Who among us hasn't had apocalyptic visions with a head full of mushrooms? Terrence sure did. This week we're looking at one of the pillars of the legendary psychedelic evangelist's cosmology: Timewave Zero. After Terrence McKenna and his brother Dennis had their noggins rocked by psilocybe cubensis mushrooms in Colombia, Terrence returned from the jungle with "some funny ideas," ideas around a self-similar fractal waveform, calculated through doing fancy wizard math on the I-Ching, the ancient Chinese divination system. According to McKenna the resulting waveform could be overlayed on top of human history and showed a steady, relentless march towards a point of infinite novelty, infinite newness, the eschaton. And this eschaton, according to Mckanna, was set to arrive "on time and under budget" on...December 21, 2012. Spoiler alert: it didn't. But that doesn't make the ideas within Timewave Zero any less relevant, worth talking about, or poetically true. And hey, maybe the apocalypse did happen in 2012 and this is all just our hallucinatory death dream. You really never know. Increase the density of novelty in our lives by joining our Patreon. Could our reality since 2012 actually be a shared dream, where the boundaries of time and space are fluid, and our collective consciousness is the architect of the world around us? Imagine a realm where ancient Aboriginal Dreaming intersects with our daily lives, guiding us through a mystical journey. In this world, nature is not just a backdrop but a sacred, living entity, and ancestral spirits shape our paths. Is it possible that we are living in a reality far more interconnected and profound than we ever imagined, a seamless blend of myth and modernity?New! Media Roots Radio on Psychedelics: Episode 3: Terrence McKenna, Ott, DMT, Pharmahuasca, Heroic Dosing, Utopianism & the Entheogen New Age Abby and Robbie dive into the psychonauts that repopularized psychedelics in the 80s and 90s, focusing on the brilliant visionary riddler Terrence McKenna and his wild theories––from Stoned Ape to TimeWave Zero––his promotion of heroic dosing, his mainstreaming of DMT and the notion of DMT 'machine elves.' They explore the complicated nature of McKenna's legacy, including the pitfalls of the utopianism that he and others elevated about heroic dosing. They also cover the lesser known Johnathan Ott, a chemist who coined the term entheogen and pushed for the production of a Pharmahuasca, a pharmaceutical pill version of Ayahuasca. Welcome to Scatterbrain Podcast Episode 102: Technology of the Ancients. This week we review "Let the World Burn", the latest release from old-school Bay Area thrashers, Vio-lence. We also talk about "Timewave Zero" from Blood Incantation. Then we talk about technology: Ancient technologies such as the "Antikythera Mechanism", modern technologies invented earlier than you might expect, and technologies invented independently and in parallel by more than one person. What will remain long after we as a species are gone? We consider this and other interesting questions in this discussion. Thank you for listening. We appreciate all of our listeners, new and old. What can you say that hasn't already been said about the guys in Blood Incantation? Whether it's their incredibly deep and sprawling slabs of death metal like Starspawn or Hidden Histories of the Human Race or their other musical endeavors that read like a primer of the best extreme metal of the last 10 years (Spectral Voice, Stormkeep, Wayfarer)...it seems no matter what they put their hands in, it comes out righteous and heavy. So it's no surprise that their latest left turn, the ambient experiment Timewave Zero (Century Media Records) manages to retain the signature sound of the band even as it stretches into the furthest reaches of space without the raging riffs of down-tuned guitars to power it. We sat down with 3/4 of the band (Isaac, Paul and Morris) to discuss how the collaborative process works when you're creating an ambient record, the close-knit nature of the Colorado scene, keeping riffs fresh and alive in a world where almost everything has already been done, and so much more (just wait until the episode shifts to the majesty of Gorguts). This is a killer conversation that just reinforces howe vital and essential Blood Incantation is to the extreme metal scene, so put down that fidget spinner, grab your beverage of choice and settle in for a wicked edition of the Nine Circles Audio Thing.9C LINKS: Website | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram

Writers Jon Rosenthal and Brandon Corsair sat down with Blood Incantation members Jeff Barrett, Isaac Faulk, and Paul Riedl to discuss the band's new album "Timewave Zero," which sees them eschewing death metal entirely in favor of a cinematic ambient, synth-driven release. To Blood Incantation, though, it all falls under the greater banner of 'cosmic music for cosmic people.' Learn about the album's genesis and what went into making it here.

