true though every one were a liar, as it is written, “That you may be justified in your words, and prevail when you are judged.” We Can be Deceived 5 But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.) 6 By no means! For then how could God judge the world? 7 But if through my lie God's truth abounds to his glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner? 8 And why not do evil that good may come?—as some people slanderously charge us with saying. Their condemnation is just Big Picture Question: What’s the point? Truth: We continue trying to understand and trying to obey God because His faithfulness and His truthfulness protect us from being deceived. Application: Live knowing that God intimately works in your questions, your doubts, and your obedience. Action: Find a believer who has some maturity about them. Share with them your struggles with study, belief, and/or worship. Ask them for encouragement or advice. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thisisgonnahurt/support
Big Idea- Honoring God Means Considering Others Better Than Your Self----Truth- Considering others as better than yourself is a true testimony to your faith in Jesus.----Application- Live knowing that your humility in front of others is a proportionate demonstration of your faith in Jesus.----Action- Find the person you are most critical of this week.
