Maia Mitchell's story is a fascinating one. She grew up in Lismore in rural New South Wales, and in her early 20s found herself in Los Angeles, working with Disney on the (iconic) Teen Beach series, which turned her into a mega Disney star overnight. Then she nabbed the lead in the Jennifer Lopez-produced The Fosters, which became a major hit, running for six seasons and averaging 1.5 million viewers per episode. With 10 million Instagram followers and the worlds of fashion and film at her feet, one would think Maia was firmly settled in the Los Angeles lifestyle. But when Lismore flooded in 2022 she decided to return to her hometown permanently. We talk about the move back to Australia, about the dangers of being a child actor and the harrowing HBO documentary Quiet on Set. We talk about her work with David Thewliss on The Artful Dodger, her journey to accepting her body, and much more. "It's not Halloweentown 2..." We had hoped to bring you a Teen Beach 2, Electric Boogaloo this week, but sadly that is one of the nicest things the girlies had to say about this dcom. Pros of the movie include almost everything about Ross Lynch, and cons include almost everything else. Digressions include Julie and the Phantoms, "Fergalicious", and heinous baby names. Halloween is over and Kyra & Sarah dive back into the Teen Beach franchise with the second installment! Just how well does the sequel hold up to the original? Is it camp enough for Kyra? And why is it just called Teen BEACH 2?!

She’s so busy, but actress and singer Chrissie Fit is taking time to tell us why she is a “Cubana con Biden” who cares about the 2020 Presidential Election. This is our third (I think) in our special series Election 2020 Liberal Sherpa podcast episodes about VIPs and their election picks. And, for this episode, we’re able to combine salsa, fun, and passion with Actress and Singer Chrissie Fit — from Pitch Perfect 2 and 3 and Disney's Teen Beach. She tells me why she’s decided to break the “Cubans are always Republican” stereotype and become a “Cubana con Biden.” Yeah, we get political, but, with a talented Bella, we also enjoy music, Miami-isms, and Celia Cruz! ¡Azúcar! Halloween-time is nearly over and oddly Kyra & Sarah are a bit relieved? But just how does Halloweentown 4 compare to its predecessors? We sure do hope it's better than Halloweentown 3... This is a special episode of this one-of-a-kind super duper podcast for so many reasons. It's the first of our Latinx kids' Exclusive Election 2020 episodes. Cristina, CATALINA mag's youngest journalist, interviews Actress and Singer Chrissie Fit. She's from Pitch Perfect 2 and 3 and Disney's Teen Beach. And Chrissie cares about this election! She's a “Cubana for Biden.”She's probably so busy, but she's taking time to tell us why she cares about Election 2020 ... and why we should ... including this 9-year-old Latina.
Hollywood's darlings have returned with yet another hit on their hands. This time, they decide to cash in on the summer energy that has already left this year, and make a summer flick. Being the professionals they are, they do some heavy market research on the most on the nose film in this genre they know, Teen Beach Movie. Now I already hear you asking: "Guys, do you spend most of this episode making a Cars ripoff of this weird DCOM?" and don't you worry, because we also steal heavily from it's sequel, Teen Beach 2. (I know we never actually use this title for the movie in the episode but the options we mention are "Teen Cars Movie" and "Car-kini Babes" so I made an executive decision.)
Our pal Piper joins us to talk all things Teen Beach Movie! We break down the nonsensical plot, discuss characters we love to hate (*cough Mack cough*), and laugh about how much money it would take for us to go bowling with Tanner. (Hint: a lot of money.) Today my guest on the Hometown to Hollywood podcast is actor, singer, dancer, and all-around creative talent, Jordan Fisher. Jordan’s resume is very long for someone who’s still just in his mid-twenties, but he is best known for Moana, Grease Live, RENT Live, Liv and Maddie, To All the Boys: PS I Still Love You, Until Dawn, Teen Beach Movie, Teen Beach 2, and The Secret Life of the American Teenager. Jordan was crowned the Season 25 winner of "Dancing with the Stars" alongside dance partner Lindsay Arnold, and played the role of Evan Hanson in Dear Evan Hanson on Broadway, as well as the roles of John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in the Broadway production of Hamilton. His voiceover credits include Sea Hawk in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. He plays six instruments: piano, guitar, bass, harmonica, French horn and drums. Our conversation is wide-ranging and inspiring, covering how Jordan’s journey began and going into audition advice, staying sane through challenging times, and much more. Some of my favorite quotes from our conversation: “I had no clue that walking into drama club in 5th grade would lead to producing films.” “My ultimate goal is dictation of time.” “My biggest piece of advice for anybody that’s trying to get into the industry is to recognize why. Figure out your why.” “I still train.” “Auditioning is a part of the work. The reward is the actual job itself.” “The work is being in class, the work is watching film and television, the work is having people to read scenes with.” “Documentaries have been one of the most important… I’m going to call it a Rosetta Stone for me.” “We are professional observers. You have to watch other actors do their thing.” “Auditioning is its own art form.” “If you use your platform and it is led with love, and with truth, you’re doing what you’re supposed to do.” “There will be naysayers. At the same time there will be people who believe in you.” “There’s room and space for you here. There’s more and more opportunity for actors every year.” FOLLOW JORDAN HERE: Website: jordanfisherofficial.com Instagram: @jordanfisher Twitter: @jordanfisher FaceBook: @jordanfisherofficial

For Season 2 I am changing it up and basically becoming a traveling journalist...no big deal. Today of all dayzzzz I am in the hizzzouse of my amazing friend, Mason Cutler in Topanga Canyon. You may recognize Mason from the “Higher Love” music video or seen him on tour with Taylor Swift, Demi Lavoto, or Shaping Sound. Maybe you saw him as a principal dancer on the sandy beaches of Teen Beach Movie or when he claimed his jock role of Colt Channing in Teen Beach 2! His fusion of contemporary and hip hop dance styles have given him opportunities to work with with many world renowned choreographers in the industry such a Kenny Ortega, Margueritte Derricks, Chris Scott, Tyce Diorio, Tony Testa to name a few.I would describe Mason’s style as Mason. He is one of a kind. He is a mover, part mer-man and creative extraordinaire. Over the last few years, he has submerged himself into music. Writing and creating his own music. He performs and also teaches master classes set to his own music. I am so proud and inspired by him all the time. This is one my sweetest chit chats yet because Mase is such a good one!
Episode 13 is here and who wants to know more about the calmest soul of them all, George Lawrence II?! I do!! Join me as we discuss George's admiration of Beyonce, our obsession with wearing Aviator Nation AND quoting Bridesmaids, his experience on tour dancing for Lorde and his "for these reasons...I'm out" philosophy. George is a delight on and off the stage. He has emerged as a leading man because of his strong work ethic, dedication to the craft and reliability in the industry. He is a smart, funny and always sweaty leading man in my own heart. He is the star in Andrew Winghart's "Cry Me A River" video, he has competed on So You Think You Can Dance, toured with Lorde, and worked as a commercial dancer for years. We met dancing together in Teen Beach 2 and continue to work together year after year. In this cute little cozy interview, George discusses how he gets it together.