Since this is episode one of a whole new hundred episodes – and since I'm a sucker for ceremony and round numbers – this week we're taking a whirlwind tour of this show's recurring themes: how life, mind, culture, psychology, art, and science all change in the Internet Age, and how to live the best lives that we can amidst these transformations...Support the show for exclusive episodes, music, a book club, and more:patreon.com/michaelgarfieldMichelle Shevinmedium.com/@micheboxMichaelangelovoidandimagination.comWe Discuss:• Kronos & Kairos, revisited• Re: JF Martel – Episodes 18 & 71 • The information science of innovation and why Terence McKenna’s Timewave Zero may not be TOTAL hogwash• Book: Geoff West - Scale• Re: “An Oral History of the End of ‘Reality’” – Episode 91 • IS our time unique at all?• WJT Mitchell paraphrase: “We’re all constantly feeling as though everything is about to happen, or perhaps it already has and we just haven’t noticed it”• #presentshock• Did we miss the singularity?• Trapped in the present• MA: “chronopractic adjustments” of pulling your past and future into alignment• MA: “I feel like all expression is a form of deception…I try to look to the deception closest to the truth.”• Plato: “Writing is a step backward from Truth.”• Biological evolution as machine learning and the domestication of humans by technology• MA: “I took a hit of GPS / got lost within the endlessness / gave up the compass in my chest / and oriented to the West”• Michaelangelo – Episode 37 • Evolution’s bias toward paedomorphy / neoteny• MS: “What happens when DNA becomes the substrate for all this information?”• Storing data in the organic cloud• The zone of proximal evolution and how “We can’t invent what we don’t have the parts lying around for”• Every new technology is a remix• David Krakauer – Episode 75 • Dennis McKenna - Episode 88 • Toxoplasmosis mind control and how nobody actually things if “my brain made me do it”• MS: “If we are midwives to new myths, then part of the project is to litter the landscape with the right raw material, so that in the future, the right raw material is just lying around for people to pick up and build the tools with.”• MA: “meme-ifying” (vs. “mummifying”)• Book: Sam Harris – Free Will• Film: Upstream Color• Film: Primer• Book: Peter Watts – Blindsight• Book: Peter Watts – Echopraxia• Re: The Teafaerie – Episode 100 • Re: Erik Davis – Episode 99 • Re: Doug Rushkoff – Episode 67 • Weird Studies Podcast is amazing, their Episode 32 on Eyes Wide Shut• MG: “At the dusk of civilization, our eyes are adjusting to the darkness.”• The digital dark age• Book: Stewart Brand – The Clock of the Long Now• Richard Doyle on Philip K. The Whole Shebang: The Minute-by-Minute Velvet Goldmine Podcast
In Minute 53 of The Whole Shebang, Jenny and Mike look at the perfect symbolism of T. Rex's 1971 track “Cosmic Dancer” and its applicability to both Jack and Brian, how it presents the liminality of Brian's transition from folkie to glam, Mandy's integral role in making Brian's new image, Mandy's philosophy of a mediator to help the world cope with the acceleration of progress, its relation to Bowie's idea of the “homo superior” (swiped by Chris Claremont for the X-Men) and Terence McKenna's Timewave Zero, how Mandy's theories of time and progress reflect the stimulating nature of her marriage, the visual callbacks to Ingmar Bergman's Persona, how Angie and Brian's comfy and awesome bedroom is reminiscent of David and Angie Bowie's Haddon Hall, and other famous rock living quarters. photo: La Chorrera, 1971, courtesy Dennis McKenna Join experiential journalist Rak Razam in a frank and revealing interview with Dennis McKenna, on the cusp of his new book publication, The Brotherhood of the Screaming Abyss. Dennis discusses his early life with Terence and the unbreakable bond between his brother and he; living through the first wave of the psychedelic 1960s; the Experiment at La Chorerra (recounted in full, mind-blowing detail) and the fallout that still lingers to this day. The 2012 meme, Timewave Zero, ayahuasca and the Global Shamanic Resurgence are all examined at length, as is the passing of Terence and the impact on his family, and the entheogenic tribe. Dennis also discusses the perils and pitfalls of writing not just a memoir, but a critique of sorts on Terence, his ideas and legacy, and why he wanted to get this book out before Dec 21st, 2012. With additional commentary by Australian shamanic practitioner, Darpan. In this week's Diamond Jubilee Edition of Quick Hits / Slow Jams from Metavore, we discuss what all the noise in Montréal is about. We examine our feelings towards HBO's "GIRLS". And we cover our ears for the EuroVision 2012 Song Contest. Lastly we tune-in, turn-on and freak-out in this weeks Slow Jam about Timewave Zero and the impending singularity.
A seminal interview with Dennis McKenna, Ph.D on the evolution of ayahuasca and the entheogenic movement and the imminent tipping point on planet earth the movement parallels. In which experiential journalist Rak Razam quizzes Dennis on his role as a scientist and a leading ayahuasca researcher, while Dennis waxes lyrical on bio-piracy, the proliferating business of shamanism in Peru and around the world, and the urgent need for integration of the plant teacher experience in people's everyday lives to truly make a difference. Is the sacrament of ayahuasca becoming commercialized? As pharmahuasca – and the startling development of ayahuasca in a pill form – spreads beyond the vine itself, is the wisdom of globaluasca transcending its Gaian roots to connect with a new generation without the plant dogma? Is the future a religious, compartmentalized Entheogenic Evangelism? Or will lodges transform into "psychedelic monasteries" training plant Jedis? Its been ten years now since Dennis' brother Terence passed on, and Dennis deconstructs some of his theories, from Timewave Zero to the Singularity and provides a critical analysis of the 2012 phenomenon and the unfolding Archaic Revival... Guest speaker: Terence McKenna PROGRAM NOTES: (Minutes : Seconds into program) 04:11Terence McKenna:"My normal lectures deal with the psychedelic experience as a generalized and historical phenomenon, but this effort at communication is slightly more personal in that it's an effort to impart [just] one idea that came out of an involvement with psychedelic substances." 09:42 Terence McKenna: "This is a think-along lecture, by-the-way, and you're free to think-along at any point that you feel so moved to do so." 11:53 Terence begins telling the story of how the Timewave Zero hypothesis came to him during a long meditation on the King Wen sequence of the I Ching. 20:36 Terence McKenna: "We can understand first of all that what is happening in the world of becoming, the world we all experience as beings, is that novelty is entering into being, and it is changing the modalities of the real world toward greater and greater levels of integration." 27:33 Terence McKenna: "But what I really am interested in is not the end of the world but everything which precedes it." 32:29 Terence McKenna: "We are living in a very pivotal time. The time that we inherit from science is a time to humble you, to dwarf you. It tells you that the sun will not fluxuate for another billion years, that species come and go, and, in other words, on a temporal scale you don't matter. And that now doesn't matter. But when you look at the release of energy, the asymptotic speeding up of processes, we tend to be xenophobically oriented toward the human." 41:50 Terence McKenna: "This rising global humanism is, in fact, the rising into consciousness of a tribal god similar to the kind of tribal god that functioned in these pre-Hellenic societies." 35:41 Terence McKenna: "And the psychedelics, I believe, are the key to moving from wearing culture like cloths to recognizing that culture is this intensifying reflection of an aspect of the self and integrating it into the self."
